Oh one important thing NOT TO DO.
In the interests of scientifically testing this product, I breathed into the machine with my open mouth and it didnt speed up. So obviously in the interests of scientific testing I let one go next to the machine and it speeded up like crazy. Which my daughter liked.... or rather liked it too much and went and told everyone in her school including her teachers! Kids just dont know when to shut up. So dont go around testing this in front of your child like me by letting one go or the whole school (and HUKD) will know about it.
ps: Beer burps send it crazy too and also wife using any sprays in the bathroom more than 10 feet away.

Sorry for the late reply... yeah it's been a good purchase. It has improved breathability at night for both me and my wife. It is also quite effective in detecting odours too.

Oh, it was a fair bit more expensive than the offer price on the deal above (I was gutted I missed this one to be honest. I would've snapped it up like a shot if I'd seen it at the time) but anyway, the larger DX95 was £175 on Amazon but knowing them the price has changed since I ordered it. I had been looking at them over the past few days deciding which one to get and this medium sized one was £149 a couple of days ago and the large one was £175 but when I was looking again yesterday this medium sized one had increased by another £30 up to £179 but luckily the larger one had stayed the same price so I jumped on that one before that one increased too. The medium one from Argos is £199.99 and the larger one is £289.99.

Yep, that would work, or do something drastic and build your own rocker switch extension.
Basically as long as your hand isn't anywhere near that rocker switch, should be ok

Word of warning, these are potentially lethal !!!
I'm on my 5th one, after sending it back to Fellowes for repair.....
After a month of use, the on/off rocker switch on the back will get loose and starts to spark.
1st one, I was zapped twice, sent it back to Fellowes.
2nd one, again after a month, switch was loose and sparked when switching on
3rd one, The plasma ion button only worked intermittently
4th one, Started sparking after a month and plasma ion button is still flakey
On my 5th one now, the quality control on this product is literally "shocking"... It would be good to hear from anyone else with these problems, as i'm thinking of filing a case against Fellowes for the poor manufacture and safety of this item.
P.S. Yes these are great for dealing with Asthma, far better than any other on the market.
In terms of noise, the lowest setting is quiet and will not interrupt sleep, the second upwards are noisy.
If you plan on leaving this on all the time, then its good. But just be aware of the dangerous on/off switch if you use it daily as and when needed.

Would it be alright to use a Remote Control Socket on this? Where you turn the power on and off by the remote control in order that you don't have to use the rocker switch that you're referring to? I currently use them on lamps, fans and the Tvs.

Can I ask how you're getting on with it now after having it a little while longer. Is it still ok? I've just ordered the larger DX95 as it worked out cheaper than the current price for this size, especially in comparison to Argos prices. I'm hoping it helps with my hayfever allergies.

I purchased this with the £10 off voucher that was available at the time. I've got to say it's made a difference to the air quality. I feel like I've had much better sleeps and the wife also sleeps better too. Many thanks to the op :wink:
Just for information I rang Fellowes today to find out how long the warranty is on this as I was about to register for a free year warranty via my Nationwide CC. It turns out this has a 3 year warranty... awesome.

Did you remove the plastic cover from both sides of the filters before switching it on! You need to open the thing to remove the plastic cover from the filters

Mine arrived today. smells horrid! its a really strong burning plastic smell. Will return this if it does not go :disappointed: Anyone else experienced this?

The main purpose I want it for is to reduce/stop mould on my walls at least until I can get the walls/roof fixed which could be months/years away! Secondary would be for the wife's asthma. How does the filters work, do i need 2 different filters? How expensive are the filters and how often do they generally need changing?
Also how loud is it especially being left on all day and night.

i guess you would need a dehumidifier and probably this too. the hero's HEPA filter is changed once a year and carbon filter recommended every 3 months just like in fish tanks etc. people seem to be using cheaper carbon filters of kitchen evac units and cutting them to size. see reviews on Amazon for more information.
mould is bad for health so best sort it out with better ventilation and dehumidifiers and air filters if needed.

The HEPA filter needs replacing, probably has a lifespan of 1 year and replacements seem to cost £20 so take that into account when buyin one.

These work better when always left on. This speeds up when required and slows down when not needed in my experience. I havent bothered to check if there is a timer function as always leave it on. Manufacturer recommends to always leave it on.
Had this a short while and my child breathes better in the room it is in through her nose and in other rooms often has to breathe through her mouth and nose as per her own admission. She is 7y old so will accept her approval of the product than a thousand other reviews, as I bought it for her benefit and now bought 3 more for other rooms in my house too.
