This is a Refresh deal by O2, meaning all their contracts are split into phone and airtime payments so what you're doing is taking out the contract and cancelling within your statutory 14 days. When you're cancelling you are telling them you want to keep the phone and in this case the phone payment part of the contract is £10 a month so times that by 24 months which is the initial contract equals £240 plus the upfront payment of £19.99 and voila you have a phone for £259.99. Pretty simple phone call all in all as they don't bounce you around retentions, have done it myself in the past.
O2 also unlock their pay monthly phones for free so make sure to unlock it within the 14 days before your cancel otherwise you'll have to pay extra to do so. You can use this form to unlock it, from personal experience it took just under 3 working days to do so at which point I called to cancel and getting a phone this way did not affect my credit score.
To clarify the 14 days part you need to do that to avoid being charged for a month of usage on top of the device plan but you are never actually locked into full 24 months as this is a Refresh contract. You can in theory use the contract for a few months and then cancel when you feel like you want to change the provider and to do that just pay off the device part (£10 x number of months you'd have left at that point) with no penalty.

Singlung2099 to LittleChimp
25 Dec 15#19
No you're not cancelling the contract. You're paying it off. The contract is for the length of time it would have taken for you to pay off the handset cost (loan agreement). That's why the refresh contract works out better because you can do it whenever during the contract.
With the airtime and phone cost split. It makes upgrading alot cheaper aswell.

I think you've misunderstood this whole refresh thing! You don't need to wait the full 24 months. All you do is once you've received delivery of the device, ring 202 off an O2 phone ring 03448090202 off another phone and say you'd like to pay off your Refresh Device plan. You've already paid £19.99 upfront which means you owe £240. They'll take a payment of £240 on a credit or debit card. You can then either cancel the Airtime (sim) or carry on using the sim if you need it at £21 a month for unlimited calls & texts and 3GB data on a 30 day rolling bases. This deal is available to BOTH NEW AND EXISTING customers.

Just to clarify YOU DO NOT NEED TO CANCEL within 14 days. It can be cancelled anytime. Dependant on when u cancel it, you would the airtime line rental for that period. The phone is being purchased on loan/credit agreement so can be paid anytime you like to pay the balance off.

Couldn't resist this deal any longer, so I've gone for it - picking up from store 30th December. I'll also keep my eyes peeled for any better Galaxy S6/Edge deals during the period leading up to that to give myself a chance to cancel this one. Might be some awesome deals upcoming post-Xmas!
Had my eyes on the LG G4 for a while, but I think I'll prefer this phone due to the smaller form factor (more comfortable one-handed use!) and the fingerprint scanner. Samsung pay is expected to hit UK in Q1 2016, and will work much like Apple Pay - which is a huge plus point for this phone over other Androids IMO.
Thanks for posting this OP, glad I held off on the refurb deal now. Only thing I'm slightly concerned about is whether 32GB will be enough, with no expandable storage option. But oh well, we don't live in a perfect world :stuck_out_tongue:

I'm still not 100% sure of the logistics of an O2 refresh deal (having never done it before), but please someone correct me if I'm off base with it.
1. Order phone & wait to receive it
2. Call customer services & request unlock code; wait until this is received and phone is unlocked (could take few days)
3. Call customer services & request to cancel device Airtime, paying off device plan in full (£259.99)
Or can you request the unlock code and cancel the Airtime in one go? And do you ever actually have to put the O2 sim into the phone during this process (e.g. for the unlock code)? Won't you then get charged for the period that the sim was active in your phone?
Common Sense
25 Dec 15#50
I had a chat with o2 and they insisted they charge £15 to unlock and it is not free.
I also want to know how to unlock without inserting sim. Do they give the code ovr the phone or via email?

OK I've ordered. Can always cancel if a better deal comes out. I've do e refresh before and did only pay the device cost. It was a bit of a faff but a good saving and I should get £100 for my old phone so in theory for £160 I'll have upgraded to an S6 which is a bargain. I pay £12 to giff gaff for my monthly usage which I'm very happy with. I use my phone at work and at home so it's well used for the money. Just hope the S6 is good I am a bit worried about lack of SD card.

Pay off the handset contract. You then own the device so they should unlock.it free of charge.
You do need to put the sim in and pay the percentage of the tariff until you cancel.
I've done this twice without any problems. The second time they did try to persuade me to stay.
As for impact on credit rating when doing this, I've noticed no impact. On all three services my rating has stayed close to the top after doing this both times.
I never get nusiance calls either as someone mentioned that as a potential issue. Do these companies only bother people with a poor credit history?

Wrecked my credit file.
Mostly my own fault.
I cancelled direct debit after paying off phone.
They sent me Bill for £400+.
I rang them and they credited my account with the £400+ to even it out but direct debit had already been cancelled.
No further letters, bills or emails sent and checked my credit file a year later because I kept getting refused credit and there is a big red mark from O2. That's when I found out what had happened. I have paid them back but they said my file might still not be reinstated to its former glory.
I should have kept an eye on my account and queried the extra payment but they should have contacted me also.
They're deals are so good (like this one) that I had to order in the Mrs name few weeks back even after this cockup

The mistake was that they assumed the direct debit would go through and I was out of pocket so they refunded into my bank account. I cancelled the direct debit so it bounced and I therefore I had got reimbursed for money that never left my account.
The annoying thing was I didn't know and no one from O2 contacted me .

youre not going to get 1020 quality from any smartphone around ... the area where most smartphones struggle badly is in lower light where the LGG4 and GalaxyS6 shine (wide aperture lens, Optical image stabilisation etc) in simple terms the LG G4 is better for stills (laser autofocus) and the G6 better for video (LG G4 focus tends toi wander) .. theres no other smartphone around at the momen bar the Lumia 950 (half finished OS/lack of apps) thats anywhere close ... so for me its the G4, s6 or lumia

Beware guys, don't use the contract card and cancel the contract straightaway when you receive phone (before that go to live chat to request unlock code)
I believe that the contract can be cancelled and you will still receive the unlock code if it was requested before on live chat.
If you use contract card and don't cancel the airtime straightaway, you are risking to pay for one month's tariff, I got Galaxy Alpha for £120 last time round and cancelled it the next day, however the customer advisers in online chat told me to use the contract card for 24 hours otherwise they will apparently not be able to unlock the phone. As I have used the card and didn't cancelled the contract the bill was generated for first month next day, and I was charged full amount for my airtime plan by direct debit after 14 days. When the next bill came in they said they will refund me over a half of the airtime tarrif as I haven't used it, however the card was active from 1st December till 8th December even though I have cancelled on 1st. As it was Christmas, after an 30 minute talking and direction to supervisor they said they will make one final bill refunding me everything that they have charged, apart from the £120 phone cost of course.

This a good price for the SGS6
I did the O2 refresh a little over a year ago for the S5 and cancelled the airtime ASAP after receiving through the post and ended up with a nice shiny Samsung Galaxy S5 for the princely sum of £259ish.
Mine was actually a refurb @ £259 IIRC, but by all accounts it was a new phone.
I upgraded recently, but didn't bother with the SGS6 due to lack of SD card expansion and non-removable battery and went for Samsung Note 4, but that was £366, so £259 for the SGS6 is a steal and a bargain to grab if you need a new phone soon. Just MHO of course.:smirk:

do I need to install the sim first and activate it before cancelling it, and requesting it to be unlocked ? Or when I recieve the device I simply leave the sim un-activated and ask to cancel the air time and ask for my unlock code.

Hey guys,
Wondering if you can answer some questions here. I've just moved to the UK from Australia and set up a Lloyds bank account in the last week and have been searching for a phone and this deal seems perfect.
Some info: I am allowed pay by debit over time with my account. And I've definitely got enough money to pay off the phone BUT at the minute I am still seeking employment. I don't know if O2 know about this or if they care but if they do, do you think it will affect my chances of purchasing? In other words will O2 say "no thanks, we don't trust your financial situation and you may stop paying".
Thanks in advance
neoboy
26 Dec 15#155
If you're going with the Refresh you would have to pay off the phone in full, can't continue paying just the phone part of £10 a month unfortunately. O2 will just use the information from the credit agencies to make a decision on whether to give this to you in the first place. That information may be sparse with you just moving over but only way to find out is to basically try applying. If you get knocked back then may have to "slum" it with PAYG while your credit history builds up over a year or so.

Btw can anyone recommend a decent glass screen protectir
I tend to prefer tempered glass protectors over the film ones, might be a placebo effect but my last phone felt more secure and I felt more confident holding it. Plus I found that film type protectors almost had a plasticky feel to them, finger didn't glide across the screen as nicely as glass. Then again that might not apply to all film-based protectors.
Now thinking about how to protect the back of the device. Don't fancy a case, as to me that just makes the premium design of a premium phone a moot point. Probably will either get a skin or just leave it as it is.

I ordered this first thing on Christmas Eve morning. I knew this deal was coming up through the o2 Priority app.
I've gone for the 1GB £29.99 up front + £27.50/mth option as I plan on keeping the contract (had to pay off my old refresh phone - £160!). The total cost I have to pay for the phone is £10 more than the OP, but I'm currently on the same contract and I'm happy enough with it so I'm paying the same monthly amount for a much better phone. I've also already sold my current phone, so cost to upgrade isn't actually that much.
I can't wait to get my hands on it, but I have to wait until Tuesday 29th for delivery though, damn Bank Holidays! Cancel Christmas and get me my phone!!!

mgaffar123
26 Dec 151#176
1) Buy phone using the mentioned tariff in the original post
2) Receive phone
3) Immediately contact o2, best way by online chat and request an unlock code (if needed)
4) Once unlock code has been requested/received, call o2 and ask to pay off the handset and cancel the contract (not sure if you can pay off the device online)
So in the end you pay £19.99 when you first buy the phone, then when you contact o2 to pay off the device you pay a further £240 ultimately costing you £259.99 for the phone.

