I got the Salter Pro 1000 from a Robert Dyas offer on here last year (came to less than £40 delivered).
I've used it every day since and find it excellent. I can't really see any downsides or how it could be significantly bettered, particularly at this price. It comes with only one set of blades (I think the expensive Nutribullets may come with a spare blade base ?). It seems solid enough and well made with good rubber suction feet that stop it vibrating on the kitchen surface.
It's very powerful at 1000w and demolishes frozen fruit / ice / nuts etc. in seconds and leaves no little bits (eg nuts) either .. just a smooth liquid to drink :-).
However it is best to add liquid to frozen fruit to keep the smoothie at least pourable, otherwise you end up with a thick paste that the motor will slow slightly and get quite hot. I use semi or skimmed milk, Almond milk or Coconut milk for this rather than water.
It comes with three beakers, the largest being 1 litre ... so this is an advantage if you want to make smoothies for two !
I find it very easy to clean
My tips would be :
1. Never overfill it - best to keep under the three- quarter mark of the beakers.
2. Screw the beakers into the bade base quite tightly as they can loosen during blending (and leak)
3. Never use it for more than 30 seconds at a time (as per instructions) - that is plenty anyway.
4. Rinse the blades straight away after blending
5. Keep the outer sealing ring in the blade base clean (it's like a white silicone sealing ring)
6. To blend you either push and hold the beaker down for a few seconds or you can push and twist clockwise to lock the beaker in the blend position and remove you hand while it blends. Be careful when untwisting (to stop the blending) that you don't lift the beaker at the same time before the blades have fully stopped. I've done this a few times initially and it can grates/grind the contact points between the bottom of the beaker unit and the main unit.
7. There are three white plastics slots on the base unit that push down when the beaker+blades is attached for blending. These can occasionally get sticky (from leaks) and stiff. Every now and again they need cleaning by dabbing / pushing with hot water and kitchen roll - MAKE SURE UNIT IS OFF AT THE MAINS WHEN DOING THIS !!

Unlike Vodafone CS fiasco on the LG G4 phone, Sainsbury's phone system actually directs you to the right department to make a query. A very friendly and knowledgeable person giving the reasons for my non delivery...OOS, stock not allocated, same problem with the Lynx tablet, a horrible website called hot ebay comp posted this product :laughing::laughing:...the problem was I didn't get notified the delivery was not going ahead. So he rang the store and came back straightaway and apologised that something must have gone wrong. He didn't try to hide behind a smoke screen and give me BS. He kindly said he will send me a £25 code to use on next shop with no expiry. Not a great outcome regarding the product itself but because they took the trouble to explain clearly and factually the reasons behind it I was OK about it....so will give them another go in the future.

I have put a comment on the Sainsbury's Facebook page explaining the issue I have with their on-line ordering and stock allocation process. When you order a £40 electrical item it should allocate the stock to you and not take you through the payment and choosing a delivery slot (and paying for it) if they don't know if they will actually have any stock or not on the day of your delivery from the local store they have chosen.
Lets hope Argos takes over Sainsbury's and gets them sorted out !
BigYoSpeck to Nesima
13 Jan 16#284
It's swings and roundabouts. Doing it this way lets Sainsburys include these items in regular grocery shopping rather than splitting them like Tesco and Asda do for such items.
The issue probably doesn't crop up enough for them to justify a rewrite of the sites code to include what would be needed to implement it. And remember they've still sold the item for it to be sold out so they haven't lost any custom. A few good will gestures for the people that are inconvenienced by it keeps them sweet.
And let's face it, I've stomped my feet in the past and said I won't shop somewhere again, but when that somewhere comes up cheaper for something I've caved.

Sainsbury's what a bunch of prize wazzacks !
Took part of the afternoon of work to be home for my 16:00 delivery.
Got a call at 15:00 from a local Sainsbury's store advising as they have no stock they will not be delivering !
I pointed out I ordered from the website, not a local store, when I ordered the item was in stock and I was asked to choose and pay for my delivery slot.
Apparently stock is not allocated to you when you order an in stock item, apparently stock is only allocated on the morning of your delivery day when Sainsbury's Head Office send your order to the store they choose to deliver to you.
Pathetic and misleading.
I said I don't care where Sainsbury's deliver the item from that is of no interest to me as I ordered it from the website not a specific store. They suggested I could visit local stores to see if they had any stock.
I said why would I want to do that when I have ordered from what I thought was a national website.
This will be my first and last order with this bunch of clowns, back to John Lewis for me.

