Bought this TV yesterday from Costco as the price expires today. I don't think John Lewis will price match as you have to have a Costco membership so not available to the general public.
Very impressed with the TV's picture quality. I wont really use the apps as I have Sky apart from the Movies app which connects to my NAS drive where I store my digital content, but they are nice to have.

I've installed spotify on the shield, sadly though it's useless as it needs a mouse so I use emma for spotify instead

Same goes for ITV Hub, easy to install, i have but it's unusable you can move around the tabs and select channels but you can't select any programs as you need touchscreen or a mouse

Yep, exactly the same with Amazon Fire Stick, I have installed the 'settings apk' on it so I can enable other bluetooth devices such as my PS3 bluetooth keyboard I pair with it for conveniently navigating the menus in the likes of Kodi.

Again, for the third and final time, android TV is a GUI skin over a fully fledged android OS, same kernels, same software, same ability to install apps from the play store.
Again, for the third time from me, and from others, the only limitations are hardware based such as no touch screen, no GPS, lack of keyboards etc., etc., etc., etc..

You can live in complete ignorance if you so choose, but do not force stupidity on others who need genuine guidance from experts, not someone such as yourself incorrect professing heresy and a lack of actual knowledge as fact.

Most Android based 'TV boxes' will run most apps in some way, shape or form, some apps won't like it and some will misbehave. The problem is actual Android TV devices have been locked down quite heavily to ensure that everything than is available on the Play store App running on them works 100% with the device its on. No doubt in 12 months time the situation will be much better just like it was when Tablets were introduced running Android but at the moment Android TV is, shall we say 'interesting' in getting even popular apps to run on it.

Just read this thread but out of interest and judging by your last comment . Tv addons wont work on a TV running android so what version would you recommend? Thanks in advance mbuddy got the 1080p 805 the other day and tried putting tv addons on it and couldnt get it working so.... Any help appreciated.

Yeah OK smart ass! Try installing TV.addons build of Kodi onto a Android TV device, try running ITV Hub on one, have a go at sticking your banking App on it along with the Spotify App too while your at it!

And Android TV is based on but not running Android OS just the same, not as extreme or as cut back as Lollipop on Wear is but it is a different fork! You can claim to be all you want to be fella but I have the devices, I've been using the devices and I know what I can and can't do with them!

You do realise you're speaking to an android and iOS dev, right? Android wear has a seperate ecosystem. It is BASED ON, but NOT RUNNING lollipop. This is why you can not run wear apps on a lollipop tablet/phone, and why you can not run lollipop apps on the wear device.

Sorry fella but you know jack! Android Wear runs Android Lollipop, my GWR is on 5.1.1, My Shields are running 5.1. Try sideloading an App that isn't designed to run on them and you'll get a Parsing error every time. I'm not saying that you can't side load some you can, you can also install apps via Googles play store website that don't appear in the play store App on the devices but if the App and hardware don't match depencences then they won't even install never mind run - trust me I've messed around with Android devices for well over 5 years, I know that I'm on about!

This TV will have at least a 60Hz panel with backlight scanning to make it look like a 100/200Hz panel. You cant get native 50Hz LCD Panels in TV's, I've NEVER come across one anyway.

opinions welcome. I got the UE55JU6800 on the previous JL deal for the same price but after receiving the TV have notice clouding on 3 corners.

Same as...acquired this through Amazon lightning deal for £599...4k stuff is amazing, android works OK, HD picture is great, SD looks ok(ish)...I'd be happy to pay the £799 asking price if i hadn't got the lightning deal.

I have this TV and I dont seem to experience any bleeding at the edges and I have this mounted on the Wall, Picture quality looks stunning. I have amazon prime so have access to 4k Content which again is fantastic. Full HD content looks even better if you ask me. I have showbox, es eplorer installed and all works great. This is a bedroom TV mind you although its slow to respond to TV channel chnages but for the Sub £600 price paid, I believe its worth it, Wouldnt pay £799 for it though.

Again, your wrong. Android wear is a separate OS which has nothing to do with the Lollipop OS. Wear is compatible with android OS 4.3 (jelly bean) or newer. Wear has a separate app ecosystem.

Android TV isn't a separate operating system, it's merely a tv friendly skin over the underlying Android OS. Again, you can run any app on this tv from the included Google play store we all use in our android handsets and tablets.

Your Shields run on the android tv platform and does indeed have access to the full range of Android playstore apps, you just have to sideload them or you're stuck with the limited nvidia developed and approved apps. And yes, your shield is running on the underlying lollipop OS which nvida have crippled to lock you in to their ecosystem of apps.

I also have a shield, and when rooted you can install and run whatever app you like, the issue is most of the apps are designed for touch interface, so they are useless on nvidia shield tv, android TV is just a UI running on android os, google play store filters apps based on your device, once again when rooted you can show all playstore apps and download and install them, but as above they aren't designed for the shield tv so are a waste of time

I think the refresh rates you have put are a little confused, 60, 120 and 240hz dont correspond to what we have in the UK, they are for the US and other parts of the world. The TV's here would have native refresh rates of 50, 100 or 200hz.

But you are right about the inflated values that manufacturers quote as these are based on a combination of the native rate plus interpolation, often actually flashed black regions of the screen which help trick your brain into seeing a smoother picture...

No it doesn't! Android wear is also on version Lollipop too but that doesn't run Android apps either! Each build will only run apps designed and passed to work on each format, I have 2 Nvidia Shields that run on Android TV so trust me I know what will run and won't!

That's just marketing nonsense most TV's have either a 50Hz (low end), 60Hz (mid range) and 120Hz on the upper end, however most TV manufacturers uss Frame Interpolation techniques (soap opera effect) to increase the number of frames and claim those ridiculous 800/1200/1600 refresh rates.

Most TV's are 60Hz which is fine as you cant really expect more than than on 4K for now, however this model is actually 50Hz panel.

Don't know who wrote that blurb you've copy and pasted but these run Android TV OS not Android. They aren't the same thing.

Managed to get this for £599 during the Amazon Black Friday sale, and it's an alright TV but not too keen on the Android stuff on top of it, especially the idea of Google monitoring everything I watch but for the price I paid it's alright just wish it wasn't a 50Hz panel.