26 Dec 151#185
The issue here is that android and touch wiz take up around 11gb. I've just checked a display one at the o2 store in Trafford centre and after that 11gb, and a few gb for demo apps you're only left with 11 or 12 gb. Doesn't sound a lot for photos.
I just can't justify the extra £90 for 64gb, especially when I have one of those EE mobile wifi things which takes in a memory card anyway so I can use that as extra storage should I need it. I think!
As I said I'll just bite the bullet and learn to live with it. Use it side by side with the 6s Plus for a week or so then sell one of them on.
Next problem: I chose black. Looks a bit erm plain lol . Not sure if I should try my luck and swap with a white or gold.
After all that I'll probably put it in a case anyway

I want to gift this phone to my someone. Can I go through all the steps of unlocking, cancelling contract and paying of the price of the phone, without having to open the original box? I suppose, I would be required to insert the SIM card which comes with the O2 refresh contract and this would mean that I would need to open the box?
Also, once we have the unlock code, does that have to be used before the airtime contract is cancelled with O2?

what will I need to say to 02 after receiving the phone
It's a tough choice. Very hard to distinguish between read/write speeds without testing them so it comes down to other features, The Samsung has 5-proof durablity against water, shock, temp, magnets, and X-rays but has a losable cap and is perhaps the most obtrusive which if you wanted to play a movie direct from the drive might be annoying. The Kingston is the smallest but not sure about the durability of the plastic swivel cap and it appears to lack the 5 proof features. The Sandisk is retractable which is the most appealing but again is bulkier than the kingston and again lacks the the 5 proof features of the Samsung. I'd be interested if anyone has an opinion especially if they've owned one of these.I'll be getting one to use as additional memory for a multi month trip round South America so want something durable.

It's one of the best Android phones so should be an advancement on the Nexus 5, the camera in particular being far superior. I was about to buy the phone and when the paiement was being made I had a message saying "due to your credit history we'll have to take a deposit of £150.if you pay all your bills for 3 months this will be refunded"
That's BS I never had a single credit issue. Got 3 lines under my name.
Do you guys still think I can buy it, pay the phone off straight away and still get the £150 back?
I've had a Samsung Galaxy S4 16GB with a 16GB SD micro memory card for 2+ years and never really found storage a problem, although I don't tend to store videos on my phone.
A bigger concern for me is if the battery deteriorates then you can't really easily/cheaply replace it, but for £260 I guess it's not a real concern if it won't last much over 2 years.

Ordered on Friday. Called collection store earlier today, set out with order number and payment card, popped into store and was told I needed a four digit code. The order confirmation didn't mention this. No email or text was received. But if you look at the click&collect webpage it does mention requiring the four digit code or driver's licence.
I guess O2 are pretty bogged down that they can't send out texts, emails or update their online ordering information. Absolute joke and the collection page stated pick up was possible within the hour.
Tried calling their CS instore but held in a queue. Guess I'll have to waste an hour of my time sorting out their mess with online chat.
I hindsight it was my own fault. Had I called anytime other than 11:02 the guy I spoke to, the manager I think, might've finished his morning latte and at least informed me to bring order number, card, id or four digit number.

when you placed the order you should have got a few emails from O2. Welcome pack, online username, etc. Amongst the emails should be one titled Your O2 Order Confirmation (). Your four digit code is in there, so read it carefully and dont ignore it.

28 Dec 15#254
Indeed. People are stressing over nothing. The price you pay to buy off your contract is the handset price only. The monthly sim line rental you only have to pay off if you continue the contract past 14 days.
O2 are not stupid. They designed the refresh contract just for people who want to pay off the phone and buy another one. What we are doing here to get the s6 for cheap here is nothing outside of their t&cs so stop stressing everyone. If you're that concerned then don't take out the contract and leave the rest of us ton it.

I collected the phone yesterday, and received the unlocking code on the same day. Just now I called O2 to cancel the airtime. They said I need to pay off the handset in one go. Once you cancel contract is the phone warranty with O2 still or does it switch to Samsung?
Really torn between gold and black/blue.
Gold in pictures seems to look good, but unsure if it will be top shiny and a distraction to the screen when watching YouTube or too reflective when using as a sat nav.
Any thought!?

After checking this out at the o2 store I went to CPW and checked the system memory usage on their display s6. This said just over 5gb usage so really I'm as confused as anyone now. Surely bloat ware can't double the amount of memory usage. All I can attitude it to is that it could be a display phone and a custom system build just for display purposes with a lot of custom display bloat ware.
Can someone who has the phone from o2 check system and then storage and tell us the system usage?

64gb is £80 more, but then takes a cheapish phone up to quite expensive. (Though did just pay £350 for girlfriends for xmas)
Think am going black. Just don't want to be gimped. Am sure S6 should be a nice upgrade from my Nexus 5.

He said the airtime will officially be cancelled at midnight tonight, however the sim card is now pretty much dead, can only use it for emergency calls so it may actually be instant, as the phone call between me and o2 cut off as soon as he said he had cancelled. If you use a high quality streaming audio service like Tidal and like to keep a good chunk downloaded to your phone so as not to cane your data, it's not a stupid amount at all. Can imagine plenty of situations where having an extra 32GB would come in handy - and considering it's not something you can upgrade and you might keep this phone for 18-24 months, makes sense to me to go for the 64GB...

I've survived on a 16gb iPhone for long enough - with music, apps, etc - never had an issue. So 32GB should be ample.
I've ordered mine and it's arriving tomorrow. I pre-empted trying to get the unlock code, but was told via online chat I need the IMEI (for which I need the phone) Will do everything tomorrow and update - but it looks like this is solid.
What surprised me most is that I have no credit history, having just moved in to a new house from a parental house - and it wasn't an issue. I do have a credit card, but that's it.

Shame it's not black black. Hopefully the blue in it don't look too bad. Certainly in pics looks the least standout. But then looks least distracting for when using screen.
I'm 90% sure on 32gb black at moment. I'm using 25gb on my Nexus 5 (S6 23gb free space) But then I do have a shed load of pics that aren't needed and could trim down on some apps.
If price was only £40 more to get to 64gb then I would but £80 is a little much.

Got my phone this morning - logged in to online chat and requested the phone to be unlocked. I was told it can take 7 days but normally within 3 days.
I then called 202 and asked to cancel the airtime and pay for the phone. I was pressed on why I want to leave, quite hard to be honest. Eventually I had to tell the adviser "can I just pay the phone off please?" He is obviously paid to keep people with o2; but he was a bit pushy and seemed to know what I was up to. Who cares? Thanks OP, All done
I decided to go with the 64GB one, worked out to £340.00 .£99.00 upfront + £10x24.
This is the step I did.
1) Got the phone (I got it from the o2 store) and pop the sim in.
2) Called o2 (202) and paid for the phone (£240)
3) After 24 hours requested for phone unlock on O2 Chat and within couple of hours I received unlocked code via email. Inserted a non O2 sim and entered the provided code and it worked fine.
4) Today I went on o2 Chat and requested for the airtime to be cancelled. I was told thats all done for me and since I am within 14 days cancellation period I would not be charged anything. But she advised I cancel my direct debit just incase.

If you signed up to the Refresh tariff then they are just telling lies as you can cancel the airtime if you pay off the device. You don't need to give the phone back, but you need to pay it off.
You might need to call back and speak to someone who actually has a clue. Also, if you bought online, you can't go to a shop to return the stuff, so it's obvious you spoke to someone incompetent

For people having a hard time cancelling, this is how I did it. Once I received my unlock code and unlocked the phone, I put the o2 sim they provided into the phone and called 202. The first thing I asked was to pay off the device plan, I didn't mention cancelling the airtime. Gave my card details and once the guy confirmed that payment had been successful I just said I also want to cancel the airtime as I realised I don't need that amount of airtime. The guy then proceeded to cancel my airtime, no questions asked. As soon as he confirmed he had cancelled it the phone cut off as the sim was now dead.
I got an email confirming I had paid off the device. A few minutes later i got another email saying my first bill of £21 would be taken from my account on the 11th of Jan. I then contacted them via live chat to confirm everything was indeed cancelled, which the person confirmed was the case. I then asked why I had been sent a bill even though I cancelled within my 14 day cooling of period, the person said I shouldn't have been sent that bill and refunded the £21 and said it would clear within 10 days.
Update: Also, for anyone that gets the error message on the app or website when trying to unlock, contact them via online chat and they can do it for you, I got my unlock code within 20 minutes doing it this way.

I think it depends who you get on chat. My bloke was convinced I needed to pay 30 days notice and wouldn't cancel without a big interrogation which took over an hour. He said I had to transfer to pay as you go and give him all sorts of details such as my new provider and the number I was going to be using. And wouldn't cancel for ages kept saying they can beat any deal. I finally left the chat with him saying I will have to pay for usage but not airtime as such so I've had the chat emailed to me for reference.

Thank you family. I actually spoke to somebody from the O2 online chat team and they confirmed that I could keep the phone and pay for it. I still did need to speak to somebody on the phone and when I did they also confirmed that the phone could be purchased in full for £240. So my SIM card is now cancelled. Thanks all

Spent so long going to and fro on whether it was a good idea to get this or not...finally stumbled over the line and o2 wanted 150 pounds for a deposit. I kind of expected that (been living in the UK <3 years) but it's made me a little hesitant ie is it worth the trouble of chasing the deposit back too.
Anyone had any experience with that and getting the deposit back?

Pretty sure that the new sim attached to the phone needs to be inputted to register the iemi code and activate the contract before you can then cancel.

If you do not put the sim card in you will not get the unlock code. It will fail (mine did).
My second one received the unlock code.
1. Put sim card in. Dial 202 (free) listen to the instructions, hang up - phone activated.
You will NOT be charged. Data usage shows minor amount - do not worry. You will not be charged.
2. Complete form and request unlock code.
3. Start a chat and ask for VAT invoices, if important to you, else bills will not show VAT.
Ignore this step if you do not need VAT invoices.
4. Call o2, pay off device and request cancellation of airtime.
You can start a chat and cancel airtime and confirm nothing to pay and receive an email of the chat.
I was told there was nothing to pay. I cancelled the day of receipt. To pay the device, you need to make a free call.
£260 for 32GB or £340 for 64GB version (ignoring a penny).

Yes, go for the 5GB data and pay £99.99 upfront.
Device cost is £339.99.
But is £80 higher really worth the extra 32GB? This is for you to decide alone on your needs.
These phones have a built in self-destruct --- when the battery degrades the phone is useless.
Clever Samsung! (S5 better design for users).
You can get the battery changed by third parties but it will be expensive.

