I have always found o2 great for this sort of thing. When I have run out of data mid month in the past I just ring them and its always cheaper to add more data via my tariff rather than the crazy one off prices.

I just went on to 02 chat and harish told me this is not true but he will raise it with his superiors!!!

I said that I've been on Pay Monthly for 18 months and have unlimited calls and texts and 1GB data. Said I hardly use the calls and text allowance but always use the data and asked if there was any way to trade some of my call/text allowance for more data and he said that I could keep my call/text allowance and have 2GB data allowance. I made sure to clarify that this meant no extra cost and no change to my existing contract just a data increase from 1GB to 2GB and he said yes. He even said he'd activate my new data allowance from midnight tonight. Was very helpful.

After confirming the security questions he said the free doubling of data was not available on my account, only for the people who aren't getting enough data for what they pay for. ie data has since increased and they are on old rate. It was worth checking!

Just done live chat. Got the Note 4 deal posted last year with 1gb for £28 for myself and the wife. Have been given 4gb on each handset from midnight at no extra cost. Have some heat!

It worked for me as well, only on one of my contracts with them. It was on my note 4 contract £28 a month unlimited mins text and 1GB of data now 4GB data thanks to the op. Just got upgraded via chat from 1gig to 4gig a month. Only took 5 mins. (monthly contract o2 refresh) they confirmed my contract stays the same too. Very happy with this thanks OP heat added.

Sadly didn't work for me for free, however the chat agent offered to up my data from 1GB to 3GB for an extra £3.50 a month... I didnt go for it, but may try again later and see if they offer the same/different.

Right, so I am on a Pay Monthly plan (£28 a month + £30 for the phone), went to the o2's live chat, told the guy some of my colleagues have had this deal, he checked, came back and he said there are two news, a bad one and a good one; the bad one he said, there's no such deal and apparently this is a rumour (this is what he said) and the good one, he'd be able to increase my data allowance from 5Gb a month to 8Gb.

I downgraded my existing contract a couple of months back as I was taking out another separate contract in my name but it was for my daughter's phone and I was trying to keep the total monthly costs down so I opted for only 500GB of data for my phone. That's not really great though so I was hoping this would apply to me. #sad.

It's the same for anyone, I had 1Gb and asked about getting more data and they gave me 4gb instead.

Just call up not expecting to get upgraded but inquiring about getting more data rather than demanding it, then you're more likely to get a generous upgrade for free. Remember be nice as they DON'T have to give it to you, wait for them to offer.

This would be great if it were usable & fast. I live in the Bath/Bristol area and it was a nightmare, switched to EE and it was like an angel fell from heaven - unreal speeds.

I think it's pretty clear that o2 are all over the place on this one.

I can see the main problem is that people are going straight in expecting to get it, be a bit tactful then maybe you will get what you want.

I spoke to 2 different people today and each time wasn't offered the extra data for no extra charge, I did need extra data so got 2g extra for £3.50 pm and £5 credited to my account to cover the extra cost for this month, better than nothing I suppose.
I was also told that they was 2 offers on at the moment 1 for iPad/tablet 50% off upgrades and those that was on older tariffs where the price has changed since, I only got my phone in April so didn't qualify

Worked for me! Took out a contract about 20 days ago from mobiles.co.uk. iPhone6s for £31 month. 2GB data. Wife has the contract, I have the phone.

I just spoke with them in chat and they said I can have 5GB for no extra cost. At first they said not, but then I said I read it on an Internet forum and you accepted some people and not others. She went to check and came back with this offer.

I've just got off chat with them, tried getting a little free boost from 3gb to 5gb... Won't budge. Basically been told it's new seasonal offer to new contracts this month(explained I only started mine 3 weeks ago). One crucial factor was my contract was done via third party ie CPW. They won't budge if it's not directly bought from O2 :disappointed:

Phew okay, just spent 1½ hours on chat with O2.They would not have it at first and I went through 3 different chat departments. Finally they agreed to data upgrades for all 3 of my accounts from 1Gb to 5Gb for being a "special loyal customer" and they created a special one off free upgrade for me. result, cheers OP.

Not budging here, they said it is only for ipads and tablet owners, those who are ugprading to it or purchasing new contract for a tablet.

People need to realise not to just say give me free data now :confused: They aren't just going to give it for free! At least make it sound like you need more data, not just wanting it for the sake of it.

they want you to extend your contract another 24 month. No thanks I have got 3gb right now paying £31. I will NEVER pay £31 for 6GB sim card only deal NO CHANCE.

Tried twice, guy offered me a 10gb tariff on 39...not a deal.

They wouldn't give me free data as my account is only a few months old, even though I have been with them since 2006, but they cant see old accounts :/ "With special manager approval" (lol) They eventually offered 1GB to 3GB for an extra 1 quid a month (£29 was £28), can't complain about that! 2GB for a pound!
It does seem to be a lottery though, buttering them up and thanking them etc will help your chances btw.

