This was advertised as refurbished some time ago and seemed to get good feed-back on this site. It now appears to be a new machine that is being sold and there is an additional 10% off. (Was £209.99).
Obviously not top of the range but would probably perform OK for browsing, office work etc.
10% off promo has ended. Still a good price

So what?
It's not tiny, but easy enough to tuck out of the way
and as for the spec, my i3 runs a 4Tb hard drive for Plex server, Film, Music, photos, Streams to 3 boxes at the same time AND I happily run office, rip CDs, remote desktop onto it from my laptop, root my phone, flash new ROMs, and run a variety of VMs (Linux flavours).
It has yet to concern me in the least with any performance issues.

its excellent for the price, and will play a lot of games fine, just not the latest and greatest, lots of ram too. some people just like to diss everything for not having things that arent realistic at the price point, and would have something negative, and besides the point to say no matter what it was, and as has been said they can offer nothing better, only annacdotal evidence the got one cheaper once etc. So good post n good price mate well done, just ignore the nay sayers. Ok rant over lol

Bit confused by your comment Incognitoso - I appreciate that this is not a high end PC but, as I originally posted, it would seem to be suitable for browsing and office work. I would be interested if you could provide a link to a higher spec. PC for the same price.

What can I say : a very big .....big desktop with low CPU + GPU and other low components
Usage web pages and office For little gaming need to add GPU + PSU
Now 2016 and for similar money you can get mini PC
What I mean is why they selling big box case with low end components ??? What the reason for this ?? The mainboard will be mini ITX

F you are planning to use this for anything more than web and docs then think about adding new PSU, new GPU then should be fine but that sort of adds £200 onto price... :\

Good price for the spec. For most things it will be fine. Even some older games like starcraft (original) should be fine with the HD 2500 onboard graphics.
This is a really good machine even at entry level pricing. Its a 3rd gen i3 which is not to be sniffed at. For everyday use this system would more than cover it. I suppose if you can in a £50 gfx card it will run even better when watching video or playing some games like The Sims and such like.

great for an htpc tower; will handle anything you throw at plex. of course could probably be built for £150 but great for amateurs.

Currently using a quad core Q6600 with 2gb ram and a HD6850. Would this be a good upgrade to my current spec?
Would it play games ok with the i3 and HD6850?
Running Starcraft 2 on my current spec no trouble but for this price I may consider moving to the i3.
xela333 to daz2712

This would be a decent upgrade yes but the stock PSU would not support your 6850. You would need to swap it for your old one or buy a new one
Plus you get windows 7 and Windows 8 media with free upgrade to a Windows 10

A better bet for plex or gaming would be this technically it's a server but came be used for games with a GPU

The T&Cs say "2.The promotion is open to businesses or organisations operating in mainland UK and Northern Ireland only. " so an individual buying would need to buy as a business.

Not everyone plays games on a computer,in fact I only know one person, adult that is,amongst my friends, all adults, that plays games.
When I think back to the days of 286 chips 16mb ram and 20mb hard drive but still using the PC for graphics work it makes the comments re"Crap for gaming" rather purile. :stuck_out_tongue:

Argos have a 30 day return policy - Not sure of the details but, if you're worried, I'd have a look at the terms and conditions.
I've only posted a few items on this site but some of the comments have been very interesting. In particular, all of the references to the suitability of this machine for gaming. Without wanting to upset the gamers (is that what a group of people who play games is called?) I was never looking for a gaming machine and did not post the deal with this in mind. I was looking for a cheap machine to replace my (very) old one and this seemed to be the best I could find. I hope the link helped a few other people with the same requirement.

If I beefed it up with a few more components could I turn this into an entry level gaming PC? Can't be any worse than my current one!

Asus, decent brand. i3 3rd gen, decent chip, 6Gb, Ram, totally fine for most uses and cheap to add, 1 TB drive, great. Hotukdeals is a great resource, but if this was a car group and every decent family car had BTL comments "It can't get do 0-60 mph in less than 4 secs", you'd just shake your head and laugh. For computers, it seems to be fine.
What's the % of computing time that the whole sway of non-gaming users would find these specs annoying? I would guess it's not even 0.1 %, possibly not even 0.01 %. Ripping DVDs will be slower, but the vast majority of users won't find many applications that they think 'hurry up'. What are non-gaming people using the cpus for that need an i7?

I dont game, ever, but do use it for Photoshop etc, thats my profession. So SSD and lots of ram and great graphics cards are more useful than just a top spec CPU.
I can recall the days when I would leave something to render and make a coffee or even have lunch while the rig did the work :-)
This offer gives a competent PC and like any other tool you select it if it does what you want it to do.

They have it listed 3 times now. £220 refurb, £200 refurb or £185 brand new. Just ordered one to run my plex server from. Got to be better than my 5 year old laptop that's been recently switching off due to over heating. Plus this thing seems to be very cheap to run according to reviews of the cpu.
