Evening all

I'm new to this, and have an opportunity to move from a company car to a car allowance, and this was a car I was looking at, so I hope this is still around in a couple of months.

Just need to work out whether the saving in car tax and the allowance will make this worthwhile. I probably do around 10,000 a year, certainly no more.

You need GAP insurance, and you need GAP insurance to also cover your initial down payment. Personal leasing costs a bit more than business leasing. It's usually better to lease than buy a brand new car. I don't know much more than that.

As others have said, your best but is to get a cheap runabout with a small-ish engine size so you don't get murdered for insurance, esp if you're under 25. Once you have been driving 1-2 and maybe done 10k miles it's time to think about the next step

Price pm goes up if you extend the lease to 3 or 4 years! And, choose a nicer model with a list price of 10% more and the lease costs you 50% more! Conclusion? A. The lease company is buying this model way below list because it's not selling and B. The lease company is keen to get this car back when it's only
2 years / 20k miles to dump into the auction market.

Nothing wrong with FWD as long as the power delivery is managed.

Hubby drives a 460bhp Ford Focus RS which is FWD and that has no problems at all.. :innocent:

Manufactures have spent a long time developing and testing these cars so i really dont see why FWD or RWD would be an issue on any car.. its down the the driver and his/her right foot at the end of the day.. <3

My dad is thinking about taking out a lease deal - does anybody know if there are age restrictions, or is it just a case of having a decent credit rating? He's nearly 78 but got guaranteed pension income.
Also, my mother still smokes, and insists on smoking in their car (I won't set foot in it, it's absolutely rank even if she hasn't been in it recently) - would this be a problem on a leased car when it comes time to hand it back? Do they make you sign to say nobody will smoke in the vehicle like you would get on a home tenancy agreement?
Thanks for any advice

I think he was referring to the heritage. BMW and Mercedes kept RWD when everyone switched to the 'more economical' FWD. In the M and AMG cars, getting the back out on a track and corning sideways (if the marshals on the trackway don't flag you) is as much fun as it gets. Audi's 'should' be Quattro from their rallying heritage. The S models put down a serious amount of usable power.

Agreed the diffs have come a long way on FWD cars and the Focus is probably the best example. Bet thats a nice toy!

I didn't say it did. Perhaps I should have said one being VAT registered is beneficial.

You can claim 100% of the VAT back if you are and the car is solely business use. If it's part personal, you can only claim back the proportion of the cost which is used for business.

Often rates are better on a business contract due to the way they are underwritten - in this case, the deal is pretty much just the price + VAT for the personal customer as it's down to the company underwriting it.

Good deal.

I went for this deal and picked up the car last month:

Audi A4 1.4 TFSI Sport

With the excess mileage of 7.2ppm on that deal, it'd cost me £5,495 overall if I done 10k per year.

I tend to do 9k per year on average so my deal should work out at about £5,351.

Regarding the car itself, whilst I wouldn't call it a powerful car, I was pleasantly surprised given my expectations for a 1.4 engine in a car of this size. I suppose one has to remember that the new model also knocks more than 100kg of the weight of its predecessor.

excess mileage isn't as simple as just the 7.2ppm once you go over, they have a clause usually i.e 7.6ppm for the first 500 miles then its something ridiculous like 30 ppm. if yours hasn't then its a great deal.

ajgrahamdotcom
14 Jan 16 #94
You would be insane to lease your first car, 20% chance of a crash in the first year (source), and much higher percentage of scrapes happening. If you wrote off your 20k lease car you'd have to claim on the insurance whereas if you just bought a low cost car you could take the hit and not claim (assuming no other car/person is involved).

You'd have to have any damage repaired on a lease before handing it back (or get hit with big repair bills), whereas your own car obviously you wouldn't have to get aesthetic damage repaired.

Just had a quote from Horizon and its £191.72pm on a 3 + 23 contract which equals £4984.72inc vat. Then include the £180 admin fee brings it to £5164.72 total, that's cheaper than the OP has shown I believe! Great deal in my eyes!

Also I've been told the maintenance is around £14 extra per month but it doesn't include tyre punctures, so might be better off without maintenance.

