After some dissapointment with netgear switches, I have been told to go with Zyxel, cheapest around that I could find, seems like a great price for this.

out of curiosity - what was wrong with your netgear ones? using the 8port 1gig for last couple months and getting excellent speeds

had a zonet 10/100 worked flawlessly for years still does but after getting new gigabit PC, Xbox etc needed a gigabit switch. netgear GS 308, connected when they felt like it, random disconnections, connecting to virgin super hub, had a mixture of straight & crossover wired through house, never a problem with zonet. went around testing changing all cables , crimping new connector one way or the other , but still same problem hit and miss connections, the netgear is suppose to be auto sensing, after a full day of messing about stuck my zonet back on and everything working despite changing most connector to straight. 2 of the same netgear switches , both can't be faulty. so they going back. Anyone else had similar problems?

My Samsung printer doesn't like Netgear switches for some reason but is perfectly happy with my Zyxel

GS108v3 is the one to get from Netgear. I've had a couple of older GS105's go bad because of dodgy capacitors, but nothing a soldering iron couldn't fix. The new v3's have better capacitors.

I have a d-link gigabit switch and found it too has strange issues, disconnections and just issues almost sending data back and forth, quick reboot and its fine but this happens after few days. Connected via virgin hub also !
The thing is once the virgin hub is set to modem only mode and used directly it works fine, maybe the odd reboot every 1-3 weeks, but with my d-link link switch it last 2-4 days before a reboots required, almost like it can't sense the signal or negotiate the link.
I was considering going netgear since they have always been reliable but then I just read your post!
The switch you linked looks good but I read a users review posted here:
So not sure if it fixes the issues which you are getting really, but guess every few months is not bad id rather try something better and more reliable but who knows really, may also try and buy some high quality cat5-6 cables instead maybe the ones I got are cheap n nasty!
Let us know how you get on if you do for this one that loop detection which prevents crashing sounds good, thx

Sounds like your cables couldn't support gigabit connection. Upgrade the cables, or possibly check your haven't got too much straight cable going in to your boots/sockets

quality cat5e cables from a 100m roll, none of my previous switches or router have had issues, its not a speed problem, if it were, switches should still operate at lower speeds , also auto MDI/mdix should be sorting cables out

Received the Zyxel switch, but it did not resolve issue. I ended assigning fixed IP addresses to the desktops that seem to have the problem. So the only thing I can think of that could be causing the problem is either windows 7 or the Realtek onboard NIC, all other devices are happy to connect without configuration to zyxel. cctv recorder, xbox, blueray. great speed, transfer 5gb in under a minute.

thanks for getting back !
So you created a static ip address for your pcs, and the issues seem to be resolved?
Good to hear that if its resolved at least, may have to try something similar on my end.

yes, its just the wired PCs that had issues, so yes give them static IP addresses, obviously outside a range that's going to keep clashing with other devices, I set them above 40, you don't really realise how many devices are connecting to net, There must be about 20 in my house multiple phones, computer media tablets etc.
