People need to stop the fearmongering, so a guy posted on Reddit about motherboard problems that CAN, and I use the word loosely cause the phone to boot loop, but if that stops you buying a phone with this spec, literally one of the top 10 phones in the world and the best deal this side of 2015 with a years warranty then you're mad.

Any phone can have a fault on it, but this isn't a second hand phone off Ebay that if it goes wrong you're done for, you can just take it into the shop and have it replaced or fixed, so stop worrying about 506, 508, 510 and go out and buy it, otherwise you'll just be on here tomorrow looking at the next **** phone deal, and the day after, and day after that wishing you'd of bought this phone when you had the chance.

Vodafone offer two years. Two years is also the EU minimum.

It's 12 months according to LG's support site.

I'm pretty sure it's a two year warranty so you should be fine.

Mine did the same so I rang LG & they figured they hadn't put a unlocked motherboard in so arranged 2 have it picked up again & 4 them 2 put a unlocked motherboard in but after a few day I put simcard in again & it worked so cancelled the pick up..

Sent mine off at weekend and came back today. New board but relocked to Vodafone!

Still waiting for my phone to be returned by LG. They said it was ready monday but 'delays in the packaging department'

I also have this issue where the wifi will say it connected but there is no actual internet connection. Sometimes it recovers after a minute or two other times I have to disconnect wifi and reconnect. I have found it seems to be slightly better by going into Developer Options and enabling the "Use legacy DHCP Client" option. It still happens but not as often.

Now received my LG G4 back from repair by LG. Phone was picked up last Tuesday and returned this Tuesday so a 1 week turn around. Old phone serial number started with a 506, phone now returned starts with 608. Sheet with phone says main board has been replaced. Old phone was still on Android Lollipop, new one has Marshmallow already on it. Apart from initial issues in getting phone picked up I am fairly pleased with the support from LG. Phone seems to be working perfectly so far.

Vodafone sent it to their own engineers to deal with who'd been trained by LG. Cosmetic damage to the phone apparently voids my warranty. Balls.

I called up American Express instead and I'm going through their dispute process. They've already put the money back onto my card and said it might take around 4 weeks. They said they'll handle it from here and if Vodafone enquire to just point them in American Express' direction.

If LG repair or replace with another G4 it'll still die, so I'd rather just have a refund at this point. Girl on the phone couldn't believe Vodafone wouldn't touch it. Phones are going to get marks on them.

Phone up LG and deal with them directly. They should sort it.

However Vodafone should have sent it off to LG for repair in the first instance.

So Vodafone refused to fix my phone after it got the bootloop because there was scuffs around the USB port and a small crack near the edge of the camera glass. I am less than impressed.

Purchased the nexus 5x, no problems and software up to date . Prefer the speakers and camera on th let G4 though.

I was tempted to go into the Vodafone store and try to get a refund as they knowingly sold a faulty product. LG admitted the issue in October / November last year, yet phones with the faulty motherboards were being sold 4 months later and I certainly had to wait for it to come back into stock.

Couldn't be bothered in the end, someone else should try and let us know!

It's going on eBay as I used the bootloop as an excuse to purchase a new phone! Plus I don't want the same thing to happen again! As had to use the freezer trick to retrieve the data!

You need to phone them up! I don't think the email form goes anywhere! Put 2 through and had nothing so phoned them up and was fixed within 3 weeks.

Yep - tried fixing it myself by flashing a fresh os on it and completely factory wiping it, but the freezer trick confirms it's the motherboard that's screwed. Being collected in a couple of days

I did the same, reported a repair on their website but received no contact what so ever. Ended up phoning their customer support (number 0344 847 5454). I had to request a call back though as all lines were always busy. Took 24 hours for the call back but managed to arrange collection of device for repair.

Who did you contact to get your LG fixed? I have tried the Repair service on the LG website and had no response.

I would be careful with the heat issue. The heat on mine seemed to get worse and worse around 4-6 weeks before it finally got the bootloop issue last week.

EE network went down last week & since then i cant get no phone or data signal on my G4,can't even put apn settings in manually,wifi works ok,tried factory reset,sim card works ok in other phone..

since Xmas ,i haven't had any issue with my lg g4, apart from bloody battery draining,and heat,

So are you saying that at all times your phone is totally backed up ie pictures you taken that day or contacts you added etc.

If you pull the battery on the phone and look at the first three serial numbers you will probably see something in the range from 505 - 509. But since then it seems 510+ can be affected as well.
Same here and mine got stuck a few months ago no warning just got stuck in the middle of st pancras station one night one minute working fine then it just got stuck and the battery getting hotter and hotter as it tried to reboot itself luckily i was able to remove the battery in the end and it had to go away to get repaired for a week Hopefully it wont happen to her but just have a look online and better to be prepared for the worst.Because anything will be lost pictures etc.As long as she backs it up very regularly.

My partner bought one and she hasn't had any issues with it at all. It was an 815 model. It has been flawless.

Wasn't that for the older revisions I thought the H815 versions had fixed that motherboard issue.

Problem: Since upgrading to Marshmallow I found that the wifi was very dodgy. It would connect and work for a while but randomly show an exclamation mark over the wifi symbol and loose internet connectivity even though it was still saying connected to wifi. If left it would sometimes recover after a minute or so or usually a disconnect/reconnect would solve it. Very annoying and very frustrating.

Solution : It seems that Marshmallow introduced a new DHCP client and this seems to be at the root of the issue. The "fix" is to enable Developer options (7 taps on the "Build Number" under "General\About Phone\Software info" menu) and then enable the "Use legacy DHCP Client" option under the "General/Developer Options" menu. Since doing this my wifi connection has been rock solid. Hope that helps others.

I too ditched it for giffgaff which worked immediately. The 4G on GG was shockingly slow though so I'm now with Life Mobile. Only 3G with them but their speed is faster than my old Three 4G so a happy bunny in the end.

Standard Android screenshot is accomplished by holding down both the power button and the volume down button at the same time . You need to hold then about a second. It's actually a bit difficult on the LG G4 because of the button arrangement and them being on the back of the phone rather than the side.

battery comparison for both is
the ultra 6 battery last couple of hours longer with normal use or u can watch 2 movies out of one charge where lg may be one and a half movie
but lg battery charges much quicker than ultra 6 so if u are planning on buying a spare lg dock n battery from amazon or ebuyer for 20 than lg is def a better buy only in regards of battery I'm talking

Picked up mine over the weekend. Immediately upgraded to Marshmallow and unlocked it with a code from eBay. I must say it feels a lot slimmer than the Moto G (v2) that I was previously using, almost too thin for me but I'm sure I'll get used to it. I'm not so keen on LG's interpretation of Android UI so I've installed Google Now launcher instead although I still have LG's very square icons on the start bar for Contacts, Phone etc. Initially with nothing else installed and just left dozing for a day the battery estimate was something ridiculous like 300hours. Now I have linked it to my Google account and have apps installed and so far it's been off charge for 3 hours this morning and is estimating 60hrs usage remaining , although I've only turn it on twice in those 3 hours to check messages so hardly heavy usage.

There were 2 available in Edinburgh this afternoon. Bought one, 1 still left to be converted into Pay As You Go for £235.

I have my 3 sim working fine for calls, texts and internet in my G4. I just used it from previous phone, an iphone 4. It was a contract sim if that makes any difference?!

It does come with some; namely the vodafone logo screen on start-up, and you will get quite a few of the vodafone apps pre installed but you can delete them from the phone easily, bar the vodafone "update" one with the red i in the speech mark. That one I have not figured out how to remove yet as you can't seem to be able to delete it easily.
Does anyone know how to remove said update app easily (without rooting the phone or using a different s/w package)?

Hmm so the phone is capable then. I tried 2 sims without any change so I'm thinking a phone issue. It was a number port to the sim....whether this screwed up somehow?

I think I might try one of the generic system software from XDA and take the vodafone one off, see if that cures it :-(

I tried both sims which both react the same way;
sms and data both send and receive but voice calls don't work.

The sims work fine in other mobiles and other sims e.g. O2 work fine in the LG.

Just went into my local store and although they did have stock, they refused to switch it over to payg which was extremely frustrating

512 UNLOCK CONFIRMATION:

CellUnlocker.net successfully returned me an unlock code for my 512 model!

It cost around £5 and took a couple of days due to a Canadian holiday, the first email said that it couldn't be unlocked but they would try a different database. When they tried the other database a working unlock code was returned!

At least you know there is another option now to unlock the 512 if their database still doesn't find yours.

I've already paid cellunlocker.net to unlock my 512 model, so far I've had an email saying it was rejected but they are going to try a different database and to allow an extra working day.

They have great customer service, I used their live chat to ask how the code search was going and they are very friendly. The only thing is that their business day starts at 10am PST, so any communication you do with them will be in late evening and night.

