Cheapest price I've seen for these, good idea if you work away, my favourite feature is the two way audio so you can speak to young children or wind up the dog by saying "walkies" into your phone.

I recently picked-up a Xiaomi Band and realised just how crazy you have to be to use this stuff - the degree of privacy invasion that the Mi Fit app commits is off-the-chart, the idea of putting a camera into my home with similar priviledges is mind-boggling.
For the curious, the Mi Band's app can do pretty much anything it wants. The permissions you have to grant include reading ANY file on your device, taking pictures, creating/switching your network/bluetooth connections, calling ANY number (yes, including premium rate ones) and reading your entire contact list (all your friend's names/numbers) - it even asks for the obsolete 'logs' permission (which was removed because some apps leak sensitive data into the logs - why is a fitness app asking to read that??)
ANYTHING you buy which relies on their software/apps you need to ask yourself if you're happy to share your private data with these people, because they're hoovering-it-up like it's free candy!!

Helpful existing thread for people new to this camera... essential the same camera as the Google Nest.
Can enable RSTP, FTP, SSH etc without using the Chinese app. Also please be aware that out of the box using their app your data is stored on Chinese servers.
Bought one of these from aliexpress during the summer and found it a pleasure to use, as you said great for the dog.

Bought one of this recently and connect it to my Xiaomei router 2 for storage. Works great and the app UI is nice too. Not bad for this price.

Don't worry too much, a Chinese syndicate will be along soon enough to kidnap them for ransom
On a more serious note, could this be set to record when motion is detected? I'm thinking garage security camera recording to my HP microserver over my LAN...

Needs WiFi - users have reported that even if an SD card is not inserted your recordings are still available from the servers located in China.

Yes, however it is limited unless using the Xiaomi app (see previous comment).
I have 3 of these saving data to a Synology NAS and not externally to Xiaomi cloud services.

Have to admit that the picture quality shown in the 19 minute Russian video is impressive regardless of price!
I'm just scared it might be unsafe to leave it running unattended, you hear so many times of the fire risk of "bargain" items at Christmas time.
Very tempted to get one but if I do, there will be a bucket of water close by for a good while!
Shame the shine is taken off by concerns regarding security, I suspect y0rkiebar will be in great demand!
On the plus side, it seems there is a thriving community of "tech competent" users who may be able to help those cleverer than I, to overcome any problems!
I'm afraid the technicalities just confuse the hell outta me!

These have been confirmed to send your data to a Chinese server, where it's stored for future access. There is a way to block it, but you then lose a lot of the functionality. Only reason I've not got one...

Agreed, except for the last point you just use an alternative product such as TinyCam or Survalliance Station (Synology or Xpenology).
Requires some technical knowledge but most here know what it is and can do - just need to lose the Chinese mothership config.
@dwl99, check in the files you downloaded there is an FTP copy script where you just change the settings and away it goes... saving to UNC/Samba share is in the works I believe.

It is micro-usb powered, it does come with a cheap chinese non-fused usb to 3-pin adapter but throw that away.
You can power these cameras off of any USB port.. laptop.. router etc all works.

Please be aware that gearbest is a Chinese company and they ship from China. It's not a good company to deal with. I have really bad experience with them. I bought Xiaomi Mi Band last month and still waiting for it. When I contacted customer support they said it gonna take 10-45 days to deliver it. I m still not sure if they still shipped it or not as they couldn't gave me any shipping details. Please don't promote this website as i believe they are scammers.

Previously had very good experience with them, but now that that things have gone wrong, they have gone wrong in a big way.
Also tried Banggood for the USB lights that were on here and they are currently a no-show, but I was prepared to lose £1.50 but not the £175 with Gearbest so I certainly won't be using them again for anything expensive that is not in the UK.

Well I've used Gearbest a lot and received every item I've ordered. Starting ordering things from Banggood too and also haven't had any problems. I don't really understand how they're making money as I'm ordering really cheap items, sometimes things that cost just a few pennies. I don't recall ordering anything that has cost more than £25. Most of the items I've ordered have cost less than £5.

Not much point when the thieves have it away on their toes with the microserver as well. You would ideally need to have motion-detected imagery set to save somewhere off-site via an uninterruptible data connection...

lol! and me a fire systems engineer!!
Actually, I have extinguished fires involving live three phase electrical equipment, and even stood in the pool of water it created.
Electricity is after all a "lazy ****" and will find the easiest path to earth.
Anyway, I don't think that 5 volts at 1 amp would present much of a risk to life!
I would however endorse your view and perhaps suggest an ABC class Powder extinguisher be substituted for the bucket of water!
...or good old fashioned "Sand",

Nooo, not ABC, it corrodes everything it settles on, and boy does the powder fill a room and get everywhere! Water should be fine (fine spray would be better), after all what's the first thing the brigade do?.....................open the hoses and let rip.
