I couldn't tell you if this model has an IPS panel or not. The answer is in the product code which is written on the back of the tv and on the box. Here is an example.
My tv's product code is 50LB650v-ZN.BEKDLJG. The clue is the set of seven letters at the end BEK D LJG. The fourth letter on mine is a "D". This denotes it is made by AU Optronics who don't make IPS panels. To know if it's an LG or not you need to look for the following letters as the fourth letter.

CRT may be old hat though they still give better picture quality than most of the TVs I see when displaying the majority of what people watch (broadcast channels). The 'progression' to 4k tvs is even less sensical as the benefit of tv size(footprint) left with CRT! 1080 displays have more benefits (over 4k) for most of us, just not the bragging rights. I'm happy to rough it out with my 18 month old 50" plasma.

Don't believe LG when they say it has an IPS panel. My tv is still being advertised as having LG's "Unique IPS Panel. Although the tv is discontinued it is still on the LG UK website. It does NOT have an IPS panel. It has a VA panel made by AU Optronics according to the product code. The pixel panel also confirms that it is not an IPS. A mistake or deliberate mis-representation and when I pointed out to Currys they had mis-sold me a tv they didn't want to know.

More pixels doesn't always mean better picture quality. In fact, in this price range you can bet that a £330 1080p will have better overall picture quality than a similar priced 4k set. Personally, its still too early for me.

Maybe once we get some 1080p media from the networks we can assume 4K will follow (you can, I'm not buying 4K for 5+ years).
I do agree with you regarding 4K being a priority for tv manufacturers, they're desperate to shift product to anyone gullible enough to buy into it(I'm not suggesting that everyone that buys 4K is gullible, only 90%).

If you have 4K content, admitedly there isn't much of it the screen size or distance would have to be pretty great to notice the difference, However. If 3D is your thing, a 4K passive 3D set increases the clarity as the nature of passive 3D interlaces the picture. If you want PASSIVE 3D then you have to have 4K to enjoy it at its fullest.
Then people will say, who watches or cares for 3D. I do and i bet anyone who has seen the cod from Imax under the sea would be converted too lol.
4K is in its early days but prices are getting around 1080p levels, so why not. This TV is a great deal for anyone not interested in 3D or LGs new colourprime technology.
pibpob
26 Dec 151#33
"Better picture"? The only difference is twice as many pixels in each direction Higher resolution. Only useful if the viewing distance is small enough.
"increased viewable distances"? You sound confused. Benefits only if you're closer to the screen, not further away.
"the priority of TV manfacturers and networks is 4K content."? TV manufacturers, sure, because it costs them peanuts and a fool and his money are easily parted. What "networks"? (It's a small k by the way.)
"HDR is already in 4K TVs that are in production."? No it isn't. Most panels are not capable of displaying it, and the standards for its transmission have not been defined yet.
Also you've ignored my points about colour space and frame rate. Frame rate is a particularly basic failing when you only increase the resolution, because the relative deterioration in the picture when there is motion is correspondingly greater. The effect of everything turning to mush as soon as it moves can be so extreme with 4k at standard frame rates that it can make people feel ill (as can 3D, but that's another story  ).

There are currently only 11 or 12 channels in HD of the 60 or so currently available on Freeview. I doubt if there any plans for any of the 11 or 12 to be transmitted in 4k so pointless for us who don't have sky, can't have Virgin and also don't have fibre or a 15mbps broadband to stream 4k. Not to mention that if you sit more than 5 feet away from this tv you will not benefit from a 4k tv.

It is a good price and far better spending your money on this compared to some cheap Turkish brand from the supermarket. Heat added.
The model is 50LB650v. I may be better off with this panel anyway but I have never been to keen on the way the tv processes slow moving objects, judders quite bad on some programmes, mainly on SD but it could just be the quality of the transmission as it has no issue with dvds. Its a bit like watching a streamed programme with a bit of a slow internet.
The fourth letter in the product code on mine is a D which I believe denotes AU Optronics A-MVA panel. Link on LG website as follows.
We have another LG which has an IPS panel looking at the pixels and the fourth letter on that is an H which suggests it should be an IPS panel but made by CHE MEI (Innolux).
So the product codes check out with the type of panels based on the pixels but seeing as my living room tv was in the mid-range price bracket to start with I wouldn't say it's a mid-range tv and think my money may go on a different brand next time although I was looking quite close at the 770V and 850v a few weeks back.
Currys said that I had left it too long before I told them and I also see that LG have probably covered themselves by stating they reserve the right to change the specification without notice etc etc.