How it worked for me...
1) Picked up phone - not opened it.
2) Went on live chat and requested unlock code. You will need the phone number and IMEI number. IMEI on end of box and phone number on SIM card or on receipt from O2.
3) Rang Customer Services and cancelled airtime. Explain that you want to keep device and pay balance of device.
4) Put SIM in phone immediately and register it. If you dont register the SIM then they cant unlock the phone.
5) I got unlock code through same night on email. Write the code down.
6) Put in new SIM and enter unlock code.
7) Enjoy phone!

Received today but I still feel a little uneasy about the 32gb memory seeing as I've also purchased the Samsung Gear VR to go with it and the apps for this will also need to be stored directly on the phone. Also I'll be travelling a lot over the next year or two so even though the additional 32gb is a rip off this may be offset by the convenience it provides. Therefore I'm considering ordering the 64gb now and selling this. Has anyone done this on O2 refresh? Am I likely to encounter any problems doing the same thing twice in a week? Would also be interested to know how much of the additional £80 would be translated into resale value should I choose to upgrade in around a year?

So I:
Requested Unlock via webchat
Then phoned 202 and payed off my device plan (had to give them card details to pay off)
Then I requested to cancel Airtime. I was then put through to another department who asked why I wanted to leave.
I told them I use my phone alot abroad. They told me about an app. I then politly just said that I was whithin my 14 days cooling off period and the plan wasn't for me, can I cancel?
I was told that It would be cancelled today, that a bill would be generated in 30 days time for any charges I may have incurred and/or monies owed to myself! I asked to make sure I would be cancelled with hearing 30m days. i was told she said 'Usually you have to give 30 days, but because I am in my 14 days I didn't'
I asked if a bill was being generated I would have to wait to cancel my Direct Debit details, she said 'Yes thats correct'
So now will keep refreshing until account shows cancelled. I get my unlock code. Then I can put in my three sim and reset the phone and hopoefully be up and running today.
(Compared to my Nexus 5 though, just based on size and screen, I think I have just moved from 1 handed device to 2. On the Nexus it was comfortable grip and could swipe the notifications with my thumb from top and touch 99 % of the screen for typing etc. With the S6 my thumb doesn't quite stretch and readjusting my hand feels alot more slippy. May be forced to get a case for this one :o( )

However, as I was sleeping, the unlock faeries have been and I now have an email at 09:35 from 'my care'. Just need to put different sim into phone and get 3 chances to put code in to unlock it.
Then I'm going to update latest firmware. Factory reset and then transfer all my contacts and messages using the Samsung option.
Will also go on Spigen website and get myself a cover (Probably the thin armour ones with little kick stand) cos it's a little slippery in my hand compared to my Nexus 5.
Only had a little play up to now. I did compare side by side with my Nexus 5.
So far I see that the screen has a slight yellow warmth to it, so whites don't look as white as with my Nexus and it's cooler tone.
YouTube HD videos have a very slight choppy playback compared to nexus 5 which video is alot smoother.
Also it almost becomes a 2 handed device as my thumb doesn't quite stretch around the screen like it did the Nexus 5.
Oh so slippy and dissapointment it doesn't feel safe to leave it bare back. Really prefer em as they come.
However, early pleasantries is that the screen and photos are excellent. (Reds and Greens really pop out. Not sure if a little too much. Reds seem slightly bright with a hint towards orange)
Had a quick look at the infrared for the TV and setup with Sky box was quick and really loved the early use of that.
Like I said it's early days and will go through testing everything now. Also the screen yellow tint may tone down with use. May be a glue thing like with the Nexus early issues. Or might just be AMOLED screens.
But can't notice on its own, just side by side with my Nexus.
Anyways, thanks for reading. Be interesting to hear from others feedback on the device. But I'm happy overall to get stuck in and see what it can offer. (will keep my Nexus for a month just in case though)

Well,
i have just been on the online chat and the adviser states i have to pay an early cancellation charge which i have made them aware is complete nonsense as i have 14 days to cancel the agreement. the charge was £438.
i then contacted 202 and they advise the charge will be a months charge as i have to give 30 days notice! again i have re-iterated the 14 days agreement but to a point where they are requesting the phone back if ti wish to cancel within this period even through the device was paid for.
i pointed them toward the 30 days notice takes place after the 14 days but they are confident of their clam.....

That's not true at all. They're very inconsistent with things like this, which is why some people have had a bit of trouble and others have not. It's worth just ringing again and talking to a different person, it's quite likely somebody else will just put the cancellation straight through. Some of them really just don't have a clue.

Hello,
Im a tad confused on how to do this. Some people say to insert sim when you first get the device and some don'. Is this the correct order?
1) Get the phone and pop the sim in.
2) Call 202 to activate and pay for the phone (£240)
3) Requested for phone unlock on O2 Chat
4) Wait until the phone is unlocked
5) Go on o2 Chat and requested for the airtime to be cancelled.
or
1) Go on live chat and request unlock code
2) Call o2 (202) and paid for the phone (£240)
3) Wait for unlock code and insert o2 sim - then remove and pop your network on in
4) Go on o2 Chat and request for the airtime to be cancelled.
Many thanks

Both methods will be fine, but I'd say do it the first way (O2 sim in straight away and ring 202 to activate) just to make sure it's all up and running. You could also cancel airtime as soon as you've requested the unlock code and paid the £240 (do this with the My O2 app, much quicker) and it will still arrive afterwards.

this is a nightmare so many assistants saying different things, they promise unlock codes then dont do it i only got mine through my o2, i requested unlock first day, paid off device 2nd day, had unlock end of 2nd day. trying ro cancel airtime a nightmare been told 30 days to be paid, can only do after 14 days pro rata etc etc. 1 advisers said cancelled and no charge but when i checked this had not been actioned good job i had his name and a screen print as proof as im not recieving email transcripts.
i have finally received another confirmation that this will be cancelled without charge in 24 hours after the assistant saying i would need to send the phone back lol and then in would be refunded even though i paid.... so i basically told him straight, paid device which im entitled to do, now i want to keep the device and cancel the airtime within 14 day cooling off period if this isnt done i want to speak to o2 managment and will take to trading standards. Walla he said done and gave me reference, screen print taken and lets see.
only being a bit of a scrooge with airtime as its the principle and tbh £30 more and £290 for an s6 is not that of a great deal.
moral if my experience double check if using live chat, take prints and finally nicey nice talk doesnt work ask then to qoute t&c if they are funny goodluck lol...

I cancelled without any problems. I think it's a good idea to pay off the device first then cancel in a different call/chat. If they tell you that you need to give notice etc, just talk to someone else. If people complain, they might change it so that you can't do this trick :disappointed:
Say you're not getting 4G or that you have found a better deal elsewhere (which is what I said)

Thanks for the quick review-I received the code shortly after I posed the question so I`ve finally got mine up and running-coming from a Samsung S4 and, more recently, Honor 7, I find the S6 a bit of a mixed bag. The build quality is awesome, camera is brilliant so is the OLED screen although I am struggling to see all those extra pixels that the quad HD display is supposed to possess. In terms of resolution and clarity, I find it no different to the full HD OLED screens on my old S4 or my wife's One Plus X so I wouldn`t recommend buying it for the sake of the display.
The biggest let down as far as I am concerned, particularly in comparison to the Honor 7, is poor battery life- from full charge, its dropping around 5% per hour with wi fi on and very occasional use so I expect get around 24 hours on stand by or around 5-6 hours with moderate use from a full charge, which I think is atrocious. The Honor 7 was lasting me around 30 hours on a single charge with moderate to heavy use (lots of streaming, calls, screen on time) although it arguably has a much bigger battery and fewer pixels to power due to being 'mere' full HD etc.
All in all, the S6 seems more style than substance and a step backwards from the S5 if you ask me- based on a few hours of usage, if I was't experiencing call issues over the EE signal box with the Honor 7 (plus the fact that I bricked it a few days ago after installing some third party cr*p) I would have readily returned the S6 for a refund (although I read somewhere on the website that they only offer £ 185 for returned phones)

Yes thanks for the follow up review. I charged it up yesterday morning to full, will just check now.............. 1day 6hours with 2hours 18mins standby and has 8% left.
With my Nexus 5 it also has small battery, so for me it will prob be around the same 3hours 49mins screen on time out of 10hours since full charge and on 14%
So battery probably comparable.
In regards to the screen, it is possible it's adaptive mode because of browsing text or AMLOD screen. Something I will read up on. Though may find more faults if I go searching for them. With my Nexus 5 I swapped it our twice. Once because of bad GPS and the other because of yellow screen.
I have noticed it's yellow tint when front on, but any slight tilt and the yellow tint goes, but to be replaced by what seems to be a turquoise tint. Even just the right angle giving turquoise at the top and yellow at the bottom.
People may think I'm being finicky, but I like to try to get maximum buyers satisfaction and seek close to perfection when I spend (for me) a large sum of money.
I was happy with the Nexus 5, but with being in this site and the fuzzy feeling of getting a good deal.. And also after spending £350 on the Mrs the phone in white from Argos. I did a mini flash buy and decided I would grow to love my new gadgetry once it was in my hands.
I'm yet to love it as I've bonded so well with this phone. But once the new case ( :o( having to have a case #slippyasafish) arrives, I will delve into the phone and get a good comparison and self review.
I may even come back here for a waddle and compare experience with others.
Anyways in the meantime, hope you all get your phones unlocked, airtime cancelled and get past those random (sometimes cluless) operators.
Happy New Year... I shall be back once I've had some time with my new sibling :op

For those who ordered for in-store pick-up, MyO2 will not show anything relating to the order. The only documents I have are the original email with 4 digit code, store receipt and confirmation email saying I paid £240 to buy out the device.
Unlock code took about 12 hours after online chat agent said the easiest way is via the online Unlock form.
I called 202 to cancel the airtime but was told since I owed 24 months they couldn't do that. The saving grace was they allowed paying off the device that then allowed the airtime cancellation. Same result. I requested it to occur during the call, said my thanks and the line was cut.
I was told since it was in-store pickup the contract was active from 25th December, but picked up on 30th and I could dispute any charges between 25th - 31st. Why didn't the store activate it?
Also online order for store pick-up means returns have to be processed online, not in-store.

