A mini PC with Intel Baytrail Z3735F Quadcore Px.

Similar deal is posted on HUKD for £65.20 but the key facts are:
- Official Windows 10 install
- Processor architecture supports H.264 encoding/decoding in hardware
- Essential for game streaming
- Option for 5000mAH battery & 64GB SSD
- £71 for this option
- Online reviews say this is slow access
- I suspect it's there to compensate for no TF card (uSD) slot on the chassis
- Priority direct mail (7-15 days) is less than £1 extra
- Expedited delivery (4-7 days) to UK is proportional to how many you buy (1 = £11, 3 = £4.50)
- Delivery insurance is available & proportional to how many you buy (1=£1.66, 3=£3.67)

My current uses for this are:
- Running Kodi
- Running Steam Big Picture to stream from main gaming PC
- Running Xbox app in Windows 10
- This streams from Xbox one, allowing remote power on & power off
- Xbox 360 wireless adapter (£4.50) for gaming controller
- DigiFlex remote (has app switch button) (£3.99)
- No keyboard or mouse attached, Win 10 Home does not come with RDP so using Google Remote Desktop is a good free way around this (RDP wrapper can be problematic due to the default login mechanism which is setup)
- A cheap mini USB hub (£2) can be used to extend ports if required
- http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00AFYCBR6?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00

My experiences are:
- Kodi is fast and smooth for media streaming (SD & HD)
- Control from phone or DigiFlex remote
- Steam is fine for 1080p @ 60fps, although 30fps is recommended as setup is tweaked
- Xbox App is great, although the controllers don't navigate the app yet (360 controller)
- The DigiFlex remote can be used for this (mouse pointer thumb stick)
- There are apps which can 'auto click' certain areas to launch the connection automatically
- The box can run a little warm, a lot of people on the web comment on this but I'm not convinced it's a problem
- The PSU has an EU adapter which can disconnect easily, but I found that using insulation tape was an easy fix (5V 2.5A adapter required otherwise)
- I have the Cenovo mini PC which I have compared this to
- The performance is equivalent (same Px, RAM size & ROM size)
- The Voyo is better looking & slightly smaller
- The Wifi in the Cenovo & Voyo can be intermittent (speed fluctuations)
- Some reviews online state the same issue, especially if using BT at the same time
- I mainly use LAN or HomePlugs so this may need more testing by other users
- Battery is a nice feature but I've never found a use for it (i.e. moving without reboot, use in the car with seat screen, charging phone when on the move)
- These are some of the applications I can think of but in my opinion they're not practical

Overall I think this is a great option for small clients (Media & gaming) hooked up to your TV with a central processing option for Game/Media hosting.

I haven't used this a day to day PC (which is why I don't have the 64GB SSD extension). I don't see why this can't run Office apps or browse the web well, if the Linx Tablet can do then these little boxes can do it.

I had one of these from gearbest. It worked for a day, then failed. Costs more
To send it back to China than it costs for the device.
Nice small pc, but the internal
Components are cheap. Quick enough for Kodi but that's it. If you want to use it as a pc get a nuc.

Received mine and it works very well (no battery issue)

Make sure to perform a window update before using it. Makes a huge different

For those wondering 28.7GB is usable space after updating to Windows 10 and deleting all the old temp files etc (previous windows install and update files) brought the os to 6.5GB total. Means 22.2GB Free Space.... 10GB lol

22.2GB should be plenty for a basic use PC (for sub 60 pounds what do you expect exactly?!?!?!)

