What are the realistic alternatives? With the weather, we have to dry clothes indoors, it also means we can't have windows constantly open.
Something has to give, be it a tumble drier or dehumidifier or just have damp.

Been looking for a dehumidifier, not many good deals around but this is excellent. I like how it can be placed against a wall, most can't be due to air flow. Ordered.

In terms of noise levels they seems to be the same to me too

I had 2x DEM10 from Amazon, sent them back due to noise, replaced with 2x DES12, sent them back as useless compared to the DEM10. I am now back with the DEM10 and just put up with the noise.

Thanks OP. Bought this a few weeks ago for £110 and I've just contacted Amazon and they eventually refunded me the difference

Good price but this model is very poor, pulls around a third of the old DEM10 model.

well if this is true I'm glad still use my old one. You would think newer machine would be more efficient..

I am not so sure. I have both of them. Now DES12 is in the room where DEM10 was and it is doing pretty well. Probably as good as DEM10

Our housing standards need to be blamed. Felt Old houses have damp problems , read somewhere that new houses for insulated for saving heat and energy are also prone for damp as moisture rises ., it stays and damp starts ...
thanks OP , Have bought one , posting one for myself for 89 pounds last time , I missed the deal . But now happy that I waited .

Its slightly concerning that people use these so much. You may well be better looking at the house ventilation arrangements and seeing if they can be improved first before relying on a dehumidifier.

No proper isolation within house foundation, bare walls without any warming... and damp spreading like hell

I'm intrigued by this post and was wondering if many of you use these to dry clothes in winter rather than what winchman thinks its being used for?

100%. Put washing on clothes horse, spread nicely, no bits tucked away. use the smallest , warmest room you can close the door on and they work wonders.

I got a DES16E and you can really see the difference. Dont know what I will do without a dehumidifier now.
Not used the DES12 but I assume it will be just as good.

Bought this model last week direct from De-longhi (£89 inc del); good looking but not as good as the previous model (Dem 10....Still using). It has a very fiddly & badly designed water draw and seems to be considerably louder. Good price but has it's limitations.

I was thinking the RRP looked a bit high on the DES12. I paid about £80 for the DEM10 when I bought it (approx 5 years ago)

I've used EBAC Powerdri dehumidifiers before and they've been great - much cheaper buying two than it was to rent a commercial one for 2-3 weeks if you buy at the right time.
These are rated at 18L/day rather than 12L/day of the unit in the deal but they extracted 3 times as much water as the unit in the deal in the same time frame.
I would suggest that the unit in the deal is ok for occasional use but I would look at options from EBAC as an alternative for the same price

I haven't experienced the DEM10 but have a DeLonghi which was 13 years old last week and is permanently plugged in winter and summer and it has been more than excellent. My friend bought this from Delonghi last week and is really impressed with the quietness and the amount of water it is currently extracting. So I suppose, as with all things, different strokes for different folks!!

I've got the DEM10 and am amazed at just how much water it draws up. Tempted to get this one as a second for the laundry room
