This is a dashcam for people who like to fiddle about with things. It's very small indeed, only slightly bigger than a packet of Tictacs. There are many fake Mobius cams being sold on ebay so you're best to stick with a reliable vendor such as Banggood.
1. It is preferable to have a very small camera that will not be too noticeable from outside. If you have to keep removing it when you leave the car you'll not use it.
2. Park mode is probably not as useful as you would think and can drain your car battery.
3. Dashcam batteries may not last long due to the constant charging & recharging and exposure to excess heat in the car. A dashcam with a super capacitor instead of a battery is a much better idea.
4. Wifi on a dashcam is a useless gimmick.
5. GPS on a dashcam is a double-edged sword - it's maybe a nice feature to have but if your footage shows your insurance company you were doing 32mph in a 30mph zone it'll all be your fault in their eyes.

Can you link us to your camera? Mobius records in Full HD 1080p with 30fps or 720p at 60fps and has quite good video quality in low light conditions.
GPS seems like a pointless thing to me on a dashcam.

The deal was on some time ago, not available any more. Video quality is certainly important, but a GPS function is not pointless. As I say, it records your speed and map coordinates on the video (text on the bottom of the screen), which is a very useful addition to the video footage should you need to use it in evidence. Using the application that came with my camera, when I view the videos on my computer it shows me my position and progress on a map as the video plays. I have another cheaper dash camera without this feature that I use in my other car. It has good pictures but is missing the GPS info so you cannot accompany your visuals with evidence about where you were and how fast you were going.

4 Dec 151#16
No, it's produced as an action cam, it just happens to be very good as a dashcam and the holder with industry standard tripod mount it comes with gives you endless opportunities.
You can buy it elsewhere for a fair bit more as a bundle with bits creating a dashcam kit if you care as little about mounting it as most dedicated dashcam manufacturers do. Equally, it doesn't come with one of those crappy fag lighter power supplys, if you want that there's load available, I personally use a hardwired supply so again appreciate not having to pay for something I don't need. Like I said before, it's designed as an action cam and they would tend to be used on the internal battery power.

This is a modified helmet mount glued to the holder that comes with it in my car, (first picture was the wife's) it's stuck to the plastic surround behind rear view mirror that's around the rain and light sensors.

I still don't see why you think it is an actual advantage that you are forced to shop for, source and pay for a mount separately. It has been posted as a dashcam. Most dashcams come with mounts included, suitable appropriate mounts, at no extra cost. That this one doesn't is not a "good thing" but a drawback. Posted as a dashcam deal, the OP should have included a link to a good mount and should have included the price of the mount in the total deal price. Otherwise the comparison with other dashcams is not complete. I have merely called attention to the extra expense and inconvenience.
rporteo
4 Dec 15#22
Look at the mounts on the photos I've posted and how neat and unobtrusive they are, most purpose made dashcam mounts are huge suction mounts and take up half your windscreen.

4 Dec 151#23
I've had a Mobius for over a year now. It's a good bit of kit for the price, I originally bought it for FPV on my Quadcopter but also use it for recording my RC Car races (velcro'd under my baseball cap)
The developer has offered awesome support by constantly adding impressive new features & fixing any bugs, which are backed up by a great Windows program to adjust every aspect of the settings. You do ideally need to plug it into a Windows PC to change settings/update firmware (not sure how many future updates there will be from now as its very stable & feature packed) you can use an Android app to update too, but may not be right upto date.
It can be used as a dashcam, it has all the main features of dashcams like recording in segments and overwriting the oldest clips & instant record when the ignition is turned on etc. May not be applicable to 99% of the time in the UK but they do get quite warm, hence the metal heatsinks. Could possibly get too hot if exposed to direct sunlight in a hot car.
The extra amounts are REALLY cheap, like £3 for a suction mount, or sticky mount, plus lots of other ones more designed for action cameras.

