Yes, it is a proper i7. Intel decides what constitutes an i7, not you.

Nice. Sadly likely to go cold though as someone will invariably compare it to some clevo chassis based plastic Gaming laptop with a better GPU and more storage for £200 less....
That seems to be the problem when posting Ultra-book deals on here but the Dell XPS range is genuinely beautifully built and worth the extra money. I had the XPS 15 which I returned to buy this instead. The XPS 13 is so portable and with the quality and technology to match. Perfect Ultrabook for me and at £999 plus a tenner post was too good to miss.
Although if size and a touchscreen are important to you over a dedicated GPU and quad core then fair enough.

My old device was a Dell Inspiron 7537 and was a great Laptop but just too heavy at almost twice the weight of the XPS 13. The light weight, decent spec and high quality materials is what makes these attractive device.

The design is the reason the XPS is my choice. don't care for touchscreen. Size is bonus

That's a 15 inch. Can you get those specs in the 13 inch screen?

Cold.
Firstly, it's a Dell Outlet machine anyone could have got.
Secondly, it will not have 12 months warranty by the time you get it. The warranty starts running when the eBay seller receives it from Dell.

It is also £400 less expensive than the equivalent machine direct from Dell UK. I can sacrifice a few days of my Warranty for that. My last Dell machine was also an outlet device "the one I am replying to you now with and the machine of my daily usage for the last 2 years"

Is the touchpad on this any good? In particular, when compared to a Macbook?
Touchpad
The Precision touchpad is also once again excellent, and yet again unchanged from the previous model. To quickly summarize our previous impressions, it’s accurate, smooth, sufficiently large, and it features very good integrated buttons. Gestures are once again flawlessly interpreted.

I bought my XPS 15 from an Ebay seller just before Xmas. The one year warranty activated the day I received it when I first logged in. Mine was new though. Not sure about Dell refurbished.

Let's not forget this has a pretty awesome SSD in it, 512GB NVMe PCIE-3, roughly 1050MBs read speed, and 240k IOps. Roughly £200, on its own.

It is perfectly possible to go direct to Dell and buy outlet machines without them ever appearing on the outlet website, presumably that's how so many start their warranty the moment the customer registers the device. I used to buy from the outlet as part of my job.

To do that don't you need to buy in bulk (10 - 15 per batch) direct from Dell via their internal auctions or have they stopped that?

Very attractive price for this, about 6 months ago I tossed and turned between this model but lower spec (i7+8G)
and the MBP 13' (i5+16G). Although eventually I went for the MBP because I mainly need larger memory. The XPS 13 is lighter, thinner and better performance.
UnknownConcept
11 Jan 161#35
As others have said already, far lighter.........but also there is a huge difference between their inspiron range which is basically aimed at consumers and those on a budget against the xps range which is aimed at those willing to splash or at businesses.
If you had both side by side you can tell the difference in quality between the two, in terms of the chasis and build quality.

I got last years XPS13 very recently, 8gb ram, i5 broadwell and 256 ssd, with 3200 x1800 touch screen, imported from USA for about £750 all in including postage/import/exchange fees. It was advertised as a certified refurb, The laptop is literally brand new... I think dell were releasing unsold stock without upsetting the market by stating them as refurbs due to the new skywell.
The laptops are beautiful and the screen is amazing. I'm very happy with it, plays Civ 5 great too!

Unless someone wants performance over size and weight. Personally I'll take the former but as I originally said, it depends what you want. I'd take performance any day + it's cheaper.

That insperon has ddrm3 and the xps has 4. Also they have the same graphics card. Ive ordered the xps15 quad core i7, yes its almost double the price but the performance is the same as the 15-7000

Some people favour build quality, lightweight and long battery life over pure performance.
How many people spend more money on iPhones when you can pick up a higher spec Android phone for less money?
