This damn good value they are on sale most places between £149-£160, it's factory refurbished and sold by Humax direct, I ordered one last night for delivery Tuesday.

Much difference between this model and the HDR-1000S model £99 refurb deal recently?

Also I'm thinning of ditching sky. Is there any easy way to still be and to watch my recordings on the sky+ box, or coy them off in a watchable further, after I cancel?

The advantage of freesat recorders is that they are cheaper, and if you're ditching Sky, definitely the way to go. As for watching after you cancel I seem to remember you can't , could someone confirm this please.

yep once your sky subscription ceases then your sky box effectively becomes a dumb box, just good for watching free to air channels

Had a Human free view box from BT but died after about 2years. It was the model before this one. Also it took ages to switch on. Use a refurbished Huawei one now which looks better and switches on faster. They can be had for about £85 from Amazon or Ebay (same seller but can't remember their name; model number is the same as from Richer Sounds). Also as it's Youview it's the same menu's etc. Wish it had WiFi though

Id be vary wary of this box.

My dad has one and its much much slower than my several years old Humax hdrfoxt2.

It takes about 20 seconds to turn on! Longer if you have powrrsave turned on
My box takes 3 seconds before you get a picture with powersave.

It also seems to have a major flaw where it can't handle errors in the signal very well and you get entire picture freeze every few seconds.

Rewind to where it froze and you can see the slight pixelation in the video.

My HDR fox t2 on the same aerial is rock solid.

I bought one of these on the first day they were sold. It's been excellent, fast & reliable.

If you leave Sky you can't save the recordings, but should you rejoin they will become active again.

At the moment Sky are letting lapsed boxes record for 6 months 'free'. In effect, almost a Humax freesat box for 6
months.

not seen the BT one for less than £148.

Bought the Humax one a while back, found it very noisy and it died after powering it off at night.

Had one for a few years and ordered one again last week, should arrive today. Like most humax boxes they are not without problems mind - so make sure you have latest software and try to keep it switched to standby when not in use and preferably in an open cabinet with plenty of airflow as they are prone to overheat (esp in summer). When they overheat it causes recordings failed and more signal loss type issues. Try to position it on its own rather than on top of other heat generating equipment.

You can watch existing recordings for 6 months but not the previously subscribed channels recordings, ie: Sky 1, Movies, Sports etc. So all BBC ITV etc previous recordings can still be viewed & new ones recorded.

I haven't used the box for 12 months, they emailed me several weeks ago & when I connected up the box it recorded all ITV/BBC etc.

I'd go for Freeview (Youview) over Freesat. the picture quality on Freesat may have the edge, but the menu's, channel order etc. is much better on YouView. I have both btw. wasn't there some sort of issue on audio pass through on this model, i.e the unit has to be swiched on. Not sure, never had one but something to check out perhaps. Ps, answer to earlier comment - my Youview box (a Humax) still has playable recordings from late '13).

Arrived today. Sadly I didn't use the code :disappointed: Still, a great price... provided it lasts as long as my T2 HDR. It's finally got a bit flaky and now seems to crash whenever I use the Humax portal to access BBC iplayer after a minute or two. Same thing happens if accessing files from DLNA-friendly devices like my synology diskstation via the home network. Hopefully this newer version will be just as reliable. Certainly I like the interface as it's almost the same as the older HDR T2. With so much on demand content from the likes of Now TV and catch up services, provided your broadband connection is good enough, the case for recording programmes is much less compelling than it used to be....
