Yep, because everyone knows that the manufacturing cost of the final product, is the ONLY Cost, right? These products design themselves, the prototypes assemble themselves, test themselves. the software is created out of thin air with no cost, and the finished products Teleport themselves from China to the end customer.

I have had the Apple Watch since it was released and use it nearly everyday, and it's nice. I take calls on it when am driving, I switch tracks when my phone isn't on me I use it to pay for things with Apple Pay (cool full stop) you can read messages when they are sent to you without taking your phone out, you can silence a call by just putting your hand over the watch.
It's very nice
If you have the money get this because it's a good deal!
So that's £120+ for the strap alone, the worlds gone barmy. Nice strap though.

My wrist is 7"/177mm (dunno where I got the 18mm maybe its cm not labeled on tape roll) someone said I should get the 38mm watch and use the longer strap provided in the box as its more or less around 40mm just 2mm under the 42 model but the one I want is out of stock (Apple Watch Sport with 38mm Space Grey Aluminium Case & Sport Band, Black) don't fancy paying the £289 but at £249 and I'm game!

38mm would suit smaller wrists better.
wife preferred the 38mm to the 42mm as 42mm looks too big. i'm not sure if there are other differences (perhaps better battery life for 42mm?)
in the watch box, there was a spare strap provided.

I bought one from Apple shop, full price, I returned it for a refund after seeing this deal, Apple said that although it was a big price difference they would have matched the price, when I mentioned the 2 year guarantee they told me that this was consumer law and everyone everywhere gets this?!? Anyway, I had already placed an order with John Lewis so went ahead with refund, thank you OP, £50 saved

I'm sure you can just return it for a full refund if unopened so with that in mind make it clear to the retailer you will do that and then repurchase it at the discounted price or just to make things easier not wasting time for both parties just refund you the difference now to save on the leg work.

I found with a land line the telephone cable was too long and too much hassle when I went out, so I bought a mobile. Then I found it was too much hassle getting my phone out to answer calls and messages, so I bought a smart watch. Then I found it was too much hassle to turn my wrist and glance at it, so I bought some Smart contact lenses. Then I realised it was too much hassle looking thought my contact lenses, so I asked for a Smart chip to be inserted into my brain so I could perceive messages instantly. Then I realised it was too much hassle to think.....

We have contacted Apple to see if they will offer a price match retrospectively and have only offered a £30 refund.

So are you saying that it being the worst ever watch without any evidence is a reasonable opinion? In that case, can I start spouting forth some racist/sexist abuse just because it's my opinion?
The Chinese are selling phones at much nearer the cost of manufacture than the Koreans and Japanese but big names are still making profits, Nokia was THE name mobile phones, they simply didn't offer what people wanted which is why folk stopped buying their phones, had they gone to Android I doubt Samsung would have had a chance to get anywhere near as big as they did. Samsung are struggling currently simply because they completely dropped the ball with the S5 and the S6 came to market with a rediculous price tag not to mention alienating customers by removing SD card support and a non removable battery.
Paradroid888
20 Dec 15#430
If you think Android would have saved Nokia you don't know much about Android. It's a good OS sure, but is anyone making money selling Android phones? Not really. Samsung were doing ok but they are now struggling because iPhones have competitive screen sizes again, and Chinese Android phones are on sale with the same specs at half the price. Which is always going to happen when the OS is open source.
You're right that going Microsoft did Nokia no favours though.

Autobiography of what? Nokia management made several bad decisions and ended up backing the wrong horse. N95 and N96 were far more advanced than equivalent iPhone models when they launched at the same time and the N95 sold by the absolute ship load. What killed Nokia was not going with Android, certainly not the iPhone.

I was looking for a smartwatch a couple of weeks ago and as an iPhone user was going to go for the Watch Sport from Apple (£330). After doing more research online I felt the biggest downside of the Apple Watch for me would be the fact that I would be stuck with the 10 or so watch faces that the watch comes with. They won't allow developers to design new watch faces, I'm sure over time this will change.
I looked into the Android Smart Watches and narrowed it down to the Huawei Watch. It's perfectly round (unlike the Moto 360) and has very good build quality and looks like a normal watch. Android have now relased an App for IOS that allows you to use their Android Wear powered watches with Apple devices.
I bought the Huawei Watch from Very (got 20% off) and linked it to my Kindle Fire 7. Using WatchMaker from the PlayStore you can get 1000's of free watch faces. Battery life is great too.. getting 2 days usage.
Sorry if this is off-topic, I was just replying to the above posters question.

