​sometimes I really find it difficult to understand us Brits, on one hand we moan that we are not getting things as cheap from a British as from a German retailer but on the other hand we want our pound to stand taller. delivering quality, jobs and taxes to our own economy takes that extra from all of us so I hope some day we all buy into the idea of supporting our own supermarkets than those operating from cheaper lands (and I only mean that from the economic perspective)

You assume lidl pay farmers more? And the problem you get is as you scale a business you have to cut costs and pay less for goods. Yeah its all very well having lidl and aldi with 5% market share but if Tescos 29% market share was to drop 5% into lidl then you'd still have small stores but double the customers. The lidl and aldi model only works to a degree with this size of store hence next week and Xmas week you'll see forums filled with queues at tills, no trollies, out of popular Xmas items

£1.75 is a total pee take for potatoes anyway, that's £17.50 for a 25kg sack which they pay no more than £3 wholesale, even at the £3.90 they are making a similar profit to what the wholesalers make selling in to the catering trade etc
