Thought this would be posted already today, switch to them and they will give you £150 cash back, they did this early last year and got loads of new business. Usual rules apply have to switch 2 direct debits and transfer in £1000 a month for 2 months and think this may be new activate online banking.
Some good cashback deals at the moment. will add the YB link in first post
other Banks have offers at the moment will add the links to the first post, most have been posted already on here so wont call this a mega thread :)

From experience, YB do not keep their promises. I transferred from Halifax to YB starting 2nd Dec 2014 (YB said my account would be live from this date) but my account wasn't even open with them til 7th Jan 2015 and in the meantime they managed to convince Halifax to fully close my account with them so I was left with no account whatsoever over Xmas. Ended up transferring back to Hailifax within a week of the YB account being opened without an apology from YB in the whole time!

A family member had no major problems going through their account switching service a year ago. Account switched, old one closed and cashback paid. Only downside was ending up with one of their Credit Cards as part of that process.

I tried joining Yorkshire Bank / Clydesdale. Forget on-line, they insist you call them and spend 35 minutes telling the information to someone who is slow at typing things in. Ten days later they sent me eighteen pages of forms to be completed, some of which made no sense and some of which needed the information I had already provided them with over the phone. I went to another bank who gave me £100 and have since given me offers that took the benefits to over £150. (Bank name kept secret for security, but the good deals are out there.)

if you think the £150 is payment for 41 hour work it's a good hourly rate post tax.... so the forms and phone calls are worth it. opened 7 account ts when you could do this a few times so 1050 quid for 7 hours work want bad.

Good luck with the switching process. When I did it last year they sent me reams and reams of paper to fill out - completely ridiculous. A lot of work, but probably worth it for £150..

Santander 123 if you have 9k+ savings, the interest rate still trumps any cashback, unless you close the account like within a month. First direct also offer 100+ switch bonus, but very good CS.

So there are better deals out there if you have £9000 savings (which sort of commits you to 12 months min?) or if you don't mind losing £50 cashback for better CS? OK :smirk:

He isn't. He is referring to the 123 Current account, and the First Direct Current Account - the former which offers 3% on balances 3-20k. The latter which, I agree, has very good customer service.

this is the kind of reply that says more about the commentator than the company... giving info over the phone merely creates the account and leaves a trace of you on their database. the information invariably has to be added to, or confirmed, with a signature at the end as proof of your supply of information. this is to validate the information as correct and to protect themselves against spurious 'i've been robbed and its your fault' claims if money goes missing. while it may be frustrating, i'd suggest taking a step back from your indignation and wee the bigger picture...

personal opinion only but i quite dislike first direct... their silly security tag process each time you access the account, whille fabulously safe, is a royal pain and the way it opens new windows i find clunky. the same goes for hsbc and even nationwide is a bit meh! personally find lloydsm tsb and santander are safe enough without all the palaver. but, hey, what do i know!
Is Santander still the only one offering 3% on up to £20k?
zerocrop
14 Jan 16#28
Yes I see your point. however, one ought not to confuse interest paid on a given account with an incentive simply to switch. In this instance there is nothing to stop a person switching from wherever to Yorkshire/Clydesdale in order to collect the incentive, and then switching again to Santander!
zerocrop
14 Jan 16#29
What do you mean "only one". There were never any others offering 3% on a 20k balance.

Yorkshire Bank on-line is a right pain. Difficult to transfer money.
First Direct charges £10/month if < £1000 balance.
Try Halifax £100 for switch + £5/month
If you have a good balance, try TSB current account. Has 5% interest, good regular savings and 5% cashback on contactless. £750/month minimum. Tesco has 5% also - no minimum monthly. Neither pay to switch IIRC
Current accounts pay best interest rates compared to ISA, bonds etc

Just to clear up some slightly misleading information above on First Direct.
- You don't need the security key to log in now, only if you are completing certain types of transaction.
- Most people avoid the £10 monthly charge by simply sticking £1 in one of their savings accounts (obviously you're going to need to have £1000 going into it monthly until you get your cashback).

Yorkshire Bank is a nuisance. When you pay money to another account online, the money will disappear in the void and only appear in the destination account until one working day. That was from my savings account with them. It's not nice. At least, the money should show up in the destination account, but with a future date. Nasty grabbing meanie. I stopped using them ...And the CEO receives nearly more than £2m, just sitting on my meagre amounts of money for one working day or 2 to 3 weekends or bank holidays! And we muppets allow this to happen!
eslick
14 Jan 16#40
You should talk to them about it unless the destination account doesn't accept faster payments you should see the transfer in 2 hours. Could be that they are making yours as BACS transfers. Ask them to move your account to a faster payment sort code if it's not on the website.
youve been watching Martin Lewis haven't you and now YOU'RE the expert!!

I'd recommend for anyone to go into their local branch and ask for an appointment. They won't encourage this I don't think, but I know it is possible. Take everything you think they'll need, ID, payslips, current account details etc and let them do all the paperwork / data input. Will take around 30-45 mins and you'll probably end up with a Credit Card you don't need too.
aym280
15 Jan 16#44
I did talk to them, but they said it was the way the savers online account operated i.e. money disappeared in my account and wouldn't appear until 1 working day's time and longer if it was a bank holiday or weekend. Believe you me, I even emailed the bonus laden CEO with £m salary. I didn't know when I first joined them. Never again. I had the feeling that I was dealing with the VOID!

Pay in at least £1000 in the 31 days after your switch completes and another £1000 in the 31 days after this and keep 2 Direct Debits for this period. These payments can’t include internal transfers from any other account you hold, or jointly hold with someone else, with Clydesdale or Yorkshire Bank.
If i pay in via halifax my account it will fail, dont want to waste my time

I've been asked to go into branch with my driving license and the counterpart - despite this no longer being legally recognised or issued since June 2015. I do not have time to go into one of their very few branches to action this. I wouldn't waste your time, or the mark on your credit file with the application. Avoid (unless you have a branch nearby and happy to go in there to show items.

Question: does it qualify for £150 - if you transfer the fund to yourself - from a separate bank account? (e.g. say a John Smith transfers the money from their Bank Account at ... M&S to their new Clydesdale account?
"1. Complete a full switch, including transfer of at least 2 Direct Debits, using the Current Account Switch Service within 31 days of signing the Current Account Switch Agreement.
2. Pay in at least £1000 in the 31 days after your switch completes and another £1000 in the 31 days after this and keep
2 Direct Debits for this period. These payments can’t include internal transfers from any other account you hold, or jointly
hold with someone else, with Clydesdale or Yorkshire Bank.
3. Register for and activate online or mobile banking within 2 months of your switch completing.
We’ll then pay £150 into your new account between 63 and 70 days of your switch completing."