Going back through the original LG G4 Vodafone deal threads this was another unlocking service which worked for some of those with the 511 S/N handsets before the databases of the Ebay sellers had been updated. Costs USD7.99

Yeah it's true, some of the older 512's are in the database. It's just these newer ones that seem not to have made it there yet. y2z told me about 3 weeks and he'd be able to get the codes. (That was last week)

- Battery drained overnight (was 50%)

Got an update for MM yesterday, battery seems much better now. 18% used in last 3 hours with regular use.

Thanks for replying Kevin, there's a few things I dont understand having read through various threads here and on xda, people commenting on updating software to v20b, v20c, v20d (I believe mine is v10, this is in the "About phone menu right?) and by doing so removing the voda splash screen, without rooting. I just don't know how to do all that stuff and what the best version of each software is.

I've also got this docking station & i also bought a fast charger..

Ive got MM and when I did nothing at all with the phone yesterday, over a period of 12hrs I lost around 4% battery life. Using it at all seems to drain the battery. When I checked battery monitor 40% of the drain comes from the screen despite low brightness indoors. I think MM is well worth the upgrade but the real hog is that screen and no software can fix that. QHD Smartphones normally get between 3-5hrs 'screen time'. None of that bothers me in the slightest however as I just stick in the spare battery. Hence why if you are going to buy a QHD phone, you may as well get the G4 over the competition.

I'd also recommend this dock as it charges the phone and a spare battery simultaneously. Its about a tenner from the bay. You should be able to get through moderate to heavy use in a day with no problem.

1/ You can't remove the Splash screen without rooting it
2/ The Jury is out on MM on the G4 - I am sticking with as is for time being. Like others I have lowered the brightness and reduced background refresh to essentials and get OK battery. For example I went to a gig last night in Nottingham and needed Satnav for 30 mins to find my way. I went to the gig took a few photos with flash, shot some video. Did some Facebook, and browsing. Checked my emails. Then used Satnav to get out of Notts to the motorway - say another 20 mins. Checked my social media at home before bed and again this morning. Just checked and I have 28% battery. Last charged at 3:00 pm yesterday.

Hi guys, just got my red leather back (511) on Friday, the phone is great but battery lasts 1 day max currently, hopefully after a few days it will start lasting more as it gets used to my using of the phone. Need some help with a couple of things if anyone can advise:

1)Need to get rid of Voda branding (splash screen & update services/apps) to hopefully improve battery life and performance, how do you do that and is there a risk of bricking the phone?

2)Would you guys suggest upgrading to Marshmellow? Will it improve battery life? And also what's the best way to do that? Will it remove the Voda splash screen and update apps?

Anyone else taking a battery hit with MM6, Android System and Google Play Services? I had a few good days and now Android System and Google Play Services shows high % when looking at battery stats.

My on screen time has drastically dropped also even though use the phone in the same manner daily.

It still better than my previous phone but getting a tad annoyed as a couple of colleagues don't have the issue and get good battery life for similar usage.

unfortunately my phone is going back, tried very hard coming from an IPhone 5 but just cant get used to using Android.

I've also bought this dual charger docking bay for £10 to keep the phone and the spare battery topped up. The battery above has been performing like a champion. It's lunch time and my charge level still stands at 89% on MM.

I'd also highly recommend this bumper for £2.89 (I'd recommend the black). Its fab because it's raised and nicely protects the vulnerable edges and screen from any drops as well and leaving the back exposed so you can still feel the leather back.

It also 'flattens' the back so you can rest if on the table and type on the screen without it wobbling around too much.

After two dud 'compatible 3800maH' batteries I bought a 'genuine LG G4' battery from the bay. It's item number 221830604543 and works great. I've had it for a day and it lasts as long as the original. Its £9.90 and from a London seller. Slip it in your bag and never worry about running out of power. This is definitely a must have for owners of this phone!

I'm getting insanely good battery life on my G4, I've left it on lollipop and turned down the automatic brightness. I also have BT on constantly as it's attached to my pebble time must admit my usage has been quite light but it managed over 80 hours.

Compared to my POS Galaxy S5.

I'm pleased with the battery life. It feels around the same as my 950 XL and is significantly better than my previous Galaxy S4 and S5.

SOOO disappointed with my G4. Battery life is shocking even with everything turned off. Bar the screen and camera quality its no more useful than my smart ultra 6. So I'm returning my lg back to shop today.

Has anyone had any push notification issues? I am having an issue where WhatsApp is hanging. I have to close the app to reboot and then messages come. If I forget to do this then I am not aware of real time messages. I have updated to M6. Could it be that the app is being put to sleep? I have checked WhatsApp so it is ignored for battery optimisation.

my store has finally managed to get 2 in as contracts. I asked over the phone if they can convert them to payg and he refused. he said he would lose his job

Just spoke to LG on Live chat and they confirmed that unlocking the phone using an ebay code WILL VOID the warranty with LG.

So many contradictions about the warranty and unlocking through ebay.

I'm gonna send an email to LG about it so I can hopefully get more of an official response.

Picked mine up yesterday and got unlocked using the link that was on here, even reflashed the rom to get rid of the Vodafone bloatware and splash screen. I've left mine on Lollipop to see how the battery fares before I update to Marshmallow as there's a thread on XDA about battery life after the upgrade.

Getting similar experience. When left alone it lasts a while. When using a fair bit it lasted a day. A majority of the competition seem similar. I still in the early days and discharging to 0% and charging again so hoping it settles down soon.

After a horrendous experience in the Bridgwater store last week, i had a lovely experience in the Taunton store today. I told them what i was after and the guy said, "yes, we don't have any on payg but i'll transfer a pay monthly one over, what colour would you like?"
So just need to read back through now and figure out how to get an unlock code so my son can use a giffgaff sim. I paid cash, so i assume they can't take any money from me?

I have a cover on mine from day one so Im not getting the benefit of the leather back anyway. I have a screen protector on the front and will probably keep a third party leather back on it. When it wears out I'll just replace it. I'll probably keep the red leather back in a box for the purposes of a future re-sale. The only vulnerable part seems to be the chrome rim. I've order a bumper online so that should offer it protection. Not having a case will also keep it thinner and more pocket-able.

Managed to drop mine on a sbop floor yesterday, the damned thing is like bar of soap. Dinted corner of the bezel a touch but otherwise survived - case arriving today, typical!

For those not aware, there's a Marshmallow update waiting for you:

Can anyone recommend a bumper for this phone? I think the leather back and gorilla glass front should hold up well so I just wanted a bumper to go around the edges to protect the metal. At the moment Im using a case dont get to feel the leather back or have it as slim and pocket friendly as it could be.

I have 512 as well. Picked the cheapest unlock offer on eBay. Took them about 20 minutes to email the code. Worked straight away.

Indeed that is strange...I didn't message him beforehand, just bought the code and messaged him the imei and model afterwards and got the unlock code in my email a few minutes later.

Cheers - I'm Vodafone anyway, but obviously flexibility would be a good thing.

I'll check this evening. I'd recommend to not upgrade your phone before you can actually unlock it (just in case...).

This is a little strange though, he's one of 2 sellers i messaged on ebay to understand if they had the capability to unlock 512 devices, he told me that he couldn't?

I have a 512 serial on mine and got my unlock code from this guy on ebay. I have not modded the software on mine, the unlock worked fine with the stock software as loaded on the phone out of the box.

My biggest complaint about this phone is that it rocks when typing on it, when placed on a table. And I don't really want a bulky case to solve that. I may have to get some little rubber pads and attach them to the back!!

I dont think the stock checker is much use, almost all the handsets are set as contract and need converting to payg stock. So it always shows as out of stock.

My G2 is drawing 1.8 Amps from the charger, while the G4 under 1 Amp.

Any idea what is going on? I expected to be the other way around, a newer phone should charge faster.

I also got an issue today where the screen would not auto-turn off, unless I pressed the back button to turn it off manually.

I picked mine up from Braintree Vodafone shop yesterday, the red leather one was reserved and I got the metallic grey. I searched on the Vodafone website and that was the only branch showing any stock. The Sales Assistant told me that they were ordering the contract LG G4 and then transferring the stock over to PAYG.

I have just ordered the Otterbox Commuter Case for it (4th Otterbox Commuter Case), since I have found these to be the best in the past especially the number of times I have dropped the Samsung Note 3.

Priv is a new phone released 2 months ago. Middle eastern prices are already down to £250 sim free. Canada just announced a price drop just the other day. Prices will drop like all other phones- it's only this price because it is new. I do not see any significant reduction in performance in the Priv. And, of course there is the small matter of.... PHYSICAL KEYBOARD!!!