Yet another minor gripe..the finger print sensor is highly temperamental and sluggish compared to the Honor 7..in fact, it locked me out of the phone this afternoon after refusing to recognise my fingerprint or back up password. Contacted Samsung Tech support who were worse than useless and since I'd turned off both Wifi and mobile data to conserve the pi*s poor battery, the only option was to do a factory reset losing all my data in the process-judging from posts on various forums, this is a known issue with the S6 and I would advise everybody using the fingerprint sensor to keep Wifi or Mobile data at all times and write down your backup password somewhere safe.

People moan to much you have a high-end phone for the price of a mid range. You have simply the best screen on the market its blisteringly bright outside and looks amazing. One of the best cameras out as well specially 4k it looks so good when streamed to my 4k tv, the design is fantastic.
Many users on the Marshmallow beta are saying how smooth it is, I personally never use touchwiz, I put nova launcher on as I like to tweek how it looks. Can't say I had much issues with lag.
When I set the fingerprint scanner up I just add 4-5 from the same finger, using lots of different angles/ positions so it reads it faultless for me. I will keep this until the S7 is out.

I got a bill for £1.54, which I paid on the phone as I had cancelled the direct debits.
So far I've had no problems with the process. I activated the Sim calling O2 CS to pay off the device, requested then unlock from my o2 account and cancelled via live chat the following day when it showed that I had paid for the device and I had unlocked the phone.
I think those being billed for the airtime in full must have paid off the device at the same time as cancelling; in that case I assume their system gets confused as it won't have processed the payment yet so it looks like you're cancelling when the device hasn't been paid off. Just my idea but I might be wrong.

Hi..its quite poor compared to some of the 3000+mah devices (or the S5 for that matter) out there. I'd say you are looking at charging it twice every 24 hours if you are a moderate to heavy user. Not too much of an issue if you keep the charger handy or carry a power pack for your commute home-it does incorporate fast charging so goes from 0-100% in around an hour and 20 mins. Don't get me wrong, there is a lot to like about this phone but poor battery life and lack of expandable memory may put some off (but then it hasn't in the case of the iphone). It is an amazing piece of kit but not without its flaws as some would lead you to believe...

So, my girlfriend bought this 5 days ago. Payment went through, we selected collect from Metrocentre - it said Dec 30th. Went to collect from the Metrocentre and it wasn't there - turns out she'd be sent an email asking to ring to provide "more details". We've rang about a dozen times over the last few days - nobody even answers the phone.
Tomorrow we'll be trying the generic O2 numbers and live chat - the specific number we were told to ring seemingly never being answered.
Question is, does our 14 days start from the payment, or from when we get the phone? Interested in a factual answer rather than a guess, if anyone knows? i.e I'd assume from when you receive the phone - but I'm only guessing.

The following message for me as well
As 0XXXXXXXXXXXX96 is the original number with which this phone was purchased so I will advise you to please use this phone with this number for 24 hours at least.
As the phone shall be registered with it's original number and then only we can go ahead and unlock the phone.
Once the phone will be registered with this number then only we can go ahead and process the handset unlocking.

Called up cancelled airtime again. Went on live chat and they conformed that is has been cancelled and a new bill will be generated showing £0.00 . I took screen captures of live chat and they gave me a reference number too. Hopefully got there in the end .... But what a faff ..... Why not just sell the phone unlocked for a decent price as sim free??

I'm the same.... I went through live chat....
They told me to use the phone ( make phone calls) and then they will be able to request an unlock code..... I said it was a present and didn't want to open it..... ( with no luck)
Then I tried calling customer service on the new phone.... They told me I needed to use the phone for 48 hours and then call customer service.
For those who managed to get it sorted in a few hours..... Were very lucky...

The only way is to flash a different SG6 firmware from Sammobile but unless you've done it before on an android phone, then I wouldn't take the risk of bricking your phone just to remove the O2 splash screen.

Wish my transaction was as smooth as others. It shows that all staff members are definitely not all singing off the same hymn sheet. Here's my story
1. Saturday ordered phone
2. Today (Monday ) received the phone
3. Sim inserted no need to register it.
4. Requested phone unlock code via web chat ( no code received some 6 hrs later but warned it could take up to 7 days). No problems so far
5. Rang o2 and paid £240 for the phone
6. Back on webchat to cancel airtime contract and here's where I had problems.
I was told I had to give 30 days notice and therefore pay a months bill after this 30 day term. Despite my objections they wouldn't budge but then he said if I kept the phone number and change it to a PAYG then that would take 48 hours and I would only pay 2 days of the contract pro rata which should be no more than a couple of quid.
Anyone else have this problem!!!!!

I applied for the unlock code via Live chat, the online form, the button on MyO2 and over the phone and it came through after about 21 hours. After being told it can't be done quicker than 7 days over and over again.. Paid off the device and cancelled the airtime citing the 14 days cooloff to close the account that day with immediate effect. I can't see what advantage rooting a phone brings these days, could potentially lose your warranty just so you can delete the odd Samsung app. Flashing with none operator Firmware is a safer option as at least there's never going to be an issue with your warranty if it plays up.

Like some others, I received a bill for £21 on the same day I cancelled, yesterday 4th Jan (a few hours after cancellation). On chat I've been told a final bill will be issued 14 days after cancellation, which seems to be on the same day as the direct debit, 18 January.
What are people doing? Keep direct debit and wait for a refund? Cancel direct debit and hope for the best? I don't want a black mark on my credit rating agency file.

On live chat ask them to provide an estimate of your closing balance and state that as you are canceling i the 14 day grace period you only have to pay for what you use, in my case this is 2 days at around 75p per day, they estimated it at around £2, so i screenshoted that incase i need to query my final bill.

Picked up my phone from O2 store today, got home and spoke to someone on live chat who said they'd send me the unlock code. Then rang up customer services from another phone, and after some faffing about (she had no idea what she was doing and had to ask her manager twice) she put me through to retentions.
They cancelled the airtime and I paid off the device plan, but he said I needed to pay for the time the account was open for, and it would be about £10-13. I kept saying I haven't even put the sim in the device, but he said it doesn't work like that :/
I also asked about unlocking to double check, and he said I had to put the sim into the phone for 24-48 hours. If I don't do that and the account gets disconnected, I won't be able to unlock the phone. He said he'd extend the disconnect date a few days so I could put the sim in and use it, he also said I had to call them back after using it 24-48 hours to request the unlock code. I told him about the fact that I already requested the code via chat and he said the information they gave me was wrong, I needed to use the O2 sim. Seriously confused about this!
I'll probably leave it to morning, to see if an email with an unlock code comes through and if I can unlock my phone without putting the sim into it. Then I'll attempt to protest the £10-13 charge as I've not even put the sim into the phone!

Just an update in case it helps someone. The guy I spoke to on the phone was full of it. I got the unlock code via email after requesting it on live chat. Popped another sim in and entered the code in the email, and job done. No need to put the O2 sim in the phone at all!
Had no idea until right when I had to put my other sim in that it only accepted nano sims; managed to cut a micro into a nano, so pleased about that wasn't expecting it to work. If you have a printer handy and you're thinking of cutting your micro sim, I'd recommend printing out a cut-out guide. There are videos out there that can help. If you just cut it and hope like me, just keep cutting very slowly and trying it in the sim tray. Try to find a cutting video with a sim that matches your own, so you can see where you need to cut it. Good luck!

Oh and when calling customer services to cancel the airtime and pay off the device, make sure you TELL THEM that you're invoking your 14 day grace period to do so. I think that the girl I spoke to was going to put a termination fee over my head if I didn't keep repeating that, eventually she was like "ooooooh you're right actually you ARE in your grace period!"

Very helpful sales guy knew what I wanted to do
15 minutes later walk out with a shiny new S6
Call up customer services 2 hours later and got through to a guy who knew what I wanted to do but said I got through to the wrong department so he patched me through to a girl who equally knew what I wanted to, device plan paid off in full and I asked for the phone to be unlocked at the same time and I got the code less than 24 hours later.

After reading pages of these comments I feel like I must be one of the lucky ones, & spoke to the right person at 02. From start to finish the whole transaction was faultless. I ordered the phone online & collected it in Preston 2 hours later. Requested an unlock straight away via online chat, & received the code within 20 minutes. Rang 02 the very next day to cancel & pay for the phone. Four days later received a final bill showing a£240 payment I made for the phone, and the balance stated zero with a closed account. Result. Hi, does it still works this kind of a deal? I have check it and there is an option on o2 web that you can pay for the phone in front and then airtime only monthly but it looks like it's 15pm for a phone because it £360 in front.

I did find the deal with, but in t&c it says device cash price £360 even where it states monthly device charge is £10, so are you sure if cancel it you pay £240 only + up front 19.99? Or they gonna bill you after 24 months additional £120 for a device to meet that £360?

7 Jan 16#616
I just did this - the process is actually really easy. I felt a little guilty initially, but reasoned that I am allowed to do it.
1. Order the refresh plan - any of your choice.
2. Go on the chat on site the very next day and get them to send your sim unlock code - be as polite as possible - I got mine 48h later. ... but you don't need to wait for the code to come through ... it will come sometime within 7 days. Just get on with the following steps...
2. As soon as you request the code, phone o2 and say you want to cancel your "device plan" balance. Pay off the £240, then as soon as that's done, on the same call, say you want the air time cancelled right now as 'you don't have reception' or what ever makes you feel less guilty. He or see will has to do it for you; they can't question it. If they dont ask what you want to do with the air time, just ask them to cancel it as soon as the payment for your phone is taken.
A nasty loop hole as they have to operate what appears to be a single contact via two separate contracts you enter.
I will be doing this every time this option is available every few years.

T&C's suggest you have to have a contract for 6 months, although I think someone suggested earlier in the thread they'd also got the cashback on a previous similar deal. You've nothing to lose by going via the cash back sites as if they don't pay up you've still got an unbeatable deal.

Topper1900 to kingkano
7 Jan 16#623
I doubt the 14 days cancellation clause applies if it's an upgrade so you'll probably be stuck paying the phone line rental for the full 24 months? You need to check the T&C's carefully or check with live chat?
jhonny20041433
7 Jan 16#621
The same process mentioned here, but instead choose 64GB option. Should come to £109.99 up front cost and £31pm. So paying £90 extra for the extra memory..which is a lot, but if 32GB can't cut it for you....what can you do!

