To everyone recommending using Dell outlet, I'd advise against it. I received my Dell FHD i5 6200 (scratch & dent - with barely a discernible mark on it) only to find it crashing every 5 minutes and a keyboard that didn't fit the frame properly. I have since waited 3 weeks for it to be collected, with 2 collections not turning up thus far due to some apparent technical issue on Dell's behalf. Having complained and being promised that a supervisor would contact me regarding 2 wasted days, I'm still waiting for their contact a week later. I won't be purchasing from Dell again. The current crop of laptops in general, having researched and tested many in stores, including sending back a Lenovo, a Toshiba and now a Dell, in my humble opinion is of poor quality. And windows 10 is just too buggy. When I finally settle on a new one, I reckon it's going to be an older model with Windows 7.

Dell & HP computers are cheap and nasty even when brand new. I hate to think what a refurbished computer from them will be like. You'll be looking for a new PC after a year, when it starts to break down and components fail, and that's regarding brand new computers!

Was looking at the HP ENVY 13-d008na Full-HD Laptop or the HP Spectre 13-4108na x360 Full-HD Laptop with as it has 8GB ram and a smaller but better screen. and you get a good student discount with HP.

Clearly, Spectre is way better than Envy 13.
Envy 13 do not have good screen. Although HP Website states Envy has FHD IPS anti-glare screen, some people tested and reported, it was a TN panel, not IPS panel, which I thought was shocking.

Dell Inspiron 15 - 5559 is FHD and dedicated graphic cards.
HP Pavilion 15 is 768 and onboard graphic card. The HP just the specs do not worth £400. Not to mention HP Pavilion is a consumer laptop, quality and durability could be an issue.
Dell is clearly better.
I do not know how you read the specs.

Do not do that.
Dell Inspiron 15 - 5559 is clearly better value for the specs, and mostly likely better quality too.

I am no computer expert. The Dell has the better screen. The HP has a 2tb hard drive and 2 usb3 ports and is brand new. You can compare specs. Most seem to like dells. I have a lot of 3tb usb3 hard drives. 1 usb3 port is not enough for me.

I am surprised to hear that as the SP4 seemingly only supports the Skylake Core m3-6Y30 (0.9 - 2.2GHz) which is quite a bit slower than the Broadwell Core M in this one (1.2 - 2.9GHz).
I'm assuming that Skylake Core M is not a big upgrade as per other Skylake CPUs but haven't read a detailed review yet...
I'm sure the reviews for this were poor, something about the screen being poorly made or fitted.
zxh484
25 Jan 16#17
Yeah the old gen core m doesn't perform very well, I owned a 12 inch macbook with maxed out configuration but it still slow by my standard, however the new core m performs pretty well on my SP4. For daily use I would go for core m due to the low power consumption and fanless design.
Agharta
25 Jan 16#16
Too different to compare but better value I'd say.
The Core M CPUs are slow for sustained loads as they are thermally throttled in tablets/hybrids due to lower acceptable temperatures in handheld devices.
Also convertibles including this one are top heavy so can be a bit unwieldy when on the lap but fine on a desk.
If you can live with that this is a bargain.