Much more expensive and doesn't perform as well. Not in the same league

Another tip for checking the stock, use mobile browser and check pay monthly stock. It actually tells you how many handsets left in the specific store. Asking and convincing them to convert it to payg is another issue though.

I went to Startford Vodafone asked the CA "can I have LG G4 I spoke to your customer services and they said you have one." CA asked me whether I need it on a contract or payg. I said "I'm not sure I might get it on a contract if you have a good offer, but first check if you have got it. (I would never do a contract though, but saying you might get it on a contract make them feel comission coming their way)

He got the phone, I checked their tarrifs on contract and later said, I would like it on payg.

Then he said I will go and check if we can sell on payg. I said, yes you can convert it to payg. He took good 10 minutes to get back to me. But anyhow at the end I got it. I refused one at edgware road vodafone coz it was 509 I believe.

I got this phone before new year and used it for selfies and it isn't that good for some reason.

The photos come out without any charpness and look like oil paintings. Even if i reduce the slider on the front to the extreme left, still the photos are like oil paintings. If any of your friends have an iphone 6, you should see the selfies that it takes and this one, then you will come to know about the difference.

I am no Apple fan so i am not starting a fight, but just stating what i have observed. I did a lot of digging into the LG G4 manual and forums but others also seem to have it and people just have accepted it.

If anyone knows how to fix this, please let me know :smiley:

I believe he is referring to Knock Code and not double tap. Marshmallow requires now minimum of 6 ( was 4) taps to unlock the phone.

There is no physical or software difference between a phone sold for PAYG vs contract, it's just the sim card.

The change they have to make is an accounting one, and doesn't affect the phone at all.

They may be being arsey, or may have got instructions to not "convert" any more to PAYG.

I would guess a high percentage of these phones end up unlocked on another network, so they probably make more out of selling contracts.

Something is wrong with my G4, it wouldn't receive calls sometimes.
Went to the store to ask for help, the store manager said since it's ordered online from vodafone website I will have to make a call to vodafone to sort this out - however when I called, in order to get through I have to key in a vodafone mobile number which I don't have. Pain in the ass. The online chat on vodafone website wouldn't work either, always busy. This is getting frustrating.

Can confirm knock code feature is available on v20b, which is an ota after LG bridge update. Sd card and internal storage 2 in 1 feature is not adopted though.

If you decide M is lame and want to go back to Lollipop I wouldn't blame you. Currently 20A is in a "late-beta" stage with options missing like Knock Code and the ability to merge sdcard with data. The only gains seem to be Doze, updated Google Now, the ability to choose which permissions apps have access to... and your About Phone settings now saying Android 6.0

Make sure when you buy it either pay by cash so they dont have your card details or insist that they dont put you on a price plan with 'auto top up' each month. Vodafone are very sneaky as this happened to me!

In the store I went into today, they had 5 G4s. 4 of them could be converted to PAYG and they let me choose from them, one of them couldn't be. I don't know what the difference is to be honest.

Just called into Vodafone in the Metrocentre, Newcastle and saw they are still advertising the LG G4 payg for £225 when bought with a £10 top up. I asked the sales guy if the deal is still available and he checked their system and it still is. I've just bought one for £245 refurbished so I'm as sick as a parrot.

The one on display had the red leather back (which I wanted but had to settle for tan leather). It should also be available nationwide.

I reckon that's a pretty good deal. Bring on the naysayers.

Got this phone from the deal posted during the Christmas period, at £225 from Vodafone shop. Didn't even require top up as sales person didn't ask me. What a phone! Software update to marshmallow helped with battery life improvement. Screen and camera are brilliant. Good deal. Hot for me.

just went to Vodafone and only metallic one in stock. the ee shop had leather back one but at a higher price.

Looks quite big and not as slick as the s6. however must have similar specs.

the 64gb s6 on o2 refresh cost £340 + £35 quidco that's £305. the LG would cost about £250 with sd card so not massive amount between them.

but I still wouldn't mind getting an LG to add to my Sammy

The case sits just proud of the screen. So there is some protection for the case to absorb the impact when dropped. I've
got a screen protector which I haven't fitted yet. Haven't been worried but will get round to it.

So very best case scenario for the s6 (where did you even find it for this price?) but pretty much worst case for g4 and memory card then there is still £50 difference...

In reality the difference is much larger. I bought the g4 on this deal £235 plus the integral 128gb card deal that was on here the other day for £25. So total cost £260, s6 is now significantly more expensive at £400 which I can't even find for this price.

Got mine in xmas deal for 225 without top up to replace my lg g2 I got at £150 in the last xmas vodafone sale. Its much better and the camera is very good for a phone particularly if you use manual. The battery life is also not as bad as some reviewers make out.

I'd ignore 'poor' battery life on the first day and look at performance on the 2nd to 3rd day for a more reliable indication of battery life. Coming from an iPhone I found the G2 battery life astounding. I think we've become a little spoilt by that. The G4 has what I consider as 'standard' battery life. I had a similar experience re battery life until I updated the software to marshmallow and it has got better since then. I agree the LG G2 has a better battery life, having also used it myself.

Vodafone still list this online at £225 (but with no stock for delivery) so it is still same deal from before Christmas. If you can find one in a local store lucky you - none showing in the 5 stores near me so I expect for most this will be a goose chase.

Picked up the red leather back instore. Luckily there was a spare silver back provided too in the box. Apparently when checked online stock levels there were none at my local.. thought I'd have a look anyway.. guess what they had LOADS of silver and other colours but I managed to get last red one.
They talked me into buying £20 credit as they gave 50GB 4G data and choice of freebie (Bluetooth speaker/ charger on the go/ selfie stick).

Unlocked using some random on EBay for £3.

Just one word of warning for this shop: If, like with me, they say there is no offer etc ask them to ask the item/check their system , when I went to get mine at first they wanted to sell it to me for 450 since that was the price on display and said that the 225 price was just for blackfriday, had to insist for them to check their pc before they gave up.

Used my wife's Samsung S6 Adaptive Fast charger on my G4 and it only took 55mins to get from 0% to 100%!

I love mine, think it's a bargain at this price.

After owning my G4 for a couple of weeks i am very happy with it over the G2 for my use, having the ability to add extra storage is so important to me as i use the phone to take a ton of photos and i shoot in RAW and also as my music player.

The camera is amazing in manual mode and editing RAW images in snapseed still gives a 16mp resolution jpeg.

The only downside i have found with the G4 is the battery life, i find myself low on battery in the evenings where as the G2 would be ok till the next morning.

If the G2 had had 32GB internal storage i probably would have held on for another year, but i was having to use a 64GB micro usb stick with it, which also really killed the battery on the G2. Also i was finding my G2 slowing down with the apps i had installed and having to restart more and more to clear memory space.

The G2 is still a great phone and if your not a heavy user then there is no need to upgrade, but the G4 in my eyes is superior for what i use it for.

I had a 32Gb LG G2 for over a year and loved it (probably my 2nd favourite phone of all time).

I wish the G4 was a 5.2" FHD screen instead of the 5.5 2K one, and it's a shame the battery life doesn't come close to the G2 but in every other respect I think it's a far superior device in pretty much every way.

Even the 32Gb G2 needed memory management with approx 10Gb of music, 5Gb of apps and 5+ Gb of video/photos etc (and with RAW shooting etc on the G4 it will need a fair amount of space)

I considered (and tried) the O2 Refresh S6 deal, and although I preferred the screen size I didn't like Touchwiz, the WiFi kept dropping and the handset was a slippery fingerprint magnet. It had a more premium feel but my new G4 has 32Gb internal + 64Gb micro SD = 96Gb at a total cost of £235 (plus the SD card that I already owned).

The 64Gb S6 was £115 more for less memory and I was also put off by the non-removeable battery.

My previous LG G2 had a red back like the new G4 has, I'm hoping I like it as much.

I've always bought Samsung Galaxy devices because of the removable battery/SD card slot, but now I can have the storage of a 64GB/128GB S6 for a lot less money.

Animated weather widget definetely still present on G4, at least on Lollipop 5.1 on mine is.
Regarding screen, I prefer the colors of the G2, screen is more vibrant, but G4 is nicer at night, due to lower backlight is easier on the eyes.
My G2 is very slow and laggy, and the 16 gb non expandable memory is a huge handicap.
So the upgrade to the G4 was needed.