Consequences of cancelling and paying off handset is I am barred from taking out more contracts.
Failed on credit rating.... actually on investigation there was not a credit rating issue, it was an internal commercial issue.
The offical reason was: ""On this occasion the reason was our internal business policies."
Black mark on credit file for no reason!
Commercial issue is I got the phone for £240 and o2 may have made a loss.
fauj to Common Sense

7 Jan 16#626
No idea. They were very secretive and I did not ask. "As our business policies are commercially sensitive then I am unable to discuss the specific reason why we rejected your application."
I do not have any loans or anything else, nor likely to apply, so am not bothered. I never pay interest on anything!
You could apply and if the deal goes through, then fine. You will never know until you apply. I think a second is fine.
I purchased 2 and my wife 1 and were were both denied any more. This indicates a policy of 3 phones per address.
2 purchased online and one instore for a 64GB in white. Half an hour later I went to another o2 store to get their final 64GB version in white and rejected!
But, online I was told I could have 10 contracts, not that I would want to many, and do not believe it.
o2 even tried to charge my wife and myself 24 months rental cancellation, even though we cancelled the day of receipt. May be this was an issue. Who knows?

It took a while but 4 days after cancellation I now have an updated "disconnected bill" in my account. The previous bill of £21 has disappeared and has now been replaced by a bill which shows £21 and various credits being applied to O2. Total is now £1.36.
Instead of the usual "We'll collect this amount from your account on or around [date]. Thank you for paying by Direct Debit." the statement at the bottom of this bill is "You have payments outstanding.
Please contact O2 Customer Service or visit http://www.o2.co.uk immediately to make a payment."
This should give people confidence that the direct debit will not be taken by O2 and that it is safe to cancel.

I'm being told on live chat that the phone is unlocked. If I put any sim in it, it should work fine, but it will be locked to that network provider. Hence why they ask you to insert the o2 sim in it first and make a call, so that it can be locked to the o2 network. Once it is, it can then be unlocked to all network providers. Does this sound right? I only want to use it with 3, so it looks like I can escape the unlock procedure??

Cooling off period is irrelevant for refresh deals. You can pay off the handset at any time during the contract.
Hartrosh
9 Jan 16#652
I think the mmp669 was suggesting that he/she did not want to have to pay the full first month's charges and then have to give 30 days' notice to terminate which, if I understand correctly, is what happens after the 14 day cooling off period - but I could be wrong!!
Topper1900
9 Jan 16#653
I could be wrong but I thought the whole point of O2's Refresh contracts was that you could "refresh" your phone not simply pay off your device plan and leave O2 part way though your contract, as far as I'm aware once you enter into a 24 months contract, and then don't cancel with the 14 day cooling off period, your stuck paying the airtime rental for the full 24 months. If so, there's little point paying off the device plan as you can't leave O2 early unless you pay off the remaining airtime rental as well.
Ahh ... I expect you are correct in that assumption! So if you don't cancel within the 14 days, you are tied in even if you pay off your device! To be fair, O2's tariff was not too bad - if I hadn't already had a better offer with Virgin (1250 mins plus unlimited texts and 500mb for £:sunglasses: I would have stayed but O2 only offered me 500mins plus the rest for £11.48 and that included a 15% discount. No contest really! I think O2 will have to revisit their minutes' offer to compete with the market.

I just had a look but all the tariffs are now showing with £15 device charge and rest for airtime tariff. Same device charge for both versions 32GB and 64GB. No upfront cost for 32 version but 29.99 for 64 version. Does that mean £10 device offer is over? Anyone recently got this offer?

I took advantage of this deal wary something would go pear shaped which it has. Ordered online and picked up in store. Next day requested unlock on live chat. Noticed phone details (Mobile no was) not shown on O2 online account so decided to insert sim and call O2 to activate as mentioned elsewhere. Paid phone off (£240) Received unlock code after two days but did not work. Have since contacted O2 three more times to unlock. Same code each time with same result. Have O2 cottoned onto this and messing people about with unlock process so as they will return/cancel. Looks like phone going back.

Have you inserted a SIM other than an O2 network SIM i.e. 3, EE, or Vodafone before trying to enter the unlatching code?

Unlock code given to me within hours, I just requested the code online on my02 page. Even if they don't give unlock code, how much does it cost to unlock it? Must be pretty cheap ~ <£15??. Still a good deal for the handset even if you have to pay a bit extra for unlock code.

I wouldn't have thought they would be inclined to do that as once the box is opened they can't sell it as new - it would have to be refurbished. The woman in the store I bought mine from said they O2 had got a good deal from Samsung, so I suspect even at the offer price O2 are making something, or they would not do it! I also think the launch of the rumoured S7 might be linked to the rush to get rid of S6s - I doubt they will be selling for much over the offer price in a few months' time. Just for info, the O2 site states this offer is on until Jan 13!

Have you managed to unlock your phone? Be warned that the phone gets permanently locked to O2 if you enter the wrong code thrice-happened to me after I entered the wrong code provided by O2 themselves. When I contacted them about this, they blamed me instead and refused to do anything about it. Most standard unlocking options won`t work once O2 apply the permanent lock and Samsung won`t help you out either. I have finally managed to unlock mine using a different method-PM me if you have been unable to unlock your device yet.

i've had a bill for £476.77 lol.
They charged me for 6 days because they credited my account with £16.77 after taking out £24 which makes it about £7 for 6 days that i ordered to phone. I literally only had it for 2 or 3 days though plus i never used it so i don't really think i should be charged according to there T&C. Anyway that's nothing compared to the £476.77.
I don't want a bad rating so i don't really want to cancel the DD but then i don't have enough money in that account so wouldn't really make a difference if i cancel or not as if they try to take the money it wouldn't go through anyway. Been on the phone to them and they are saying it will take 3 days to rectify and issue new bill and the cancel my DD.
This shouldn't be happening from a big company like o2. Voted COLD lol

Here's my experience of getting the s6 with this deal (thanks rodman!):
- Ordered Thursday daytime online for store collection (said delivery on Saturday) [went through Quidco just incase]
- Received email on Friday morning saying phone ready to collect in store (collected after lunchtime)
- Put sim into phone, sent text to it and called it. Rang 202, paid off phone plan and requested unlock code (couldn't unlock due to phone not being registered on o2 network)
- Rang 202 next day (Sat morning) request unlock code, said 24hours to register request then upto 72 hours to receive unlock code
- Unlock code received in the evening. Put my id-mobile sim in, unlocked straight away and working fine
- Next morning (Sunday) used online chat to cancel airtime (mentioned 14 day grace period). Initially, told need to return phone, so said I'm keeping phone and had already paid for it fully. Told ok, airtime cancelled there and then.
- Next day checked o2 account website, accounts says disconnected bill, but says amount due £21
- Went on online chat again to tell them about this, got reply "I see the account is already closed and I have arranged to credit the Airtime bill amount." and "You will not get charged anything as I have taken care of this for you".
- All sorted

Word of warning! Got this on the 31st of December and followed the steps to cancel the contract, unlock etc. After a week, the device developed several faults (touch ID not working, back button 'ghost pressing' constantly, all well known hardware issues with the S6). Contacted O2 who send me a replacement- on receiving it, I duly requested a fresh unlock code-HOWEVER, I was provided with a wrong one which I entered thrice resulting in the device becoming permanently locked to O2. I have since contacted O2 who have not been particularly sympathetic, claiming that it was my fault and there was little they could do.Thankfully, I had saved transcripts of my live chats and have been asked to fax them along with the email containing the wrong unlock code so they can investigate the matter further-looks likely to be a drawn out affair judging by the customer agent's attitude.
In short, DO NOT USE THE UNLOCK CODE IF IT DOESN'T WORK FIRST TIME ROUND AS YOU RECEIVE NO WARNING AND THE DEVICE WILL BE PERMANENTLY LOCKED TO O2-contact customer services immediately and request a different code instead.

Got slapped with a bill of approx. £588. In the process of getting it resolved at the mo, highly suggest if you get/got this deal then make sure you follow emails closely and that it's all resolved/closed off for good. Supposedly it was entered into the system wrong, i.e. that I terminated the contract as opposed to cancelling within 14 days grace period (even though I got all advisors I spoke to to confirm it was within 14 days). Well, I should have been worried! I thought I had cancelled my direct debit through the bank but it turned out that when I did so I was cancelling an old 02 direct debit - they had not got round to setting up the new one, which they did in between me closing the account and checking my bank statement today. £13.50 taken to 02!!! My new account had been closed but, because because there was an active direct debit 02 just took the payment!! I now have to wait 15 working days for the refund and cannot cancel this direct debit until then! Who knows what else they will do! orhanftw to vassy201187
18 Jan 16#731
Yep, I had the exact same issue, after doing some research I found that it's an extremely common problem among the normal Galaxy S6 variants (in particular, the black ones).
I tried living with it for a few days, but my OCD got the better of me - so I contacted O2 and told them I had a faulty phone (explained that the home button was very loose). They were very good, arranged a courier to come to my door and swap the phone with a new one, easy as pie. The home button on the new one is solid, and the battery life seems better too!
I'd suggest giving that a try if it's really bothering you, bear in mind you have to be within 30 days of purchase to swap a phone out due to manufacturing faults. Of course there's no guarantee that the new one will be any better, especially considering it affects such a large proportion of the devices... And you'd have to go through the hassle of wiping your phone and starting again (backup helps somewhat). I think it's all down to whether or not you can live with it at the end of the day ^_^