Where did I say I'd glued them to the interior?? I've used 3m double sided tape to attach them to the interior! The glue is to attach the home made mounts to the holder that comes with the mobiusbas I already said TWICE! With the comments you've said, if I were you I'd continue using the huge suction mounts and stick them right in the middle of your screen with the cable dangling to the cig lighter!
LongPockets
4 Dec 15#34
Yes, you said glued twice, then you said "stuck to" without specifying how they were stuck or mentioning double sided tape. All that anyone need do to emulate your DIY system, provided they possess the skill, is to buy a pack of laminate flooring to get the "chocks", plus glue and double sided tape and maybe tools.
I'm happy with the purpose made suction mounts that came at no extra cost with my cameras, and don't regard their inclusion as some kind of terrible drawback. The cable routing problem is of course the same whatever the mount. I tuck the cable behind the trim.

4 Dec 15#42
Just to add my two cents - mobius as a dash cam is a way safer, because in case of an accident anything you have sucked to your windscreen may be sent flying, or you may hit it yourself.
It is less likely to happen if you securely fix your mobius behind the rearview mirror.
PS I have changed the title to stop people getting butthurt it's not a "proper" dashcam.
LongPockets to archarius
4 Dec 15#45
Sensible to have made the change, even at this late instance. However, I don't think it is reasonable to insult people who have noted the limitations of this item when used as a dashcam. Comments about the item are not an attack on you, even when you do not agree with them.

I have a pretty good idea, from context. And of course I am very old, so the odds are with me on this one.
I'm just putting relevant points about missing features which you seem desperate to conceal or minimize. I have already made my choices of cameras and do not want a product at this time.
Again with the insults. It does nothing to diminish me.
I have every right to comment in this forum, and my understanding is apparently more comprehensive than your own.
The screen is helpful in aiming the camera on installation and, if the camera had features common to other dashcams, would make it possible to change the settings of those features without removing the camera from the car and connecting it to a computer. That you don't think this is necessary is fine, for you. I mention it so that others to whom it may be important will not be carried away by your enthusiastic endorsement without realising the limitations.
pghstochaj
4 Dec 151#44
Having used a möbius as a dashcam for 18 months I can confirm it is brilliant - it's small and hidden. If you want a screen etc then you will need something more visible which isn't a good thing. Will see if I can find pictures of my installation.
LongPockets
4 Dec 15#46
I have seen dashcams with screens that are almost as small. The screens are in fact smaller than I personally prefer, but the size allows them to be placed behind the car's mirror, for those who feel it is important. These small cameras also have GPS and other dashcam features that this camera does not. If you don't care about the features of a purpose designed dashboard camera, then you can certainly get by with a makeshift, but it makes no sense to decry the omitted features and mounts as a detraction and claim that their absence is a good thing.

My posts have pointed out what is missing from the features one might get from purpose-built dashcams, often at a similar price. This is not designed as a dashcam, so is missing some features, even an appropriate mount, which is why it is a makeshift in that usage.

Hi guys
I'm quite interested in cheap dash cam (and maybe getting one for the stepfather). Do any of them run on batteries and for how long. I don't really fancy the idea of cables hanging down here and there and would rather charge it if possible.
I think there is an option to hardwire these but I don't think I'd do that myself but in the short term a battery option would do

I'm not sure if any dashcams have high capacity batteries (other than the super capacitor option of the mobius) as that's what you'd need if you needed it to run on batteries for any great length of time, they would also be pretty big too, think about a camcorder and the length of time the big batteries last on one. Hard wiring really isn't as hard/complicated a job as you'd think, have a look at some of the links Chris posted above especially the add-a-circuit adaptor (these are also known as add-a-fuse. There's plenty of guides on the internet that'll show you what to do and if you know where your internal fuse box is on your car you're more than half way there. As said and you can see by the previous posts, the mobius isn't for everyone, but if you are looking for a very discreet camera that you can hardly see from outside this is the one. The whole point of it for me and more importantly the ones that's installed on my wife's car is the fact if she is in a bump and the other person is disputing anything or blaming her, she swaps insurance details (without telling the other person about the camera in case they try to grab it to get rid of any evidence) and then the footage goes to the insurance company and then possibly onto the police.