Confirmed went up from 1gb to 4gb for free!

After 33 minutes on the chat with ImranS he offered me an extra 1GB data for an extra £2 per month! I kindly declined! :confused:

o2 refusing to upgrade my 2gb to anything unless I pay off my last year of contract (£300) with note 4. Already pay like £43 a month, been with them since 2003. Quite surprised, I was polite. I already have a £100 MiFi router and seperate EE sim. Oh well, it's nothing I would of awed over on Facebook about, but would of been a nice gesture.

Just got told it's not available for me because I'm not a new customer or upgrading - ahhhh mayn

30 mins in, got offered a free 1gb for this month (which ends next week) but they weren't for budging, then the chat disappears. im close to giving up

In the end she credited me £5, I said thank you but kind of explained that overall the data would of cost them less. Strange!

Just doubled from 2gb- 4gb. Said it was just for upgrading and new customers. Complained and said I'll remember this when it comes to upgrading and been with them 7 years and he suddenly had good news for me!!

Didn't work for me! Was told the same thing, for upgrades and new customers only. Tried really hard but only got £5 credit on my account instead as I have been a "loyal" customer

Wouldn't even check my account just said it's not an offer that is currently going on. Tried abit harder and they just started to copy and paste upgrade deals that I can't get till may.

Finally flirted my way to double data and £10 credit. Took me 30mins of seductiveness. Still not sure how entirely.

Didn't work for me, I think it was because I'm on 3 mobile but will try again later to be sure.

Thank you o.p. Via live chat , i asked them how much it would cost me to upgrade from 1gb month to 2gb per month (6 mth left on a 2 yr contract) . They offered upgrade to 4gb at no extra cost , no change in contract dates. i come close to using 1gb each month, so no worries now. Thank you to the original poster.

Finally had some luck, I'm paying £26 for 5gb and I've been given 20gb for £29, so not too bad.

Completely ICE COLD, have just spent an hour on live chat with O2 and I'm not eligible unless I take out a new contract. Don't waste your time, I agree with the previous comment as the customer service are shipped out and not part of O2. Load of rubbish

My friend was offered the same and put on doubt data after he enquired before he decides to stay or leave o2. I asked him to call customer services and double check he wasn't entered into a new 12/24 months contract as I had my suspicions. o2 customer services confirmed he had been put into a new 12 months sim only contract (and few weeks later received the dreaded confirmation letter). Lucky for him he complained and they removed his new deal. He now lives very happy on BT Sim only deal.

To hell with o2 and their antics.

Yep got refused earlier by Nazier who was helpful and gave me £5 for the inconvenience and I just tried again and got transferred to Shelly who did it straight away no fight at all .<3 4 months left on refresh with open 30% off discount in place 5 gb upgraded to 10gb.

Just got 1gb upgraded to 2gb a few mis ago. I'm more than happy as I very rarely reach my limit anyway

I managed to get one contract with them increased from 1gb to 4gb no hassle, I just asked. My second contract was a lot harder and I mean a lot harder. Spoke to over 8 different reps who all told me that there was no offers and the best they could do was to charge me £3 so I could increase my data from 3gb to 5gb on an iPhone 6s, taking my bill up to £34 from £31. I said no thanks kept logging off chat and logging back on with different reps, in the end I spoke to a guy who said there was no offers at all but then out of no where offered to add an extra 1gb of data free of charge to my iPhone 6s account. I decided to take him up on the offer because I didn't really need the increase in data I just wanted to see if u could get an increase for free. Keep going at them people they will give in, in the end, well as long as you're polite to them that is.

Basically said i had seen a lot of people had been upgraded free of charge and got transferred, As i said Shelly was straight to it and gave in (if only the wife was so easy) and all was well.

On third attempt got through to a guy called Ashish on live chat. Gave me the "let me see what I can do" line which made me think, yes, I'm in. But he came back shortly to advise that there was nothing he could do, as my tariff was below the £23 mark which entitles O2 customers to this offer of data allowance increase. I then used the "I've been a loyal customer was there anything he could do" line and he said he could give me an extra 1GB free for a month.

Better than nothing I suppose.

Just tried - got told it was for iPad customers only. Connected to another adviser who said it's not on my account so they can't apply it. Have we worked out any consistency with the eligibility criteria?

I managed to increase the allowance from 3gb to 5gb after trying a second time, she had to speak to a manager to get it authorised

Talked to Nitin who denied me an upgrade as an advisor. Am on the £31 per month unlimited talk and 3gb data plan on a recently taken out contract. Talked for a while but wouldn't budge. Said upgrade was for CX customers or something.

