This game alone can be overwhelming depending on how much you want to do. If you want to do every mission and find every thing there is to find in the game while taking your time to take it all in, it's more than 200 hours. Story with some side missions as you go takes around 80 hours.

The game doesn't provide information in a clear-cut way. There's a lot of items to find, places to visit and monsters to defeat which can be difficult since the game will hardly ever pinpoint the exact locations. So you'll need to remember things and write things down before you forget since you can't do everything as you go. Sometimes you'll have to leave something interesting for later just so you can get other things done.

There are guides now that tell you where everything is but in my opinion, that detracts from the experience of finding things yourself. Exploration and experimentation is the main aspect of this game. Though if you're stuck for too long on something, it's probably best to just use the guides.

Having said that, games like this only get released every 5 or so years. So if you think you'll enjoy it, I suggest you ignore all your other games and just play this from start to finish. I took 2 weeks off work to dedicate time to this and I'm still far from done. There's just so much to take in that you can feel lost when you're back in real life

If you are going to moan about tiny text size I will point it out as its true, no idea about xbone never played one and never even seen one running but ps4 games have tiny text, as for tiny text size being a common complaint well thats a new one on me, you going on about it here is the first I have heard and I have no issue with the text.

Besides if the only thing you can find to complain about is text size I say the devs have done a stellar job at making a awesome game.

With people defending companies blindly and saying there is literally nothing wrong it just goes to prove that what they're doing is perfectly fine and shouldn't change. This is wrong.

You all know why Microsoft changed their views on Xbox One because if it wasn't for the power of the customers' backlash it would have been as they envisioned it.

Why bring up PS4 games?! No one mentioned PS4 games!

Can Nintendo fanboys for once not bring up PS4 or Xbox into the discussion? Jaysus, it's like their defence to "oh but what about Sony???".

Regarding the small font size, that is a real issue about the game and you can't really deny with so many people complaining about it on the internet. Surprisingly it's gotten even more backlash than the issue that is the audio mix on the game which they also screwed it up.
This. Great comment, Shin-chan.
No. If you were to get it then it should be the American edition because that one's far superior but the game's NTSC-US region so you can't play it on your PAL Wii U.

So then, just stick to the standard copy.

I don't know whos complaining, I have never heard anyone moan about the text but then you can always find people moaning and demanding patchs for everything. When it first came out there was a lot of moaning that lins affinity quest was broken and needed patching, it wasnt broken at all its just the game doesn't hold your hand, the quest requires a item and people couldn't find it that was all, sone things only appear in certain areas at certain times or during certain weather pattens and sone enemy drops only occur if you target and lop off certain limbs, a lot of people didn't realise it.

Of course you cant be bothered to reply properly, its because you have been shown up as clueless and you know it but you won't admit it so you duck out with your tail between your legs.

stop blaming devs for the actions of publishers, stop thinking you know it all when most titles only just break even, the shareholders rule the decision making most of the time, very few shareholders care for creativity and artistic integrity they care only for a good return on their investment as swiftly as possible, platinums quirky nature is whats keeping them going, just like Nintendo if they dumbed down to appeal to the masses of casuals they would die.

You know what? I can't deal. I couldn't make it to the end of your post. But yeah, in my experience bloodborne text is fine. Never had issues with others. Specsavers? Also people don't need to work in the "gaming industry" to be clued up. You're doing the same old passive aggressive condescending thing people like you do and it's revolting as a personality trait.

Thank you for your advice about not buying nintendo. I couldn't take you seriously nor finish that paragraph. However no thanks, I will buy what I want and think how I feel. Perhaps you should open up to other people's opinions. I don't care either ways. I mean what are you on about? "Integrity" "values" Christ, this is GAMING, it's meant to be fun. 22 Dec 15 #55
Oh and by the way if you think platinum did wrong by not releasing on steam you are mad, if you think they did wrong by not releasing a bayonetta 2 sooner to capitalise you are stark raving bonkers, capitalise on what? A failed game that didn't sell, sega wasn't going to fund another one, they never had high hopes for the first hence the tiny marketing budget, a sleeper hit was expected, a modest profit but that didn't happen, also why are you citing what you think platinum should have done its not up to the devs what happens the publishers call the shots.

