Kept off the 1987 Christmas number one by the Pet Shop Boys and a cover of Elvis's "Always On My Mind".
Got this on CD Single. Great Christmas song.

It got to number 2 on release and was only kept from the #1 spot by the Pet Shop Boys' cover version of "Always on My Mind" (and you had to sell a lot of copies to get into the top ten in those days) so I'm not sure it's fair to say that it died a death!
Best. Christmas. Song. Ever.

The NYPD doesn't have a choir and Shane MacGowan was born on Christmas Day. Just saying
Was lucky enough to see Kirsty perform this live during a Pogues tour in '87, fantastic singer. Her Kite album is well worth a listen.
The first 3 Pogues albums are sheer class and McGowan is lyrical genius considering his normal physical state.

Kirsty MacColl deserves a posthumous accolade of a number one chart record. A brilliant writer and composer, surely (sorely) missed by her fans.
