Firstly, credit to trending1950 who alerted me to this item at Ao.com on another listing.

Hisense curved 4k UHD K720 TV with full array local dimming (better blacks - possible HDR support) Quad core processor, UHD Upscaling, HEVC (H.265), Local Dimming, 3D Digital Comb Filter & MEMC for £698

2 year warranty as standard with hisense and can make longer with them.

even better, until the end of play today use code BOXING50 for £50 off!!

also 1% quidco - with the code!

The 65" is 999 at the moment on an amazon deal (different thread) and red hot!

I have bought this, have the k321 50" which has showed me hisense are for real, could not resist this!

If the display is not only 10 bit but also a Rec. 2020 (short for “ITU-R Recommendation BT.2020”) colourspace, and has a EOFT (Electro-optical Transfer Function) that complies with SMPTE ST 2084, then it could comply with HDR10 Media Profile, and there you are — HDR as we will know it. Note that Rec. 2020 has two possible resolutions — the 4K we see being sold in televisions today 3840 × 2160 and the future 8K resolution of 7680 × 4320 — either of which are strictly 16:9 and nothing else (ie, no digital cinema ratios or anything fancy to argue over whether it’s “proper” 4K or not).

I'm interested in this TV as an alternative to the much more pricey LG OLED TV's I had been considering.

I haven't pulled the plug yet for these reasons:
- There are some issues being reported in this Avforums thread - Folks are having trouble with the set displaying a 4K 50/60hz signal properly, for example. I believe a fix is promised in a future firmware update though. Some people are also complaining about lack of 1:1 4K pixel mapping when connected to a PC and there are a few isolated reports of poor uniformity and motion.
- I haven't seen a single professional review on the TV, so I don't really know how accurate the colours really are.
- Slight anxiety around long term reliability. I have absolutely know idea how good Hi-sense are in this regard.

It can be disabled, I personally prefer it enabled as it makes a big difference with blacks

It means Full Array Local Dimming, here is a description of local dimming where it works and where it doesn't >

http://www.rtings.com/tv/learn/what-is-local-dimming

"Conclusion
Unless it is a full array LED TV with a good implementation of local dimming, skip that feature. It does help with the blacks, but it can also create a blooming/halo effect. Local dimming is even less useful for edge-lit LED TVs (most of them), because it cannot dim targeted portions of the screen."

FALD is yet another buzz word in the audio visual world, one that sounds good on paper but isn't on many TVs. I'd read reviews of this TV if there are any that test FALD on this set, if it's no good then you want the option to disable it.

I have to say that compared to the Tv its replaced (A 50 Inch Samsung Plasma thats about 4 years old although it did cost £1500 at the time) the picture is terrible. I tried using the settings on Av Forums, and found the picture too dark for my taste.

HD channels are okay, but you can't seem to move them to replace the SD channels. SD channels look really bad, they are very soft with really bad colour. If I get chance I'll take pictures of my old Samsung and this one. My missues summed it up today when she came home from work, "Did you sort the new tv out", "Why love whats up", "The Picture was ****", "Ah yes petal, thats because it was on the SD channel, your used to the HD channel"

Tomorow will be a challenge of getting her to type 101 into the remote for the time being.

What I'm saying is, I bought this for the 4k side of things, and the curved tv's in currys suckered me in to the look. With 4k yes this tv works well, as it does with normal HD. But throw in the awful SD tuner, the lack of 4k Youtube, limited smart apps.Every thing is reliant on a firmware update that may never come (4k Youtube, amazon etc) I would avoid this for now. I suspect it will drop even more in price soon. I'm keeping it but its going in the back room.

Whilst not the fault of Hisense, and more logitech, this TV doesn't work well with the Harmony remotes. Its listed in the remotes list, but won't change Inputs with activities. It's only just been added with Logitech and will hopefully be looked at and fixed soon, but for now my Harmony's no use with this tv.

I had mine delivered this afternoon and compared to my previous 40" philips she is a monster, the wife hasnt seen it yet tho. Just setting it up,going to pinch a few settings from the avforums.

