Some proper "male hen" jockeys on this thread!
Pay for what you get in this life most of the time and with this product you're getting more than you're paying for!
Awesome groupset. Awesome price.

There's a contradiction here. You ask why the parts are so expensive, but then claim to know there is no reason for them to be. So, what was your point?

Holy macaroni. I paid £75 for a whole bike with 27 gears and free mud flaps.

Don't worry there will be 12 speed soon...
Or 1x12...

Worth noting that it doesn't come with new cables and outers - so at the very least you'll also want to order brake and gear inner cables.

Shifters: Ultegra 6800 11 Speed STI (Front & Rear) With Inner Cables
No need for new inners, and you can reuse outers if they're in good condition.

Not so well with flat bars unless you have trigger shifters, the brake levers are usually made for drop bars.
Some groups used to have an option for different levers and gear shifters but I don't see it here.
Q.Should I upgrade my CAAD10 20spd and sell the old 6700? I have compatible Mavic wheel sets.

I guess the parts wouldn't work in Hybrids?

Silly question this may sound. Do people buy these to replace the lower end group set on the lower end bike with this, or to replace their perhaps worn high end group set on the high end bike?

I've ordered it because I'm building a bike from scratch

Both and if you have a good frame with entry level parts.

I've got a mountain bike with reasonably high spec components (Scott Genius 10, along with a reciept from the original owner for over £4k five years ago). Sure the expensive shifters etc are nice, but I wouldn't say they improve my riding significantly. The light weight means I get less fitness benefit when riding with others.
Any time I've entered race, it's to compete not to win - I'm well aware that if I was in a position to win, there'd always be another class further up the ladder here I'd be the small fish again.
(I've also got a 2012 Defy 2 road bike, but quite happy with that for my needs, especially as I spend a chunk under half of the cost of these parts on the entire bike.)

No idea if not or not. But why are bikes parts so god damn expensive? There is no reason for them to be.

Is it that hard to understand? This is very high end equipment. Like with a lot of other consumer products that retailer sells products vary wildly in price quality and branding. Top spec manufacturer and top spec model is going to bring a high cost. Goes for most things you have in your household. White goods, electronics, furniture, whatever it may be there is always someone with the disposable income and mindset that considers it a worthwhile position regardless of what other people make of it

Kind of get you but it can be as cheap or as expensive as you want it to be. Like anything I guess. Most hobbies are expensive

Because it seems to be very easy to separate a cyclist from his money (in many cases). It's an addictive hobby - but I'm trying to resist!
Like all technical kit it's a law of diminishing returns - by the time you get to the top end you pay a lot more for a relatively small improvement. No doubt the profit margin for manufacturer/retailer is bigger too.

If you ride your bike to get from A to B probably not worth the money although they will be more durable than cheaper alternatives.
If you ride your bike as a hobby & for fitness you will notice the benefits in weight, precision and durability.
Great groupset & worth every penny - if however you don't want a high spec bike pop down to Argos & order one of their full bikes. There's no problem with that just horses for courses.

Depends on the bike, brand, frame materials and level spec of the components.
Cars are leap years in price and spec from F1 cars.
Some top end bikes are not too far from Tour bikes.
Depends what you need. You don't need a tour bike to ride to work but you can if you if want to.

Good price but limited to 172.5 crank length and a 50/34 crank which won't suit everyone.

They aren't.
I just bought two branded decent enough quality Shimano nine speed cassettes for £12 each delivered.
Of course, if you go for top spec brand new technology parts they've spent hundreds of man hours shaving every last possibly milligram off, they will be.
If you want a bike to get/stay fit, go from A to B or have some fun on, there's no need to spend silly amounts

These are very high quality parts which make a world of difference on any good road bike, quicker gear change, awsome brake power and a significant weight difference which makes a climbing long hills easier. absolute bargain to any road bike racer
