The Asda George Home GPK201B is a very cheap kettle. Kettles in this price range don't often do well in Which? tests, but is this Asda model an exception to the rule? We've tested it on everything from how quickly it boils to how good the filter is at keeping out scale to how much noise it makes, so read on for our full review.

This kettle was a real surprise - it's the cheapest Best Buy we've found in years.

What is it?

A jug-shaped plastic kettle from Asda's George Home range.

What's it great at?

It's got large, clear water windows on both sides of the kettle, making it easy to see how full it is from almost any angle.

It boils quickly - four cups of water takes just over two and a half minutes - and it doesn't make much noise while boiling.

You only need to fill it with 310 ml - enough for a large mug - to use it, so it doesn't force you to waste time and electricity by boiling large amounts of water that you don't need.

The filter does a good job of keeping limescale out of your cup.

Is there anything I should watch out for?

The open button doesn't open the lid fully, so you need to pull it back by hand.

It's tough to clean the inside of the kettle, as the lid opening isn't wide enough for large hands to get into.

Is there anything else I should know?

It's very easy to use - filling, carrying and pouring are all very straightforward with this kettle.

It's also available in white (GPK201W) and grey (GPK201S).

Should I buy it?

Yes - it does everything you would want it to and it's cheap to boot.

My mum bought one of these a few months back for this price, it isn't a flashy kettle, but she likes it a lot, only minor gripe is that the aperture for filling is a little small.

I suspect this one has a flat element whereas the other 2 cheaper kettles posted above have curly elements. The flat element ones are better, boil a smaller minimum amount of water and easier to clean element.

Available in 3 colours. I bought a black one. :smiley:

2.5 minutes to boil four cups of water? How big are the cups and what does Asda consider slow boil?!!