I'm a newby trying to make sense of leasing. I don't currently drive any car but I'm thinking of leasing one like this and I would like to do a complete estimation of the total cost per month of driving a leased car like this one.
Am I right in thinking that, to make this estimation, the only things to include to the price quoted here are the fees + servicing + insurance + petrol? That total divided by the number of months should give me the estimated cost per month (to which I will then substract what I pay for public transport now).

I've been checked out I can now confirm I'm not insane, stats can be manipulated to fit a wide variety of arguments. Of course If I had an accident or incident that was major I would have to claim on insurance but that is irrelevant to how long I've been driving or whether my first car was a lease. Your point that your first car should be 'a low cost car' is a personnel opinion and no amount of stats will change it from being an opinion. Don't believe every thing they tell you

Probably worth just going to Audi, they normally do it within an hour and wash it too....

If there if they have of the spec. you want or have already ordered it (they order cars from Audi before they sell them) then not long. However, if it has to be built (factory order) then you are looking at 8-12 weeks, even longer if it gets stuck in the port of Harwich like my A6 did :-(

15 Jan 16 #119
To be clear, for a first car, most people would go for
1. Small, low power, undesirable and low value: to make it easy to drive and cheap to insure
2. Old. In order to get it cheaper and not fret if it picks up bumps and scrapes
3. Owned not leased, because you generally only lease new cars, which are expensive; and crucially, because you have to return the car after the [2] year lease period in pretty good nick, so you'll be forced to pay for repairs to any bumps and scrapes that you pick up, whereas if you own the car you might not bother because it's uneconomic. I own a great little car worth about £3k that would cost about £2k to fix up, so I don't bother but if I had leased it, I might have had to shell out

I also had a phone call with the sales guy shortly after, who said he was likely to be there until about 10pm due to the popularity of this deal, and that he would expect the deal to be pulled soon (usual sales talk, I know, but just passing on the info).

Audi Stafford matched the price on Stable Vehicle Contracts but that was the 6+23 deal at £188 per month.

Im awaiting a call back from my local Audi dealer to arrange an appointment, so I can see what they can offer, if anything.

I wouldnt part ex against a lease if you could avoid it. First time I leased I tried that and got silly low quote for the part ex as the deposit on the lease is so low they wont like giving out hard cash for the balance.

I got much more from weWANTanycar.com not to be confused with webuyanycar.com who gave a silly offer. I asked wewant to quote as I was deciding what to do, he gave a good quote which would prob have gone down had I waited and gone back so I took it straight away and he therefore had no way of backing out of giving a much lower quote on a different day. May just have been luck

How much did you get GAP on this car for? and from where?

I didnt do GAP on my current lease that ends in april and nothing happened to it so far, before this Audi arrives
troytempey0
17 Jan 16 #144
I had a quote off CHL at £143.99, though it was pointed out it may be delivery in April onwards now due to low stock.
CHL communication is really good though I do not know how reputable they are.
I have taken it to the local Audi dealer who got back to me to say the best they could do is £173/month but then went on to say that Fleet Sales will look at it tomorrow morning (Monday) as they have more discount options.
Not holding my breath though.

18 Jan 16 #149
did they charge an admin fee? and who did you speak to?
troytempey0
18 Jan 16 #150
Audi Dealers don't charge the admin fee so there's a saving there of £348 which equates to £14.50/month.
I have been offered the deal for £150/month at Audi so with no admin fee this equates to £135.50/month if my maths are correct?
So first payment is £1295.89 plus £3450 (23 x £150) = £4745.89. This works out overall as £197.75/month over 24 months.
However it is now factory order so be the end of April :-(

I haven't signed anything yet regarding the payments, only initial one that they looking for a car for me now, so probably best to give them a call tomorrow to confirm I suppose?
mr_wacky_unis to ievabf