The Apple Watch doesn't have an LCD display, it uses an OLED display; due to this the power requirements for the different sized screens of the two models is next to negligible.
Most people with a 42mm watch report the battery lasting between 15 to 20% longer compared to the 38mm model - considering the 42mm has an 18% higher battery capacity, that sounds pretty much exactly what I'd expect.
MadonnaProject
19 Dec 15#392
It isn't too much, the LCD uses less power depending on use and size, however anyone who believes battery usage can be "optimised" through software has been sitting on an apple too long. Its akin to skimping on using your lights and cutting down usage. Only the software does it for you. Which is still not ideal in my opinion.

With my 42mm and Watch OS 2.1, I wear it roughly 14 hours a day and have ended up with between 60-70% of the battery at the end of each day. 38mm will have less left over as it has a smaller battery capacity (205 mAh instead of 250 mAh).
That's pretty obvious considering the iPhone is a product with an established life cycle.
A yearly refresh of the Apple Watch doesn't make anywhere near as much sense as the iPhone though, there's only so much they can improve on the hardware side of things and it's no where near as widely used a product as the iPhone. I'm not saying a yearly release cycle definitely won't happen, just that it doesn't make as much sense for this product as it currently stands.

Let's face it me honest new shiny gadgets make us happy, it is what consumerism is all about. My sisters got me a pebble for Christmas and I'm really happy about it because I'm certain it will make me happy, obviously it won't. But if you work your butt off for wages why not buy, you certainly give a few weeks of fun. The question is are the Buddhists lying to us about happiness coming from within, being content with what we have, orders that only apply to a certain type of person, I don't know. We could take this £200 and use instead to buy gifts for our friends are in need or other good causes. I know it's easy to theorise and doing that would probably make us happier than having this watch. Notice how I'm making this pronouncement in the knowledge that I'm getting a smart watch, yes I know I should be a politician.

Maybe it's just me but I really really really do not see the point of a 'smart' watch. Even at £50 I would struggle to justify buying one, in fact I would pay anybody £50 if they could convince me why I need one.

Still very expensive for what it is... and the low battery life and lack of waterproof make these things pointless for me, though I love the concept. But regarding the 'deal', I could release a smartwatch of my own at £1000, then immediately discount it to £300 - just because it's a 70% discount doesn't make it a good deal. It still needs to justify the price and I don't think it does that

Due to abuse they changed it - now you can return an unopened product for up to 90 days, it's no longer unlimited like it used to be a few years back.
It's rumoured to be updated in 4 to 6 months time. I'd call that anything but 'just about' especially considering it's just a rumour without a shred of real evidence.
The iPad Pro was rumoured to come out for years before it actually did.

16% off for an older product just to be superseded by a new generation, is actually not that big a discount.
Do you like apple, don't you like apple - I'm not going to get involved in all of that....all I'll add is as an Apple Watch owner of about the last 3 weeks or so (yes I bought at full price from Apple Meadowhall) I absolutely love mine! I don't at all feel compelled to use it for looking at apps RATHER than on my phone, but that's there if I need it...I love the fact it can pick up my texts, calls and some notifications (the ones I choose) without me having to get my phone out while at work...I pay it the occasional glance as you probably would with any other watch, and in that sense it's completely unobtrusive....
I'm very very with the battery life on mine to be fair - I stick my phone on charge nightly anyway, so to put the watch on next to it is no great shakes...and to be honest after a full days use, it's never below around 70% by bed time...
This is an excellent deal, albeit I'd imaging that finding a store with any left as a result is gonna be tricky!!
Oh, I work in a fairly 'hands on' job at times, and therefore bought a spigen tough case for mine which makes it look more like a G-Shock or similar now, but retains all the functionality! Brilliant!

With regards to the usefulness of such devices, I have a Gear S and 5 minutes ago I took a call that required me to use both hands and my phone was in the next room. Had a reply within about 35 minutes confirming they were processing the £50 refund and it'd be back on my card within 5 working days.
Might be worth trying that first before going the return/re-purchase route. Return should be no problem though if you have to as you have up to 90 days to return something unopened to John Lewis.