If someone manages to produce a decent high capacity battery, the game will change completely, I think. Will see if a higher than 3000mah battery can be squeezed in the slim form factor of the G4

I had an S2 for 3 years until December 2014 so don't mind not having the latest gadget (I'm content with a solid battery, Internet and a decent camera) but appreciate people use the more advanced features more than I do. There is a website where owners chat about the upgrade from G2 to G4. There is not a single positive comment and no one seems to be impressed with an upgrade. First thing I notice is significantly reduced battery life. Whenever I turn screen on I can almost see battery going down. It could be due to power hungry processor, I guess? G2 on kitkat has quite a few nice features but for some reason they have been stripped off in G4. Rectangular screenshot cropping and quick edit, SAMBA, animated weather widget on home and lock screen and a couple of other things I can't remember now. Little things that make your life easer. But in return G4 gives you great camera that supports RAW images. Also screen tone is much cooler on G4. And you won't be able to format sdcard as internal memory on LG version of Marshmallow if that's what you wanted to do. I really enjoy using G2 and still prefer it to my brand new G4.

Coming from an iPhone for me the G2 was a quantum leap. The G4 is a nice refinement with the benefit of a removable battery and MicroSD. If your one the market for a new phone the G4s a decent buy.

I was about the use the trick in post #1231 to transfer my £10 credit to my PSN wallet - except when i hit *#1345# on my keypad it said £0.00... :disappointed:

I rang up customer services 03333 048048 and was advised the store had activated the 'big bundle' plan so there was no actual cash on the account only data and call allowances. After a chat with a nice lady she cancelled the big bundle and converted the cash into £10 credit plus £1 as a gesture of good will. The big bundle deal automatically renews by default. I would urge everyone to check their balances. if it says £0.00 then you're on the BB. So now my balance is £11. I then did the PSN wallet trick to transfer £10 across as a single block with the 12p text charge I have 88p left as a balance. Finally got there!

For anyone else, you should be able to transfer £5 across and be left with a £4.88p balance. You would then pop into a vodafone store and top up 24p so you're back up to £5.12 so you can transfer the other £5 across.

Alternatively you can just top up 12p at the store so you have £10.12 which will be 12p for the text reply to Sony and the £10 you want to transfer across.

I bought the £10 sim then unlocked straight away to go to a different network, presumably I'll need to create a vodafone account and put the top up number details in to see if it's set to auto-renew?

A slight warning to my fellow G4 owners. I was about to bin my Vodafone sim but happened to log into my account online to check any credit balances. It turns out that my account was set to 'auto top up' £10 per month. I turned that off. I paid with my debit card but never agreed to any auto top ups. I wish I had just paid by cash now as I suppose the debit card i used was probably going to be deducted. It might be worth checking your account isnt set to auto top up too if that's not what you want.

I've returned mine because of uneven backlight :disappointed: 512 red leather, unlocked successfully. They don't refund the topup and no more in stock atm unfortunately. great deal though.

The battery seller is based in Manchester and is sending me a free replacement battery. I used my phone sparingly yesterday and my battery drain with the included official battery was 15% over 12hrs. Today Ive used it a little more and it's still at 82% so the phone itself is fine. I'm not sure how well it will fare over heavy use but I'll try my luck again with a new spare battery. Im sure i just got unlucky with the last one. I am very happy with the phone. It's not as mind blowingly awesome as the G2 was at the time but its a fine improvement and meets all my requirements. I think we've reached a point of diminishing returns with phones so I doubt I'll upgrade this until it breaks.

Nope. My unofficial battery is a lemon. My official battery drained 15% over a 9hr day with moderate use. My eBay battery drained 40% in one hour while web browsing on the bus, keeping my phone as hot as a furnace, with no other apps running. Its a dud alright. Im sending it back.

While I cannot see any difference in screen quality.

Well Im somewhat happily puzzled.

My G4 has the official battery in today. 100% this morning before I left for work. I spent about 15 minutes web browsing, took a 10 minute phone call, Ive had notifications of several emails/texts etc but otherwise has been left idle. 4hrs into the day the battery is at 95% with no background apps running.

When it's not being used, there is no significant drain. This is with the offical battery and latest OS updates.

I'll check the stock battery level at the end of the day. On my way home I'll put in the 3800mAh chinese battery which is already at 100% and use it as yesterday for general browsing on my hour long journey home and see how it drains but without spotify. That would eliminate my 40% per hour battery drain problem down to either the Chinese battery or the spotify app.

At least I can rule out general drain from normal use with the stock battery. Other people may have a different experience but its good to compare our uses, apps and batteries so we can rule problems out and assist each other.

I used that unlocker for my 511 in the thread and was done very quick (within about 30 mins or so!).

Anyone recommend a black leather case? Have tried 2 so far, 1 was way to tight i couldn't even get the phone in, and another was way to bulky and 1 side was to loose you can feel it moving about lol.

Only just got mine but charged it yesterday morning and was 100% at 10am and today it's at 33% (that's using it quite a bit for general web browsing not streaming type of stuff). Quite happy with that for such a big screen.

It wouldn't be a surprise if a chinese battery rating means nothing, I would usually expect them to be poor quality and only hold a fraction of the rated capacity.

It usually involves running something with all radios off (airplane mode on), you could for example run a movie with radios off and see how much screen time on you get (or what battery percentage is left from 100%).

Bootloader unlocking/rooting usually involves installing a custom recovery, giving a chance to recover the phone if something goes wrong during a ROM install.

At least having the USB debugging option set to on in Developer Options would give a chance to get out of a bad situation, but the tutorial in question doesn't even mention that.

Well this is interesting. Yesterday I was using my high capacity unofficial 3800mAh battery browsing the web on the bus with the screen at 40% brightness with spotify running in the background (highest quality + download option on 4G). The battery drained from 52% to 12% over 1 hr.

Today I had my official LG 3000mAh battery inserted at 100%. I took a short train journey to work during which time I already had 3 web pages loaded as I have no signal en-route and the screen at 40% brightness. 20 minutes later I get to work and the battery level is still 100%. I get to my desk and leave the phone inactive (screen off) but 4G, network and ‘sync’ on. An hour later Im looking at the battery and it is 99%.

That would suggest either
1. My 3800mAh battery is faulty
2. Spotify is causing major battery drain.

I am using Android 6.0 and there was an over the air update which took place yesterday so I guess I have the latest version.

I'll do a scientific experiment tonight. I have the 3800mAh battery fully charged in my bag. I'll insert this and make the same bus journey as yesterday but I'll turn spotify off this time. If the drain is reduced then we know its Spotify. If the drain remains then we can assume my unofficial high capacity battery has gone bonkers.

I would definitely appreciate it if others can report their battery life and usage patterns. I was really shocked by yesterday's drain but today’s performance has put my mind at ease somewhat.

This is somewhat a copy of xda tutorial. Thought it would be easier to follow as xda explains 3 different ways of upgrading and the site I mentioned describes the easiest way. My understanding is that unlocking bootloader and rooting can potentially lead to problems as the procedure opens device to all sorts of unnoficial software.

Only disappointing thing is some backlight issue (horizontal darker band in the top of screen and one near bottom). It's minor but ince you saw them it's difficult to not OCD ;-) if you want to test yours use a white background.

I recommend official, latest stock Marshmallow rom from LG H81520B_00.kdz. Just use LGUP. As per instructions. No vodafone animation and no need to unlock bootloader or root your phone.

If they know what they're doing they'll just do it. I got told they only had contract in. I asked whether could just transfer it over (rhetorical question) and they immediately did. They have to get certain member software staff with the know how to actually change it across though

You can add 24p at a Vodafone store. Bring your balance up to £5.12 and then spend 12p on a text to transfer the other £5 across :smiley:

The 3800mAh battery is item# 131662847634 on ebay for £4.66 and from a UK seller - well worth the purchase. I've used it as my primary battery so I can’t tell how it compares to the original but it should be 26% higher capacity and it fits in the standard body and case without protrusions.

I'm going to take a punt on item 262197398424 which is a 6500mAh. Its over twice the capacity of the original and less than £9.

Every device has its pros and cons but a higher capacity battery and a few software settings should bring it up to requirements. I'm pretty sure the G4 is likely to be one of the last flagships with a removable battery and SD card slot so I have no regrets so far.

Yeah, for various reasons I am still using my G2, so just playing around with the G4, didn't really install any apps on it and so on, and the battery goes down 1% every 5 minutes or so, scary.

Yeah, mine is at 17% from a 100% charge this morning and I've barely used it. Admittedly it found a software update and started installing that too today. It's got to be the screen. I notice when its on the drain is huge. Lowering the brightness makes little difference. Having a good experience overall with the phone so far. Only issue is the weak vibration on its highest setting and the sound output seems to lack bass/power compared to HTC/Samsung phones. Anybody else experienced the same?

If you are unlocking the bootloader/rooting (which will as you mentioned void the warranty, from LG and Vodafone), you might as well install the non-branded ROM, this would get rid of all the Voda apps (along with the boot animation). Just an idea.

Im amazed at the camera quality in low light. I took a snap with my G2 and with the G4 and the image quality in the latter truly shines with very little noise.

