job as our £200 Diamond ones!

Cheap, works and has superb reviews..

It is in stock, if everyone runs CCleaner and uses Chrome browser with
the Eraser Extension [eg: gets rid of all the crappy advert cookies] and
then visits site it works ;-)

There are loads in peoples carts, where they have gone to look, popped
one or some in their shopping carts, not purchased or forgotten and then
carried on watching TV or playing GTA5 or polishing the vase.. these are
sold stock items that are in a *held* cart position with Tesco.. to get at
them *refresh* your browser as above so the put back in stock to buy
ones are visible OR do the above and switch your DSL/ADSL off and
on again to get at the stock from a different location..

And don't compare one thing with something else completely different. Give me strength...

To be honest, I don't really like Pink items and it's a bit lame when items marketed to women are Pink and the price is bumped up. But it also means, as in this case, sometimes you find it in the bargain bin.

And don't forget, Pink was a Boy's colour in Victorian times :innocent:
Yes, you can get mini brush heads too http://www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-Sonicare-HX6024-26-Results/dp/B00DE8V4NChttps://boots.scene7.com/is/image/Boots/10156340?id=8u9b90&fmt=jpg&fit=constrain,1&wid=504&hei=548
As for the comments about Dentists pooh-poohing Sonic brushes, I am surprised. A few years ago my dentist said "Whatever you're doing to your mouth, keep doing it"...I told him I regularly scrape my tongue, use sonic brushes and either no-alcohol or Listerine mouthwash (whatever's on offer at the time). No fillings for years apart from the ones that are deteriorating getting fixed.

This HealthyWhite (this will be my third of this model) has 31,000 sonic pulses/minute, same as the model down EasyClean HX6511/XX*, which is sometimes on offer for £25 or so, and the newer Healthywhite + HX8911 is also 31,000.

*The two digits after the model number refer to the brush supplied, either ProResults Standard, DiamondClean or Sensitive.

Also, don't forget to register your toothbrush on the Philips' website, so you're covered by the 2 year guarantee. Given that both my HealthyWhite brushes (same brush handle design as the pink) had a problem with the button after a year or so, you may need it!

Mine also has the Sensitive mode, but I must admit I never use it, so the HX6761 not having it isn't a problem. Always best to put it on the lowest setting at first as it can be a bit of a shock moving from manual brushing to sonic!

Edit: Oh, and another thing, use a little slick of Vaseline on the metal prong when putting on a new brush head - it creates a tighter seal but also makes it easier to remove (heard of some brush heads breaking off but there's no problems when you use a little Vaseline - my old Ultrasonex had it in the instructions, strangely the Sonicare doesn't mention this).

Well, I haven't read this entire thread but I can vouch for the health of my teeth and gums improving after switching to Sonic Toothbrushes. Over the years I've had two Ultrasonex brushes and now two Philips HealthyWhite (this will be my third).

Thought this was the updated version - still seems to be the same design as the two HealthyWhite models I had previously. I will say that I believe this model has a weakness where the button stops working properly and stays switched "on" or goes on of its own accord after extended use, happened to me and saw it mentioned in a few reviews. Luckily for me Philips replaced it weeks before the 2 year guarantee was up!

Just to point out that many of those poor reviews you refer to are now 5-6 years old. Philips may well have made improvements to later versions of this model based on customer feedback. Of the 18 reviews on the Tesco Direct website the average rating is 4.8 (oiut of 5) stars and none of those reviews date back more than a month or so,

Just make sure you do the warranty, the battery on these Phillips in fact all these sonicare brushes are prone to dieing I have had a few, and you can't replace the battery without a soldering iron and some knowledge. At 100 quid I wouldn't bother at 25 it's a good deal.

I will reiterate what other have said for those contemplating a Philips toothbrush for the first time...
These are great brushes when they work but the longevity of them is appalling and I've found their aftercare pretty poor.
Saying that I've bought one at £25 hoping it'll last two years....
friendlyfire321 to yourlegaldealer
25 Jan 16 #174
I've found the aftercare to be pretty good myself. Have returned 3 Sonicare toothbrushes over the years under warranty normally due to battery fading just under the 2 year warranty. Just call them and they tell you where to send it for inspection/return. Sent a Diamondcare handle to them a couple of months ago and they sent out a brand new handle out within about 5 days. Don't always need a receipt either as they can tell manufacture date from serial number. Any replacement they send out is guaranteed for another 2 years I believe too.