My boyfriend has had a ps4 for over a year he has at least 20 titles upon it such as both wolfenstein games, fallout4, the order, bloodborn and so on, tiny text has been a constant complaint and he sits about 2 feet from his oled tv.

have you ever worked in the games industry? Tbh you know nothing of bayonetta as you were not involved in the dev, its well known what sells and tbh no one was ever under any illusion that those titles would, hence they didn't get that much support from marketing, having platinum was more an exercise in trying to salvage some prestige by having AAA titlex associated with the Sega brand as it had been dragged through the mud since becoming sega sammy holdings. And bayonetta wasn't on ps4 it was ps3.

Nintendo are a rare breed who dont want to run with the herd and base their release schedule on pie chart predictions of trends, very few are like them only other I can think of off the bat is valve, the day they follow the bus model everyone else does will be the day they die.

if you don't like Nintendo dont buy them, stick with your cod, fifa and final fantasy and dont demand others to dumb down to appeal to you, that is basically what you are telling them to do, sacrifice their integrity and honour and chun out dross for a few extra quids profit, you fundamentally fail to understand what Nintendo are about, they make devs jump through hoops they inspect offices of anyone they work with and have the strictest submission process, you cant buy your way into getting a broken game released on a Nintendo system. Long may they continue to be that way and more fools them who happily go out year after year paying more and more for broken games that need a day 1 patch to work and have content withheld for dlc.

If you want to moan about font size I guess the rose tinted glasses you wear when playing ps4 have a built in magnification feature. All ps4 games have tiny in game text you can hardly see.

what has bayonetta to do with anything, the ps3 and 360 one bombed because people have no taste, you should be greatful Nintendo stepped in and offered funding for a second, platinum games did nothing but lose money for sega as gamers have no taste, yep insult sega for making crap games but then when they put some cash behind something good like mad world, bayonetta, vanquish and all star racing no one buys em and they make more cash from mario and sonic at the Olympics.

xenoblade is a brilliant game full of freedom, true imagination and sweeping soundtracks, its a must for any fans of anime seeing as the mech design was done by the same guy who did gundam 00 and the music by the guy who did attack on titan. Its also the kind of game that is becoming very rare, very few companies now days would allow a studio the time and freedom to come up something like that, everyone is just you got 12 months then its out the door no matter what state its in. Kudos to Nintendo for giving monolith the freedom to create and seeing how great platinum games are, they also created the best shooter for years in splatoon, who'd have thought after all these years anything could bring something fresh to the FPS genre.

kudos to Nintendo and there focus on creativity and innovation without them and the indie devs gaming would be far more stale then it already is

Firstly thank you freeman above. Merry Christmas to you too brother.

Secondly, what games are these where the font is so small you cannot read it? I own almost all releases for the ps4 and xbox one. I have hardly ever had any issues with any titles. Do you speak from experience? it hardly seems it.

Platinum game are arguably the best developer in terms of gameplay and graphical technical prowess however they are also a mid-tier japanese company. As such they have been a bit out of touch with gamer trends. The firts bayonetta came out on the ps4 a long time priot to coming to the west. This was a new franchise and had they moved quickly with it they would have capitalised on it greatly. Especially if they released it onto the pc.

Bayonetta 2 was always a project that needed someone to fund it but it uses a great deal of content leftover form the first game. Since the first game did not sell incredibly well, MS and Sony (unlike nintendo) have other far larger franchises to buy rights to. For example COD games and Halo games and Uncharted games. Nintendo in fact tied platinum down as it would have been the ONLY third party thing they had going for themselves within the first year of the console's life. In fact platinum games still wants to put the game on the next gen consoles (and they have even hinted they would like to bring it to the pc as their move into the pc has been more profitable for them than any console release in their history). However nintendo is shut on the subject. Fair enough.

Platinum didnt make money out of big name hype franchises like vanquish were once again married by platinum's inability to move with the trends. When steam was on the rise they come out with a game on the ps3 and xbox one, where users are notorious for going with the familiar (often due to the price for games being very high but because theyre all dumb). Mad world was a failure because it was released to a console that was largely considered a family waggle platform. This was also sega's call. Who have made bad decisions their mascot more than the blue hedgehog. You put an ultra viuolent BLACK AND WHITE game on it, of course the target audience will skip it entirely. Also the game stank.

Whilst xenoblade chronicles x is a fantastic game and you arecorrect this is a piece of art. Sometimes I look at it and wonder how they pushed it out of a wii u, but I also cannot escape the natural question which is how the game would have fared MUCH better had it been on the ps4 or the xbox one, or once again on the pc. Yet the devs are tied down by nintendo's need to choke hold. They would have minted with this game on the pc.

