Yes you can get a Zenfone 2 for about £50 more - those will ALL be imported. This is a UK phone released by Asus in the UK.
This is my phone, and I don't see myself wasting silly money on anything else anytime soon. Cheapest I've yet seen it.
Asus only sell unlocked phones, so no need to get it unlocked, ever.
This is 4G, an IPS screen, a quad-core CPU, 2GB RAM, 16GB internal and HD screen with Gorilla Glass 3.
Fast, always responsive, and not a single issue in at least a year of use - I love my Zenfone and hope this will be helpful to someone. Even though I know this deal will go cold - it's a "hot seller" on the site - so I really don't care. At least other humans have some sense! :D

It actually does last a day on a 5" screen. Owning one I can confirm this. Not owning one I'm going to assume you just took a guess.

Would i buy this phone or recommend it to family or friends? Answer is no because of it's weak battery.
If it had a bigger battery i.e 2600mAh+ then the answer is yes. Simple fact this phone has a weak battery is a MAJOR NO NO for me and most tech savvy Android smartphone users.

You're stuck on the one point about it which isn't a deal breaker. Look at the bigger picture for a change - as you already cherry picked out of the picture - I've gone back to a Zenfone from a phone with a much larger capacity battery.

A weak battery is a weak battery, you can't defend the indefensible.

There's nothing wrong with defending a phone that has brought me so much joy and continues to - that isn't "falling into a trap" that's just dismissing critique of someone who doesn't even own the phone and can only take guesses based on non-personal experience. It's obvious other phones have longer lasting batteries, but you just make (hardly massive) adjustments to how you use it and plan around it. It's hardly a deal breaker when the rest of the phone experience has been so damn good. And one thing you also won't be very aware of not owning this one, is that the battery recharges VERY fast. An example would be say from about 16% to about 69% in around 20 minutes. This balances things out enough to say the relatively low battery life is balanced out. If it didn't charge so fast then yes, it would be more of an issue. The very fact I went back to this phone from an Xperia Z2 - which has a 3000mah battery - more than proves the battery is not an obstacle.

I agree with this. Software optimisation and switching off wifi scanning and draining apps etc is obviously important, but you cannot get round the fact that a larger screen requires a larger battery to power it.

Zenphone 5 has a non-removable Li-Po 2110 mAh battery, Nexus 4 has non-removable Li-Po 2100 mAh battery. A weak battery is a weak battery. This phone for it's spec's needs at least 2600 mAh+ battery.

Here is a comparison of specifications between the three phones.
As you can see, they all share many specifications, however the Moto G and Ultra 6 are ahead in some areas.
For example, they have 13mp back camera sensors instead of 8mp. And the front camera sensors are 5mp instead of 2mp (I realise megapixels only tell part of the story, but I suspect the 13mp shooters are better).
The other two smartphones also have larger batteries and if you choose the Moto G you are assured a smoother experience since it is running close to stock android and is updated regularly.
At the moment the Moto G has Android 5.1.1 and the Ultra 6 has Android 5.1. In contrast, the ZenFone has Android 4.3. This suggests it will never receive another software update so if something is not working correctly - tough luck.
I am not saying the ZenFone is not a good phone for the price because it is; though I do believe there are better alternatives at the price it is selling at

i don't think i'd buy a phone with a battery smaller than 3000mah, i'd prefer them to fit 4000mah, but the manufacturers stupidly seem more concerned with shaving half a mm off the thickness of the phone.

For this amount of money, I would go with Huawei P8 Lite, £99 at Carphone Warehouse including £10 topup.
Very nice looking phone, 13mpx camera and octacore processor.
Bought one for the wife on white, looks sleek. Huawei P8 Lite

Hi mate. Just wondering this phone or the p8 you linked. Want to replace my Lumia 640 due to lack of apps and the p8 finally has NFC like the Lumia. Is it 100% dual Sim like the specification says? Thought UK retailers would forcefully block this. Only issue is awful battery. Higher capacity than this phone but lasts less according to gsm arena.

I've owned a Nexus 4 with a 2100 mAh battery that had a 4.7'' HD screen and that struggled to last a day (forget about playing a game on the train or tube because then the phone won't last half a day).
Don't fall into a trap like many people on here do... they defend something out of blind loyalty because they either posted up the deal or personally have this phone (regardless if it good or not).
Anyone who is tech savvy will see straight away the phone achilles heel is it's battery.

Shame about the 2110 mAh battery, won't last a day on a 5'' screen phone.

It may be driving a 5 inch display but its not at full HD, only 1280x720 I believe (which is perfectly serviceable I might add) but that does save a lot of battery compared to running a full HD display. So yes, this will easily last a day on a battery that size.

Camera is 8mb. You won't be taking A3 prints material but it's decent enough for snaps. The sensor is apparently a Sony sensor. And yes, it does have a flash. But it's often better to use the low light feature which boosts the light by several hundred percent.

First touchscreen phone I ever owned - dropped my first one down the toilet, got a Sony Xperia Z2. Sold that on and went back to one of these. Glad you like it. I like to whip it out round the shops (sshh) because despite clearly so many people buying it, I've yet to see a single other Asus phone, so I feel unique amongst clones.
Now I stuck as why's the difference apart from the price

YES I LOVE my Zenfone!! The thing I love most is the sheer faff-free experience. And when your daughter looks slightly underwhelmed that it isn't an iphone - just tell her she's now not an Apple/Samsung clone, and that in any case Samsung make most of the iphone components anyway.

This is a KitKat phone - you can 'upgrade' to Lollipop if you root the phone - and there are those options out there that people have made. But I absolutely HATED Lollipop when I tried it on another phone - so I'm more than happy to stay with KitKat. :stuck_out_tongue:
As far as I'm aware Asus don't have Lollipop on the cards for their original phones.