Means you could install office and a bunch of other applications, maybe chuck a tf card/MicroSD card (64GB is about £17 for a decent UHS-I card) and save your documents etc to this if space is a concern

I just bought a different model from the EU Warehouse for 60ish (http://www.gearbest.com/tv-box/pp_166769.html), ordered Sunday arrived Tuesday, much stronger battery... gotta say impressed with this also, for office use or in my case Emulation (fitting it into a PSX chasis) its excellent and good value for money also. I paid for the speed of delivery, no duties, tax etc

Its windows 8.1 with bing, it has RECOVERY mode and when you update to 10 for free (why would you not?) it deletes the recovery crap even if there is any

I don't need to factor in for something I ACTUALLY have and have used, as well... I am going off fact not paper knowledge. Hope that helps clarify things

Ah, in that case any of them would be fine. I would probably go for either the M8s or something like this for those purposes as they are higher spec'd than the Pi and should handle all of that perfectly fine, plus have a bit more flexibility out of the box. I would only go for the Pi if you have an idea for a unique case you want to do with it, or plan to try your hand at doing a bit of a project out of it, it is a great device but as all of these are similar prices, I would just go for one that is complete out of the box for those needs.

If you are more used to the Android interface I would go with the M8s, it comes with a remote I believe, however that is unlikely to get major OS updates. On the other hand this Voyo or similar device will get all the OS updates for Windows 10 that come out, and you could even do Steam and Xbox One streaming on them. My personal choice would probably be a Windows box, but that is a personal preference.

Without knowing your needs, nobody can give any real informative advice. If you want to play Android games, the M8s, if you want to stream Xbox One games, the Voyo V2, if you want to start a project, probably the RPi.

Ram is not the problem on the LINX 10, its the weak processor. I've got two, I got them both from the staples deal this time last year. I think they're a brilliant bit of kit for what we all paid, but performance wise on windows 10 vs the performance the exact same hardware see's on Android OS, they perform pretty bad.

Saying that I still really like playing about with them, and im hopefully going to be sticking Android on one over Christmas for a bit of testing. I've been seeing people suggesting they've done it on the unofficial Linx forum.

Did you factor in the factory recovery image if it has one?

If it does have a recovery image can you tell us how big it is and whether its supplied on a DVD separately or on the inbuilt 32GB hdd?

Awesome post, but this little thing is going to be well slow and have around 10GB or spare HDD after the official Windows 10 install.

A good comparison is the Linx 10 tablet speed and capacity wise, as it has near identical processor, ram and other spec.

Its so 2014 hardware wise..

ok firstly 32gb of storage, means about 26-28gb of formatted and usable space
windows 10 home takes a whopping 6gb of this.... I have 20gb left on my mini pc same exact spec (well it also has a battery), oh and its really responsive. I was modding an old PSX to house it but find the device to be quite attractive as is so cant bring myself to rip it to pieces to fit. hence finding this thread (want to buy another).

If your low on space there is a thing called DISK CLEANUP, run this and at the bottom it mentions system files, you tick all the previous windows etc and it removes all your 8.1 with bing build. I would even run this after the 1511 update for windows 10 and recover 3gb of storage back.

Oh this isn't just on tablets it works on desktops and laptops too, after all its all the same os. I just recovered 22gb back on my laptop doing this as I hadn't since updating to 10 and doing the 1511 update... why waste space?

How to from Microsoft:

A guide with screenshots to make it easier:

http://www.nextofwindows.com/how-to-remove-windows-old-when-disk-cleanup-not-showing-previous-windows-installations

Your all welcome

P.S. if your after something cheap for the tv for Kodi or emulation these devices are amazing, if your after a powerhouse to play the latest games at 4k, you are obviously gonna need to spend a TON more money than this. In short, AWESOME DEVICES AWESOME PRICES

I can confirm that, having struggled for a week with a Sumvision Cyclone Mini Desktop PC to the same spec. frustratingly laggy surfing the net and my wife complaining that Facebook games run too slowly. I tried all possible settings and in the end gave up with it. Yes you do definitely need 4GB of RAM for Windows to run reasonably.

I would not advise getting that M8 box. I bought an M8S last month from Amazon & returned it 2 days later. I found it clunky, counter intuitive and the preinstalled Kodi setup was dreadful with most addons broken. This could have been the seller I got it from (clone box & bad setup), but its my experience. God bless Amazon Prime for its awesome returns mechanism.

