These actually take a good bit of abuse. Bought one a while back & got 2 months of hard work out of it before I dropped it & broked the power switch.

Yes, you may get away with doing a reasonable area before it breaks or burns out, but you'll really need a raking disc though.......and plenty of dust masks

I got one of these over Christmas and it did what I needed it to do and came with one metal cutting disc. The switch is a bit 'iffy' and is quite difficult to switch on. From reviews this seems to be a recurring issue. I took out the extended warranty for £1.49 which gives cover for 3 years. it is not a serious bit of kit, but for a weekend diyer it comes in very handy. I have always found the Challenge range of tools good value for money and tougher than you would expect for the price.

True - the switch on these are iffy!! and dangerous too. Nothing worse than trying to switch them off and they won't. Irrespective of being cheap or good value for money it is not worth the damage they may cause! Threw mine away...

Would it be easy and safe to cut concrete fence posts with? If so, Any recommendations on well priced discs for the job? For what will be a DIY job this price is ideal for me

I used it to cut concrete gravel boards, had to buy some cutting discs from screwfix as the supplied ones aren't very good, did the job OK.

You are not a very nice person! The man said he had "got 2 months of hard work out of it". A colleague of my ex used to be exactly like that: buy a tool from Argos, Use it for his job and return it for money .. That was then. Didn't like that man one bit!

Think he's trying to take the **** when I said broked, I mean imagine using the wrong word in a sentence. He must have been thinking that this was really his day, he had to go tell the wife & kids, 'Somebody has made a mistake on the internet & I'm going to make a sly joke!', probably made the whole family sit around and watch as he typed out his triumphant post.
I should go sit in shame now or something probably.

This might be a last chance to grab this outstanding piece of a kit! Argos will replace it with the GUILD brand and all Challenge will be a Collectable item!!! :stuck_out_tongue:

I really like this site. but Lads n lasses Lighten up, less of the needle and more of the Banter. We are all on here for the same reason, BARGAINS, there does seem to be a tiny minority whose only contributions seem to be too TROLL.
If you want a Power tool that will last for a while and is reasonable Quality then try Lidl`s Parkside range all with 3 YEAR warranty or Aldi`s WorkZone though most of mine are Parkside and I think are as good as the Bosch DIY range that they have replaced.

If you're asking what a fair priced but decent machine, firstly I'd recommend nothing less than 750w, secondly I'd recommend not attempting any repointing job. If you manage to get away with not filling your lungs with dust, or not damaging your bricks with the grinder, your next challenge is the pointing. Getting the mix wrong could effect the drying process of the brick and do further damage to the brick. If you feel confident to contend with all the above, go for it, otherwise get someone who knows what they're doing (not some cowboy who says he's a pointer and has countless website recommendations, but really doesnt have a clue) to do it properly, or just leave it alone.