The apple watch really isn't a very popular apple product. 16% discount isn't great either yet this deal is voted the 3rd hottest on the whole site this month and rising. Not the first time mediocre deals for apple products have been voted red hot and the reality is idiot apple fans are voting it hot trying to convince themselves and each other that apple products really are worth their horrendous prices.

I'm surprised Apple haven't gone after the swiss watch manufacturers for infringing copyright after they invented the watch:-)
colonel to Jimbo123
18 Dec 15#300
Probably because the Swiss watch industry set itself up and copied all its designs from the British watch industry between the 18th and 19th century.
After the decline of watchmaking in Britain, where all the mechanical innovations were made, the remaining watch makers packed up and also went to Switzerland.
Some British companies, such as Rolex moved very late, only in 1919 Rolex moved from London to Geneva.
Invented here, cultivated abroad, the genius of Britain

I use the apps on the watch, love the push "if" app for turning off my tv, sound bar and sky box when I go to bed at night. Also use this app for switching on and off my wemo. The push notifications are great especially to see and remind me what jobs I've got up next during the day, seeing calls coming in and easily rejecting them if I'm busy with something else. Liking new things a lot I love the fact I can keep changing my clock face when I get bored with the last one. The Amazon app is great for notifications on shipment of parcels as is the parcel app. Strava is great for the exercise mad in us and as for fantasy football I can quickly see how many points I have for last week with the app

It's a great price and a hot deal but having had one then sold it, I can confirm they are largely pointless.
As a thing it's really nice, well built, works well etc, but functionally it's just so much easier to pick up your phone as practicability comes in and the Apple Watch is just a cool novelty item. Everything experience wise is quicker, better and faster on your phone.
I ended up just using mine to tell the time only and my £5 casio did that really well.
Hope this helps someone

Should I get a smartwatch? - I can see why some might think they're a gimmick but honestly I use/ check mine more than my phone, it now makes me question if in a few years with the release of next generations if I'll actually need a phone! So if you can afford it a resounding yes.
Should I by an Apple Watch? - well if you've decided you'd like a smartwatch and you have an iPhone, the answer can only be yes you have no choice, and chances are you wont have in the future. If you have any other phone from any other manufacturer you cant.
Thats why I have Android and a Sony Smartwatch 3

Get used to it, people who paid way too much for apple tat try to convince themselves that they haven't by telling themselves and each other how great apple tat is. Voting deals for apple tat here 1000's of degrees higher than they should be is just another expression of this delusion.
Unless I missed something, have a quick look at the specs of the Sony Ericsson P800, which I remember rushing excitedly to pick up on launch day back in 2002. After that I bought the P900, P990, and P1.. which is when I think the iPhone came out. Then wasn't it another year or so before they allowed you to use bluetooth? In 2002 you could also copy MP3s onto the device or memory stick directly so you could play them. Do Apple let you do that now or do you still need a laptop and special software ?
No doubt this is a good deal if this is what you want. Merry Xmas, whichever OS floats your boat.

At the moment it's rumoured the next Apple Event might be in March and they might announce a second generation Apple Watch during said rumoured event. Even if the event happens and they do, there are some guesses the soonest it'll be available is April, yet others are citing a June release date.
So even if those rumours happen to be true, it sounds like the minimum you'll be waiting for a new version is between 4-6 months.
As this isn't a product with an established refresh cycle like the iPhone, for all we know the next update to the watch could still actually be a year or more away.
I've lost count of the amount of tech products I've owned that have given up the ghost just outside of a 1 year guarantee period.
I've yet to have it happen with an Apple product, but there's a first time for everything.
If you pass up on a free 1 year guarantee extension period assuming the watch is available at both stores for the same price... well I'm sorry, but that's just plain stupid.

