The killer feature of the new ATV is the universal search. For example - search for "toy story" and you get a page for toy story, with visibility of all the streaming services/apps you subscribe to.
People saying other devices are better are missing this important point. It puts the power back into the hands of the user - you can instantly select the cheapest option from a number of services
If I use the search on my Fire TV it only searches Amazon, I have to load up Netflix to search their content, and it doesn't support voice search.

Actually the TV Licence is changing to include those who only use the On Demand features of iPlayer, meaning they will now be subject to the annual TV Licence fee, it looks like the change will be introduced at some point in 2016. Personally I disagree with them including On Demand as this is completely changing the meaning behind the licence fee which was only ever setup to cover live television. It won't be long before they try to include DVD's and Bluray. http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2015/07/06/bbc-iplayer-catchup-users_n_7737080.html
I also believe that the BBC will use this to force those who use ITV Player, 5OD and All 4 to also be subject to the licence fee as outlined in this article: http://www.theguardian.com/media/2015/oct/29/bbc-iplayer-loophole-channel-4-tv-licence

This device is early days so there are better and cheaper alternatives (this is coming from someone who owns and loves it). Give a year or two though and things may be very different if it has strong developer support, as that was one of the main things that separated the iPhone from the competition.
The early signs point to that being the case.