There is a handy Windows setup utility
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showpost.php?p=25178932&postcount=6 to adjust the settings.
You can also use their Android app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=therau2000.amcamobiusac to do the same, all you need is a 99p OTG cable and you can set it up with your phone or tablet.
The Dashcamtalk forum
https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/threads/mobius-support-thread-and-tech-guide-post-all-problems-help-requests-here-read-posts-1-8-first.4232/ is an excellent source of help & support.
You will need a few other bits & pieces to use it as a dashcam:

That is super quick delivery from there European warehouse..Wow
Just running through a few of the settings, this thing is so easy to update and setup, almost like your being spoonfed..
All done updated to latest firmware and by luck happened to find an old class 4 Kingston 32GB micro SD card in my camera bag, works a treat, image quality is brilliant and the transition when going from light to dark areas is almost seamless, must be a good sensor in this little camera..
Just waiting for the hardwire kit and mount from the other thread now!

That's it say behind the rear view mirror of a Tiguan
GPS seems like a pointless thing to me on a dashcam.
Thing with these is with a bit of care they are very discreet to install, very good day and night video quality and cheap enough not to worry about leaving in the car.
They should be a fit and forget item but there when you really need it.
It's a homemade mount using the chocks you get in a laminate flooring kit as the angle was spot on, it's again glued to the holder that's supplied with the camera
Perhaps it should've been said up front that this is a camera that is ideal for those who like creating a solution personal to them, if you want a quick and easy monstrosity hanging from your windscreen perhaps look elsewhere.
Still need to hardwire it, thats my job for this weekend weather allowing
Anyone have any links to any decent windscreen mounts?
THANKS!
I'm happy with the purpose made suction mounts that came at no extra cost with my cameras, and don't regard their inclusion as some kind of terrible drawback. The cable routing problem is of course the same whatever the mount. I tuck the cable behind the trim.
looks good and potentially neat but needs extra work
definitely a good price and so a hot deal but users need to be aware they need more than just the mobius to use it well and they should be free to say so without someone aggressively poo-pooing their perfectly valid points.
As for your insults, I am considerable older than you. This is obvious from your juvenile attempts to silence someone who is saying something you don't want to hear. When you have been around a bit longer you will learn that you are not in control of other peoples' comments.
I'd been waiting for you to mention the lack of an unnecessary screen
It is less likely to happen if you securely fix your mobius behind the rearview mirror.
PS I have changed the title to stop people getting butthurt it's not a "proper" dashcam.
I just wanted it to be hidden. No other devices at the time were available that met that. Having a tiny screen is a hilarious idea.
What for? I want the camera to record only.
I couldn't find anything so subtle and hidden elsewhere. It's invisible from the driver's seat and from outside - it just looks like another sensor.

This is a dashcam for people who like to fiddle about with things. It's very small indeed, only slightly bigger than a packet of Tictacs. There are many fake Mobius cams being sold on ebay so you're best to stick with a reliable vendor such as Banggood.
For anyone looking to buy a dashcam I recommend watching Techmoan's excellent reviews on Youtube https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFB79814F24001328 - especially the "Beginners Guide to Dashcams".
After a lot of research I decided:

They fit in the headliner, down the A-pillar, in the door rubber, under the passenger side footwell, then centre console trim to cigarette lighter.
Fitted them to my old Land Rover, the Jag & a mates Leon - all exactly the same way (takes about 2 mins).
Their small size makes them much much more versatile, so long as you are willing to do some modifications.
I've got some test footage too:

Despite the heat, I've read good things on reliability for the Mobius.
Not for the tech noob, you need to be happy with configuring stuff without much help, but if that's you this is a great cam.
Ordered the mount that someone posted to aswell here for 99p
Top quality for peanuts imo a no-brainer
If you didn't want it to overwrite old files would you need to totally stop it recording?
E.g. You film for 1 hour, want to keep the first 5mins, then record over the rest, not at a PC.
32GB Card = 4 hours 30 mins., 16GB Card = 2 hours 15 mins., 8GB Card = 1 hour 7 mins., 4GB Card = 33 mins.