Don't understand why everyone loves John Lewis SO much, yeah 2 years is good but if you even have a slight problem they'll send it off and you'll be without one for a couple weeks, buy it from Apple and they'll fix it in store while you wait. Okay £50 less right now is good, but people go crazy over John Lewis

If you buy it from John Lewis, Apple will still fix it in an Apple store within the first year of purchase. Then, you will have the peace of mind of another year of warranty with John Lewis after that.

iPad Air wasn't refreshed because they introduced the iPad Pro so wanted to build marketing hype for that. There is only one iteration of the watch and so it's very likely they'll be an update this spring , mainly because there are so many issues that need fixing with the first and sales have been lacklustre

True. Given that Apple seem to have extended the lifecycle of the iPad Air 2 to just over 12 months (and counting), there isn't really any guarantee that every one of their products will refresh yearly. iPhones, sure. Everything else? Hmm...

I have the lavender strap and rose gold one, I love watches but never can be bothered to wear them but I feel lost if I take this off, keeps me up to date with my emails, texts, messages etc, I reply using dictation. Have become more active to beat the activity app goals. I like as I have a 6 plus so don't need it to hand so much. Charge lasts a day easily with a lot of use, 2 days if light use. This is a great deal if you're looking for one

17 Dec 151#232
Exactly. I really don't get why people want a camera on a smart watch...
It'll have to use a small sensor, potentially be obstructed if you're wearing it and the preview of the shot you're trying to take will be on a tiny screen... so chances are you'll not have a good idea if the shot you're trying to take is anywhere near decent or not. Plus it's just another component to drain the battery.
I work in IT and find it super useful to have notifications from apps, text messages, alarms, reminders etc. come straight through to your wrist, you can screen things for importance without having to pick up your your phone, set a reminder to deal with it later, etc.
Personally, I also really like the health features. It reminds me to stay active & encourages me to hit my fitness goals each day (and yes, that really works for me).
Not to mention Apple Pay; I rarely ever have to take my wallet out now - simply double tap a button on my wrist, put it near the contactless enabled card reader and I'm done.

The pros and cons comments that people are making are irrelevant to people who want/don't want a smart watch, in that they never really mirror what you the purchaser/non-purchaser see's as good or bad. when the Samsung Gear S was released I bought one on pre-order because I could afford to and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about, since owning I am more than pleased with the watch as it makes life a lot easier even though I basically only use the alerts to texts, phone calls which can be attended to straight away or later and the phone can be answered from the wrist. No longer any missed or dropped calls due to not getting my phone out in time etc. etc. Oh and it tells me the time BRILLIANT.
The only problem is my collection of high end watches never see the light of day anymore, still my son will probably appreciate them from my will.

I wear mine for on average, 14-15 hours a day and tend to be left with between around 65-75% of the battery left in the evening depending on what I've done with it that day.
FYI: The watch has a 'power reserve' mode and if the battery gets too low it will switch to this. The only thing you can do in this mode is check the time, but you can use it in this mode for up to 72 hours. So if all you really wanted to do was check the time when away from a charger for more than a day, you'd certainly be able to.

I think next generation is due approx Q2 2016. I'm keen to get an Apple Watch having had Android wear and now moved to iOS but the battery life of the first generation product has really put me off. For most people, I would recommend you wait to see how the next generation turns out as I would expect some fairly large steps forward in performance. Voted hot though because it's a solid price for the product.

Ive had mine now for 4 months or so and love it. In my view it doesn't really provide anything my phone can't already do but it's a nice gadget. I love using my watch for message updates, Apple Pay, cinema tickets and airline tickets. I think the watch has a lot of untapped potential, but there is a way to go before it becomes a must have item like your smart phone. If you are tied into IOS, can spare the money and like the idea of a smart watch then it's probably worth buying. If you don't like it after 4 months sell it on eBay and get 2/3rds of your money back.
I believe there is a new version of the watch being released early next year.

'Apple Watch Sport' has Ion-X glass face, and an 7000 series aluminium body (the same materials used for the screen and body of the iPhone 6s). The 'Apple Watch' has a sapphire crystal face and a stainless steel body.
Sapphire is more brittle, so more likely to shatter on impact, but considerably less likely to scratch.
Ion-X glass is more likely to get scratched, but less likely to shatter if hit against something.
Stainless steel is easy to scratch, but can just be re-polished if it is - aluminium can not be repolished.
Personally, I went for an Apple Watch Sport, my boss went for an Apple Watch.
His is pretty scratched up after a few weeks of use (the stainless steel). Mine still looks as good as the day I got it.
To state the obvious, your mileage may vary. Personally, I purchased mine as an exercise aid and definitely feel I made the right decision.