Guys,
Can people confirm why they're having to cancel any direct debits??
I followed all the steps in doing the deal, and checked with livechat that they'd cancelled it all. Why do I then need to look at Direct debits?
Hartrosh to once_upon_a_tyne
18 Jan 16#730
It would appear that when you give permission to set up a direct debit it can take several days to go through to your bank. Even if 02 have cancelled your contract they cannot stop the direct debit mandate going through - which is why the advisers appear to be telling everyone to cancel their direct debit instruction with their bank or 02s wonderful automated system sees there is a live direct debit mandate and promptly takes the month's payment even if it has been cancelled!! I copy my latest livechat conversation:
HART: I spoke to several customer service advisers recently on live chat to check that my account has been cancelled within the 14 day cooling off period which I was assured had been done. I have just checked my bank account and a monthly direct debit payment has been taken!! Please can you tell me why.
SRIVASTAVA: As the Direct Debit was active and bill already got generated, so the payment was taken from your account.
SRIVASTAVA: Shall I arrange the refund back?
HART: I really don't understand why that should have happened when I checked at least three times that the account was closed! Anyway, please arrange the refund and I will cancel my direct debit from my end. Please do so from your side, too!
SRIVASTAVA: Account is closed, its just that the bill got generated and auto debit was tried from your account.
SRIVASTAVA: Please don't cancel the Direct Debit until the refund is there in your account.
SRIVASTAVA: It may take upto 15 working days.
SRIVASTAVA: Once the refund amount is there, you can cancel the Direct Debit from the bank.
HART: So I have to wait up to three weeks? That is crazy! Can you assure me that it won't happen again?
SRIVASTAVA: I absolutely assure as the account is disconnected, no more bills will be generated and hence, no more payments from your account.
SRIVASTAVA: Let me confirm the reference number for the confirmation.
ROSAMOND HART: I will keep a close eye on my account - I still find it incredible that just because a direct debit is active O2 can just take funds, despite nothing being owed!
SRIVASTAVA: 729567116.
SRIVASTAVA: Its a confirmation reference number confirming the account is closed and no more payments will be taken from your bank.
ROSAMOND HART: I have never been sent that before - so was the account not closed previously?
SRIVASTAVA: its a confirmation that the account was closed, its not that I've canceled it right now.
SRIVASTAVA: It was canceled on 04th Jan.
ROSAMOND HART: Ok - we will leave it at that and I will wait for the refund. Thank you

Got this deal earlier but it does however decrease your credit score, mine was in the high 900's and now has dropped into the 800's due to making the average age of credit accounts less than 33 months, it puts 2 credit accounts of 0 months on and that basically messes the average age up

Hartrosh to Casper121
19 Jan 16#741
I was told NOT to cancel the direct debit until I had the refund - but it depends on whether they were planning to take the charge by dd or asking you to settle the bill directly. My charge was an automated monthly payment which was actioned because the dd instruction was still live. If I had cancelled mine (which as I mentioned previously, I thought I had done but it was an old mandate - the new one had not appeared on my banking system then!!) they would not have been able to take a charge. If they haven't actually taken anything from you, I would cancel to be on the safe side but make sure you have a copy of any online conversation you had with 02!!
Hartrosh
19 Jan 16#742
I doubt there is anything they could do - it isn't showing as a negative but as a credit check. I know the powers that be say this does not impact on your credit score but it is too much of a coincidence for my rating to fall after applying for a "loan" for the phone - which was repaid within days! The entry just shows 02 £0. Perhaps if I look at it next month it may have gone back up!

I use Noddle - it is free for life but just beware that they will charge for help improving your credit score etc. if you click on those links and agree to pay for them! I just signed up for the basic one - I have used Experian before on their free trial but it is not immediate (you have to wait for a PIN no to come in the post) and remember to cancel before then end of the trial! They use different scores for rating categories i.e. top with experian is in the 900s and Noddle works on 700 - but at the end of the day you see whether you are good or not and who has been looking at your history!

You don't have a credit score. Experian, Equifax, Noddle are not lenders. Their score is meaningless, in fact there have been lots of people saying they have been refused credit with a "score" of 999. Lenders score you based on their own criteria; one lender might refuse you, another one accept you and your credit file is always the same at the end of the day. Experian etc don't know things like your salary either.
A credit application can have an impact if there are a lot of searches/applications in a short space as lenders will perceive you as desperate for credit. One search/application won't be the cause of a refusal when applying for credit. It might be a problem with a mortgage application maybe, but really I wouldn't worry about a meaningless score by a CRA

Hi Gang. I'm sure others have had this issue, but I'm away in Prague and struggling to scroll through comments on my phone...
My GF did all the steps, paid phone off and cancelled line rental. She's had a bill for £400...
She just texted me this:
'Well the whole phone thing has not worked out.
I've been charged an early termination fee of £400.
Apparently its in the tarif. He then ended the live chat and said it was clearly stated, I agreed to it and I need to pay it. I guess there's nothing to be done. This deal was obviously not as good as it seemed on the Internet. Rather gutted to be honest; its a lot of money.'
Surely O2 have screwed up and if she rings someone there (with a brain) it can be sorted?

Seems to have happened to many who failed to cancel their direct debits fearing entries on credit file. I cancelled my contract the very next day after purchase but, like many others, received a closing bill for £420. On contacting O2, I was advised to cancel the DD and assured that my credit rating won't be affected. Having done so, I noticed that O2 set up a further DD the very next day without my authorisation, which I also canceled. However, the company tried to take 400 odd quid out of my account using the new DD last week but the payment was thankfully declined as I had cancelled the second DD mandate.
So worth keeping an eye on your account even if the DD's cancelled...

AIUI, provided the cancellation was done within the 14 day cooling off period there should be no early termination charges so don't be fobbed off if that's the case.
If contacting O2 doesn't fix the issue follow the formal complaints process (http://www.o2.co.uk/how-to-complain). If O2 still won't budge get a 'letter of deadlock' from them so you can refer earlier to Ombudsman Services: Communications. It really should not come to that but, if not already doing so, keep records of any calls or, preferably, use online chat/email and keep the transcripts. Good luck.

Despite my speaking to O2 Live Chat a week prior to DD date and them promising to cancel the £420 charge they still took it. Live Chat currently unavailable and long waits on 202.
A memo has gone-out internally as customer service agents are failing to tick the 'Waive Early Termination Fee' box when handling cancellations of the airtime agreements.
Bad service all-round from O2. :disappointed:

I had £400 taken out today and £21 taken out last month..will take 14 working days to come back to my account, i have raised a complaint with their legal department about this. Alot of money to take out of someones account "in error" i think anyone else affecting should also complain.
Exact same thing happened to me. I already filed a complaint. Has your money been refunded yet?

It took about a week for the money to come back to my account. You can claim the money back through your bank if necessary if you need the money back sooner. Takes them upto 14 working days to process a dd return back to your account. My complaint was upheld and I received £50 compensation.. Which I'm still waiting to get into my account... Let me know how your claim goes

My complaint was upheld and I also received £50 compensation. Got something like this "I can confirm that I’ve now requested for your refund to be actioned. As a way to say sorry for the issues you’ve been faced with I’ve requested an additional £50 to also be refunded to you." Will take up to another 15 days for it to process.

I just received my £50 compensation, about 2 weeks after the claim was successful. Going to cancel all the DDs on the account now

If you mean that you're already a customer then just take out another line. I've had many lines running concurrently

How in God's name did you get £259.99!?

With the airtime and phone cost split. It makes upgrading alot cheaper aswell.
I've ordered one nonetheless, hopefully everything will go seamlessly and I can cancel the contract and pay what's outstanding for the device.
..might as well get it from argos for 259.
Brand new ..no contract. ..no fuss....
Cant find any
Here's what you ordered:

1 Samsung Galaxy S6 32GB Sapphire Black O2 Unlimited 24M 20GB Refresh
£29 £19.99
So do people find the 32gb enough or do you go for more
Thanks OP. Hopefully I'll stick with the s6 and sell my much more expensive iPhone 6s Plus
I'll admit its unusual to see a deal on O2 but its only a fifty quid saving vs sim only and you're locked into a two year deal with s7 out in Feb.
Or could hold out a little longer. Recent upgrade of Nexus and being able to block nuisance calls as given my phone a but more life
why I opted for new from Argos with it being an Xmas present.
I also want to know how to unlock without inserting sim. Do they give the code ovr the phone or via email?
You do need to put the sim in and pay the percentage of the tariff until you cancel.
I've done this twice without any problems. The second time they did try to persuade me to stay.
As for impact on credit rating when doing this, I've noticed no impact. On all three services my rating has stayed close to the top after doing this both times.
I never get nusiance calls either as someone mentioned that as a potential issue. Do these companies only bother people with a poor credit history?
Airtime £29 pm
Device £10 pm
http://www.sammobile.com/2015/12/23/how-to-install-android-6-0-beta-on-galaxy-s6-or-galaxy-s6-edge/
Is it possible to swap this for the brand new one? Has anyone tried this
That only left me 2.5Gb for any photos of videos etc
Very nice phone, lovely screen, great camera. Very slippery though and a real fingerprint magnet.
Pading lpta of iPlayer shows
Wrecked my credit file.
Surely the £400+ debt should never have been out on the account in the first place?
What did you say to them in the end? And did you originally cancel the contract within the 14 days cooling off period?
O2 seems to have quite low credit requirements. Will this reduce my credit score?

What is the sequence?
1.Order phone.
2. Call to cancel airtime and pay handset
3. Ask for unlock code (after cancellation)?
How is the unlock code given? Via email, text or to the phone?
Or betweem step 2 and 3 does the sim need to be inserted?
For myself however, I will get a refurbished one or this deal..... But most probably wait another 6 moths and see what's about
The mistake was that they assumed the direct debit would go through and I was out of pocket so they refunded into my bank account. I cancelled the direct debit so it bounced and I therefore I had got reimbursed for money that never left my account.
The annoying thing was I didn't know and no one from O2 contacted me .
I've just found out a few days ago and have since paid them back and waiting on them to reply about clearing my file now.
They only reply via email no phone so takes a few days between emails.

Device cash price 360.00
Does that mean we have to pay 360 if we cancel contract?
The following is from the O2 website.
Representative example
Duration of credit agreement 24 months
Upfront cost £19.99
Monthly device payment £10.00
Total Credit amount £240.00
Total amount payable for device £259.99
Interest rate (fixed) 0%
Representative APR 0%
Device cash price £360.00
Thanks
EDIT: From personal experience I did it via the online form and was simply emailed a code after 3 days.
Is it possible to cancel airtime only and pay off device on a monthly basis or do I need to pay the full amount for device upon cancellation?
Total amount payable is refresh price.
something was wrong with my computer
Thanks in advance.