Nintendo have a huge history of screwing third party developers for software, hardware AND even indie titles they choose to release on their joke of an online store. You just don't know about it because either you're biased to their favor or you just don't want to know about it as it will tarnish this company you hold so dear. Also, "creativity and innovation" is not always necessary. This is a gaming medium, let's not be so pretentious shall we? Sometimes "keep it simple stupid" is the best motto and sony and MS have finally cottoned onto that. There is no vision or innovation in bringing out a console which is the same architecture as your gamecube 13 years ago. There is no vision in coming out with a hideous pad/controller with pathetic battery. I have the wii u and I love it but I love it enough to speak what's wrong with it and not married by bias and delusion.

So the reasons to own PS4 are two games that aren't out yet and a bunch of others that are ports of PS3 games I've already played. None of those are valid reasons to own a PS4, I already have them on PS3. And Xbone has a port of the first Gears, again a game I've played, and ...another.... Halo game, and not one of the better ones according to reviews.

I do own a PS4 btw, which I got for Bloodborne, which is still the only killer exclusive of this generation. Everything else is either a port of a game I already played, or cross platform so it'd run/look better on my PC.

And while you're writing Ninetendo off, the 3DS has sold more units than PS4+Xbone combined. Yes the Wii U is dying but it does have a bunch of quality exclusives.

Thanks for the kind words regarding the article.

As for Apple and Nintendo's public image not living up to scrutiny... I don't really care too much about that. Especially when we have companies like McDonalds and EA who have been internationally lambasted in the past for offering employees a raw deal.

For me, if a company makes a product that solves a legitimate problem or offers something that I am interested in, then I'll support that company and buy its product. My next phone will be an Apple iPhone. My next tablet will be a Surface Pro 4. Both of which I'll hopefully buy next year during the Black Friday deals.

Edit: the way I look at it... if a company treats its employees right, then employee retention will be high and there won't be an attrition of talent. The company will then be able to give high quality products that will be seen as being market leaders in their field.

In other words... Karma!

Great article man. I have most apple products and apart from holding their value I am increasingly questioning their usefulness as for some reason apple seems to be on a crusade to garden wall their products from playing along with any external tech. The funny thing is both apple and nintendo have a loyal following based on an image of a wonderful company - when there are few companies in the world worst at treating employees, breaking contracts and leaving their partners in the lurch as these two.
prankster101
20 Dec 15 #28
Thanks for the advice. To be honest, I'm only iterating facts, as facts don't lie in the face of opinion - whether that be pro-Nintendo lobbying or otherwise.

As for Apple devices... I own an iPhone 4s as well as a Nexus 7. Even if my iPhone 4s is now 4 years old, it gives me less hassle than my 2 year old Nexus 7. In my opinion, and despite the technical advantage that Android devices may have over their Apple counterparts, IOS beats Android hands down as a OS when it comes to providing system-wide app stability. So yeah... Apple products may cost a small fortune, but they're more reliable and (because Apple products retain their value) offer better value for money in the longterm.

As for those Nintendo-lobbyist "baiting tactics"... I wrote an article about Nintendo's "BIG" announcement prior to the company's Minecraft reveal. You can read it here: http://prankster101.com/news/nintendo-big-announcement-on-monday/

I don't own Bloodborne. But The Last of Us (definitive version) is really good. So is stuff like Uncharted Collection. Journey. The Last Guardian is coming out next year (allegedly). And Gravity Rush 1 and 2 should both be amazing.

XBone has some really great stuff for it too. I may not be into MS's first party stuff as much, but you can't deny that the company's products don't resonate with gamers. Because if that weren't the case, then the XBone wouldn't have sold more units than the Wii U.

At the end of the day, we can all have our opinions, but facts don't lie. The Wii U is the worst selling "current gen" console on the market, and by some considerable distance. As to what implications this has for Nintendo's brand image and mindshare when it comes to gamers will always be something that will be hotly discussed via message boards. But what can't be refuted (based on sales statistical evidence) is that Nintendo are far less relevant than they were a decade ago.

Hi mate, well to be honest I'm not hugely adept at complicated games, this one though I found really intriguing to learn. It does have some complicated systems, the digital manual you get with it explains everything in enough depth though, and I find it fun to wrap my head around.

The feeling of exploration and being placed on an alien planet is pretty much unmatched for me. I am a huge fan of Phantasy Star games as well, and this has that sci fi aesthetic down to a tee. I would say pick it up mate, at the very least Nintendo games hold their price well, you wont lose much and you may just find one of the best gaming experiences for years if it grabs you like it has me.