I reckon they will make a good will gesture of some kind. I had a delivery 10 minutes late and I didn't even need to complain, I just got the delivery charge refunded and a £10 off voucher. They have a lot of good will gestures at their disposal for new customers.
Just be really polite and understanding with their customer service and they'll be cool with you, or if complaining over the phone isn't your cup of tea slap it on their facebook page.

I also failed to receive the delivery. We did, however, receive a phone call on the day of delivery to say that it was OOS and tough luck.
It seems to be as though Sainsbury's have realised what's happened with lots of people ordering the same item with the same code, and have basically declined to honour the offer. Combined with the dreadful website (including the ridiculous "alternative" tick box others have fallen foul of), it doesn't leave a great first (and only) impression of online shopping with Sainsbury's.

Ice is a solid. Yes, it is the name of frozen water, but that is still water in its solid form. Most solids become liquid if heated to the correct temperature and they become gas if heated further. All gasses and fluids become solid when the temperature drops far enough. That's basic physics. Maybe it's not me and BigYoSpeck who need to go back to school ...

If you're looking for an alternative, the Salter Nutri Pro 1000 has been mentioned quite a few times in this thread. Best price currently seems to be £40 at Wilkos. The silver has sold out, but available in red - http://www.wilko.com/blenders-food-mixers+processors/salter-nutri-pro-red/invt/0423078 Go via a cashback site and pickup in store for the best price.
A few useful replies on it in this thread about it:

Plus it does a better job of breaking down the skin of fruit, seeds and nuts than most peoples attempts at mastication do.

Just like to point out that almond milk is an acquired taste and that all recipes are not as wonderful and delicious as the promotional videos try to make out but the benefits are all there. Just adding almonds to the mixture will give you the same taste as almond milk which you can make yourself anyway, just add almonds to water in the machine and blend adding fewer or more almonds to suite your taste.

They won't do that to a 'new' customer, if the receipt the driver gave you is for £3.30 that's all you will pay, they can't charge you more after you've accepted the delivery with that price receipted as you don't have the option to refuse the order.
Honestly they bend over backwards for new customers, I had a delivery 10 minutes late once and they refunded the delivery cost and gave me another money off code for my next order.

Yes i just tried this code with them and they say it has expired which is ashame so i just canceled my order. Il keep my eye out.
Well mine has just turned up, exactly as ordered  Correct machine, correct price..and the fruit I ordered to test it with  Not bad considering I ordered this only 23 hours ago.
The driver said they had received over 50 orders to that one store alone and he's delivered loads today as a result of it hitting this site - seemed fully aware of the deal and how "hot" it's gone.
Thanks OP - fingers crossed for the rest of you still waiting on a delivery - the blenders do exist and are being delivered...

Just had driver come to door with mine delivery, it was a Nutribullet rather than a Ninja. I got the impression from speaking to him that it was a free upgrade but nope, when I look closer at the receipt I've been billed full amount. Just checked and as per my earlier comments, this is treated as any other grocery item, by default with substitutes turned on. Sainsburys operate their subs by sending a replacement item AND charging you the difference. You can of course refuse the item and get refunded. If, as I imagine most do, you only want this particular item, turn off the sub option when ordering (click on 'Full Trolley View' before you click 'Checkout' (link is beside it) and then un-check the 'Allow Substitute Box').

Hope it's good. Just recommend to anyone considering going for this (the Salter at Wilkos), don't forget cashback (4.04% TCB, 4% Quidco - both as a 'standard' member) and also if you can select for them to deliver to store and pickup it's free (but means a bit of a delay as even if they have one on the shelf they'll wait for your newly ordered one to arrive).
Someone please tell me that that is not a Nutri Ninja in disguise.