Had a Apple Watch, sold it. They're useful, but its extremely annoying to have to rely on Siri to reply to a message. Siri needs internet access, which can break due to poor reception, and even with good internet access Siri often misunderstands what you're saying. No. It's technology in the watch that makes it more accurate than the iPhone. Apple says it's within 50ms of the Global Time Servers the US military keep for GPS. They haven't been very forthcoming exactly how it works but it probably has far more accurate timing hardware which means that it doesn't drift as much between synchronisation signals as the iPhone. Not bad I reckon.

Battery life isn't an issue. I usually have 70-80% left at the end of the day. I love Apple Pay which is a good enough reason to have one as far as I'm concerned. I use it for Starbucks and Subway too. It's useful for Siri too. I use it a lot to set an alarm to remind me to do stuff during the day. Not having to take your phone out of your pocket for notifications is great too particularly when you're out and about. Plus, of course, it's an incredibly accurate watch as well and the fitness aspect is good and can only get better.
I got an Apple Watch Sport because the stainless steel models were way too much for a first gen product. I'm definitely going to be up for the stainless steel 3rd or 4th gen model when it comes out.
If you're invested in iOS it's great. Go for it.

You definitely can buy leather bands for the Apple Watch Sport. If you want official Apple ones, there's the "Classic Buckle" available for 38 & 42mm. "Leather Loop" for 42mm, "Modern Buckle" for 38mm.
Alternatively, buy a 24mm standard leather watch strap for a 42mm watch or 20mm standard leather strap for a 38mm watch and buy some connectors/adapters/lugs. Personally, I've purchased a couple of sets of these ones for £3.99 from eBay they're perfectly decent and arrived a day after dispatch.
Here's my collection of straps Note: The one to the left of the black sport band is a Hoco strap. Don't buy it, it's terrible:
Mate a £249 watch really isn't that much relatively to most high end watches. A couple thousand spent, even tens of thousand on a watch is quite normal. I mean some go for 100K and above. Given the normal edition Apple Watch has a curved sapphire glass screen and special alloyed steel, I believe the materials itself is worth the value given its durability.

What are you comparing them too to call the price bonkers? A Rolex Submariner strap w/ glidelock is around £1800. The Apple SS strap uses high quality 306L Steel, they are manually hand brushed and have a very nice custom butterfly clasp that is better than many other premium mechanical watch straps. I would call the price reasonable for a premium product.

With the drawback being that it's another one the size of a dustbin lid (next to an Apple watch) ....
The price Apple charge for some of the straps - I'm thinking mainly the metal ones - is pretty much insane. There is nothing that fancy about them to even come close to justifying the price they want for the them. The watch is expensive-ish. The straps though ..... bonkers.

Apple watches are incredibly ugly, which was a surprise given Apple have a history of putting form above function. The Tag Heuer connected watch (partnership between Tag Heuer, Google, Intel etc) shows what a smart watch could and probably should look like.

I have learned the hard way to avoid first gen apple products (after the initial ipod touch, iphone, ipad etc) and this product is sort of the same. They have a new one coming out in the first or second quarter of 2016, it will be wifi, have a camera and a faster more efficient processor with better battery. I didn't know you could not make facetime calls on this or even watch videos. Yeah I don't want to watch videos on such a tiny screen but still the ability would have been good.
Also this £50 reduction is not only at john lewis, it's at other stores also, which makes me think this smacks of stock pushing to make room for the next model.
Then again I got an ipad pro. At least that didn't seem like a first gen product but if they come with one that runs OSX next year I will be **** off.

Cold because it's not an iPhone....
In all seriousness, I'm on my fourth smartwatch (pebble, moto 360, sony sw3 and samsung gear s2) while we just got my wife an apple watch. I think the thing people struggle to justify is that owning one doesn't replace another gadget and it doesn't add any new functions. That doesn't mean it's necessarily useless. Apps aren't particularly useful but the basic features of being able to quickly preview incoming emails, messages and calls and know if they deserve your immediate attention is not an insignificant convenience.
About the battery life, as long as it lasts a day then it really doesn't matter. I didn't think my pebble which lasted a week was significantly more useful in that regard than my moto 360 which I charged every night. I'm taking the watch off anyway so the two seconds it takes to put it onto a dock doesn't make me boil with rage. Apple watch has a nightstand mode which means you can rid of any bedside clock you may still have.
Jimbo123
17 Dec 15#67
These are definitely gonna be a winner of the Christmas morning, smartwatches are definitely in, Santa is bringing me a pebble , Apple have done this smartwatch very well . I really believe that smartwatches need bespoke systems like apple with their crown and extra button . In my opinion android where is not ergonomic enough to use . A priority for simplicity is at odds with ease and quickness of use . Personally I think smartwatches need as many capacitive buttons or sliders as possible to aid speed of use in navigation

