Snagged one of these today. Cooler Master, who are they? Inside the casing is actually a Seasonic 1000W unit. Hang on, I hear you say, that's a platinum unit, right? Yup. Based on the Seasonic KM3 platform, the insides are near identical to the Seasonic own-brand units. These units do not fully meet the Platinum standards. Not quite. On many measures they do. Incredibly efficient even at low load. All Japanese capacitors, fully modular. Flat cables. Only 270mm long case.
Because I couldn't get an EVGA 650W G2 for my work PC, I have slipped the 750W unit I bought from Argos into that and I am going to use this in my new gaming PC build.
That gave it 9.7/10, but that was based on a price of about £170 inc VAT, at this price no doubt it would have been 9.8/10!!

I just read your post from a year ago. Price has gone up by £5 in the year :disappointed:
Probably not bad considering the way the Pound has fallen against the US Dollar (just as well I get paid in US Dollars)

BTW. I thought I would add something to this. The review I linked to above is by Jon Gerow, aka 'jonnyGURU', who is the Technical Marketing Manager at Corsair. Yes, that's right. In his 'spare' time he tests and gives honest opinions on PSUs from Corsair's competitors!! There is a great video of him being interviewed at using single 12V rails (as the Cooler Master does) and he (jokingly) questions the sanity of anyone who uses a power supply for gaming that does NOT have a single 12V rail. You can watch it here:
That was a hot price at the time! This is still a good price...

PSU's are probably the only PC component that don't drop in price.
I remember when 60GB SSD's were around £100, and 4GB of RAM was over £70. Now look at them! That's not even mentioning the obvious GPU and CPU's that drop the following year when the newer versions get released.
In short, if you see a well priced PSU, buy it.

Forgive me for hi-jacking this thread (I have given the post heat) I had a brand new, sealed, UK supplied V850 on ebay for a month at £109.99 including express delivery, and only got 2 watchers and no buyer. I have 5-star ratings as a seller. Ay idea what I should be asking. Believe it's the same PSU, but just in a lower output.

Well, if I was buying, I am VAT registered. So I am always looking for at least 16.66% off to compensate for there being no VAT to claim back. Then I want at least a tenner (or 10%, whichever is the higher) off otherwise I buy new. The fact that right now the 850W unit is more than the 1000W unit at this deal price!!! Right now I would not pay more than a ton new and delivered for the 850W, so take of the VAT and a tenner and you get a price of about £73 including delivery. I think that answers why you have no takers.
I purchased exactly the same PSU on a Scan Today only deal last January and paid about £85 ..I'd probably pay a max £75 provided the unit is as stated "brand new"

1000W is overkill for the vast majority of PC users. Even SLI/xfire can run perfectly fine on 750W.
I'd recommend picking a 750w with a great warranty and a silent fan/eco mode. Evga g2 is 87.99 ish and is what I just purchased.

Total overkill for even the vast majority of gamers. An i5 and a 970 pull effectively ~300 watts.

I've got this one, it's still going strong after years. It usually pops up for about £120 or so every now and then, typical that I bought another PSU a few weeks ago (Corsair 850w modular) and that was from maplin for the same price (funnily they are usually overpriced but it was the same on amazon etc), I was trying to rule out a BSOD error, it wasn't the psu, so I just kept it as a standby.

Just put it down to £105, or £100 plus £5 P&P or just £100. Someone will buy it eventually, this 1000w will go back up in price soon so don't worry, Remember though, some people would rather pay the extra for the warranty. I think they are usually about £125 new (your one).

Yes, I've converted the cooling fans on my PC into wind turbines. They generate enough electricity that I don't need a PSU.

There are scenarios where you might want one, you might be running an all AMD system in which case just make sure there's a local nuclear power station you can plug directly in to near by :stuck_out_tongue:

£125 for a PSU
This is a component only for a very high end PC which has huge power requirements.
99% of PCs won't require this.
In any case, £125 for a PSU is overkill.

And having 700w overhead is great for making sure the power supply lasts a long time, keeping temps and noise down and the fact it's ready for upgrades if you want to go that route.
If you have this kind of money spare for a PSU, do not even hesitate it's a fantastic deal. Even if you're not hitting the (near) 1000W mark.

Decent price. As others have said, not many people will actually need 1kw. Having said that I did get 850w because it was like £80 at the time because I couldn't pass on a good deal when I wanted a gtx 970 (though is still overkill).
The v850 should have a 5 year warranty afaik.

I have a Coolermater 650watt that ive been running for years and its the best PSU ive ever had it came with a 5 year warranty. Ive had some great PSU's over the years Corsair XfX Antec a good few, ive just bought a new case and am swapping my stuff over so i thought i might upgrade 1 or 2 things why its easy. Because the PSU is around 4 years old and i will be upgrading later this year to some real high end kit i thought i might get one of these, i just think that a 1000w is complete overkill the only issue is is that the 850watt is more than the 1000w one. Enough debating going to go for it cheers OP.
