I wouldn't agree, if the Z1 is anything go by which has the same hardware and I think the same software. The Z1 CAN produce better photos but often produces worse too, with strange smeary artifacts on the pictures (probably most often it is about on a par). For my money the Moto G is more consistent at producing what you were expecting - Superior Auto just isn't superior! If you don't ind taking time with the manual settings and know what you are doing with them then yes it probably is better, but just not on Auto.

Not sure what you think it's superior to - if you are expecting it to be superior to the Moto G, I really think it just won't in the real world. I bought a Z1 to upgrade my 2nd gen Moto G and it really hasn't been a noticeable upgrade in any sense. The camera has produced *some* superior photos but equally has produced some worse ones, I think the G camera is more consistent actually (caveat: if you use on manual then it is probably possible to take better shots consistently, if you know how to use the settings properly, but Superior Auto is not superior at all. Some people report better results by changing the camera app, but not tried it). This has the same hardware and software I'm pretty sure, and given that even the new Z5 camera is not really doing what it ought to on paper, I'd be ready for some disappointment if I were you. The Z1 ought to have been an upgrade in screen quality and processing grunt too and again in the real world you really wouldn't notice the difference. Remember I'm talking about the last gen Moto G too, I expect the latest version would actually have beaten the Z1 on the camera if I'd had one. On the bright side, I'm looking forward to my X Play and selling my old Moto G and Z1...

Except that the iterations of the z series are only 6 months apart and the z3 uses exactly the same camera as the z1... So you don't think the track record of phones from the same stable with the same poor android skin and with in one case THE SAME CAMERA have any bearing in assessing this one?!!? The spec is an uplift for the cpu but if the hardware makes the most of android i'd be surprised as there is no reason to think that it has. Sony make poor phones that perform under their on paper specs on a regular basis but you somehow think this is different because? I could quote you any other number of sub par Sony models but apparently this is the magic one? Maybe but I won't be buying it. The only reason to get a z compact is because they are better than almost any other phone at their screen size and you want a small screen.

Reading what you have written I think you're confusing the Z1 with the Original Z. The Z1 was and still is decent, certainly much better than the current Moto G. The original Z though, not so much.
I'm not confusing it, I'm actually writing this on my z1. It really is no noticeable upgrade against the second gen moto g i had before. No noticeable update in speed despite the extra ghz except maybe in gaming which i don't do much of and the camera *can* produce better pictures than the moto g but but not consistently thanks to superior auto not being very good. In answer to the other post I'd put the blame on the superior auto software- if you don't believe me read online reviews of various z phones which are mixed at best and which all the z series use. It is less stable than the moto g, even on the latest update.

Z3C is the best phone I've ever had.
Amazing battery life, sensible sized screen, and good enough CPU and RAM that it really doesn't matter what the numbers are because it never lags.
You could buy an ugly Samsung that might be faster in a hypothetical scenario you'll never experience, or have a load of extra pixels your retina is incapable of detecting, but this is the best phone for practical use.
Edit: And it has an SD card slot so you can add an extra 128GB of storage.

This is worrying. Seems like this thread is throwing up lots of different answers.
Also, this link suggests that you must pay off your o2 Refresh contract if you want to end it. I took the £8.50 p/m Refresh deal, £204 over 24 months. That's £324 for a refurb when you can buy a new one for less.
Or are people suggesting you keep the handset and just cancel the whole Refresh part of it?

However they did advise that I cancel the direct debit , this annoyed me as the onus shouldn't be on me to stop them taking unnecessary payments.I had visions of them trying to charge 5p for used airtime , the bank refusing and me left with a permanent mark on my credit rating. In the end I decided not to bother and arranged a return instead.

iEimis
1 Dec 151#109
Yeah I can help you, I got the ALPHA as well.
All you want to do is to put a contract sim at least once and then go to their live chat and talk that you want to unlock the phone. (The code arrived to me in 2 hours, although they said it might take up to 7 days)
Once you have set-up the request for phone unlock, you can then call 202 from your contract number (alpha/contract sim). Choose the options where they say if you want to cancel your contract press 1 and bla bla. When you finally get to speak with a real person (seriously took me an hour listening their horrible playlists) tell them you want to payoff your device in full and then cancel the contract. Obviously they will tell you, what's the reason for the cancellation, just tell them you really like the device, but the airtime plan doesn't seem to be a good value for money. Then they will verify your security questions that you had to set-up when you ordered, and then they will ask you for the card details to pay-off £120. What they said to me, is that I don't have to cancel direct debit as it will be cancelled automatically, however I do recommend you to check it with your bank as in the past people have reported that even after cancellation the money is taken out every month. Good luck  (Oh and all people that i have spoke with, have confirmed that you can pay device in full and cancel the contract, no one of them have said you can't, so don't listen to rumours. Found their customer service brilliant, the live chat was the best one with instant answers to everything, whereas the phone one took a bit to get connected to a real agent).

Well done, does anyone have the same thing with Alpha as I do? The right lower corner of the phone (edge) seems to be a bit lifted out of the metal edges, it looks like the screen was replaced or something. When you use the menu, or back buttons in the dark you can see the light coming out from that corner, however everything seems to be fine with the phone, so I suspect it is refurbished in the way, that someone actually dropped the phone under the insurance and just returned it.

O2 GURU – PANKAJ: Sorry I missed out on 'No'.
O2 GURU – PANKAJ: It's perfectly fine, there is no issue with that.
O2 GURU – PANKAJ: On O2 Refresh, you can pay off the phone plan and cancel the contract.
EIMANTAS: So after I receive my device what would the process be then, just using this online form or phoning you up?
O2 GURU – PANKAJ: Once you receive the phone, call 202 free from your contract phone and pay off the phone plan.
O2 GURU – PANKAJ: They will cancel the contract straightaway.
EIMANTAS: Can you pay off the phone using live chat too or no, and also do you have to pay for the first month of air time?
O2 GURU – PANKAJ: Yes, you can live chat with us and we'll assist in canceling the contract.
O2 GURU – PANKAJ: You don't have to pay airtime if you cancel straight away.
EIMANTAS: Okay, thank you for your help and time
O2 GURU – PANKAJ: You're most welcome.
Ordered ALPHA, damn good specs for £120 if I will be able to cancel the contract (only concern is the battery, but it is still bigger than Iphone 6s, so yeah).
Ordered galaxy alpha, looks a bargain @ £120, daughters Xmas pressie sorted!
Heated :sunglasses:
Maybe YOU should read back what you wrote
So you're talking about the Z1 as if it's the same thing as the Z3C, which is plain wrong and hilarious to see you on about it.

e.g Apple refurbs are immaculate with new parts etc anyone would know who has had their iPhone swapped out at Apple store.
Are these Z3c the same? My guess is O2 have the recycle policy so maybe they sell that stock as refurb? Or maybe they are from Sony 14 day return stock tested and packed? Anyone had an O2 refurb before? Cheers
Some clarification would be good
It's a lot of money to get stuck into paying for a refurb if it does go tits up trying to cancel
Expanding this gives some more contracts that start at £120 upfront with £8.50 a month airtime charge , this is what I and a few others have selected but we're not sure if it is considered the same as a normal refresh deal?
Kinda gutted I missed this deal as my Z2 screen has recently cracked and this would have tied me over until my upgrade. Ah well.
Online request form does not work - connection error each time after clicking submit.

You should get the code through the email that you provided in a live chat. It can take up to 7 days.