The comment above is great advice from BigYo(Ho-Ho-Ho)Speck (see what I did there for Xmas?!) if all you want is Kodi. Check out the mobile apps (Kore or Yatse), they are a great feature.

Once you have Kodi installed there are great tutorials on the web with screenshots & step by step instructions.

Good luck

Hey guys. I'm new to Kodi. Ideally I wouldn't want to spend more than £100, the sweet spot would be sub £60.

Is Android or Windows better? What do you recommend?

Would running the full fat windows be of any use for you with any specific applications?

If not then I think Android is better suited for a dumb-smart device that you just want big icons to click without feeling like you really should be using a mouse and keyboard for it. KODI is KODI once it's running on top, You'd be fine with something like the £50 ROKU 2 from Tesco if you don't want much more from it.

http://www.tesco.com/direct/roku-2-4205eu-hd-digital-media-streamer/178-7427.prd?skuId=178-7427&pageLevel=sku

Personally I don't want full fat windows on my tv. I've a PC and hybrid laptop/tablet device running that. I want as dumb a smart device on my tv as possible so that if someone who isn't familiar with it wants to watch something I can just leave them to figure it out without giving a tutorial.

18 Dec 15 #140
What do you need the 2GB extra RAM for?
BigYoSpeck to Tequila
18 Dec 15 1 #141
It's actually 1gb of ram for 32 bit and 2gb for 64 bit and a lot of people will back up the fact that Windows is actually quite usable with those quantities so long as you are realistic that you're not going to have a video playing while keeping 20 browser tabs open.
preecey to Tequila
18 Dec 15 #143
If you're using a mechanical drive, then your argument is valid. Using eMMC drives or whatever solid state tech these use, 2GB RAM is plenty.

Heck, even my Tesco Connect tablet (similar to a Linx 7) gets by just fine with 1GB - because it has a solid state storage chip. Boots up in under 15 seconds and handles HD YouTube videos perfectly fine.

I'd talk to a Microsoft rep about it but so far as I'm aware in Eurpoe Microsoft must permit the transfer of a software license between systems. The important thing here is for a software license, something Windows 10 changes as it's a subscription tied to the 'life of the system' so tranfer the Windows 8 license if I'm correct and it can be done.

But talk to a Microsoft rep about it, they will be completely forthcoming if it is something they are obliged to allow.

18 Dec 15 #137
Well, you could try, but i wouldn't guarantee it would work. The supplier may have activated a copy of Windows 8.1 before upgrading to 10, so they key may already be tied to the machine

tommydowp to maxwell689
18 Dec 15 #129
No idea, it could have OEM limitations where the license is legally tied to the device so migration is not allowed. This is not mentioned in the documentation with the Cenovo or the Voyo so you'd need to check with the seller to get a definite answer.

With Windows 8, it was possible to create a local account without signing in to the machine:
http://www.hanselman.com/blog/HowToSignIntoWindows8Or81WithoutAMicrosoftAccountMakeALocalUser.aspx
Pretty sure if you do not connect to a network the OS will not activate. You can then use something like magicjellybean to extract the key. I've done this on a Windows 8 machine and used the key on another pc. Of course, you then can't use the key on any other machine, including the device you took the key from.

I went down exactly the same route!
- Started with 3 Rasp Pi B Models for Kodi (Overclocked to 900MHz)
- Then added 2 Rasp Pi 2 for Kodi (really smooth for Kodi with OpenElec)
- Then added Moonlight for game streaming, but the tweaking was doing my head in

MS offered streaming for Xbox One (Beta) in Q2 2015 and I accepted I needed Win10 on my clients rather than tinkering with Raspberry Pi hardware & OS.

Since then it's been much more straight forward, it's great being able to just turn on the TV in any room and all your media & gaming is right there. The next step is testing controlling/streaming over the web.