I am finding the battery is draining very rapidly though. I lost 50% power just after mid day. I think I will need to tweak some setting and make sure nothing is running in the background.

I bought the 507 version for the misses and upgraded it to MM it was replacing a nexus 5. Shes a heavy user but the battery on the nexus is usually almost gone by 6pm, the lg g4 is on 55% at 5:30. It seems to have great battery life.

The warranty leaflet with the phone shows it as 2 years, so if you still find stock I wouldn't worry too much about it failing.

Any uses for the £10 vodafone credit? or bin it?

I don't think that it's 10 pounds in the conventional sense(i.e. 10 actual pounds which you can use in Vodafone). THis 10 pounds is actually how much the one month plan you took is worth. Because my balance says 0. So when you pay the cashier 10 pounds, they inr eturn give you the plan for 150 mins, unlimited texts and 500mb, NOT 10 pounds Vodafone credit.

The battery on mine was pretty poor. I think there's a chart on the previous page with comparisons showing it to be worse than G2 and G3, which makes sense given its the same size battery powering a bigger and brighter screen

Ive had the 505 for 5 months with no problems so far...

LG bridge is a pain in the ass. Had to try many combinations of debug mode and phone settings to make it connect, and I can't remember which combination finally did it.

Once the phone was connected the marshmallow update was quick and easy. I don't think there's any other way to get the update currently, but it does work if you persevere or are lucky.

From memory the marshmallow update didn't really say what it was, and implied it was some small maintenance patch.

I've ended up just taking 2 back.

One was a 509 that had terrible battery life and was flashing notifications randomly. Another was 506 that had already been opened before I bought it and resealed by the store, so I decided against it.

I just wanted to share my experience returning them, at the Altrincham store.

I'd had an exchange (for the 509) arranged so went to complete that. They tried giving me a clearly already-opened one (the seal was torn). At first I was fine with it. There was then a delay with the changing over from contract to PAYG, which made me just ask if I could return it. At first I was told I couldn't as I'd used it (despite being within their 14 days 'change of mind' policy period, and this actually being extended to 15 January 2015 anyways). That's when I decided to just return it (the 509) and the 506 as the last thing I wanted was to get the opened one and get told it'd been opened, if I just changed my mind. I pointed out that I was returning it because it was faulty, at which point the man backtracked and proceeded with the refund. He did one return for £245.00 (£225 + £20 credit as I got the speaker, which I also returned). I then saw the card reader for the other one said £205, so I pointed out I paid £235.00 (£225.00 + £10). I was then told I couldn't get the top-up credit back. I pointed out he'd just given me the money back for the other one, to which he said it'd processed £450.00 total and it was just splitting them up unevenly for some reason. I told him that doesn't make sense as the machine wouldn't have known he was going to refund the other. I told him to manually enter the refund amount. He said the machine just wouldn't let him refund the top-up, but by pure coincidence the machine then went to refund me £225.00. I pointed out that I was still £10.00 short and was expressly told by the Bolton (Middlebrook) store that I'd get the full refund back. He said that can't be the case, so I asked him if he was calling his colleague a liar at which point he basically began stuttering. He ended up copying my receipts and recommending I go to the Middlebrook store (which is no real inconvenience) and to pop back in to him anyways.

Just wanted to put this out there for 2 reasons, really:

a) Warn about the service at Altrincham;
b) Give people a heads up that there should be in 2 Altrincham if they haven't got rid of them already (by sale or back to a warehouse).

Just for: the man I'm referring to was about late 30s; bit of a gut on him; ginger-y hair. Hi guys, i need some help please.

I am on the second 511* phone and i keep getting bootloops. All i did was upgrade to marshmellow via the desktop app then as they apps were still installing, i got any pop up for an update. However once that updates installs (LG update not android) it never boots back up. it's stuck on the vodafone screen. This is the 2nd unit i have had the same issue on.

How can Vodafone tell whether the unlock Code was issued by them or a third party?
They can't even keep track of orders, whether they can or can't convert a paym handset, or anything else, really!

As far as I'm aware LG bridge is the only way to get the update as the OTA isn't yet available.

I just downloaded LG bridge, connected the handset to the laptop and let windows install the drivers, no need to turn on debug. It did take a while for the drivers to install, but the update was successful.

Bought red one today from Chester store 511. Hoping to unlock to use with bt mobile. Before I unlock wondering about the lack of warranty if unlocked as posted above.

I got the phone unlocked alright. But I now have problems with adnroid 6 update. There is no sign of OTA so it seems LG Bridge is the only way. but the software keeps saying "cannot manage your device, try again later" I've installed the latest driver from LG and turned on the debug mode. Anyone knows what to do here?

I have contacted LG UK regarding the serial number stuff and they said that there are no known issues with the 505 serial. On another note I asked on Vodafone chat and also instore if third party unlocking voids Vodafone warranty and they claimed it does?

That does make sense, I guess... not sure if it complicates things or not, given that I won't using it on Vodafone once I've unlocked it, and need to order a new sim from EE anyway as I'm still using a standard sim and need the micro sim for the LG G4.

For clarification, it shows "£10.00 Big Value Bundle Voucher" and all the bits associated with that, and then has (in big bold print) "TopUp Voucher No. **** **** ****" followed by 'Dial 2345 to activate your pack'.

Im guessing I can just disregard all that for now and just crack on with unlocking the phone, right? Does it need a sim in the phone to be able to unlock it? Also, could the the top up voucher number be flogged on, without any problems?

Cheers guys! :smiley: Thought that would the be the case re the unlocking, but having read the posts about it not being official led me to think it was some sort of "temporary" unlock.

On my receipt it specifies that it is a "phone and sim package" with mobile number, £10 bundle and sim serial. They gave me a sim card from the cupboard behind the till. So maybe they have just sold you the voucher as a top up but no sim (if that makes sense?).

This is maybe going to sound like a stupid question, but were you supposed to walk out with a physical sim card, as per the £10 top-up? I asked the missus to check the Southport store and they converted a red contract phone over for her there and then. Assuming it's based on the first three digits of the S/N, then it's a 511. Is/was there one particular seller that people were recommending with regards to the unlock code for this particular batch?

1) I would assume the phone is unlocked forever, always been the case with other phones ive had
2) Other than the splash screen and an updates app, there is no other voda branding.
3) Wouldn't see the point in unlocking with voda, have to wait 30 days and then pay £20 instead of £2.65.

Went into my local Vodafone store and they said they had none in stock or any G4s in the branch. They tried to sell me the G4C but I made it quite clear that my mind was made up on handset choice and I would happily put down the money for a G4 now if they could source a phone, which they have done from a nearby store by converting it from a contract to payg handset and transferring it to their stock.

Although it did take a little bit of persuasion to spur them into action, top marks for service, the chap said he would get it for me personally and said to come back later in the day - as I had to be elsewhere I said I would come in and collect it in a few days time, and left him to sort it.

They did say that the offer might end on the 31st (perhaps a little keen to hit sales targets at end of month!?!) but they did say the offer has been very popular, so I went for it. Money paid and walked out with a very expensive sim card, receipt and paper bag. :smirk:

Got a few questions though (I am a bit of android noob as i'm moving from a stone age iphone, so bear with me haha);
1) if I use one of the ebay unlocks is the phone unlocked forever, or will it require another unlock if reset/software flashed?
2) I have seen on some of these posts that the phone is vodafone branded. Whilst this isn't a biggy, is it possible to remove these brandings, and also are there any features crippled by the network on the software?
(My previous experience with network's custom s/w is a few years old with the Sony Ericsson phones supplied by Orange as they plastered the phone in their own shyte and crippled the music player - I have had iphones since)
3) how long would it take for an official unlock? and what strings are attached?

I bought mine (511) from from Oxford St London. Apparently it was the last in stock. I used the ebay unlock code mentioned in this thread and its sorted. Im just transferring my apps and media to it now. Could not be happier with it.

Yes a glitch, been in there mulitple times. I had a look at the pay monthly phones available because they can be turned into payg and Palmers Green had immediate stock so I went there and got one didn't even have to be transferred to payg amazing deal. Maybe check there if your nearby.

Just i got a 506, other half got a 511 and her 511 screen isn't as bright as mine, also the camera isn't as clear when taking pictures.

Hi anybody with the 511 had problem with it recognising another sim card as I have got my unlock code but when I put my Three sim in and turn it on it just goes to the home page as normal rather than a page with an instruction to enter the unlock code.

The attention to detail in the review doesn't bode well when they convert 6hrs and 50 mins get it wrong (410mins, not 470mins). I assume they observeed 5hrs 50mins, but who knows?!

Yeah... I went with a cheap unbranded glass screen protector for my G4. In short, the quality is quite bad. Already, the protector is loosening and I can see bubbles on the edge of my screen. I'd recommend getting a branded one.

i picked up a 511 model in Lisburn ,northern ireland. the website could not check stock for that store for some reason.unlocked and running well.