I like to stick with base model brauns because they're the most common which results in very affordable and very decent third party replacement heads. These sort of businesses operate in the same way as printer manufacturers; they sell the printers at very low cost and get their money back double quick by selling 'consumables' at a crazy price. I would check availability of third party heads before committing. There again, what do I know.

1 thing to bear in mind; like most electric shavers/toothbrushes etc, it comes with a european 2 pin plug thingy. So u just need to buy a 2 to 3 pin plug adaptor to charge it. Mine has some charge left, so i could use it straightaway. They are very cheap, under £1 i think. il check on CPC later.

Who said anything about 'days before' or '3 years'. It's a 2 year warranty. First return was where battery failed after around 20 months, that was replaced and the replacement failed after around the same time again with same issue and was replaced. Upgraded to a Diamondclean which had issues with the power/mode button after around 12 months and this has been replaced. When paying £85 for a toothbrush it's pretty reasonable to expect it to last at least 2 years I think, or do you think this is unreasonable? Anyway even with these issues I'll stick to using Sonicare due to how well they perform and the warranty/aftercare has been good when things haven't gone so well with longevity.

Also I don't believe these are manufactured in this country either. And yes i'm sure it's customer returns that have slowed down UK manufacturing and possibly caused the financial crash too

I always use a little Vaseline on my toothbrush heads at the metal prong (not sure if you saw my edit, I mentioned it earlier in the thread). It explicitly said to do this in the Ultrasonex instructions (my first sonic brush, years back), doesn't with Sonicare, though.

Apparently it creates a better seal for the brush head and also makes it easier to remove. I've also seen some say the Vaseline makes it more waterproof, but I wouldn't rely on that - I don't use mine in the shower.

I tend to use ProResults brush heads, so the DiamondClean one is new to me - mine seems okay so far, though.

Its to do with the rotating-oscillating action not the size of the head. Since purchasing this product I have read numerous times than sonic technology is inferior, having said that however the brush certainly seems to do the job.
dewey2
27 Jan 16 #202
There's no ring in the images on Tesco's site but it does mention it in the instructions.

I assume that these models are specific to certain stores? I think Target in the US get customised ones. Maybe these models don't have/need the ring and they haven't bothered changing the manual.
dewey2
27 Jan 16 #203
I thought they might be rubber damping rings but apparently they are just coloured plastic for identification purposes.
louiselouise
27 Jan 16 #204
You get coloured rings if you buy twin packs of Sonicares. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sonicare-Flexcare-toothbrush-replacement-coloured/dp/B004M9VH3E They don't affect the usage of the brush in any way.
louiselouise
27 Jan 16 #205
I think the jury is out - I have asked my dentist explicitly which one he recommends and he was very neutral - he said, "they both do a good job" and didn't seem to want to elaborate.

Maybe it depends on what your dentist is selling/or what his/her personal opinion is.

My brother uses Oral-B and loves his, but hasn't tried Sonicare. I love Sonicare and have only tried a bottom of the range Oral-B rechargeable that definitely didn't improve my tooth and gum health!! but it could be on a par with the cheap, and badly reviewed PowerUp Sonicares which are unpowered and heavy. Not a good introduction to the Oral-B line for me, anyway.
dewey2
27 Jan 16 1 #206
A round brush with rotating action seems more logical since periodontal pockets have a U shape . That's the motion I would assume brings out more plaque than the Sonicare, which just vibrate up and down (when held horizontally).
louiselouise
27 Jan 16 #207
Re periodontal pockets, here is a clinical study I found online in favour of Sonicare http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9487838 (quite an old post though)
And in favour of Oral-B (or "rotating oscillating brushes" at least) http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15190692

It is quite hard to find neutral studies (not sponsored by one or the other) so I would tend to think that both are good. Just my experience of a bottom of the range Oral-B oscillating brush was very bad (I got an extraction and a few fillings during my time using one!!). But I can only fairly judge both brands by testing models in a similar price bracket.

Weirdly enough, Oral-B do have a sonic brush in their range, not sure what that could mean! http://www.amazon.co.uk/Braun-Oral-B-Pulsonic-Rechargeable-Toothbrush/dp/B003U9V7LE