Gary @ online chat told me it's for customers with 1gb or more data plan. So no no for old contacts 750mb/month.

spoke to almost 15 advisors all said not available

Folks, Please check your tariffs and verify with o2. This double data thing is only for one month!!
It has been an interesting morning with o2 so called customer services. Yesterday I had an "extra 1GB added to my existing 2GB data at no extra cost or change to my tariff. The cost would have been £1 which he spoke to his manager about and discounted to free, All to take effect at midnight.
Come around 09:03am today and I get a text saying my tariff change is complete. Alarm bells ringing as I never asked for a tariff change and was assured on the chat that nothing will change.
Back on to O2 chat and the first 2 people could not confirm that I have been given 1GB extra data or give me definite answers that my tariff has not changed. I then decided to call and after much faffing about with the first person I spoke to who had no clue as to why the tariff had changed and no 1gb extra data showing, I then went on to Gill who told me after checking the chat trascript that "He mentioned giving you 1GB data for free but it is only for 1 month! Me: if you have the chat transcript then you should see it is not explicitly stated and you can also see my getting him to confirm that and that there will be no changes to my tariff. Gill: there is no way we are giving you an extra 1GB for free, it will be only for the next month. After much toing and froing I "politely" asked for my tariff to be reverted back to the old one and told her where they could shove the £1 discount they applied to get my new tariff to the cost of the old one.
I also informed her that I would consider billing them for the waste of my time with their blatant mis-selling and lying which i have in black and white on the chat transcript.
So, you guys should check and make sure that you got what you were promised b/c mine doesn't seem to be the case!!

Received my free upgrade from 10gb to 20gb today. Checked with them and they confirmed it's monthly until the end of my contract.

Didn't work for me.. I'm 5 months away from end of my contract and on a tariff that doesn't exist with o2 anymore (2gb tariff). Unusual some people get offered it and not others.
Maybe they're using a magic 8 ball to see if you qualify after asking?!

Just worked for me upgraded from 10GB data to 20GB for free due to be a loyal customer. Only been with o2 since November. The upgrade will be by midnight. £29 for 20GB is a good deal plus I get 30% refresh discount too making it £20.30.Excellent deal

Took out a new contract with mobiles.co.uk today & 02 say I have to contact them to double the data.

Found myself needing extra data so had a go myself. Rahul wouldnt double my 5GB for free BUT did give me 15GB extra data for £5 a month extra. As Im currently without any broadband this has helped me greatly as I had 900mb left got the next 3 weeks. Thanks OP

tried for this and got nowhere. On 24 month 3Gb / £31 iPhone 6S deal from here since last month, and they were having none of it, offered an extra 2Gb for £3 extra (which I didn't go for). Asked them to cap the data on the account and he (Arul) said it was already capped at 3Gb. Also, anyone else on the same contract (I'm sure there are a few as this was a hot deal in Nov), just so you know, it's not an O2 refresh account so the £465 its stating you can pay to refresh, does not apply. I was offered an exit from contract fee of £565 or thereabouts. Will stick with it for now and see how much data my son uses...

I think they've caught on. They were not having any of it and actually got a bit annoyed at me for even asking.

Just tried this and was told my Car Phone Warehouse contract with O2 was not eligible. Only contracts directly with O2 can do this

The livechat advisor i spoke to said there is no such deal so be careful (i am potentially a new customer)
I am not a customer but would have been if the double data offer was on - perhaps its for existing customers only? Or they have just stopped this?

Thanks OP...I got upgraded from 3gb to 4gb. Not quite double but can't complain about a free upgrade.

It took speaking to at least 10 advisors over two days to finally get double data after been told, not available on my account, only on iPad accounts, only for new customers in Dec, it's a online rumour which is untrue, can upgrade for £5 extra, manager not authorising, I've had them all. Final advisor initially said no free double data, quoted five pounds extra, went away after some chat & got authorisation to change tariff & add for £5 loyalty discount. So double data same cost. Wouldn't do it on my other account but discounted by £2 so paying £3 extra for other account & double Internet. Keep trying guys. Don't take no for an answer,

I had mine upgraded from 3GB to 5GB for free. My bill at the time was not charged extra. However, this months bill, they've added a charge for the extra data.

After querying it with them, they state the extra data added was for 1 month, not the entire length of the contract. Can someone please confirm?

My data was doubled from 10gb to 20gb for free and is for the duration of my contract as confirmed with them. My tariff is shown as O2 Refresh Unlimited 24M 20GB and the price and my bills have not increased. I can only assume that the same offer is no longer available.

Thanks op. Went on live chat and Ravinder added extra 500mb to my account free. I asked if it was for rest of contract and he said he could only do 1 thing at once on my account so it is a free bolt on for this month but will go on live chat tomorrow and he will extend for rest of contract. Bit weird but I have copy of live chat so hoping all will pan out tomorrow!
