Pretty good deal considering it comes with the 2 JL guarantee as standard!

The new ones do have a filter, but you cannot access it, well you could if you stripped the machine down, but even so it can get clogged up.

On previous none Zanussi machines I've had on different occasions a wire bra support and a coin get through the pipe work as far as the pump and it just jams up. You had to take the back off and split the pump to release the rotor and you had to lay the machine on it's front so as not to let the water out before you opened the pump body but that was all. Bit inconvenient I know but if those could get through I'm sure a bit of fluff would get all the way through.

If something accidentally falls in, such as a coin or a button off clothes you need to be able to pull the filter out.

I need one this week, got a few vouchers stacked on a Miele and also Cashback.

Also if you are thinking of buying a Bosch or Siemens, go on their parts site and put the model number in and you can see if it has a sealed drum or not, something to avoid.

Not sure how necessary the filter is as I have never had to clean mine. Probably because we don't wash fluffy cloths anymore, mostly man made.

That's a good idea, from now on, any washing machine I'm thinking of buying, I'm going to Google the manual first. Nice one mate...
RustySpoons
6 Dec 151#60
Yeah I was going to get one till I noticed that, then read the manual, some older Zanussi you can remove a drum paddle and the filter is accessible through there. Not on this model.
Really not sure what to go for, getting tempted by a Miele.

When it's on its normal cycle it seems weird looking as it spinning, because you feel it should be making noise when it makes none!
On its fast spin it does make noise, but nowhere near what I'd call loud. Doesn't seem to vibrate at all (I think because it's such a heavy machine).

6 Dec 151#57
Notice there is no external access for the drain filter?, the manual states to call out an Engineer!

6 Dec 151#58
That's that then, thanks, no way I'm getting this now. My Candy is 12 years old, so I do need to get a new one before it dies. Reckon better to wait until January sales now. Thanks for your comment about no access to the drain filter, kills this machine stone dead for me. Not voting hot or cold as for some people it's a good machine...:sunglasses:

Our house had zanussi appliances (hob, fridge, washing machine, dishwasher) when we bought it, and whilst they're a bit low rent and bloody ugly, physically, they do a pretty good job. We've since replaced most of them with Miele and whilst the quality is much better and they have loads more functions, the end result is still more or less the same.
So I guess if you're looking for value, then you can't really go wrong.

Zanussi washing machines are great. My parents have had their for 10 years and I have had mine for 4 with no problems. All from John Lewis. Their fridge freezers on the other hand are rubbish. John Lewis excellent as always.

Do you have walls made of polystyrene? The noise won't travel through a wall.
If your washing machine is noisy you either have an unbalanced load or the machine is not set correctly on surface. Align the feet by unscrewing the locking nuts and make sure they touch the ground. Problem solved!

Ok going to take a chance posting this as i have seen the hatred directed towards people for posting anything that is not the exact same price or make or size compared to the advertised product, but maybe it will help someone out there.
I have one of these in the 8kg size and have had it for the last 12 years, 3 kids and many many washes later and it still sounds as quiet as the day i purchased it. Touch wood we have not had any problems and are really happy with it, i don't know if this is the best price but it is the best i could find and is worth every penny just for the quietness and reliability compared to some of the other big name brands.
The direct drive units have no belt and as belts stretch with time are more economical, I had a indesit previously and when the belt started slipping during a wash it blew something and would have cost a lot to fix so i purchased this when i saw it, i paid over £300 for mine 12 years ago but believe it is one of the best purchases i have made and would spend the extra to get peace of mind when i to replace it

I agree with you, in over 20 years I have had 3, the first I gave away to a fiend as I was moving to Spain and after over 8 years of use. She left it to her sons, she had used it everyday for over 3 years. My 2nd is still in use in my rental property and has had a new bearing fitted 3 years ago and my 3rd is going strong after more than 4 years. So I would strongly recommend Zanussi the appliance of science.

I've had my Zan for 8 yrs too, and still working as the day I bought it. However, I've had 3 kids since then and I could do with a bigger model as mine only takes 7kg. But yes, very reliable (touch wood)

Out of practice regarding washing machines but ours started making a grinding noise tonight when you spin the drum by hand as if a button has come off something and is trapped somewhere.
