Maybe. There have been some games recently which have enjoyed >4 threads, even with those being via Hyperthreading.
Fallout 4 and Ass Creed: Syndicate also show some gains in i7s vs i5s. You're not going to be bottlenecking any single card with an i5 though, and I doubt many people are running SLI 980 Tis for 1080p. Above 1080p, the GPU(s) are always likely to be the limiting factor.

Yes. Definitely. But it means running the older platform (1150 socket) so your motherboard would be less 'upgradable' in the future..

Yesterdays screenie in post 3 = 2 to 3 dec, if you may more for postage = 30 nov.
Is in stock and is from Amazon.fr not a reseller on there.
Possibly cheaper if you have one of those credit cards which charge less or nothing for currency conversion, my screenie is using Amazon currency converting option which IIRC doesn't give as good a rate but isn't bad.
Next best at the moment is Scan £237.59 if you qualify for free delivery via being a hexus / avf forum member.

Thanks mate that's an interesting table. But, seems that's at the stock speed - I understand they can both be overclocked to about 4.5Ghz. Reckon the older i7 would still have an edge?
Also what exactly do you think I'd potentially miss out on with the older motherboard? I'm right on the fence atm as building my first PC, probably leaning towards the newer board tbh.
If I see an i7-6700K for less than £275 that'll be tempting but I can't see that happening really, having followed the prices for a few weeks now...