7 Jan 16 #53
Yeah I've just found that out on the Av forums. Its not a major issue for me as it plays 4k fine of an external drive or Plex via DNLA

7 Jan 16 #51
Mine came last night and its all good, my only niggle is getting 4k content on youtube, if you put picture info on in the settings then it shows 4k clips as only being 1280x720. I'm new to this 4k thing but surely thats not 4k. I can't see any settings to raise the resolution either.

doesn't seem to work anymore.

Can anyone with the TV tell me how wide it actually is, and the width of the stand? thanks a lot

edit: and also, what's the actual refresh rate of this. shows as SMR 400?

Thanks very much for that.
I like an explanation that I can understand
wackyraces
4 Jan 16 2 #48
An 8 bit panel is only capable of displaying around 16.8 million colours and has limited contrast bandwidth. FRC is Frame Rate Control, which helps enhance he colours. A 10 bit panel is capable of displaying around a billion colours and can display HDR ( High Dynamic Range). This 10-bit content can have more detail in the bright areas of the image and / or more details in the dark parts of the image. It can also have a greater range between the brightest and darkest parts of the image. It also makes the image appear more realistic. Basically you will get a far better image displayed on the TV with 10 bit and HDR. It's all very confusing as technology is moving so fast. Quantum dot is another technology that can be used in TVs as well.

I maybe completely wrong on this but that's my understanding of it after trying to work out which TV I should buy to replace my 6 year old Samsung.
poisondwarf
4 Jan 16 #47
!0 bit panel?
8 bit panel with FRC?
Also what is HDR please?
wackyraces
4 Jan 16 #46
I have emailed Hisense about the specifications on the model and was informed that the 65" is a 10 bit panel and the 55" is an 8 bit panel (with FRC). I did ask about HDR and was informed that it may or may not appear on this model, no decision has been made yet. The 65XT910 will get HDR in February when the new firmware is released. For the money they are great value.

Ordered from AO.Com and it arrived yesterday. I'm very impressed with the TV, the picture quality is superb, particularly the HD and UHD, takes a little time to get the settings right, but once done its excellent. Id never heard of Hisense before but the quality of the TV for the money is phenomenal and I thoroughly recommend. Thanks to the OP for the heads up.

Can anyone recommend a wall mount? Thanks
me_lee to Kuanshu
28 Dec 15 1 #29
As tempted as I was to say "I recommend getting a wall mount," I can't, because I don't. Curved TV's look weird on walls. Ever noticed that in your local Curry's they show them on their stand as part of a display instead of wall mounted like all the others?

That said, if you really want to then wouldn't any old VESA 400 mount do? The TV is listed as 22.5Kg without the stand attached  so make sure you get one (and fixings) that are strong enough.

edit: A bit of Googling and some curved TV's don't look too bad on a wall - not for me though. Oh, and spot the mistake here...

I have the K321 50" and it is exceptional, even my wife commented on how much better it is on HD/UHD than what it replaced (and that cost twice as much, a sony X85 series) and the K321 is the entry level model, this one is higher end

Was seriously tempted by this, but really wanted passive 3d in the specs. Not bothered by the curved screen either, all the ones ive seen have a fair amount of screen glare. Hisense seem a great new alternative to the usual top players.

27 Dec 15 #23
Not really a fan of curve screen, but don't mind to have it if don't need to pay for extra for it. I don't really mind about the specs too much either as long as a TV that is 4K and reliable, preferably with longer warranty period. Since most of the time I am just using to watch movie only.

Discount code worked for me. I'm sending back a Sony 49" 8307 that suffered awful light bleed in all corners and vertical banding on sports. The light bleed was the worse thing and I am hoping this FLAD display wont have that.

Ordered the KD-55X8005C from Amazon on a lightning deal yesterday for £599 (see elsewhere in HUKD). I know this is a better TV on pen and paper, but comments from existing owners would be most welcome.

Also, how is the motion handling? Not interested in gaming (input lag not a problem for me) but sports and fast moving actions.