You can but its a faff, and mostly defeats much of the point  The big advantage of one of these over a traditional juicer is that you get to keep all the fibre etc that is normally left over from a juicer. To get juice out of one of these you need to filter/strain the resulting mixture (and ideally only blend it for a few seconds rather than 30) - for example this is a way to make apple juice with one
A juicer extracts just the juice from whatever you put through it an separates the fibre. As a blender this mulches everything fibre included.
You could then pour the smoothie through a sieve and get a smoother smoothie but you'd probably be better off just going with a juicer in the first place if that's what you want and a lot of people feel a smoothie with the fibre in it is better for you anyway as it will slow down the absorption of the sugars from what you blend and also satisfies your appetite better.

Sam1970 - that's not the best way to do things.

I see your point...but as a very long time user of HUKD and MSE websites (actually from when they started), saving even £1 gives me a very great pleasure. I do not have one of these . I do have a masticating juicer which needs the fruit/veg to be cut up small before juicing. It isn't noisy.
However I know with garden shredders that the noisy type just don't get used because of the noise - it sounds by peoples' descriptions that this will end up being avoided.

Trial and error, but thanks for the warning, don't want to burn it out before I even start. I learnt over Christmas when I used a hand blender and padded it out with red peppers that pureed mince is disgusting. Never again. I am roasting then boiling the veg, hopefully with this it will be a lot faster. Probably more energy efficient as well. Though the increased methane from the farting may counteract the energy savings for the planet.

I would second this, I am careful what I put in my smoothies, not too much acidic fruit. Also, I discovered a few years ago that beetroot can give you terrible stomach pains! I had started drinking a glass of beetroot juice every day and eating probably one small cooked unpickled beetroot each day too. I suddenly had terrible stomach pains, which it turned out were due to the beetroot. I'm not just talking upset stomach, but proper severe pains. I had to give it up completely!

Sounds like you're trying to blend too much to be honest. Not just for the blender to cope with but also in terms of a sensible amount of fruit to have in one go if you're also then adding juice. That sounds like a lot of sugar to take in a single serving.
Most recommended recipes are 2 or 3 80g portions of fruit and chuck some other ingredients like oats, 100% peanut butter, linseed / flax seed and greek yoghurt with water or milk.
I blend frozen mango, carrot banana and apple in it every day. Sticking to 2 or 3 80g servings in each smoothie has never caused any struggle to blend up in about 30 seconds with then say 5x 2 second pulse blends to get the consistency a little less thick.

Yes same product the ninja professional. I cut up about a weeks worth of fruit then put it in the freezer. I fill the blender about 3/4 with fruit and add juice. It won't blend on the first attempt I have to wait at least 20-30 minutes then come back to it. Maybe I cut the fruit to big I don't know, definitely no bigger than a standard Ice cube per chunk.
I'm sure this thing will crush through frozen berries straight away, try apple, pinapple and more solid fruit.. Mine doesn't cur through it.

I bought some of these over Christmas and was just wondering something - Are you able to blend solid ice on it's own with no liquid or will this damage the blade?
The reason I ask, is because it states clearly in the manual that you shouldn't under any circumstances blend any dry ingredients without liquid but later mentions making 'snow' from ice in the troubleshooting section and saying to make sure the container is totally dry before blending... (?)
I'm confused and wouldn't want to break the blade or anything?

I bought this from the last sale. Its great but not sure why guys on here advertises it as an ice crusher, no where in the manual or the box does it say this. The 700w lite has a picture of ice on the box unlike this one so I'm not sure why this has become a thing to say here lol.
It also takes about 30 minutes to blend frozen fruit as you have to wait for it to thaw out a bit.

Are you sure you're talking about the same product?
I make daily smoothies using 160-240g of fruit straight from the freezer (berries, mango, banana etc..) in with greek yoghurt and milk straight from the fridge and 30 seconds of blending makes it absolutely fine to drink straight away no thawing necessary at all.
Using the fruit frozen is actually better as when using thawed/chilled/room temp ingredients the heat from the motor leaves the smoothie warm. Using frozen fruit straight from the freezer ensures that the smoothie is still chilled.

Fantastic machine, got mine just after xmas Homebase for £50 after returning a faulty breville active. Well worth the money will crush everything and doesn't hammer the motor, would recommend spending the little extra for a more powerful motor 700w plus and your covered to do everything. The beakers are quite big though but I just decant into sports bottles for walking. Great price op voted hot.

I got the JL £50 deal, and it has been in use daily. Cleans easily, has changed our eating habits and I can not talk highly enough of it. Not a juicer and you keep the fibre, but ice, juice, spinach, shakes, bircher musli, kale, smoothies.. Makes easy work of them all, and the clean up is so much easier than a traditional blender.