Good deal but Vodafone would've had my money if they'd done this Black Friday, now they won't. I reformatted and happy with G2 again!

I got two units, both in red leather, for me and my wife. However, my wife does not want hers. Anyone interested? I can return it to the store for a refund but I figured someone here might want it. I've tried charging from a wall/ socket mounted 2.1A USB port and from the supplied charger with no difference in charge rate.

Will try swapping the cable in case that's dodgy.

Hmm. Perhaps you should try charging from a different socket. Also check that you don't have a rogue app doing a lot of work in the background. If all else fails I would take it back to Vodafone to get a new battery.

Mate that's definitely fishy. Mine charges in usually 2 hours.

i didnt use the wall charger yet, i use the pc usb port and usb cable., charging always takes ages via pc method but puts the least stress on the battery, the G3 i got still has good battery life and works well, i read today they testing out marshmallow now with the release of it in poland.

Mine's working well now generally, unlocked and upgraded to marshmallow.

Only issues I have are slightly higher than expected battery drain and long charge times (7 hours for a full charge from the wall seems excessive) wondering if I got a bad battery.

got one in woolwich today despite them saying no stock at all, he switched a pay monthly to pay as you go no problem but i've got a grey metallic rather than red leather which isn't really an issue did an imei check apparently mines 512 produced on December 4th so I'll probably have issues trying to unlock it.

I havent got my phone yet but that was the question I wanted to find the answers for. Someone has confirmed that LG has decided to strip off the new feature from their own version of Android 6 update, meaning the sd card is treated as external storage, just like what you see in android L.

Is anyone able to reserve online because my local store - Enfield says its available today but there is no option to order it to there so I went to that shop and none in stock but there was one in the back but it has been reserved, I was also told that they cannot order to that shop.

I intend to pick this up in the new year. On a side note after a year and a half my LG G2 has been very slow lately. I wasn't sure why as the OS is still the same. I did a factory reset and hey presto, smooth as butter again. I definitely recommend doing this at least once a year even if its a hassle reloading all your apps again.

Just bought another one from Meadowhell tonight, they didnt have any pay and go left, but the lady told me its no problem for them to convert a contract phone over to payandgo on there system. hopefully this will unlock as easy as the last one did.

It's good for budget 8GB phones but when you've 32GB of fast internal memory why mix in slow SD card storage?

Just exchanged one of mine (a 510 which suffered from phantom key strokes) to a 507, brand new and sealed, from my local store. This one seems great, updated to MM (20b) and unlocked and using GiffGaff fine.

Just read there seem to be some bugs with Android M update. The sd Card is still shown as external storage with no option to format the sd Card is an internal storage (new feature on Android 6). Also apps cannot be moved to sd card.

I have completely agree with you. that is what exactly my observation as well. I have decided to return it and buy another phone.

IMPORTANT-
If you want to buy this phone and your store says it is out of stock, ask them to convert a normal contract G4 into a pay as you go one! The first Vodafone store i went to failed to offer me the latter service, however the second one i went to offered to change one of their contract G4s into a PAYG one!!
Also with the guy on eBay - i'm a bit confused with his instructions. To my understanding, you make the purchase and then send him your model and IMEI. Then he will send you the code and with your Vodafone sim inserted, type in the stuff in the dialler and that's you done and dusted?

Finally - Will unlocking via eBay void warranty?

Hi Any one having heat problems with LG G4. I am can see the my phone is getting heat very frequently like taking few pics also causing heat. .and also skype vc for 1 hr caused heat too much. I tried factory reset and tried with very few apps still can feel the heat.

Does this phone need a case? my thinking was the leather back is grippy (and replaceable) so surely just a front screen protector should do? Im fairy careful with my phone and just wanted to avoid scuffs. The phone is fairly big and not having a case would keep the size down

jus tan update, the ebay unlock code for £2.75p worked. and iv used lg bridge to update to marshmallow. phone is a lot faster than the g3

I got the G2 from last year deal and it still serving me well, and I've no intention to upgrade to G4 given the G5(snapdragon 820 with 4GB ram)is tipped to release early, in February 2016. I can see my G2 still going strong for another 12months before needing an upgrade, most of my non essential data being stored on OTG usb device.

It's done by IMEI range I think, which may mean that some 511s are not unlockable in all databases yet.

Try cell unlocker dot net - slightly higher cost but worked for me. Mileage may vary.

No issue with Bluetooth on mine, paired with Kenwood car stereo fine as well as BT fongle attached to B&W Zeppelin. Works perfectly.

Go to home screen and select the app icon
Then select on the settings icon
Browse for the Application Manager
Display All Tabs by swiping either right or left
Select on Bluetooth
Select to stop it forcefully.
Now clear the cache
Select clear the Bluetooth data
Select Ok
Finally restart the LG G4

This is the upgrade I'm set to do (one Hot UK deal to another, of course). Have been deliberating but think the expandable storage and camera are gonna seal it for me

I've just upgraded from the G2, the photos are much sharper and it's very nice to have more space for apps and the chance to put the micro sd card.

Well worth the upgrade for me as i take so many photos i was running out of space very quickly as i had about 3gb of apps too.

My Marshmallow updated phone, done with LG Flash, got a system update last night to rev "V20B" of MM. Enhancements and phone usability was mentioned in that update, IIRC. It is still MM ver 6 but it is nice to get an update.

In my opinion Marshmallow is what Lollipop should have been from the beginning.

It is just the next version of Android from the one that ships with your G4. It is an improvement, some good stuff around making battery last longer in stand by mode. Some improvements in permissions and so on. More of a bit of spit and polish on Android 5.1 (Lollipop) that ships with it. Your day to day usage of the phone won't really be affected.
If it all seems like to much hassle to upgrade through a USB cable and the LG software then you can wait, it should appear as an over the air update in a few weeks.

I am struggling to load from a back up in Gmail. Back up is from Nexus 5 using marshmellow os but it is not appearing as an option. Back up is switched on in both phones, but Lg G4 is still using 5.1 lollipop.

just bought 2 instore with the £20 bundle free Bluetooth speaker + an extra £10 on a sim card as the system was down . Merry Christmas :-)

If you use the brown tape it should get it off
next option is to wash the glass one with fairy and rub it gently to get the dirt hair off then use brown tape once dry

Typical as I bought a case from Amazon and a Micro SD card too!

It basically means you can load up custom ROMs from the XDA site and so on. If you are not bothered about being able to do that (and the vast majority of people are not) then it doesn't really matter.

Already tried, glue on screen protector was really strong and the hair very thin so there was no way to remove it.

Flip the protector and use cellotape to get those dust particles and hair then put it back on

Damn I bought a nice temperate screen protector, was able to put it on without pubbles but then I noticed a very thin but long hair under it so I had to remove it and put on a cheap plastic one :disappointed: Too bad, it looked really nice but the fact that it's impossible to remove a hair/dust if it get's attached to it is annoying.

My one does make the phone feel a little bulky. The cases can usually be put on top of the leather but its just a little tight.

unlocked my phone and everything seems to be working fine except apps sometimes just stop working. Especially Snapchat, I can't even go on the app as it will just crash the minute I go on it. tried reinstalling app and restarting phone, no help. anyone have any solutions please?

Managed to get a Metallic Grey LG G4 (510) :smiley:. Hopefully this manufacture date is ok but will make sure I back up regularly. The store had no idea about the deal and were pretty shocked when they saw the price.

I asked about unlocking and was told the phone might be unlocked anyway (according the the Vodafone employee, roughly 70-80% of the phones they receive are unlocked now unless they're iPhones or Samsungs) but getting it unlocked from anywhere other than Vodafone does not void their warranty.

I was told yesterday when i picked mine up that you can initate an online return in any vodaphone shop as long as it was delivered to a store notat home.

Anyone still in this deal?, I spent the last 3 days trying to get this but everywhere has been sold out. A store by mine has 1 remaining by Ormskirk. It is a black leather one . I've just purchased the Maroon colour and looks really nice.

If any body is interested, PM me ill be more than happy to help them get it as the girl who did it for me in store had to swap it from Contract to PAYG. She said she only did this because the store is closing down.

Just bought LG G4 red from Vodafone stockport. They had a few albeit on contract. I asked I want LG G4 and he brought it out from stockroom and converted it there and then. Strange. I followed instructions on xda and manage to get rid of Vodafone boot animation in no time. Remember flashing stock LG rom also worked on my old LG G2.

If you want to network unlock and dont want your IMEI number released in the wild.
£20 and you have to wait 30days from when you purchase the phone apparently. Also told ebay codes would invaludate warranty as they could tell if it wasnt VF unlocked. No idea if this is trueas other posters have reported a different story on this.