Good luck with your setup

Yup, something doesn't seem quite right here as all my devices run fine under Win10:
- Media/Gaming Server (as you'd expect) - i5, 8GB RAM, GTX980, Samsung SSD EVO PRO 1TB
- Linx 10 tablet (O365, Web, media/game streaming) - Z3735F, 2GB RAM, 32GB Storage
- Linx 1010B tablet (O365, Web, media/game streaming) - Z3735F, 2GB RAM, 32GB Storage
- Cenovo mini PC (media/game streaming) - Z3735F, 2GB RAM, 32GB Storage
- Voyo mini PC (media/game streaming) - Z3735F, 2GB RAM, 32GB Storage

Only issue with the above is adapters & streaming over Wifi for tablets (see previous comments) but it certainly all does work if your Wifi is stable.

With multiple instances of Kodi throughout the house there is an option for a central database using MySQL..for those who really want their other half to think they're a geek!!

Is it easy to link to use for Steam Link OP?. How have you set it up?
tommydowp to D3anz
18 Dec 15 2 #118
You just need to install Steam & then run in Big Picture mode. There are many guides on web for setting up Steam for streaming from another PC.

On my clients I have Chrome (for Google desktop access), Xbox App, Kodi, & Steam installed (nothing else). Once you launch steam in big picture mode (you can create a shortcut for this by adding the bigpicture switch at the end of the command) you can then navigate using a controller (I use an Xbox360 controller).

So a simple setup is:
- Basic remote for navigating windows (you can even install an app to use your mobile phone)
- Put the shortcuts on the start menu (tablet view) or task bar (desktop view)
- Launch your application directly from there
- For Kodi you can use your mobile as a remote
- For Steam Big Picture you can use your game controller
- For Xbox App you need to navigate using your remote for windows
- Once in streaming mode for Xbox One you can use your game controller

I hope this helps.

Also, to add, my homemade HTPC:

Boots so fast that the TV isn't powered on by the time it boots from cold.

It's a Dell XPS 12 with i5 and SSD. I also have a brand new HP G2 455. Both outspec this machine Neither came with bloatware (Surprisingly). It is the RAM that is the bottleneck. Windows 10 uses about 1.5gb just standing by and Chrome uses over 100mb per tab and is very clunky to start up. I'd say 4gb is the absolute minimum for a modern Windows box.

I would NOT buy anything from Gearbeast - I bought 2 Pipo duel boot tablet / pc things recommended on here.
One was DOA and they have had me going in loops filling forms about the problem - with NO way to get any return or refund / replacement details. If you buy a faulty product you pay all postage return to wherever it is - as no location can be found.
Writing to them or trying to use any of the help links or contact details results in another link to the same form you would of filled in 3 times.
Right now I have a dead pc and no way or getting a refund or anything but an automatic reply via form letters.
I would not trust GEARBEAST with any but the cheapest purchase you dont mind throwing away or writing off the cost.
Please be warned about how they seem to operate - I am contacting PAYPAL to see it they can stir them up somehow - as it stands Im down nearly £100 for a DOA pc I cant even fond out how to return.
Advise stop posting links to BARGAINS on this site unless its SITE people themsevles using this site to sell duff products in bulk

Sorry guys just to clarify - will the battery on this act as a battery backup if the power is cut? Surely this could be a really good basic home server if that's the case? If people think it could work as a good home server I'd certainly consider one.

Only has a USB connection though and I don't know how many portable 2.5" USB powered drives you'd get away with running from it.

Plus I don't think I'd trust the reliability of it.

For a server I'd either just get a UPS or push came to shove an old laptop. Even one with a broken screen as long as it has an alternate video out.

Actually according to this it does http://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/the-voyo-v2-mini-pc-is-a-desktop-that-thinks-its-a-laptop/ - might have answered my own question. However, it doesnt act as a UPS which makes its usefulness questionable.

