This may be of interest to Plusnet customers who are out of contract and wish to stay with them but negotiate a better fibre deal...
Spoke to Plusnet earlier today to discuss cost of our line rental /calls/fibre deal. Existing customers offers weren't great and required signing 18-24 month new contract. 24 months was too long for me...
However the agent was helpful and said they would match anyone elses offers - but not including cashbacks.
I have used Plusnet for a couple of years and wanted to stay so I had a quick look around and Talktalk were offering 76mbs download (80/20) fibre for £10 per month on an 18 month contract. The 38Mbs (40/10) fibre was £5 a month. Line rental was extra at £17.70 per month.... but half price at £8.85 for the 1st 12 months.
Went back to Plusnet retentions dept and they would match the fibre prices but not reduce line rental. So what I was told wasn't strictly true but still a reasonable saving for the fibre element.
So signing a new contract we could have 76Mbs fibre for £10 a month (normally £19.99) for a full 18 months new contract. Alternatively 38mbs fibre was available for £5 a month (normally £14.99) for the 18 months. Basically matching the Talktalk price...
I have put the link to the Talktalk broadband availability check which should give you prices to compare.
Just phone Plusnet retentions department on 0800 432 0200 Option 3 ...and follow the prompts.
The Talktalk price is lower over the Black Friday weekend but still seems to be cheaper than Plusnet so this still should useful ongoing. Talktalk 76Mbs fibre is listed as normally £15 a month reduced to £10 at the moment. Plusnet is £19.99 for the equivalent .
Hope it helps someone....

Cheers OP. I spoke to plusnet today (i've been on unlimited broadband only for like 5 years now) and they said they'd match the talk talk offer. I was also paying ~£19 a month or so to BT for line rental so I switched my line rental to plusnet (£16.99 a month) and they then said they'd do the unlimited 76mbps fibre for £4.81 a month (18 month contract). So I went from paying £19 + £12.50 a month for line rental and 20mbps broadband to paying £21 a month for line rental and getting upgraded to fibre optic 76mbps.
Was pretty good I thought. Not sure OPs deal included switching line rental to plusnet, but they seem to offer a better deal if you do switch to them.

I use weq4u app on my android phone to call them free from my mobile and it also queue for me so iam not on hold . Also they have call package half price call any UK number and mobile any time for additional 3.50 per month. Online it shows 7.50 but when I called using weq4u  free they told me over the phone but it wasn't on the net. So i did my order online with 90 quidco tracked then I called to add the call package they couldn't do it and told me to cancel the order with them and make a new order. Crap service and crap customer service, no matter what thier advert or "awards" state.
No connection after 11 oclock at night since wednesday though the router says it is connected, but nothing loads.
40 minute wait on phone to "support" and all the duffus would suggest is change router, yea right, I'm gonna waste £40 on a router to save their face.....there are no disconnections on the line therefor plusnet dont see any problems, suuuure.
Strange how it happens around 11pm at night then seems to magically fix itself ready for the day ahead, only to fail again at 11pm.
Whats that you say? [Try a new router ya dumpling, it might make it better!!]

I am currently with Plusnet and wish to renew, I currently have standard broadband. Will I notice much difference with fibre? just tested and my current speeds are 7211 download 915 upload. Sorry, the numbers mean little to me.
Click on one of the "Start your order" buttons fill in the details asked for and it will give you a predicted speed for your location.
The faster fibre package (Unlimited fibre extra in PlusNet terms) is 76 megabits (Mbs) per second down and 20 Mbs upwards.
The slower package (Unlimited fibre ) is 38 Mbs down and 2Mbs up for a new contract.
Your existing broadband speeds of 7211 download 915 upload are approx. 7Mbs down and 1Mbs up for rough comparison purposes.
However whether its worth it, it really depends on what you want to do with it?
It just opens up a world of possibilities you don't really have otherwise.

Just rang them and they confirmed the £10 a month for 18 months, cant do line rental as basically TalkTalk are taking a hit due to the issues they had earlier in the year with accounts and passwords etc. The TalkTalk deal ceases on Tuesday though apparently and PlusNet wont honour it after that point.