Great deal. Firstly it's a great looking watch that fits comfortably on the wrist, unlike the massive round ones. I purchased mine mainly for notifications which it does perfectly. Also, for those worrying about the battery life. I put mine on at around 8:30am and take off around midnight, to charge, when it has around 50% charge remaining. It's the one thing that did put me off initially but then I realised that I never wear my watch to bed anyway so it's not a big deal resting it on the charging unit, ready for the morning.

17 Dec 15#50
Yes, but having used it with an LG Urbane (W150) I can tell you it's utter crap. It's not Google's fault, it's a combination of the way Apple runs apps on the phone (not true multitasking) and the fact most of their handsets have a pathetic 1GB of RAM. As soon as the Android Wear app in the background runs out of memory (due to foreground apps being loaded more recently) your watch disconnects and you have to reload/reopen the app on the phone, and being a moderately heavy-memory app, it will disconnect a few times in a day - and you find out when it's too late normally. All of which leads you back to the Apple Watch, which is the only watch that works properly (in the loosest sense of the word) with the iPhone.

Decent watch at a decent price, I've had mine a few months now and paid £319 from the Apple Store - Smartwatches are far from essential, but they are useful, comparing it to my android wear watch (LG Urbane) I'd say the Apple Watch is more "stable" as in it never loses connection or hangs, they are mainly a notifications service on your wrist though as many have said the native apps are not great, I use my Android wear for work when I leave my phone in the office so I don't miss calls/texts from clients

Yeah possibly, I have had three Android smartwatches now and all have been returned / sold within a few weeks. The battery life for me was the killer, to have something else to charge everyday was just a pain in the proverbial - whilst I appreciate everyone is different in their needs etc. for me they just don't cut it yet. Being sad... I am desperate for them to appease me, I love gadgets BUT it has to offer some sort of benefit to me as opposed to just being for show.

I'd agree - I only use a smartwatch for the notifications and things at a glance (like stock prices and weather on the default clock face). The apps are truly the worst thing ever on the Apple Watch - and I cannot believe they haven't been slammed for it more in reviews; I don't know a single person who uses the apps on the watch over their actual phone because they take an eternity to load.

Plus do I go for Space Grey Aluminium Case & Sport Band Black or Apple Watch Sport with 42mm Silver Aluminium Case & Sport Band, White? I've white/slate iPhone but feel the watch band will get dirty and not be white for long..
wife preferred the 38mm to the 42mm as 42mm looks too big. i'm not sure if there are other differences (perhaps better battery life for 42mm?)

About as cool as wearing one of those calculator Casio watches back in the 80's. I won't be trading in my Omega Seamaster Professional anytime soon!
We have contacted Apple to see if they will offer a price match retrospectively and have only offered a £30 refund.
Would you accept this (bearing in mind the Space Grey 38mm has now sold out at Currys and John Lewis) or would you send it back to Apple and try and source one elsewhere or even opt for 42mm?
I wanted the aluminium with the black strap, so they gave me a black strap free to go with the watch...
I just think the Potter / Sugar team could have come up with the 'iphone' first.
The Psion 'iphone' just wasn't meant to be.
Shame because the series 3 / series 5 in some ways is _still better_than an iphone, software wise(calendar/database/contacts).
As was discussed at the time, perhaps things would have been different.

But, aye.
I love everything Apple but not weighed in for the watch, especially gen1. I can see me wearing it on the other wrist alongside my normal watch to use as a phone extension only, which would probably make me took like a ****...
The one thing I love about an apple deal is the haters who come out the wood work to moan like kids
I wear it in the shower every day.
I can answer and make calls on it if my phone is nearby (anywhere in house or office).
Every time I lift my wrist, a different one of my selected photo displays on the face.
I can receive and send emails, texts, whatsapp.
Recommended.
If it did I would go out and buy one now.

Really great price this plus 2nd year gaurantee & extra 14 days (30) no quibble return. If anyone has any question re: best straps for under £15.00 and stands and strap cases/rolls etc please feel free to ask
(42mm sports grey, iphone 6)
Most people with a 42mm watch report the battery lasting between 15 to 20% longer compared to the 38mm model - considering the 42mm has an 18% higher battery capacity, that sounds pretty much exactly what I'd expect.
I'm not saying a yearly release cycle definitely won't happen, just that it doesn't make as much sense for this product as it currently stands.
personally i'd prefer to buy a slightly used one with much bigger discounts (saved over £100 on the basic 42mm model about 4 months ago)
for me the best features are remote iPod control, notifications and apple pay

I'm very very with the battery life on mine to be fair - I stick my phone on charge nightly anyway, so to put the watch on next to it is no great shakes...and to be honest after a full days use, it's never below around 70% by bed time...
This is an excellent deal, albeit I'd imaging that finding a store with any left as a result is gonna be tricky!!
Oh, I work in a fairly 'hands on' job at times, and therefore bought a spigen tough case for mine which makes it look more like a G-Shock or similar now, but retains all the functionality! Brilliant!
I bought it for the Mrs as a Christmas gift so its unopened.
Had a reply within about 35 minutes confirming they were processing the £50 refund and it'd be back on my card within 5 working days.
Might be worth trying that first before going the return/re-purchase route. Return should be no problem though if you have to as you have up to 90 days to return something unopened to John Lewis.
If you don't like Apple products and have no interest in this then why keep banging on about it here? Simple, pure jealousy that others can buy one without worrying about the cost while you scrimp on cheap Chinese knock offs from fleabay.
So no it isn't a question of different things appeal to different people it is a question of apple fans hijacking the site to soothe their egos.
I mailed them yesterday and they told me they wouldn't refund the difference.
Same with those that flubit it, you loose the extra 1 year's guarantee.
It's posts like this that put me off posting deals!
Why can't people accept that different things appeal to different people?
If everyone wanted the same things life would be boring.
Or perhaps some of the posters would be better off living in a communist country so the goverment can decide how you live? And everyone would have the same?
Wheather you want an Apple Watch or not this is a good deal, which I thought was the point of this site?
After the decline of watchmaking in Britain, where all the mechanical innovations were made, the remaining watch makers packed up and also went to Switzerland.
Some British companies, such as Rolex moved very late, only in 1919 Rolex moved from London to Geneva.
Invented here, cultivated abroad, the genius of Britain
As a thing it's really nice, well built, works well etc, but functionally it's just so much easier to pick up your phone as practicability comes in and the Apple Watch is just a cool novelty item. Everything experience wise is quicker, better and faster on your phone.
I ended up just using mine to tell the time only and my £5 casio did that really well.
Hope this helps someone
Should I by an Apple Watch? - well if you've decided you'd like a smartwatch and you have an iPhone, the answer can only be yes you have no choice, and chances are you wont have in the future. If you have any other phone from any other manufacturer you cant.
Thats why I have Android and a Sony Smartwatch 3
Your welcome lol
Not having to get phone to see a text.News flash.Playing your favorite tracks from you wrist, and another cool idea watching on your watch what your phone is looking at anywhere in range of Bluetooth.Finding your phone with or without flashing light, which I have used a few time, like when I left phone in car when parked on my drive.Great for Apple Pay.Keeping step found and how many calories your burning off, with a daily and weekly count.Checking Heart rate is fun.I just bought a stainless steel strap with fits great for £21.00 in stead of £349.00.Plus there is more you will learn when you set up the watch for your preference,s.Happy Christmas is you get one.
Is that what you meant, from 2007?
Have workout and sleep monitoring permanently on but that's just the start. Having texts and emails to your writ means you don't have to pick up the phone much except for web browsing or composing emails

If you think they steal everything, you just have a bad memory. Not everything is original of course, but find the original iPhone launch video on YouTube and give that a watch. A 90 minute wave of groundbreaking features...
Technology stole from IBM. Google it.
Apple don't invent anything, they take others ideas (or purchase the company/patent), dumb them down, add aerospace aluminium, make a fancy advert then triple the price.
Consumerism at its finest. Hats off to them.

not sure if to buy, or wait for 2nd generation which i guess is 6 months away min, but then what will 2nd gen do thats better?? Also when 2nd gen is out...will this will reduced in price
oh decisions decisions...
42mm has a 250 mAh capacity, opposed to the 38mm's 205 mAh capacity - so that's 18% more capacity for the 42mm.

£50 off and an extra year's guarantee free of charge is easily worth the 2000 heat it's got, especially considering how rarely Apple products are discounted.
Not for me, going to wait until they can add in a camera into the front - think that's when it's going to become more user-friendly if that ever comes.
You don't get a jar of caviar and a prostitute with it?
You'll sooner catch me spending £250 on a quality watch over something which will be outdated in a years time.
For information, I received my watch via courier on Tuesday. The number to contact is 0800 0480408. Hope this proves useful for someone.
No one interested in this deal gives a flying f**k mate
The only problem is my collection of high end watches never see the light of day anymore, still my son will probably appreciate them from my will.
I believe there is a new version of the watch being released early next year.
PS Apple fans get VERY touchy when their addiction is called into question don't they!
I'd say nice troll, but I'd actually give it 0/10 for effort.
Ordered the sport. With TCB its £274 and if not to my liking then sell on ebay for a minor loss.
I do still get the occasional "oh is that an apple watch? That's cool. How do you like it?" when I pay for stuff etc. using it though.
I think they're the future, but I wouldn't recommend Gen 1.
Got the Mrs one off currys and got my one off here. Thanks OP. Heat.
A semi premium watch firm who also use 316L and hand finish the product? http://www.christopherward.co.uk/watch-straps/strap-type/bracelets.html
:stuck_out_tongue:
You should be voting on the deal, this represents a decent saving on the Apple watch which makes it a good buy if you are after one.
Anyone one up for flamedeer trading?
I got an Apple Watch Sport because the stainless steel models were way too much for a first gen product. I'm definitely going to be up for the stainless steel 3rd or 4th gen model when it comes out.
If you're invested in iOS it's great. Go for it.
Does it come with the claps/clips you can add third party straps on?
Any one bought any of the claps/clips from ebay?
Alternatively, buy a 24mm standard leather watch strap for a 42mm watch or 20mm standard leather strap for a 38mm watch and buy some connectors/adapters/lugs. Personally, I've purchased a couple of sets of these ones for £3.99 from eBay they're perfectly decent and arrived a day after dispatch.
Here's my collection of straps Note: The one to the left of the black sport band is a Hoco strap. Don't buy it, it's terrible:
Battery life is great but look in all honesty it is a luxury not a necessity, have some heat! Baa
There is a £10 off a £150 spend or something for those with a O2 priority code as well, right?
The price Apple charge for some of the straps - I'm thinking mainly the metal ones - is pretty much insane. There is nothing that fancy about them to even come close to justifying the price they want for the them. The watch is expensive-ish. The straps though ..... bonkers.
As a side note you can get some nice 3rd party straps for a fraction of the price Apple charge
Was happy with the watch before, I'm even more happy with it now :stuck_out_tongue:
Apple pay is handy, especially if you're prone to forgetting your wallet like me  Also like that it tells you the transaction amount so you can verify.
Don't see the advantage of the watch personally :/
What, no Brikk Lux Watch in stock?
Watches I've seen with useful inbuilt GPS (ie that can hold a GPS signal in shady locations) are all very large.
Also this £50 reduction is not only at john lewis, it's at other stores also, which makes me think this smacks of stock pushing to make room for the next model.
Then again I got an ipad pro. At least that didn't seem like a first gen product but if they come with one that runs OSX next year I will be **** off.
btw, good price for this watch though.
The horror
The horror
The horror
:disappointed:
Because they want it to look good in marketing campaigns and first looks in the store.
It's tragic. It's okay to love Apple and their designs, but know when they're taking the ****.
That's the level they're at now.
It just becomes routine along with charging the phone and the tablet.

Have some heat.
Then you'll have something worth spending your cash on.
At the moment you're being mugged. I've been an 'Apple guy' for over 30 years and I know a cynical product from Apple when I see one.