The problem with the cheap tablets, is often they are charged through the USB port, which will often refuse to charge fast enough when connected via a hub with other devices. I used to have one of the Linx 8 machines running my automated lighting, security and solar panel data collection, which meant I had an external disk drive and network port plugged into a powered hub, that also charged, but unfortunately due to the lower charge rate, worked fine initially, but then I'd notice the tablet would shut down once or twice a month, literally a few extra lines of code had tipped the thing over the edge, it was now consuming fractionally more power than the charging provided, so over a number of days it would end up depleting the battery. It was like the scene on Apollo 13 trying to get enough power from the batteries.

In the end I use an older Dell tablet which has a separate power supply, so the issue no longer exists, but clearly a box that contains a separate power supply, on board networking and a fully fledged usb interface would have worked far better, with fewer problems.

Rather than saying a tablet is a better option, it's just an alternative, with perhaps some advantages and some disadvantages. I think the problem with this box is the potential for reliability problems, rather than not having a screen.

1. Try a branded power supply, from Apple or Samsung or similar rated 2A. Fixed for me on an old similar box.
2. If you are using keyboard/mouse put the nano adapted on a short USB extension cable, sometimes the Wifi and nano (or bluetooth) interfere because they are so close on the box board.

Same Px (Intel Z3735) although the Voyo has more RAM (2GB rather than 1GB). On the Scan website the HP Stream 7 (refurb) is £50 but it doesn't say if it has an option for HDMI connectivity, so if it can't connect to a TV you would need to figure out a way to 'sling' the picture (which could add latency/jitter)

I bought one of these two weeks ago from Gearbest, and it was £59 with the added 64gb memory/SSD. It was delivered in three or four days from what looked like an English warehouse, and the device has been excellent. Don't expect it replace your desktop PC, but for browsing and what I use it for (Kodi/XBMC), I am over the moon with it.
The wifi on my M8 box is awful and loses connection every day and takes ages of mucking about to get it working again, but this box works brilliantly, even on wifi and performs really well, even the Windows 10 licence is legit.

One of my better buys I think, it does get warm, but not hot. And, you can hide it behind your wall mounted TV to reduce clutter.

You never know if these things are any good, or if the reviews you read on the websites that sell are legit (definitely not), but if you are after a windows 10 based unit for Kodi to stream TV shows and films, then this is great for the money.

Hope this helps someone!

I had this discussion offline about the physical size of these miniPCs - you can get them about the size of a USB pen drive, however to me a tablet is much more versatile - as you have a complete solution in your hands, whereas one of these miniPCs needs a power source, input devices and display to set them up (RDP isn't available out of the box either) With a tablet available for a similar price (and yes you can actually buy tablets with full size ports!) I see it as a folly. If they where noticeably cheaper than a tablet I probably would not have bothered posting all these comments...

I just purchased those refurbished Connect tabs from Tescos eBay store (£52.40 for a pair delivered), I upgraded the first one straight away to Windows 10 and installed all the regular desktop apps, it's got HDMI out and came with a micro USB OTG cable. As ever it really depends what you want to use it for - I play Hungry Shark Evolution on mine and notice a little "lag" every now and then. Kodi runs ok, however I stream locally via Wifi and it still artifacts every now & then - it's probably my Wifi connection, I just haven't got around to fully testing it. Youtube videos seem to playback fine. I haven't added a microSD yet, thats my next thing to do... My Hudls seem to work better with Kodi though (Android OS) and they have an HDMI out.

