the room i have it in has 2 temperature gauges in and quite often this does go into pause mode at 19. i do have the humidifier closer to the window though which is a cooler part of the room. it does in the instructions for best results to use while heating is on, i have my heating on timer for about an hour at 6 and if i keep the room door shut the temperature will usually be 23/24 and the humidifier will stay on all night till i go to bed sometimes it has paused on colder nights. It usually extracts a lot of water this way aswell.

I have a really really old MATSUI one and works very well, I am sure it is older than me and I am 22, Heat! These are needed during the winter.
I bought EcoAir dehumidifier and returned De'Longhi DEM10 Compact Dehumidifie. Ecoair has a displace panel with humidity level indicator and a timer. I felt it is better than De'Longhi in terms of noise and looks modern.
I bought one of these about 10 months back - very disappointing - very cheap plastic and quite noisy - sorry to say I sent it straight back as it was hardly pulling any moisture (I guess my house was too cold) - it was about £110 if iirc so £80 is a good price

Is it a dessicant of compressor dehumidifier ?
Dessicant machines are supposed to be much better for use in the winter time .
Edit:Its seems its a compressor type so pretty useless for Winter use.

I had a PIV unit installed a year ago in my flat and it's only made a little difference to the measured humidity. My old Bionaire dehumidifier still switches on and off as often as it ever did. However the flat does smell much fresher, and the mould that sometimes developed on coats hanging in the hallway has completely gone, so the PIV is doing some good.
I'm tempted by this deal as my Bionaire one has on a couple of occasions recently soaked the floor (due I think to a blockage of fluff in the drainage channel leading to the water collection tank, leading to the water it extracted flowing out of the base). So I've half been looking out for a replacement - the Bionaire has been running for 10 years and has had a good innings.

Thanks for your input.
We have condensation in all three bedrooms so was recommended a PIV unit get a bit of mould too. The PIV unit I am getting has heat too. So hopefully it warm it up a bit.

I've used mine now..it's the Meaco 10L Dehumidifier. Reviews were hood, just arrived yesterday morning. Collected I'd say 1.75l of water and that's between 1.40 pm til 11.40pm roughly. I wouldn't be able to return it now since I've used it. Plus I've never ordered anything above £20 from amazon. Dunno howd theyd be customer service wise whether it'll be a load of hassle.

How does these compare to a PIV unit. I am having a PIV unit installed in 2 weeks. Should I get this to get me on with until that or will I just waste money as the PIV unit is costing a bit already
adamkaty to terayon00
12 Jan 16#34
depends on the circumstances this mostly works for a particular room not a whole house solution unless you move the dehumidfier around the house.
PIV unit works well for condensation issues but blows freezing cold air from the attic at this time of year , which displaces some air that contains moisture.

It needs to be 50cm away from a wall.
And Which.co.uk are not too keen:
A good choice if you’re on a budget - but only if you don't plan to use it in cool rooms and don't mind putting up with its noise.
Pros: Small and portable, cheap to buy and run
Cons: Noisy, will need regular emptying, does not work well in the cold
nihcaj to ought

lord_trumpington to ought

I would argue that 'needs regular emptying' should be in the Pros category as it is a testament to the products effectiveness at drawing up excess moisture. It has a 2ltr water chamber and ours normally needs emptying every 24 hours.

Bought this November 2014 on an Amazon deal, when it was 90 quid worked fine, but EXTREMELY noisy, even with a thick foam pad underneath and on a solid floor. so bad I eventually gave up on it, and it is now used by a friend in an area he isn't bothered by the noise.
Bought an Ebac (OK, and far quieter but not all they are cracked up to be either!).
I have a Meaco dessicant type too, and while it produces more heat and is dearer to run, it is half the volume.

I have the older (much) and larger model than this. In fact, it will celebrate its 14th birthday in September. It has been amazing. It is in permanent use including the summer. Mine is thermostatically controlled and does its job brillliantly. My friend bought an even bigger model than the one I had and after 8 years it needed attention. It was repaired at minimal cost and returned with a 2 year guarantee. It has been faultless since. I think De'Longhi were more than fair under the circumstances. Highly reccommended. I know I wouldn't be without mine.

Excellent dehumidifier. We've had one for about 7/8 years....amazing how much water it collects.
Not sure I agree with this statement though 'The DEM10 uses ecological gas R134a and collects demineralised water that is ideal for re-use in, for example, steam irons' If you are going to do this then make sure you leave your toilet door closed

Seems as a really nice deal, just seen it 2 mins ago, how does it work? I mean, what do you have to replace over the time, anything like filters, cartridges, fillers, anything like that? How often do you do it and what's the price of any of those? Never had an electric one, I only was using ones with white flakes or something which were absorbing the moisture, sorry for silly questions then.
PrincessJellybean to Phos23
12 Jan 162#3
Not silly questions at all, Nothing will need replacing, you just plug it in and your off. when the tank is full, just pull it out and tip it down the drain, once a month pull the filter out and give it a vac (its just a plastic mesh filter) put it back and your ready to go again.
I used to use the granule things and still do for cupboards and things but having a bigger electric humidifier made all the difference. We generally empty it once or twice a day, it is amazing how much water it pulls out of the air, it switches off automatically when it is full. The house is drier and it is warmer because the moisture in the air made it feel cooler than it was, hard to explain, but yes we wouldn't be without it now.