Sounds like the audi dealer may and I say "may" be trying to have you over as that's not the same deal at all. Horizons price includes vat.
troytempey0 to ievabf
18 Jan 16 #160
ievabf, I had the quote for £144 on Saturday. I printed it out and called the Audi dealership who said, come down and see us as they will at least match it if it is a written quote (after all it all done by VAG Finance). So late afternoon I went down and a Saleswomen went through everything and even said metalic will be about £13. Went for a test drive ...all good,
On return they were locking up so she was getting back to me Sunday morning. 2pm called to say the best Sales can do is £179 so their Fleet department will sort it out on Monday.
They sorted everything and came back with £150/month, no admin fee and £1295 down ...I asked for it to be emailed over....nothing. Chased them up twice and was told that they were trying to source one from stock but may have to order it. Request a written quote again and it arrived around 4:30pm
Checked it and it looked OK until I read the bottom paragraph which said ALL prices quoted are subject to VAT at 20%.
Felt totally conned!!
Chased the fleet sales woman up and was given the old storey of all prices quoted exclude vat (crap). Escalated to the Dealership Manager who is supposed to be calling in the morning,,,dont expect anything from her either.
So....please double check with them before you go any further ...dont get tricked by them.
ievabf
18 Jan 16 #161
I'll give them a call tomorrow to speak to the guy's manager, got really poor customer service from him. If i had horizon quote printed (which I still got) to match and haven't signed anything regarding monthly payments, hopefully they will honour it...
ievabf
18 Jan 16 #162
Im actually feeling conned now... Will see what the manager says tomorrow. If they don't agree to £150 inc vat, can i still get my £500 deposit back?
troytempey0
18 Jan 16 #163
Sorry mate, that's just how I felt, totally conned. I missed a call near 5pm from the Fleet Sales Manager so I will call tomorrow. I don't expect anything more than a "sorry" so I will escalate it through to their head office, hopefully others won't get conned.
Have you any paper work that you can check to see if it is plus vat. As the other chap quoted by Audi Manchester has been treated the same way I would imagine yours will be plus vat.
I am sure if you state strongly that you always asked for a personal lease plan and the quote given to them to be beaten or matched they will return the £500.
Hope all goes well for you tomorrow.

how does it drive by the way
troytempey0
18 Jan 16 #165
Hi Cigbunt, on Saturday the broker could have delivered late March, early April. Now it's possibly May?
The Audi dealer didn't have the 1.4 engine but had the 2.0 diesel (both 150 BHP) so I drove that even though I know it's not exactly the same torque range etc. It was really quiet and smooth and the gearbox really slick though I did go from 2nd to 5th a few times with the 6 speed manual box (i have an auto at the mo).
The audi has a coasting feature (like the stop start) which stops the engine if there's enough momemtum to keep it going which was really weird, felt like everything had turned off ...

Great price £4891.20 over the period. I've asked for a quote - just in case the prices go from the site.

I'm still waiting for a demonstrator to be available at my local Audi (Cardiff/Bristol/Bath) dealer for a test drive, I'm not sure the 1.4 engine will suit motorway driving. They suggested taking the 2.0 TDI out for a drive - but I declined, I want to see what the 1.4 Petrol engine is like. I asked at the dealer about matching the deals online, but they weren't really interested, I was supposed to be emailed a contract hire quote on Monday, but I've not seen it as yet.

troytempey0
20 Jan 16 1 #187
I test drove the 2.0TDI on Saturday but I do not think it is a true test drive of the car referred to in the lease quoted.
Equipment was identical and it was apparrantly the same 6 speed box and suspension.
The car is really good quality, smooth and quiet and the gearbox was pretty slick though very close gears as I went from 2nd to 5th a few times. Some of the fuel saving tech is strange, like the coasting control which turns the engine off if it feels you can coast, felt strange (buy I think you can turn it off).
Unfortunately though I didn't get a feel of the 1.4 engine. The salesman kept saying it's the same power output but I know it wont be the same when on the motorway or around town.
Having said that I have since watched and read a few reviews but mostly on European roads and they say it was good and pacey on the motorway but a bit fidgety in the city.
I have been down the Audi quote matching route and they are a total waste of time.
Hope this helps?

26 Jan 16 1 #200
We tried Lincoln but whoever my husband spoke to there wasn't interested and said they couldn't come near it - strange how they seem to chop and change their mood on a whim!! The 10k p/a deal from Doncaster is costing us £4670 in total over the 2 years - unexpected bonus was that this includes road tax, us novices hadn't realised that!

