After the wild goose chase that was the Homebase version of this being reduced to £44.93 but either being out of stock or some other shenanigans, Argos have now got the same product for a bargain £44.99 down from an alleged £89.99
I missed the deal at homebase so bought one via Amazon (for £55) but with the Nationwide £25 off £100 deal.
It's still in the box but after having 2 other De'Longhi's and them being OK quality for the price, this is good value.

Note the 20% off code inserted by the site doesn't seem to be working for this product. Possibly the 20% off code has expired.

the Delonghi EC146 is £45 on Amazon. Looks like the same machine... I wonder if there's any difference. Amazon seems to think it's the newer model. If so, I'm afraid I would have to vote this cold. As the newer model is the same price.

Are these things actually any good apart from being branded or same as other cheaper espresso machines?

What are you comparing it against? Do you have an example?

tassimo and how does it work e. G. Does it require beans or instant coffee or does it matter

Tassimo are different. They take discs. You can use beans in the coffee machine listed here but you'd need to grind them in a separate coffee grinder first. You can also buy ground coffee instead. Just make sure it's suitable for this type of machine. Espresso coffee is best. Instant coffee is not suitable for any machine. You just put that straight into a cup and add hot water. :-)

Beware, option to use pods aswell is not available in this basic model and that is the reason why I didn't buy this model. Will probably go for Delonghi motivo model. Espresso machine is always the best.

Both models are identical in all features apart from POSSIBLY the Argos model not having the pod adaptor. I say possibly because here the 145 states that it has a 1 and 2 cup filter - the 2 cup filter is used for the 146B for pods. Only if you buy the Argos one will you be able to confirm this.
So I think this is just a cunning attempt by De'Longhi, Amazon and Argos to obscure the fact that there are 2 identical products sold under slightly different numbers so they can each claim that their products are different and stop price matching. A practice that should be outlawed but goes on all the time.
Anyway, Amazon have just price matched my £55 146B with their dropped in price 146B so I'm happy.

I don't want to squash the OP's deal, it might be good against the alleged RRP, but against the .....how can I say this....the better stuff, Delonghi are cr*p. Just my experience. Your experience may vary of course and I respect that  Basically, I think its an average price for what you'll get. We have Delonghi stuff in the kitchen and its.....well, its just poor next to the Krups stuff. Don't hate me for saying that, I'm skint but I love a good coffee.....hence I'd save for a better machine personally. Not voted either way because of this. ...

Just to pre-empt some questions, our Delonghi kit is loud, vibrates way too much, feels cheaply made, and the sodding capsules keep getting stuck if you forget to take them out immediately.
