40% (save £6) off at the moment, seems like a pretty decent price.

13 Amp sockets will outlive USB ones, when these will be as redundant as a VHS recorder, a floppy disc drive, or an audio cassette player. Your sockets will then seem so yesterday...

These are usually £13 or so. But thanks for the pointless comment.

To repeat information which comes up every time these things are posted:
- 2.1A is shared so, no, they won't charge 2 tablets (or some phones) at a decent speed.
- Yes, they are 'always on' - so using a small amount of power all the time (like leaving your phone charger plugged in).
- They may or may not fit your existing socket boxes (depends on depth).
- Tests reveal that many of these things are unsafe (maybe not this brand?).
- Don't mess with your sockets unless you really know what you're doing!
- They'll be redundant (but still using power) when the world moves on from USB.

Good price. The USB 2.1A is shared between the sockets, not 2.1A each. Just in case anyone was wondering.

You do understand these just charge/power the device and dont sync your/ipad/iphone/phone/etc to your house? Nothing a cheap adaptor won't be able to sort out.

It has, unless I'm mistaken? LAP, rather than BG, but 2 for £18 is common at Screwfix. Both same spec and LAP has more positive/higher average review.

Depends on how deep your socket recess is because some of these sockets are a bit thicker than a standard socket, if it's deep enough then it's just the same as changing a socket.

Good idea but they don't charge very quickly. About the same time as a computer USB charger. Best using the charging plug.

I got the LAP ones (2 for £18) yesterday. I fitted one, it was a bit of a squeeze, but just fitted. Interestingly I see the photos don't show the screw heads on the face plate?

Well, yes - but that's not what you said - you said why hadn't the 2 for £18 deal been posted before, and I was merely pointing out that it had.

2.1 amps shared between 2 sockets is low! New phones / tablets use 3 amps each.
You're better off just using the plug that came with your device instead of wasting money on these.

You know the way things are going I can imagine the USB socket replacing the 13amp socket someday.
One of these has hugely decluttered my kitchen workspace from three gang adapters and transformers.

Aren't these constantly using power, even when there is nothing plugged in to the USB?
coco2007
11 Jan 16#30
Can't see how it would be anything remotely significant, if nothing's plugged in it won't be drawing any power...

These are great, essentially 4 outlets in one.
They get warm if fully loaded (it's a transformer after all).
The report claiming they will kill you to death is 10 years old and tested cheap Chinese imports.
They draw constant power, but very small amount.
£8.99 is a bargain
That's the usual questions dealt with.

2.1a is decent, that's the max on standard chargers however if you have a phone with a fast charger a standard USB charger like this won't fast charge so you might find that you don't even use the USB ports on this in the future, or you might end up replacing them with new sockets that do have quick charge compatible ports. It's easier to use an adaptor or even a multiport hub that supports quick charge, that can be replaced in the future with less hassle.
USB is switching pretty fast to USB type C (See new Apple Macbooks, Google Pixel tablet, HP Elitebook Folio) which is a different socket. Yes you can always use an adaptor but in a couple of years it's going to look a bit crap especially with the low power throughput will take longer to charge devices as batteries get higher capacity.
The reason these and many other versions are getting so cheap is they know they won't be able to flog them in another 12 months and want to clear stock before they're almost worthless.

Don't be tempted. I've had one for over a year and I've Sussed that it's this that wrecked the batteries on an iPhone 5s iPhone 6 ipad and the wife's s4. It's the common denominator in what we use to charge!

USB C will output far more power and would likely be not as easily placed in a socket such as these. In any event there are always adapters or change these face plates, they cost around the same as buying stand alone chargers.

Will the adapters up the power to 5 amps?
I don't think they will.

These are now £7.49, just bought a couple and installed then within half an hour. Not quite as good as my 2A Samsung Charger but worth it for the convenience alone.