No problem. If it's an 'H' then it will be an IPS but the manufacturer of the panel will be CHEI MEI (Innolux). We have one of these in our 42LB585v. It's a nice panel. A bit blocky on fast moving scenes but a nice clear bright and sharp picture. Irrespective of the panel or panel manufacturer I think this tv represents decent value for money. The purchasers who have left a review on REVOO speak very highly of it.

For picture settings I found the following very useful in setting mine up. Then I just adjusted the colour and brightness to how I like it. Although this is for a different model it is a good base setting before minor tweaks.
The spec on the website says its on the side but looking at the manual that appears to be incorrect. On the manual it shows a mobile phone plugged into hdmi 2. I don't have a sound system so not sure how they connect but if it is hdmi have you tried the number 2 hdmi port.

Then it would appear to be an IPS panel. You can check by getting a magnifying glass and going right up to the screen to see the pixels. Currys may even have one that you can borrow. The pixels will be chevron shaped. That will tell you its an IPS panel. Remember that LG could change the panel codes year by year if they wanted too but on the two LG's we have that are 2014 and 2015 models it checks out.
Irrespective of what panel it has in it at this price it offers god value for money.
That's a shame isn't it when someone as mighty as the LG corporation who must employ some very clever people make mistakes on their specification. Some would say mistakes but the more cynical like me would say they are deliberate. My own tv is advertised as having an IPS panel as I have no doubt already mentioned on this post. It does not but then how many people actually check what the panel is. Not many is my guess but just remember under our consumer act if the goods are not as described at the point of sale you are well within your rights to return it for a full refund.

I bought this TV and initially impressed, but have noticed now I have some white / purpley "splotches" on the display. Not sure if always been there, only really noticeably on dark / black backgrounds, but now Ive spotted it (on the Netflix boot screen) I cant take my eye off them...
Doesnt seem to be stuck or dead pixels...they aren't "on" so to speak and they do work when they need to. Its almost like you can see through to some light behind them....
Any idea what they are, is this a return jobby?

Ok, just got home after Curry's replaced my TV. They said the marks were "mild pixel burn" but weren't really sure why they were there on an out of the box set like this.
Anyway, just plugged the new one in and after a close inspection - yep, got the same thing here too. Albeit in a different place. I count 2 marks if roughly the same size.
Has anyone else experienced this ? (Put the TV on the LG screensaver and have a check....)

Tested with fifa 16 and rocket league! Chuffed
The fourth letter in the product code on mine is a D which I believe denotes AU Optronics A-MVA panel. Link on LG website as follows.
http://www.lg.com/uk/tvs/lg-50LB650V

W - mаtrіх fіrѕt vеrѕіоn оf рrоduсtіоn LG Dіѕрlау Со., Ltd. (2012, 2014)

Opinions from any helpful HUKDers?

Any good?
Irrespective of what panel it has in it at this price it offers god value for money.

Doesnt seem to be stuck or dead pixels...they aren't "on" so to speak and they do work when they need to. Its almost like you can see through to some light behind them....
Any idea what they are, is this a return jobby?
Anyway, just plugged the new one in and after a close inspection - yep, got the same thing here too. Albeit in a different place. I count 2 marks if roughly the same size.
Has anyone else experienced this ? (Put the TV on the LG screensaver and have a check....)
Is this just to be expected for a TV in this price range ?
43 inch Smart LED TV 1080p HD Freeview HD. £359???????
Depends how much you value it being smart I guess. Seeing as you can buy a fire stick or chromecast for around the £30 mark. I managed to get a fire stick for £19 a while back. However, smart on Samsung you get ITV and 4od,can't get these with anything else, although ITV is coming to firestick at some point, not sure when.
I have an LG tv and it's very good.
ALL corporate GREED is planned well in advance.
On the second set they were out of the box.
I might try for a third and final set tomorrow if I have the energy....will report back.
You need am big room for a 50" tv.
I may have to go the whole hog and slope the floor.
And it's works fine with RTE - (Freeview HD), if a little difficult to find the Saorview channel numbers.
They're all over the 800s on this TV.
So far no issues ! Thank the maker........
Would like to buy the LG but unsure...thanks.
Very new at this kind of setup, so thank you very much for the help!
