False saving, as you will have to spend for map updates in future...

Exactly. That's what I was thinking

False saving, UNLESS, you wait for TomTom to make an offer on a one off payment for lifetime updates, (which is exactly what I did at the beginning of this year when my maps were getting a bit outdated). Heated.

Have one, great little device and as a bonus it looks far nicer than the TomToms too (slimmer, squarer case with better finish). Got it for a similar price in Halford's last promo on these.
My daily driver company car has a very expensive, built in satnav and it's not a patch on these Garmin/TomTom devices. Why don't the car manufacturers just license the good stuff?

Garmins are nice but from my own regular experience there is a glitch with some postcodes on Garmin mapping...when you input my postcode it takes you to a street with the same address in the next village.
I have to warn delivery companies not to use our postcode if they are using a Garmin satnav

Don't buy from Argos ebay store as I have bad experience with them..Ebay shop is not like normal Argos, they dont even know what they are selling.....better you buy brand new or walking rather than you buy it from them.

If you have an Android phone the Google Maps & the online navigation tool do a decent job & you can even use offline now saving data use.
Failing that there is also Navmii free on Android, an excellent free option....no charges, can be used offline but as it is also a community based app there are frequent updates of traffic jams, accidents & safety camera locations

Not just Android either, any smartphone. Android doesn't have the monopoly on mapping.

£7.65p - it was a deal that I initially noticed on HUKD though, I then visited the TomTom website to receive.
Oh by the way, it also included Western Europe as well as UK (as already installed on my TomTom).

Same here... The ridiculous cost and poor quality of the maps put me off TomTom.

True but much less likely to get you lost than Apple....additionally the apps are more often free on Android

Apparently Google Maps isn't available for iOS then.
Just so you know Navmii is free on iOS too.
Also, for all the slagging off Apple Maps gets it has improved so much since launch. The map data is from TomTom any way.
Also, I never actually mentioned iOS. Since I could've give a stuff what any one uses - I was more adding the information that ANY modern Smartphone platform is fine for Sat-Nav.

My car has a Garmin system built in.
Although the real question is, why do car manufacturers bother? Just include Android Auto/Apple CarPlay.