The branding sticks around even after LGUP as I tried it. Not until I got root via installing fully all the bits via TWRP was I able to move the bootanimation files to remove the carrier branding. It is possible I managed to do something wrong but I didn't think so...

You do not need to root or unlock bootloader to remove branding. Just flash original LG stock Marsmallow rom with LGUP. Takes about 10min.

Yes I'll post with some more info later when at home. It is rather involved though and means unlocking your bootloader with LG. But it doors allow you to remove the Vodafone branding including boot animations

They had stock in Blackpool on pay monthly but they said the offer had finished last night and its now £400+. The label next to handset even said £225. I didn't believe him saying it increased in price but whatever they seemed to be pushed to not sell it and push the g4c or g3. Terrible shambles of a company.

I bought one for myself last week in London. I found another for my Mother today at Bluewater in Kent (also red leather and still at £225). They were sold out but had had a couple more in. So it's worth checking branches again every day or so.

Have you tried uploading your Amazon G4 via LG Bridge?

You don't need a Vodafone sim (or any sim), just dial 2945#*815# to get the looking menu.

Select the sim lock option (first one I think), then paste in your unlock code. Be careful to get it right, as you an only do it a certain number of times (10 IIRC)

Okay, I have a confirmed unlock of a 511 / November phone, with an IMEI in the 3598720679 range (so anything lower than that number is probably doable, possibly higher too) :sunglasses:

The unlock was from cell unlocker dot net (I have no relationship with them)

They initially said they couldn't find the IMEI in their database but were checking an alternative source. After 3.5 days they found it and sent me a working unlock code.

They are not the cheapest, but may be worth a try. Alternatives may be better / faster / cheaper.

I got an email today to collect mine from the local store. It was a sealed 510. Box was scruffy but took it as that was only one. Apparently if I need to return it - it can be done to the store - and 28 days not 14 to do so. Yet to open it. Will report back later. If anybody has a link to an ebay seller to unlock a 510 please post - save me reading back through 48 pages again.

Does the fact that it's locked to Vodafone have cause any issues with getting updates? I've bought unlocked phones for as long as I can remember and I have heard people online complain about having to wait longer for Android updates because of their terrible US carriers.

If so, would unlocking the phone then cause any problems with android updates?

Meh, after faffing about for the last day speaking to Vodafone on live chat, who repeatedly told me that as I had received an order number my order was guaranteed, I decided to give them a ring as it didn't feel right. Turns out they had no record of the order on their system, despite giving me confirmation on the website that the order was placed. Doubt I'll ever attempt to do business with them again (thankfully I've never been a Vodafone customer and haven't given them any of my money!)

I had the email telling me to collect in store on Friday, been down twice on both occasions phone was on desk in front of me, the staff then told me it wasn't available and the system wouldn't let them give it to me.Despite the store phoning to tell me i can collect it, total shambles. Customer services are just as bad, if you eventually get through to the correct department (pay as you go web orders). They admit there is a big system issue affecting loads of click and collect orders, its a farce.

Went in today, they wouldn't honour this price. Tried to sell me one for £400 and something, then tried to blag me a G3 was nearly the same.

The plastic screen protector you spoke about which came with the phone, i still have mine on as well, although i'm certain that's not contributing to the issue. I do agree with what you've said but couldn't think how to describe it in my original post, it indeed seems like a problem with the screen bonding during production. When looking at the display straight on, i can see the darkish bar about 30% downwards, as mentioned in my XDA post, and when looking at the screen from a slight angle the bright circle shape starts to become visible. It might be a decent idea for me to show a few relatives and see whether they can also agree on there being a problem. If so, i'll most likely be heading back to Vodafone on Sunday for a return or replacement. Such a shame! :disappointed:

Placed my order for this phone over 24 hours ago, apart from the order number I got from the confirmation web page, it's all dark. Tracker thinks the order number is invalid. No correspondence at all from Vodafone. No money taken from my account. Customer service live chat keep telling me to wait longer, and that the order number itself is enough confirmation - I'm not convinced. They've told me to call customer services to check the order later. Really not optimistic about this, like others I should have chosen the home delivery option!

If I don't see any traction within the next 24 hours, I'll probably just give up. Shocking customer service so far.

haha, yes, it's mind blowing, I bought a Huawei G300 from their website, came dead on arrival, I tried returning it during the cooling off period, to avoid waiting for repair and so on.
I thought that would simplify things, but no, 2 months down the line, I had no phone and no money, no refund.

In the end, I contacted them in writing to have some proof (as phone calls are difficult to trace).
They refused to answer me in writing.

I then contacted Moneywise magazine, at which point, they called me, wrote me, apologized, and finally got it sorted, and was offered a free phone

I still have the factory screen plastic on mine, so can't be 100% sure, but I don't think I get this issue. There's some variation in brightness over the screen which might be the plastic cover, fingerprints etc, but nothing too extreme.

Sounds like maybe uneven bonding between the LCD and the front glass rather than a coating problem (I think the LCD is usually permanently bonded/glued to the display glass, and if there are any gaps or unevenness you might see something like that). I would suggest if you clean it all thoroughly with something to make sure there's no oil or fingerprints and still see the issue, it would be worth returning.

How do I know if I have a 511 version?

Can i update to marshmallow and then get the unlock code from eBay? I'm in no rush to unlock.

I assume the marshmallow update doesn't affect the camera as that is the reason why i bought the phone. Just thinking of Sony and how they always mess up the camera software with updates.

I got the last one from the Broadstairs store yesterday, unfortunately its a 506, but if it's going to fail it has a 12 month warranty.

I also didn't have to purchase the £10 top up. I had my voda sim that i got last year with the G2 in case though.

I read the comments that everybody got the sim loaded with £10, except who already had one Voda. Well i did not get any Sim, they simply printed a voucher code. Actually I went for the £20 offer and grabbed one of the free BT speaker. The code can be sold for £15 so the speaker will be only a fiver.

Called them went to payg department, automated system insisted on me having a VF number, in the end had to enter a wrong number 3 times, then it let me carry on to speak to a person in the UK, who then transferred me to to the Online Team in South Africa, who then initiated the returns.

When the courier comes and collects (within 72 hours), i will get an email to say the phone has been delivered to VF, then I, yes I need to call VF again to tell them this so they can refund me....:confused:

a load of faffing around just get a returns sorted....

Samantha at Vodafone just said this.....

"We are in talks with the manufacturer for the next lot of the handset and hopefully get it soon in a day or so."

That's weird.....it's back......I searched payg LG and only three phones popped up instead of four.

The G4 payg has now been removed from Vodafones site......

My LG G2 i purchased last year had the vodafone splash screen, I could have either waited till the update came through on my phone, or used i think it was LG Suite if i wanted the newest android at the time....i held on and the update came and it took away the splash screen about 2 weeks later, not sure if this would be the case here?

Just flash stock LG marshmallow 6.0 rom with LGUP as per instructions on XDA. Quick and easy. And no more Vodafone boot logo.

From memory with other handsets, the boot animation is a series of images stored on the boot loader partition, which probably isn't updated during normal updates.

I understand that LG allow the boot loader to be unlocked, meaning that custom ROMs and replacing or removing this will almost certainly be possible (and probably easy), but it may be necessary to root the phone.

I haven't manage to get mine working yet as the simlock can't be removed on a 511 yet, but Google and xda developers forum are good places to start finding out how to remove / replace the animation if it bothers you.

I purchased one today from the Borehamwood store this afternoon, they did have another in stock.

I got my Grey 505 on Friday.. updated a few times to 5.1.1 and then used LG Bridge to go to 6.0 and unlocked using eBay.
I was having issues with LG Bridge on my Macbook Pro but then tried a Windows laptop and worked first time.
I am really liking the G4 and have decided to return the G Flex 2. :smiley:

I might be pushing my luck but im holding out for a sim free unlocked one in the new year sales for similar money.

Thats the thing. I used LG Bridge and it still didnt show up but for the vodafone it shows android 6.0 update available. My one is 508 and vodafone one is 507.

I've given up with this now and ended up buying from ebuyer unlocked £300.

according to store staff I spoke with earlier today they're expecting this deal to reappear on Xmas eve, although she did stop short of guaranteeing it. it should be available to order online for store pick up.

Bexleyheath store got a grey one but seal is opened on contract but they swapped a red one from contract to PAUG and didn't have to buy a sim as said had 1 already so only cost 225

With lg phone info app I found out that my 511 phone was manufactured on November 13 so not too strange that there is still no unlock code yet (well I didn't try actually, can anyone that failed to unlock get the app from the store and check the date?)

The G4 6.0 update is only available be through LG Bridge at the moment and has not been released OTA.

so I asked online chat to cancel my order, after confirming everything they asked for, they said it was cancelled. (the words were "Congratulations I have cancelled your order!"!!)