The logic board inside one of these "mini PCs" is exactly the same board in a tablet - the advantage of a tablet is that it already has a screen and an input device. It's not advice I am handing out - I am merely passing comment & knowledge... As this is HotUKDeals I wanted to point out a better deal, which I believe a tablet is (you can disable the tablet display and plug it into your main TV, just as you would one of these mini PCs, I see no benefit in purchasing a mini PC when a tablet can do the same thing. Also the links I provided are for well established UK retailers)

I have a Linx 10 tablet that I could use to stream Xbox One, movies etc, I could even hook it up to the TV via HDMI. The downside comes when I need ethernet (wifi isn't strong enough)......, I'd also need to plug in the game pad (or wireless dongle for the joypad)....so that's two USB devices and an ethernet cable into a tablet that has one micro USB port.....doesn't go. So something like this would allow me to stream.

I have done this with a Linx1010B and the older Linx10. If your wifi is an issue you could try this:

I've never tried an ethernet adapter through a USB hub with an Xbox 360 receiver also hooked up to the hub, so I don't know if the traffic negotiation would affect performance.

I have a 8" Toshiba Encore Windows 10 Tablet with Z3740 chipset, 2GB Ram and 32GB storage. I've also added a 128GB MicroSD, Dualshock 4, Bluetooth Mouse & Keyboard and HDMI Cable. I can basically stream and play XB1 and steam games to the tablet and play them using the DS4 and can also play on a big screen by plugging the tablet in to HDMI.

I've seen these tablets for as little as £59 and I'd much rather one of these than some cheap China box.

Can you carry it in your pocket, take it out and plug it into any normal HDMI cable you find in a TV you happen to want to stream to? A tablet can be setup to give you the main features of a mini PC with adapters ect, but that doesn't make it an exact replacement.

To help those still confused about the difference between this device and a tablet:

- this has a full size HDMI port (no adaptors needed)
- this has a proper Ethernet port(no adaptors needed)
- this has a high power battery and can also charge and power external devices (tablets don't usually have these options)

Different device for different needs.

It's an 8" tablet and while not quite as small as this device I think it's slightly more at home being a portable device than this with having a screen an all!

This device is nothing more than a tablet minus the screen, what I'm suggesting is to consider a branded tablet from a UK seller for a similar price instead. I've owned cheap China tabs etc. In the past and they're tat with warranties that aren't worth chasing up.

And yes it will plug in to any HDMI TV. What exactly can this box do that a Windows Tablet equipped with HDMI, USB and Blue-tooth can't?

They have a display and a touch screen, O365 subscription and are from a UK based company...
Given the similar prices I would steer towards a "standard" tablet, much more versatile. It's not hard to find a tablet with identical spec for very similar money (The Voyo is just a tablet without the display...)
But hey what do I know people are going to nitpick, this is HotUKDeals after all...

It's a shame you've had such a bad experience & they've not done the right thing. I have purchased items from GearBest & DealsMachine before (my Cenovo) and this was fine. I ordered multiple items each time so the orders were over £100, which is why I found this post useful : http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/credit-cards/PayPal-Section75. Anyway, theory & practice aren't always the same but I always remember that the majority of people who provide feedback or have something to say about a company tend to be disgruntled. Of course, this should never be ignored but it is hard to have correct statistics when the majority of good experiences don't always post feedback. The connectivity issue with the wiring to the battery of the Voyo does suggest a batch from the battery supplier / manufacture was faulty. If this worries buyers a similar option is the Cenovo, or the tablets discussed in earlier posts (I did want a wired connection to provide a safety net if WiFi was problematic). USB OTG (should support 50Mb/s min) with an ethernet adapter which tend to cost ~£4 could resolve this and HDMI is always a must.

Anyway, the setup remains the same (if that floats your boat) regardless of device : Kodi for media, Steam for PC game streaming and Xbox One game streaming.

It allows the use of Xbox360 controller. If you install a non-MS receiver you need to 'force' the driver.

Once the dongle & Xbox 360 controller are connected do the following:
1. Open Xbox App & Connect to Xbox One
2. Enable Streaming
The Xbox 360 controller should allow you to now control your Xbox One. It won't allow you to navigate the Xbox App itself however, this only works with official controllers & wireless receivers.

I hope this helps.