Thanks in advance.
Do we need to first cancel the contract and then unlock the phone OR we should first unlock and then cancel the contract ? OR can we do both at the same time ? Appreciate if someone can explain based on the past experience .
TIA
259.99 + 75 = 334.99.
Where can you find 6s 64gb for that kind of money.
I held down on the number in recent calls and kept it held down. Then comes up eith.... (one sec whilst I look)...'Copy number', 'Edit number before call' Or 'Block Number'
I don't want to get roped into O2's service.
though if you look at the page source its no longer available.
expired now?
This is following the link you sent and the instructions. Christmas miracle has been and gone, it seems.
I have done the refresh deal on the s4, when the refresh deal first started I believe.
Did not activate sim, got the unlock code through their online forms, then cancelled and just paid off the device plan.
So going to do it all over again
Wondering if you can answer some questions here. I've just moved to the UK from Australia and set up a Lloyds bank account in the last week and have been searching for a phone and this deal seems perfect.
Some info: I am allowed pay by debit over time with my account. And I've definitely got enough money to pay off the phone BUT at the minute I am still seeking employment. I don't know if O2 know about this or if they care but if they do, do you think it will affect my chances of purchasing? In other words will O2 say "no thanks, we don't trust your financial situation and you may stop paying".
Thanks in advance
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Protector-JETech®-Premium-Tempered-Samsung/dp/B00V5WQL82/ref=sr_1_4/278-4370932-1154863?ie=UTF8&qid=1451135502&sr=8-4&keywords=jetech+screen+protector
Although now I'm wondering if I should ask Amazon to change the order to this one, which has better reviews overall (but less of them):
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gorilla-Tech-Protector-Invisible-Resistant/dp/B013X0HRKO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1451136677&sr=8-2&keywords=screen+protector+galaxy+s6+tempered+gorilla
Cancel Christmas and get me my phone!!!
tried to order the S6 last night this morning 3 times and I've got through the whole process and only got a failed order page asking me to call O2. 3 times. The page tells me to call them.
But they're closed.
O2 suck balls.
Now for my next dilemma. Have I made a mistake in ordering the 32gb version? And have I picked the right colour? Black! Argh.
In step 3, would they ask for your phone number and which number would you give ? Is it the number of the SIM which you received with the phone, or your original contract mobile number (in my case which is a non o2 number)
Thanks a lot
Lovely phone, great camera and (IMO) really nice in gold (blingtastic)
It's an extra £80 but I won't have to manage the storage and can pack it with stuff to watch on that gorgeous screen
Top of the range phones don't come by at this price every day
Did you not read the multiple posts on this thread ?
Also, once we have the unlock code, does that have to be used before the airtime contract is cancelled with O2?
Hot deal - wish it was not such a con going for the extra 32gb.
If there's one please let me know.
Please could someone confirm...

How does this phone compare?
I was about to buy the phone and when the paiement was being made I had a message saying "due to your credit history we'll have to take a deposit of £150.if you pay all your bills for 3 months this will be refunded"
That's BS I never had a single credit issue. Got 3 lines under my name.
Do you guys still think I can buy it, pay the phone off straight away and still get the £150 back?
https://****/photos/E8gEFxJTivGyqDgQA
Thanks
A bigger concern for me is if the battery deteriorates then you can't really easily/cheaply replace it, but for £260 I guess it's not a real concern if it won't last much over 2 years.
Be quick!
So torn, if I upgrade from my Nexus 5 if should get the Gold one?
I bought the girlfriend the white for Christmas, so for me if I switch either the black or gold?
Any thoughts on any owners out there who have got either colour?
I've had the upfront cost waived in store as part of an upgrade before, but never what was owing on an existing contract.
I hate Amazon.
What to do.... What to do.....
Update: Just contacted o2 via live chat through their website to get the device unlocked, very simple and easy, the lady put all my info through to the unlock team and said the device will be unlocked within 7 working days, she insisted that 7 days was the absolute maximum and most of the time it only takes a couple of days.
Lets hope it arrives before then.
Di they ask you for the new number you got with your sim?
What details did they get on chat please?
Thanks
Name
Phone number (the number belonging to the new o2 sim you get with the s6)
Random characters of your security question answer
IMEI number (can see this by typing *#06# on your s6)
Email address (this is where they sent me my code)
and then there's the annoying wireless notification in the notifications bar which pops up whenever you're in range of a wireless network. Any way to get rid of that?
Also does wifi calling work on EE with the s6?
only bit im worried about is the term i read before accepted..
If you ask to pay off in full are they gonna charge you the full?? ive pasted below what it says
4. Amount of Credit
4.1 Total amount of credit ( “Amount of Credit”) is:
£240.00
4.2 The total amount you will have to pay:
£259.99
4.3 The cash price(s) (the amount you would pay to buy it outright)
£360.00
USB cable
Headphones
Sim card removal pin
This info is contained in the Fixed Sum Loan Agreement I received after paying.
4.1 Total amount of credit ( “Amount of Credit”) is:
£240.00
4.2 The total amount you will have to pay:
£259.99
4.3 The cash price(s) (the amount you would pay to buy it outright)
£360.00
I hope they don't impose cash price when I seek to buy out the device.
I thought this was an option :/
Does the s6 support a micro sim or a nano sim?
Is it 14 days from when you recieve the handset?
O2 are not stupid. They designed the refresh contract just for people who want to pay off the phone and buy another one. What we are doing here to get the s6 for cheap here is nothing outside of their t&cs so stop stressing everyone. If you're that concerned then don't take out the contract and leave the rest of us ton it.
Really torn between gold and black/blue.
Gold in pictures seems to look good, but unsure if it will be top shiny and a distraction to the screen when watching YouTube or too reflective when using as a sat nav.
Any thought!?
http://www.androidcentral.com/32gb-galaxy-s6-and-s6-edge-have-just-over-23gb-storage-free
Does rooting mean loss of warranty or is one stuck with bloatware?
What is the best deal for 64GB on this scheme?
Update... Answer £339.99 on 20GB data.
Can someone who has the phone from o2 check system and then storage and tell us the system usage?
O2 said Pearl White is discontinued in 64GB. I see all 64GB discontinued soon to make way for the 32GB S7 + microSD card.
It doesn't say that this is a pay monthly deal. You can get right through to the basket selecting Pay & Go with a 64Gb version for an upfront price of £389.99.
I was just wondering if O2 Pay & Go had any peculiar conditions.
64gb is £80 more, but then takes a cheapish phone up to quite expensive. (Though did just pay £350 for girlfriends for xmas)
Think am going black. Just don't want to be gimped. Am sure S6 should be a nice upgrade from my Nexus 5.
Also how slippy is it? My Nexus 5 I just keep in a pouch and just about a nice size and grip.
Just thinking with it being a little thinner, wider and glass back how it holds?
Going to purchase in next couple of hours (after football match) so wondering if 32gb is manageable or really tight?
Actually very pleasantly surprised with o2's customer service.
What number did you call to cancel the contract?
Thanks
When I take uhd videos I transfer them to my pc to watch on the 4k tv so don't need them on the device.
I guess if you keeping a phone that long then I would agree.
OK very last question (I think)
How slippy is the phone?
Do I need a cover for it?
(just saw an early Nexus 5 to S6 comparison (hard to find a good one) and mentions that the S6 is like 'holding an icicle' might be over exaggerated, bit still like to know as my N5 is manageable and safe using 1 hand)
Thanks once again for any incoming replies
Update: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171828353425
This is the case I bought, went for a cheap one just to see if I can get on with a case, as I don't normally like them.
However with it being a touch wider, obviously more slippage. Will possibly get one of the Crystal clear ones to protect back and sides. Still might need a pouch to protect when in pocket.
Shame spending premium money and needing to almost cover them up with covers.
And for those worried about about only 32gb, it's pretty simple to root and stick a bloatware free rom on saving more space. I know modding isn't for everyone but the option is there.
Just need to get hold of a nano sim from Three now? Hopefully can get one for free.
Then guessing, just put O2 sim in to activate it, then ask for unlock code straight away via chat. Then cancel contract day after.....jobs a gud un :O)
This deal only applies to S6 and not to S6 Edge or Edge+
Thank you OP. Just ordering now.
I am not very technical, so do not really know if there is much of an advantage in doing this and whether it would invalidate the warranty.
http://www.fonefunshop.co.uk/cable_picker/98925_Samsung_Galaxy_S6_G920f_Debrand_Pack.html
The o2 refresh deals actively encourage you to pay off early so what we are doing in this thread is not breaking any t&cs
Some people in this thread just over complicating things just for the sake of it
I then called 202 and asked to cancel the airtime and pay for the phone. I was pressed on why I want to leave, quite hard to be honest. Eventually I had to tell the adviser "can I just pay the phone off please?" He is obviously paid to keep people with o2; but he was a bit pushy and seemed to know what I was up to. Who cares? An S6 unlocked for that price?
So I wait for the unlock code - but otherwise, all went very smoothly.
Are you not supposed to unlock first and then cancel? Or can you do one after another?
Online chat are saying I need to have the sim in the phone for 24 hours before they can unlock it...
But if I have the sim in for 24 hours....won't I have to pay the first month of airtime?
Online chat are saying I need to have the sim in the phone for 24 hours before they can unlock it...
But if I have the sim in for 24 hours....won't I have to pay the first month of airtime?
Do I need to wait for a while?
I called 202 and only asked to pay off device.
I will cancel in a couple of days, so not at the same time as paying off the device, as I've been told it minimizes the risk of being charged for the whole airtime contract.
at around 2 checked online chat again to make sure all went through and nada the guy had done nothing after being transfered from left to right i finally was told it was ordered but i had to out in the monthly sim or so i was told. as soon as the sim went in data activated and went to 2.99gb instead of 3gb. so onlince chat again explained everything and was told that if i cancel within 14 days even if i was to make sone calls and use data i wouldnt be charged BUT and heres the big but if i cancel i must return phone. i explained i would pay off device i was then told that if that was the case to terminate the cobtract i would need to give at least 30 days notice.
please can someone confirm that this isbt the case i had a feeling mine would be a nightmare and its turning out like that also unock code apparently can take 10 days!!!
My O2 SIM also went down to 2.99GB but when I called to cancel all went through very smoothly. Phone now unlocked and SIM dead - contract and Direct Debit both cancelled.

