Watched a program recently that went into the process of making gin, and because of the way it's made, they will all taste the same, no matter what they cost. Gin is gin is gin basically.

More into wine than spirits, but I have to disagree. Cheaper spirits are not particularly distinctive, but I would say there is a marked taste differential in Gin between Gordons, Tanqueray, Bombay Sapphire and Hendricks for instance.

Did you taste the program?
Gin is not gin is not gin. Bombay saphire does not taste like Hendricks
and that's why I like Hendricks
24 is an OK price - 27 is regular.

I saw that programme and that is not what they said.
They said all the mainstream makers use the same base alcohol as the starting point before putting there own botanics and twist on it.
All the small batch speciality makers don't use this alcohol but make their own. Read up about Adnams or Chase for example.

I can assure you this isn't the case. The mass-produced rubbish might use a base alcohol from somewhere and add their different botanicals, but the decent producers start with their own spirit. Try Brecon Gin, for instance. It's superb, though I place Hendricks slightly above it. I like my spirits neat; that way nothing else interferes with the aroma and taste.

You clearly don't know what gin is. All manufacturers take a flavourless base vodka. Normally this is a grain vodka. It basically is just 90% Ethanol then the magical bit happens depending on which botanicals are added in which proportions changes the flavour massively. Not to mention how they get these flavours in. Bombay infuse the alcohol with the botanicals in the while the alcohol is a gas. The clip you are talking about is for vodka which is exactly the same as they add nothing and try to remove everything but the base sprit.

The essential thing about Hendricks (for people with celiac disease), is it's gluten free due to the processes they use (other gins aren't). I had to be bereft of gin for years until I found this out - brilliant deal for me. Thanks and spread the word.

I highly recommend you try a few different gins with the same tonic water
then try your favourite gin with different tonic waters
I'll be surprised if you don't settle on Hendricks & Fever Tree tonic (especially the elderflower tonic)
Enjoy