The reason I stayed with PlusNet is that they offered a static ip address for a one off payment of £5 that not many people offer. A couple of points
1) The speeds you get a dependent on the TIME / DATE of your contract the reduces speeds are a recent change
2) OOKLA, Speedtest etc are a bit of a con as most ISP host them locally and lift shaping and deep packet inspection on their SandVine kit. Virgin are the works for this. I'll never use them again. PN and BT seem to much more honest and reasonable.
Its odd my VM was really bad desipite having connections to 2 cabinets really close to my house. Realised that in my area they overprovision so Weekend / bank hols it all goes bad as they do no have enough backhaul. The crazy shaping and policies are not applied as described: No such problems with BT or PN (Openreach both VDSL Fibre to cabinet)
The new speed caps are for new contracts - it might be you contract started before the reduced upload.
The upload speed can effectively limit download speeds as the upload it needed for handshakes. Short version make sure you do not saturate you upload. Longer version: If you only have the 2 up you can set software to limit the upload to allow headroom for the protocol overheads like handshakes and you should see the downloads speed up.
On balance the new deals fron other ISP always seem to be better than staying on. I dropped PN (signed up with loads of cashback and offers but the price hike meant I could leave early. Switched to BT Inifinity (again Cashback, Sainsbury credit, etc) did not even have to change my hardware (PlusNet sent me a BT Fibre Modem that I connected to my ASUS Cable Router) just changed the Auth on the ASUS and all good on BT. Really happy with BT (BT Wifi works at work) but will ditch them and go back to PN or someone else in 10 months.

Personally I would not recommend Plusnet. If you have any problems be prepared to wait upwards of 30 minutes to speak to anyone. They are promoted as having amazing customer service, but I had a nightmare with them. They are polite and friendly, and the call is free, but the wait times are shocking and they don't get results.
When you join if you have any problems with BT Openreach, then prepare yourself for a terrible time as the communication between Plusnet and BT is a joke (and you as a customer are helpless and stuck in the middle)
You may also find they 'forget' to send out the free router (£5.99p+p) so keep an eye on this as it will cause problems if the BT Openreach engineer comes out to hook you up and you haven't yet received the router. You want to be sure the connection works before the engineer leaves as BT appointments are like gold dust. You may have to wait another 2 or 3 weeks before they can return. I speak from experience here
Your experience will be completely different if the connection/changeover is smooth and you don't need to contact customer service.

I've been on plusnet 76mb unlimited for 9.99 a month for some time now. I assumed it was a common retention offer
Opening post

Was pretty good I thought. Not sure OPs deal included switching line rental to plusnet, but they seem to offer a better deal if you do switch to them.
I have been a talk talk customer in the past and it was not a pleasant experience. Buyer beware !!
"All call charges to service numbers beginning with 084/087/09 and 118 will consist of 2 parts; an access charge and a service charge. Our access charge is 5p per min from TalkTalk landlines"
thats a bit of a worry since talktalks c/s number is 0870  , considering the only time i contacted plusnets c/s is today and it took 1hr to get through and they offer **** all to me , i cant see how talk talk is any worse.
the best they offered me was 10/pm for 6 months line rental same . no cash back
plusnet £42 p/m talktalk £15.81 after cashback for 18 months no brainer really .
He couldn't have sounded more uninterested if he'd tried.
I'm in a pickle now because I don't know what they'll offer and the BT deal ends today.
Just hope Talktalk turn out OK. Plusnet have been pretty much faultless, it's a shame to leave but it's a big saving.
38/20 is no longer sold. check your facts.
i quite fancy the 38mb unlimited for £5
You can only get fast 20Mb upload with the top 80Mb package.

be nice to have just one box
No connection after 11 oclock at night since wednesday though the router says it is connected, but nothing loads.
40 minute wait on phone to "support" and all the duffus would suggest is change router, yea right, I'm gonna waste £40 on a router to save their face.....there are no disconnections on the line therefor plusnet dont see any problems, suuuure.
Strange how it happens around 11pm at night then seems to magically fix itself ready for the day ahead, only to fail again at 11pm.
Whats that you say? [Try a new router ya dumpling, it might make it better!!]
No cigar, a simple DNS change to Googles DNS server lets you back online*............
[Thanks to another irate plusnet user for pointing this simple fix out.]
They try to charge £47 for it. Or force you to enter a new contract
Several ways of doing this but try the following link on the PlusNet website
https://www.plus.net/home-broadband/fibre/
Should point out that they actually offer you £4.81 per month for 18 months. When you add the line rental, you get the same price as TalkTalk over the 18 months.

Phone the PlusNet number when you've got an alternative price to quote to them.
Thought I'd got myself a good deal at £12.50 a month when I got them to price match that SSE deal a few months back.