You might need to call back and speak to someone who actually has a clue. Also, if you bought online, you can't go to a shop to return the stuff, so it's obvious you spoke to someone incompetent
Why do we need to wait 60 days to cancel direct debit?
Anyone had any experience with that and getting the deposit back?
£19.99 + £10 a month for the phone = £259. Not a 24 month contract so can take it out, pay the remaining 240 and cancel the contract.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong?
If you want 64GB in white ring stores as o2 discontinued white 64GB.
Sell it before 2 years!
My fiancee needed a new phone - I had her do this deal, it's awesome.
Do you think it'll be possible for me to ring up and cancel for her, with all of her info .etc? She's capable, but I'll be able to go to town with them properly if they gave me any aggro.
7) Enjoy phone!
do you have to make the call/text from the new contract O2 SIM you'll get, or any O2 SIM you put into the phone?
I guess the new one to "activate" it, but just making sure.
Call 202 listen for around 30 seconds and hang up.
Take sim card out if worried about data use or switch phone off.
thanks guys
is that even possible? if so didn't know that lol
Samsung Galaxy S6 After 2 Months
I purchased a white 64GB instore. Went to buy another white 64GB from another store and credit rating failed.
This morning my wife tried to get the 64GB and the credit rating failed.
I have had an inpeccible credit rating score. I really do not know why o2 suddenly rejects my applications.
Was advised that would have to pay the first month line rental for the device though and there was no way around this....
Initiated chat again today after dialing 202 twice, guru said have to make a couple of calls at least before she can unlock. Her response below.
"You need to call on normal numbers just once or twice and then need to keep the sim card for another 24 hours so that the IMEI gets registered with the network and then only the unlcoking will be processed."
Without calling any number, the unlock failed on another handset.
Left the sim in the phone for an hour max.
These O2 advisers/gurus are telling you lies
Thanks.
if i dont get unlock in next 24hours going to cancel airtime, i do have a screenprint to say that ypu shouldnt be charged anything even if you use some data or even calls.
Are they things that can be uninstalled? Or atleast disabled?
Thanks.
been nearly 24 hours, done this via live chat and online, the device was registered.
can this be followed up if the air plan has been cancelled?
Might have to risk my luck without a case for a few days though until I order one :o/
thanks op and everyone for their assistance
I've yet to go through the process myself so hopefully no roadblocks like this.
She certainly didn't mention anything about having to give notice etc
EDIT I saw my final bill is £1.54 for the one day I had the airtime active. Seems like no nasty surprises. I have cancelled the direct debits though so I think I will have to call again to pay that.
Also once cancelled, did you receive confirmation via email?
Or can you request it, cancel airtime and put new sim in?
All done and dusted, picked up in-store and followed instructions on here. Only issue I had was that I needed to have a call answered to request the unlock code and 202 didn't do it (so called my other o2 phone).
Requested unlock and cancelled using live chat, seperate conversations.
is that correct?
May be forced to get a case for this one :o( )
my battery is playing up already. charged yesterday to 60% switched off and today it's flat.
She told me that the warranty always lays with the manufacturer.
Pretty sure though, that we should be covered for 2 years with the point of sale being O2.
Fingers crossed mine is OK. I got some swishing noises when ringing 2020 to cancel. wasnt sure if it was bad O2 reception or the music play back with interference thier end. Hopefully I get no surprises.
Took out online sunday, picked up from store monday, unlocked phone yesterday and cancelled today. Was told i Would have to pay £240 for handset and £21 for the 1st month, which will come out direct debit on due date, but then get refunded part of the £21 i didnt use??
So looks like it works but the final price all depends on how quick you get it unlocked and cancelled i guess??
Got asked why id want to take out credit agreement and then pay it off straight away and not return phone aswell lol
Do you have to get email conformation that phone is unlocked?
Just eager to reset phone and get Three sim in as i skipped all options on first boot to get started and want to start again with Three sim inside.
Hopefully copying over data won't be a chore. I did get the Data transfer kit from Samsung for £0.01 when ordering the device. But on setup it did offer me to tap the back with my old phopne to transfer details over. Hopefully I will enjoy the S6 as I did love my Nexus 5. Though S6 doesn't feel as comfortable in 1 hand at the moment.
I see I've been billed only £1.54 for the day I had the airtime active
I thought you had to learn to read before you learn to write?
didn't unlock but don't care as I'm on O2 anyway and my work can get unlock codes for any phone through our O2 business account!
But with large call centres staff turn over is quite big, so probably alot of inexperienced advisors too.
If I already have another O2 sim, can I unlock the phone with that instead? In that case, how quickly could I cancel the airtime?
(will keep my Nexus for a month just in case though)
i have just been on the online chat and the adviser states i have to pay an early cancellation charge which i have made them aware is complete nonsense as i have 14 days to cancel the agreement. the charge was £438.
i then contacted 202 and they advise the charge will be a months charge as i have to give 30 days notice! again i have re-iterated the 14 days agreement but to a point where they are requesting the phone back if ti wish to cancel within this period even through the device was paid for.
i pointed them toward the 30 days notice takes place after the 14 days but they are confident of their clam.....
i'll also get back on chat!
good job i have kept all transcripts. lets see how the chat with the CEO goes!
Many thanks
i have finally received another confirmation that this will be cancelled without charge in 24 hours after the assistant saying i would need to send the phone back lol and then in would be refunded even though i paid.... so i basically told him straight, paid device which im entitled to do, now i want to keep the device and cancel the airtime within 14 day cooling off period if this isnt done i want to speak to o2 managment and will take to trading standards.
Say you're not getting 4G or that you have found a better deal elsewhere (which is what I said)
i tried to cancel via chat, told me to call 202 and pay off the device first. will do that tomorrow.
so far it seems very smooth.
"I have checked the bill is incorrect and I will arrange it to be nullified for you as you have paid the device plan so you are not supposed to be charged airtime."
Why do they make such mistakes? On the hope people will not realise?
Off to check and see....
I also phoned my bank and cancelled the direct debit.
Also online order for store pick-up means returns have to be processed online, not in-store.
arrive within 5mins and phone is unlocked.
paid for the device. £240.
Online chatting to cancel airtime but they refusing to budge and asking to send it all back!!! what do I do?
Is it:
1. Activate SIM
2. Ring 202 and pay off phone plan
3. Use the online form to request unlock code
4. Contact O2 on chat and exercise my 14 day right to cancel
Then done live chat to request phone to be unlocked. Was very quick.
called to pay device plan and cancelled airtime by live chat again. Confirmed again that its cancelled and saved the chat transcripts.
All sorted. Cheers op
Not impressed by O2 so far on this.
Honestly - we've tried ringing so many times. I can't believe how useless they've been so far.
Nice and easy - thanks all!.
Looks like the staff at O2 are so in need of further training. For some it's been smooth sailing for others repetitive calls
can you pay for the handset online or does it have to be over the phone?
I requested it at 10.50 but still haven't recieved it yet
if everyone on hukd got it within a couple of hours then why haven't i got mine within a couple of hours?
May have to get the solicitors ready!
can i cancel yet or do i need to wait for the unlock code to arrive first??
We can actually use the air time for any amount of time before canceling, apparently, as part of the O2 refresh contract, just easier to do in the first 14 days I guess.
What a palava
-Ordered gold s6 32gb
-Next day 1 PM phone received.
- Did not put sim. Immediately called up O2 on landline number ( noted down my phone number from online O2 account). 3 PM, device settled for £240 and closed the airtime account in single call.
- 5 PM, requested unlock code via web chat.
- 3 PM next day, unlocking done.
Have you rooted your s6?
What are people doing? Keep direct debit and wait for a refund? Cancel direct debit and hope for the best? I don't want a black mark on my credit rating agency file.
Good luck!
DOH
I've received a letter yesterday confirming my device was paid off on 31st December.
EDIT: Just seen two O2 direct debits setup as of today, both now cancelled
Should I cancel the airtime anyway....I've only called 202....or should I wait for unlock code.
Was meant to arrive today but they said they haven't received it and the online help just said wait for a text from the store
She did say I'd be charged a days worth of line rental even though I hadn't used it so we shall see.
All in all a painless experience for me.
I logged on to O2 chat to cancel airtime/contract.... I was past from one person to another......over 40min later.... I was finally passed on to a man..... Who seemed to know what he was doing.... Let's wait and see what the bills says.....
*** Thank you Rodman for taking the time to post this deal.....***
Who knows?
Thanks.
If it's normal I'll probably just cancel the swap...
as the device cost will total £360
I don't ask on live chat because as this thread demonstrates - half of the advisors have no idea how refresh works haha. Better to tap into the hukd collective hive mind instead to see if anyone else has had experience.
This should give people confidence that the direct debit will not be taken by O2 and that it is safe to cancel.
thanks @rodman for posting such an awesome deal
The speed to refresh T&C's seem to confirm that:
http://www.o2.co.uk/termsandconditions/rewards/speed-to-refresh
Probably tomorrow or Monday I'll call them to cancel the airtime.
One step at a time!
I have disabled a lot of stuff but still it's pretty bad. Thanks a lot
I've seen people mention £240, if so how do you get it down to this price?
O2 reckons today is last day for savings, I doubt it.
No more O2 logo while booting the phone.
I would recommend doing the two things separately to avoid them charging you incorrectly but nothing stops you from paying off the device and cancelling in the same call.

I have had £420.33 taken out of my account today! So peeved right now!
Spoke to a further 2 advisors on chat (luckily I have taken photos of conversations) both said takes a few days to apply and I would pay zero. I pointed out that my bill said £420.33 and the -£418.18 was on next months bill, not the right amount and should be this month.
I was again assured I wouldn't be charged anything and told I would pay 'zero'.
Just as feared.... £420.33 taken from my account today!!
Despite this I was recently notified by Noddle of a new entry on my credit file which revealed all clear:
I will contact O2 tomorrow.
Im having the black version.
I think it's all down to whether or not you can live with it at the end of the day ^_^
Can people confirm why they're having to cancel any direct debits??
I followed all the steps in doing the deal, and checked with livechat that they'd cancelled it all. Why do I then need to look at Direct debits?
Thank you
After checking he gave me a new replacement device.
I wanted another colour than black but they refused as it's only a replacement and they can't change the colour.
The home button in new phone looks good for NOW!
Thanks for your help.
Please don't throw away your sim after cancellation of the contract.. It might help you later..
Thanks guys.
So worth keeping an eye on your account even if the DD's cancelled...
Good luck.
A memo has gone-out internally as customer service agents are failing to tick the 'Waive Early Termination Fee' box when handling cancellations of the airtime agreements.
Bad service all-round from O2. :disappointed:
