Sports direct have come in for a whole load of bad press of late. Apparent poor Working conditions of its employees. Reports of zero hour contracted staff being searched down to there underwear before they leave. Which by the way they have to endure in there own time. Along with points awarded against you for going the loo for too long.
Sports direct have some great pricing and a massive range of sporting goods. I know we are all looking for a bargain these days, but should we be spending our hard earned in a shop who's billionaire owner apparently treats its staff so badly?

They aren't exactly working in a sweat shop and it's their choice to be working there, zero hour contract are a common thing and you can thank the government for that not the retailers. Little like pay day loans that ruin people's lives, all approved by the government if it wasn't, it wouldn't exist.

This should go without saying, but just because something is permitted by the Government doesn't mean it's right for organisations to exploit staff or customers. And to mention that it's not the existence of zero hours contracts that's the issue but the way in which some of the more unscrupulous organisations use them to manipulate and degrade their workforce.

I take it you've not been unemployed recently, often you do not get a choice about the jobs available to take? When I was made redundant from a senior software architect job, the first thing the DWP employees wanted me to do, was take any old shop assistant job, if Sports Direct had any vacancies they'd certainly have been trying to get me to take the job. Considering I only signed on to make sure my NI stamps were covered, imagine how insistent they would have been if I'd been getting job seekers allowance or anything else on top.
Sports Direct are knowingly a very bad company, run by a complete ****, I'd rather buy stuff from a tax avoiding Amazon, than give my hard earned cash to that business.

It's easy to say that if you're not in their position. what if they need the money? no one else will hire them? they are desperate? forced into this position due to dependents? let's not lose our ability to empathise, that's what makes us human.

I agree re boycotting Sports Direct. Their shares have just dived 11% on news of poor results and the media scandal of the way they treat their workers. It's good to see business organisations like the Institute of Directors criticising them - they called Sports Direct a "scar on British business".

I am not disagreeing with you about the company, but I am simply saying look at the bigger picture. People are happy to protest and drop negatives on companies but not so much on the people that are letting it happen and approving it.
I was actually looking for a job about a year ago and yeah you might have to start off in the worst job with a terrible contract but once you have experience many other retailers will employ you. Luckily for me I started in HMV, one of the best and biggest HMVs in the country as well, near London. Retail in the starting point for many people and that's just the way things are right now. I'm going on to complete a degree and join London Met.

I feel sorry for the people that want to work and have to be on JSA. I applied for that when I finished education and it was so terrible that I actually cancelled my application and applied for jobs every single day until I got one after about a week.