With regards to the servicing, we were told that these generally don't need services within 20,000 miles/2 years depending on how you drive them, so there's a good chance it wouldn't be needed before you hand it back. If it does tho, you'd be responsible. However they said that if it needs serviced and you're taking another car there's a good chance they'd overlook it for you.

Ours took 1 week build, and then a further 2.5 weeks to get to the dealership. I think we were lucky with ferry timing to UK, but it then sat in UK for 1 week waiting for stobarts to transport it to the dealership (who we had persuaded to match the selectcarleasing deal, but with the benefit of delivery in 6 weeks instead of 12).

You probably already know but you can check the build progress in the link in the first post here (ours became live on the tuesday of our build week)
http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/youraudi-track-new-car-order.245697/

The 1.4 engine is surprisingly powerful, and this is coming from somebody who replaced a Focus ST 2.5T with this 1.4T Audi. The 1.4T has perfectly adequate power and absolutely more than enough power to overtake when required.

Damn......I am having to wait until the 2nd March. I will be so jealous of you on Tuesday. What colour did you opt for? I went for Brilliant Black.
georgieboy123
29 Feb 16 #240
I went for black too. Got the reg. number now. Sold my existing vehicle back to the dealer I bought it from, not the best value option but easiest. Drop it to them in the morning and then pick the Audi up from round the corner. nice.

Thanks for letting me know. Mine has just gone into build stage so hopefully have it in about 4 weeks. Glad to hear the engine more than sufficient.

Thanks iain

Just got mine, very nice. I like it. Got mine from Audi Stafford, impressed all the way through the process including bunch of flowers for the dear wife

Got the order papers from York Audi yesterday (finance agreed weeks ago) for april delivery and noticed one of the papers referred to tyres having to be the same level of tread, make etc as the ones provided. Im assuming that means audi finance will expect a brand new set of tyres when you hand it back

Not sure if thats usually the case but I asked Mercedes today as my current lease goes back in April and they said existing tyres are fine as long as minimum 1.6mm of tread right across and that all 4 had to have equal levels and be the same make

I sold by Astra back to dealer. My A4 arrived at 10am this morning. Any idea what we do to get the 3 month free Audi Connect trial. Is is as simple as entering a data SIM card and registering? Also noticed I cannot have iPhone connected via USB and have radio unless I am doing something daft. Maybe one day I will read the instruction book.

4 Mar 16 #245
Dave,
The car should already contain a SIM card (normally in the panel with USB slots)
It will just stop working after 3 months, after which you should be able to put your own data sim in if you want to continue to use Audi connect services.

What's the best deal on these currently? The best I can find is around £200 pm which is 6 + 23 (£1200 up front).

Thanks.

This is now the best deal. Get your Audi garage to match without the broker fee. I dealt with Julie burton at ridgeway Audi Oxford. She was able to price match the best deal at the time

Did anyone take the additional insurances through Audi? I'm thinking of going for the gap insurance but still deciding about the smart repair and wheel&tyre

For the people who have got their cars now what sort of mpg are you getting?
georgieboy123
7 Mar 16 #251
I did 60MPH for about 35 miles on the M/way the other day and got about 50MPG. I drive to work (about 9 miles) and I'm getting about 35MPG at the moment but it has been quite cold. On another note, Is it my imagination or are other drivers treating me differently now I drive and Audi (as opposed to Kia). I think they are, like worse.

I broke mine this evening. Had to call Audi Assistance (AA). Tried to do a 3 point turn out of car park and Audi Sense kicked thinking I was trying to crash it into the building. Refused to start and ended up pushing it 20 yards back across car park. Restarted after about 10 mins. AA did a full diagnostic check and nothing showed up. AA followed me home and there response was around 45 mins. Averaging around 40mpg at the minute 280miles on clock inc 148 delivery miles.

Has anyone else had a phone call saying their car won't be built now till June??? I have gone through select car leasing and was told to expect a March/April delivery. They have offered me the 1.4 Se model so far with early April delivery but working out £800 more expensive??