I picked one of these up on offer for £50 and at this price it's even more of a bargain. Honestly if you want a blender don't waste your time with the ~£20 300W jobs which will leave your smoothies full of undrinkable bits just stump up and get a reasonably powerful unit like this that can actually handle seeds and the skin of fruit.

Yes although Sainsbury's seems to be quite lax on their codes. They have been running discount codes for 2nd, 3rd time, 4th and 5th time shop (£10 off £50) - the current code on there expires today but should be a new one soon
Opening post
Use code CATNNSLCJM to get it for £43 delivered (new account code)
Crush ice
- Unlike other models, this clever blender has the ability to crush ice so you can have super chilled drinks without having to refrigerate them first.
Power
-The turbo button and Pro Extractor blade means you can have your juice in an instant and as smooth as you fancy.
Convenience
-There are two settings to extract the nutrients from fresh food as well as frozen food, nuts and seeds.
Accessories
- Comes with a 500ml cup, 650ml cup and 2 Sip & Seal lids, so you can literally grab and go in the morning before work or on your way to the gym. An inspirational recipe booklet is also included so you'll never run out of ideas for healthy, nutritious drinks.

Received next day no probs. Have been using it regularly last few days and probably the best gadget i have bought in years (and trust me i buy a lot!!)
Lets hope Argos takes over Sainsbury's and gets them sorted out !
Not impressed with this not so super market....................:disappointed:
Just be really polite and understanding with their customer service and they'll be cool with you, or if complaining over the phone isn't your cup of tea slap it on their facebook page.
For God sake i have opted out from substitute replacement ; )
Also was on the phone with the consumer service and they gave me £18 voucher with no minimum spend

Doing their absolute best to back out of the deal for loads of people by the looks of it.
:smirk:
Plus it does a better job of breaking down the skin of fruit, seeds and nuts than most peoples attempts at mastication do.
It's a matter of convenience. I use frozen fruits, they can be chucked straight in it. You can also mix things that wouldn't work as a solid based meal.
Just hope the person I spoke to has got some KY Jelly to remove the Ninja from his backside..
Honestly they bend over backwards for new customers, I had a delivery 10 minutes late once and they refunded the delivery cost and gave me another money off code for my next order.
Thanks OP!
Anyway, all washed up and drip drying. Will buy some ingredients tomorrow. Not sure where to get some of the recipe ingredients.
Have is present perfect, had is past perfect. These are neither past nor present tenses, but extentions of them. Either was acceptable in sam1970's case, because present tense deals with the past up until now. You and soldierboy both need grammar lessons.
Apart from the delivery driver wondering the streets looking for the address all arrived fine
Love a ninja
Who do you really think should grow up?
He started his comment out as "in case"....... So... "In the case you hadn't noticed!"
This is clearly referring to past tense.... The past tense being before...and then telling me. "in case you hadn't noticed , saving money is the object of this site"
So 1. Pipe down little gangsta boy...this doesn't concern you.
2.It's best to know what you are talking about before making a so called correction. Especially when you're wrong...soldierkid001
End of...
However another one did....
How rubbish are Sainsburys, they won't send it from the other store, which is actually closer.
Amazon wouldn't be this poor at customer service
Will keep you up to date
im old enough to operate a nutri ninja, not that I will ever have one!
After being told they had cancelled our order without telling us. We went into the store to complain after going back and forth about our wasted journey my partner spotted the nutri ninja behind the customer service desk apparently someone had just returned it un opened as they got the better model. So ended up being lucky and taking that one for £42
My point MATE...was that someone couldnt PAY me £7 to run that errand.....
Also it's "hadn't noticed" not "haven't noticed"...
Cretin
The Mirror (if this means anything) rates the Salter just above the Nutri Ninja - http://www.mirror.co.uk/money/personal-finance/cheap-nutribullet-blender-juicer-deals-5516940 ).
Alternatively, make a new Sainsbury's account with a different email address and then use the new account code on that.
http://testkitchentuesday.com/2011/09/26/making-apple-juice-with-a-ninja-blender/
It's better at making smoothies really.
Still new to this all but there is significant difference between the two.