Bombjack I was told 30 days then £20 when I got my g4 on Friday. I decided that was a rip off so used the unlocking company. Paid in $ on Paypal and was £9.60.Had code this morning and it's unlocked now.

Picked up red leather from Liverpool Church Street at 5.30 - it was contract one they changed over for me - think grey also available -511 but no hurry to use -got £10 top up so could use that for a month.

Has anyone else tried to update to Marshmallow using a Mac?
Its stopped once saying my phone couldn't update, so I tried again and got the same message.
I did notice this when downloading the USB driver:

'USB DRIVER for MAC Download Mac OS is not support S/W Update.'

So looks like Mac users will have to wait, unless you've got access to a PC/laptop running Windows.

Does anyone know whether £10 SIM gets activated on day of purchase or when inserted into the phone? I am still on EE 100GB sim and would like to switch over to Vodafone sim (50GB) in two weeks time.

Hi guys can confirm that eBay item number 261160583898 is a legitimate unlock code seller. Just unlocked mine and got the code within 5 minutes. Phone working fine on Three network. :sunglasses:

I've a feeling it won't remove the Vodafone logo. You need to do a ROM update for that - there should be one available on the Internet somewhere for the UK market to make it into a SIM-free version. Then you can update the OS. Bear in mind you'll have to put it back to a Vodafone ROM to claim under the warranty.

The download is direct from LG ,I am guessing the phone will revert to Marshmallow with no logos from airtime providers ,but will not know for sure until mine has updated

If anyone's wondering about the stock in London, I went to the Ilford, Stratford and Romford stores. OOS everywhere.

No confirmation email for the order I placed earlier, seems like ordering to store is a bit hit and miss from what I've been reading here. At this point I'll just wait and see what happens!

Indeed it is ,download LG bridge from LG , plug your phone into the computer with LG bridge running ,it will check for updates ,marshmallow will be there to download as a update .

Just to update everyone. I have contacted vodafone via live chat and the guy there says that unlocking using ebay does not in any way have an effect on the 14 day return period. I dont think it even matters since they probably wont even check the phone.

Mine has just arrived , Amazing screen , The red leather back looks really nice , a lot nicer than expected , a real sign of quality , currently hooked up to my P.C doing the Marshmellow update , 1.58 gb , should take around 3 hours !!! for it to download due to my small village internet speeds....but no worries , got things to do this afternoon , should be all sort for me to play with when I get back home this evening... :smiley: well pleased , feels like a early xmas pressie !!!! Total bargain at 225.00 delivered , plus the added bonus of me already been on a Vodaphone sim only deal anyway !!! I am not much of a 2 year contract kind of buyer.....to many good deals come out to be tied to a phone for 2 years :smiley:

I got one on Sunday from Vodafone in Kings Lynn, 510 model. Unlocked and loving it currently. Vodafones website said it was oos but tried anyway.

Twice got it into basket...entered payment details and then get the message saying it has gone out of stock...........

I've read the 42 pages of this post so far and I'd think I'm right in saying these are still not unlockable...?
I can wait for the codes to be available, I'm in no rush, but if anyone manages to get it unlocked please post it here so we with the 511's can do the same sooner rather than later, thanks :smiley:

This vodafone service is nothing when compared to the **** they would talk last year when the LG G2 was on offer. I was one of the lucky ones that got one in store. The people that ordered online had to wait around 2-3 months before they received a phone or had been given a replacements instead. The only reason they are profitable is due to the people that have contracts with them. They get better service which is unfair but what can we do.

I see that Voda have not improved much with their online ordering and tracking service. Their CS often gives out contradictory advice, as do the staff in their shops.
It was the same when I bought my Voda Smart Ultra 6 online and I doubt much will ever change, I'm amazed that they continue as they do and still remain profitable.
If I could have got JL or Amazon to price match I would not have dealt with Voda.

I went through all the pages but got a message saying out of stock after clicking to confirm order.

Just picked a red leather one up from Glasgow Byres Road. They had one of the grey metallic ones in stock that had a broken seal. Good thing is i didn't have to pay £10 since I said I have a payg sim already from last years LG G2 that i haven't used in a year. They didn't ask for the number but make sure you have it just in case. The only downside is that its a 507 but i dont really care since i already have a 507 thats had no problems.

Finally ordered one on the website, to collect in store. I had to speak to a sales advisor, as it kept throwing an error, something about not finding my account. She sent me a link and said to immediately click it as soon as I clicked "Buy Now", and that seemed to work - I got instant confirmation. Asked her to check if the order went through, she said she could see it. Worryingly though, I haven't received any sort of email confirming it. She said it'd come through in 24 hours, I guess I'll have to wait and see.

Manky, I ordered Friday, it was delivered to my home the next day. Pretty poor if they did that to store delivered orders.

I wonder if those of us who ordered Friday for delivery to store have missed out and the stock went to all the peoplewho got it delivered to home. They haven't even passed it on to a courier according to the tracker.

Just spoke to customer services...she said they are trying to get something sorted regarding stock, for this evening.

Just managed to get an order in and now the website doesn't list the G4 at all in the pay and go mobiles section.

None in my local Livingston store on Sunday, and he didn't offer any info on whether they would be getting more or not.

the seller emailed me the codes within ten minutes or so, for each of them.
Also I got good communications and help with the process, for me it was a little messy as it coincided with me swapping over from a nano Sim to a Micro Sim for one phone and giffGaff took around 30 mins or so for that process to complete, at first I wasn't sure if it had worked or not but you do get a message saying if you are successful. Be careful entering the long number, just be precise.

The unlock process worked fine by using the NCK (/network Locked) number supplied.

The order I placed for a store delivery last Friday afternoon still has a status of not yet accepted - despite the fact they took the money straight away. I have spent nearly 3 hours on their online chat thing trying to find out what is happening and have got nowhere. They have given me phone numbers to ring but those require a vodaphone mobile number - which I explained I did not have - just kept going round in circles - just pathetic service.

If my phone is eventually delivered to the store - does anybody know what the procedure is to effect a return - do I have to do this online - or can it be done instore for an online order?

I just ordered it 1 minutes ago, couldn't do collect in store (my guess is that they use the stores stock) but changed it to Home delivery and it went through fine.

Seals are only broken to demo phones to customers. To help them choose colour etc. The seals are there for stores to ensure they enter the store sealed. Once a phone leaves the store through the system and is returned. Even if 2 mins later. Has to be sent to the warehouse. Only phones we can not sell after opening is iPhones.

Hope this eases your mind.

The above is correct. The seals are actually there for store purpose as we sometimes have to open them to show customers etc. But any returned or exchanged products even accessories even if 100% fine have to go back to the warehouse.

Unlocking should state 30 days for PAYG and 3 month for contract.

Although all stores have the same policies etc each store and store manager enforce certain things differently. We have to sell PAYG with a sim now. As a phone is meant to leave with the VF service. (Contract or payg) but there are some managers or staff who will let it slide as a one off (usually only if u have a VF contract). It is not something we can do regularly only in special cases usually as the store/staff can be flagged for it. Don't go in to stores expecting not to pay for the SIM.

I tried unlock-code-shop.com - they don't have the IMEI in their database. Would be appreciative if anyone can confirm they have unlocked a 511 with anyone.

Got one 511 v1.1 red leather. Contacted the guy at ebay as my imei does not match up with the ones can not unlocked, but neither the ones can be done. He confirmed that my 511 is fine, in the db and can be unlocked. So guys, check imei, date code is irrelevant.

I just put a GiffGaff in right away and I have never used the Voda Sims in either of the two G4's I bought and then unlocked via ebay. They were both sealed phones and 509 and 510 in revision.

Just got a red one from Liverpool one store they had a get one left.

I've spoke to numerous Ebay sellers and none can unlock an LGG4 with those initial IMEI numbers, I think its just a waiting game now, also in regards to the £10 Sim can that be used to buy anything other than being used for texting/data/calls ?.

I'm also interested, as I'm in the same boat with the 3598720679 range. Please report if you have any luck with these, as I suspect there may be a few people on here happy to pay to get 511s unlocked, and you might corner the market :wink:

I do have a vodafone sim that has been active for a while but not on this phone, from what people say and what's written on the webiste I don't get if it would work or not for the unlock code from vodafone.

So, seems as though you don't have to wait 30 days if you can give a Vodafone number which has been in use for more than 30 days and hasn't been used for unlocking

My local Vodafone said that new policy is 3 months to unlock, not 30 days, if you want to unlock through them. That sound right?

Just picked up a Gray G4 from the Stevenage Vodafone shop, I had to ask the advisor as they were not aware that the price is £225.00 + £10.00 top up.
