You know your coming across as either paranoid or very bitter?
Either Way, awards aside it still has 100's of positive reviews across multiple sites -i appreciate your next response will be that they can be faked but you know what - so what. HP has been rubbish for us and our needs so time to try something else that seems to be appreciated by most people.

The BEST printers are second hand HP models that take No. 363 cartridges.
Easy to fill holding lots of ink and simple as anything to bypass the empty or out of date messages.
And of course HP have always made the most reliable printers and desktops but lack unfortunately in their laptop reliability because of overheating.

Its a current model still available on the Epson site directly, 4+ out of 5 rated on their site and winning awards and best buys elsewhere so doubt it - they just want everyone to shop just with them

A relative bought a Epsom SX435W and then a set of refillable cartridges and inks from eBay. Cartridges worked fine until her son agreed to a Epsom update which writes to the eprom of the printer and from then on no more NON Epsom cartridges. I have (as does another relative) a Epsom SX105 and for the last 2-3 years they have been using refillable cartridges, after the initial cost of the cartridges (12-15 quid) the inks cost (£10 for 4 bottles (1 each colour) each bottle 10 cartridge fills) approx 10p per fill so X 4 cartridges 40p per set refill. Obviously the black uses a lot more but 10p per fill is Cheap printing.

I'll never use Inkjet again I don't print very much and was buying ink every 6 weeks. I've had my laser printer for 4 months and it's still going.

I have an HP Photosmart C5180 and An HP Photosmart 3210. Both with scanner but the 3210 is higher resolution and also a fantastic built in 35 MM Slide and 35MM negative copier which you can print photos direct from slides and negs Both are network printers. Both solid workhorses. Loads of info on utube on how to refill etc.

These printers are absolute junk. I had one it wouldn't accept any 3rd party inks whatsoever, I think I must have printed no more than 50 pages over a 12 month period when it gave up the ghost completely. Second Epson printer in less than 3 years never again.

Indeed owned 2 reppacements in the past for a faulty one and they all had the same problem. If i left it for any short peroid of time the black ink wouldnt print and i ended up wasting multi ink cartridges on cleaning processes and even buying cleaning kits off ebay to clean the print head nozzle. Ended up binning them.

No issues with the XP-325 model with compatible inks. in fact still have the supplied original epsons inks that came with it sealed up. 12 cartridges for about £4 delivered, works a treat. Picked it up from ebuyer for £30 about 6 mths ago

can someone please share the link for cheap cartridges
Nothing to do with that - its that Epson were selling printers, people were putting cheap crap chinese ink cartridges in them of questionable quality, then taking their printer back when it clogged up with ink, and it was "Epsons fault".
So now, they only cover them under warranty if they are faulty and have genuine ink cartridges in them.
The other thing to remember is that these are like video consoles - the money isnt in the console itself (often sold at a loss) but its in the games. So people like Epson make cheap printers but charge more for the cartridges and make their profit that way.
I've no particular issue with that - you cant have your cake and eat it - either you go for a low price per page but higher purchase price (usually colour laser) or you go for higher cost per page but low purchase price.
For the record i've an Epson printer that i bought a couple of years ago and i've had no issues at all with it and i put that down wholly to the fact that i use quality Epson ink rather than some chinese import crap.
As opposed to "oh Epson are **** because they stop me using crap cheap ink" or "oh Epson are **** because their printer heads clog up when i use the cheapest ink i can find on ebay"

Thanks - are there any speicific HP 363-cartridge printers to go-for, or avoid, say for, poor build-quality ?
I'm not averse to donning nitrile gloves and flushing out old printheads on an otherwise working printer (have been doing that for several years, but can't help thinking I'm on borrowed time with the Epson).

I bought the epson x-235 all in one wireless printer from tesco direct yesterday £35. It came with 4 ink catridges and it says they can be refilled with other ink yourself and they are cheap enough to replace.

Yep, I'm another who avoids the new Epson printers. Bad experience a couple of years ago, their £179 Photo PX700W printed maybe 150 pages, then told me it was at the end of its life........only then I read lots of comments from others about their problems. WIsh I had been warned. Epson - reputation gone south long time ago.
Wasn't always this way - CX3200 all-in-one, and C62 Stylus were great - I still have a lone C62 up and running - brought back to life after unblocking the printheads using isopropanol flushed through. USB and Parallel interface - WOW !
Any recommendations for a replacement - reliable and cheap inks the primary requirement !

Many years ago they did make decent cheap to run printers but I think they were the instigators of CORPORATE GREED in the computer world by putting greedy chips onto cartridges which made all the others follow like sheep that caused all aspects of quality to fall because of the inbuilt obsolescence that now appears to be mandatory throughout the WHOLE electronics industry.
ink is for ink printers and toner is for laser printers, comparison

I've had an epson p315 that i bought in argos 2 years ago (of 50 quid i guess), but i guess for printing standard stuff as text, occasional photos it should be fine. Mine has developed a fault now and it makes weird lines on a print (only with colour images), so i print everything black and white. Might get this:) The best thing is that I bought like 12 inks on eBay for 6 pounds and that kept me going for the lifetime of the printer (I believe I still might have couple unopened colour ones somewhere in the drawer). I could recommend that if you're not obsessive about quality:)
Edit: Also same price on Amazon, I would rather order from them for better warranty and cs. I'm as cheap here

Don't mess about with that, just get them on eBay! The non-gen 18XL's are so cheap as it is...
