What do you mean? You're comparing an iPad, which is essentially a consumption device, to something with a keyboard and a desktop OS which could be quite productive. What would you suggest bearing in mind you know nothing about the needs of anyone apart from yourself?

Mine has now been sorted finally.

I emailed in and they sent a message back the next day saying that another department will look into it and be in touch soon

4 days later I didn't get a reply so I emailed them and asked what's going on. Another 3/4 days went by I emailed again asking what's going on. Another few days went by and I sent them a twitter message where they replied that someone will be in touch

Got a call today which they put down as soon as I answered but received an email asking to call them. Called them now and she is putting credit into my john lewis account so I can buy the subscription they're selling on their website which is currently at £52.50

I hope I can use it for other things as I managed to buy office for £20 from another forum!

Oh no. Just setting up son's laptop for his homework and can't load the subscription and now my investigating has taken me to this page which obviously explains it all. I purchased online and presume I am best to email their customer services with my order details. Have people been referring to this thread to make my query more efficient? Many thanks.

spongebob if you don't mind could you message me the receipt as now I have to wait to Monday until they check out original posting even though I sent cache version, think just trying everything not to pay me, was offered £10 credit to account then upped it to £20 refund after loads of emails and phone calls, getting really sick of this as I first wrote of this on 1st December and still not resolved

well according to John Lewis customer services they say everybody on here are liars and they would never discount anyone 60% and I have had nothing but cheek off them and never phone back when said they would so I contacted the CEO who phoned back immediately after receiving my email but I was out so he's phoning again today so I will see what happens

Sigh, just spoke to someone on 03456 049 049 and they say it's a Microsoft issue and to call them. Going to have to go into the store I think.

Does anyway have the original link so I can look up the cached page to print and take into store?

ok i emailed them today and they emailed me back informing me that office is on this laptop as they emailed the suppliers to ask and if im still unable to access it then to go into the store and they will do it for me. I politely rang them to tell them it is not on the product and that i cant make it in to the store in time for christmas, they refunded £60, thankfully

15 Dec 15 #56
I 'emailed' them using the online contact form on their website last Monday, I sent it to the online store because I'd seen the advert online and just gone to buy it in store when they sold out online.
I had a polite email back saying they'd forward it to the store where I bought it and they'd respond within 2 days, but so far nothing. I sent a polite reply Sunday checking they had sent it on. Still waiting.

I too had been trying to activate office and thought perhaps you needed an ms account to activate it and hadnt got around to creating one. Pretty disappointing that its offered with office and now all of a sudden the product has disappeared off their site and they seem to be covering their tracks.

I've had a little moan at them and will see what happens. I reckon they knew of this issue when they sold it as a black friday deal as people are less likely to complain when its almost half price.
zaheer2003
9 Dec 15 #46
The original John Lewis page can still be found on google cache, which shows the price as £179.99, but in the description is does say that office 365 is included.

It's strange that they mentioned it by accident as I've seen it on notebookcheck review site (which reviewed this laptop 3 months ago) which says that it comes with office. Even lenovos own site says it comes with office, even today. Check out the link below:-

http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/ideapad/100-series/100s-11-inch/
https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-IdeaPad-100-305-500-Edge/Lenovo-100s-Office-365-key/m-p/2220154

I don't think they've got a leg to stand on, we should all threaten to contact trading standards/send our laptops back to them.

PS: Does anyone else have a rough central area on their mouse touchpad and the rest is smooth? Mine has it and when I slide my finger over it, my finger slows down, and sometimes the mouse taps/movements don't register in this area.
faithlessworld

Hi chrissym46, any update on this? I've been trying to work out what I'm doing wrong to not be able to activate the free year!
chrissym46 to faithlessworld
9 Dec 15 #45
johnlewis technical team says it was and printing error and dosent come with it, and john lewis customer services says it didnt say it and as theyve removed it from there site its hard to prove, and they wont do anything about it, it they dont give up the correct reply today where going trading standards, will let u know
zaheer2003
7 Dec 15 #44
1)Also said it came with McAfee but no sign of that either on the laptop

2) My mouse is jumpy and the central area of the mouse pad has developed a rough texture where it no longer senses finger movements.

Think I'll be sending this back and try to get the hp stream or Asus x205. Shame because I liked the design of it.
zaheer2003
4 Dec 15 #42
How is the performance? I tried using a hp stream (similar machine) the other day and even when idling it was using 50% ram and 60% cpu. When I opened a 3 tabs in Firefox cpu was at 99% and memory at 80% and it froze.

It was totally sluggish in use and really frustrating.

Does this behave similarly?

Do these have a SATA or mSATA connection for the main storage? For £99.99 they'd be an even better buy if you could fire in a bigger SSD!
m1keyp1key to bleachershane
26 Nov 15 #7
Neither i would of thought. You expand storage by microsd or usb
zaheer2003 to bleachershane
27 Nov 15 #31
No, it probably hasn't even got a sata header on the mobo. The storage is only 32GB internal (like a flashcard) and can be expanded with microsd card.

This is only for a bit of web browsing and email. It is not for games, 1080p videos, or 10 browser tabs! Do one thing at a time and it'll be OK, after all this has the same processor as a tablet in it. Does that make sense?
repouk to bleachershane
27 Nov 15 1 #36
Hard wired eMMC, they are only expandable via the microSD card slot.

It's basically a Windows tablet (think of the Linx / Connect 10) but with a built in keyboard. They aren't mega fast but quick enough for most users considering the price. I find that I can have Firefox (multiple tabs with heavy graphics), MediaMonkey running and Excel open and usable all at the same time. There's less lag on these than there is with the Galaxy Note 8 I have if that helps..

The best kind of device for children is a proper PC. It has many advantages:-

They can sit at a desk, better posture, better division between playtime/worktime, better screen brightness so eyes are not straining (cheap laptops = poor screens), can monitor how much time and what they are doing (easy for them to take laptop to bedroom and be on sites that are not child friendly).

Encourage children to use a desktop = it's better for them and better for you, the parent.

Since the model number is 100s, you missed a great opportunity for a pun there.
