Square Enix app sale is running until 4th/5th January according to the Google Play game pages.
The mobile version of the SNES masterpiece Secret of Mana is 50% off and down to £2.99 on Google Play which seems quite reasonable.
Other Square RPGs discounted by 50%:
Chrono Trigger - £3.49
Final Fantasy - £2.49
Final Fantasy II - £2.49
Final Fantasy III - £5.49
Final Fantasy IV - £5.49
Final Fantasy IV After Years - £5.49
Final Fantasy V - £5.49
Final Fantasy VI - £5.49
Final Fantasy Tactics WotL - £4.99
Personally I'd absolutely recommended the original console versions where possible although some of these mobile versions aren't bad. If you're interested in a title be sure to check the Google Play reviews for your device model to ensure compatibility.
I've never played ff before, should I? and which one?

FF 3 or 5.
However, Chrono Trigger is the most superior game on that list. Multiple endings and a deep story.

I love secret of Mana but hate touch controls...:disappointed: wish it was on the EU WiiU VC so I could play it on my gamepad.

Most people consider VI to be the superior FF don't they? It tends to top the fan and critic lists more often than 3 or 5.
However I understand that the Android version isn't as good as it could be.

Really wanted to buy FF6, but touch screen controls just don't do it for me.

I believe these are also on sale on iOS, for anyone who swings that way!

You hero! I love this game, probably this and FF7 my favorite games of all time. I just use the Snes9x Emulator on my android to play these games. Finished Chrono Trigger a while back for the first time and it's definitely better than Secret Of Mana except I never played it back in the day so SOM is still my favourite. Just playing FF6 currently and it's amazing.
Chrono Trigger had the dream team making it,
A Final Fantasy Type of Story,
Secret Of Mana Battle Mechanics,
Akira Toriyama (Dragonball Z Artist) doing the artwork.
Give it a go

Thanks for the info mate, downloading the emulator now. What site would you recommend to grab the roms from. Google brings up loads, but not sure which ones are safe.
Cheers!

SoM is an action RPG, CT uses a battle menu so I don't think you can really say they had similar battle mechanics.
Both great games though.

If you have unused amazon coins you grab these games with them.

Yeah sorry I realised that after I posted that. Been playing too many of these recently. Have you played Seiken Densetsu 3? It's supposed to be SOM2.

I stick to emuparadise or cool rom. Be careful of the links on there because there are some spam ones.
You can pretty much find anything on there in seconds though when you figure it out.

Mystic Quest for Game Boy (or Final Fantasy Adventure as it's known in the US) = Seiken Densetsu and Secret of Mana = Seiken Densetsu 2 so yes Seiken Densetsu 3 is technically Secret of Mana 2.
Seiken Densetsu 3 is a spectacular game, there's also a very good English translation patch available so I'd really recommend trying it out.
