The Surface 3 is the ONLY tablet I'd upgrade to from my Asus T100. It does everything that I think a tablet should do....and it recharges by USB. A big improvement on the Surface Pro 3 line where you have to lug around a proprietary power pack.
One of these days I'll invest in a Surface 3 :smiley:

People have no idea. It's a shame. I do video editing on my Surface3. It really is a desktop/laptop replacement with an everlasting battery.

Bear in mind when buying, this is the slower Surface 3 running the Atom x7 processor, not a Surface Pro 3
Update: Note which OS is installed too, some come with Window 8.1 installed, while newer stock have Windows 10 (Microsoft Website £377 with 10). With the smaller 64GB of disk space, you may have issues upgrading older stock to 10.

64GB is plenty of space to upgrade to Windows 10, I've upgraded both my nephew and neices tablets and they had 32GB so 64GB is ample space, unless MS have filled the tablet up with loads of Bloatware.

Should have no problems updating,have a 64Gb drive and am on developer build update.The other week M/S updated system to R2 build with no problems.
Just remember to get rid of old system files which add up to several Gb's by...
Pc properties -Disk clean up then on clean up system files,that gets rid off them.

Well playing a 1080p video is a simple task in computer terms so like i said, this would be fine for general simple tasks eg, browsing, email, music, playing movies. Crunching data, encoding, audio/visual work is cpu intensive and this is when you need a i5/i7, the Pro version .

I don't know why people think the X7 is for 'simple tasks'. Even my Z3740 Baytrail Atom renders 1080p video without much fuss.
Here's what the Surface 3 can do with its hugely improved processor;
just as well they're reliable because they're very difficult to repair, so I would advise getting an extended warranty or ensure they're covered under some other insurance policy.
All my electronics items are covered by Amazon Essentials.

Hot deal but I'm struggling to find out how well this specific model will handle Steam...like, most recent footie manager, Rocket League, retro point and click games etc. Wouldnt expect Fallout 4 but any help?
I'm not a gamer, but I wouldn't expect this to cope brilliantly. This competes directly with the iPad and Android tablets and is really more geared for mobile games from the Windows Store.

Have this, love it. Massively recommend the 4GB ram version. 2gb of RAM is absolutely pitiful and I had to return my 2Gb ram version same day. 4gb version has been running for a few months and I love it
You can also get the surface 4 pen and keyboard for this which are even better than the ones you get for 3.

I have the 4Gb/128gb version and love it. This is a great price, although the Type Cover (extra £109) is really a must. I need (and use) the pen, too, which is another £45.
The Surface Pro 4 keyboard won't fit. It'll attach and function, but the cover will be too large (Pro 4 is 12.3", this is 10.8"). Also, the magnetic strip on the pen will have nowhere to attach to the Surface 3 (unless you stick some magnetic tape on, I guess). It will also be restricted to 256 levels of pressure sensitivity, unlike the 1024 capable on the Pro 4.

Yeah Base Windows 10 install is like 15gb in my experience once you disable hibernation and the page file. Plenty of room. Then an sd card for storage and you are fine. Good deal!

lol you are NOT going to have issues upgrading to 10 with a 64GB drive, assuming the first thing you do is upgrade it there will be plenty of room.
Add an sd card then move all your libraries to that which will help prevent running out of space. There are devices with 16GB drives that have upgraded fine 64gb is pretty roomy tbh

You can upgrade devices with only 16gb, so you are not going to have issues with a brand new 64gb device.

These get pricey when you start to add accesories (keyboard), or choose the 4GB, 128GB mSATA version.
It was very poorly positioned and marketed by Microsoft.
By that, it should have used a Core-M, the typical price gouging on the memory/disks/keyboards killed it. Microsoft marketing at its worse, engineering wise, its nice, but does nothing a HP Stream 11 doesn't do, really.
You were soon in Surface Pro territory too, once you added upgrade/accessory options.

Yeah, it's astonishing how little the parts on this thing actually cost. The processor is only $35!
Beware that the OP photo is a bit misleading here (as is the case with almost all photos I see of Surface/Surface Pros) - the keyboard - aka "Type Cover" - is an expensive optional extra at 109 quid. Now if there was a bundle with the keyboard for another 50 quid, that would be a deal actually worth thinking about...
