They do save your rear and back from spray but not the frame and the wheelsucker behind you!!!

These are meant for spring/summer when you get caught out and just want to save yourself from a bit of spray. In winter you need full mud guards as the roads are always wet even if it hasn't been raining and once they start gritting the roads the salt will eat your components.

I've got one of these, stops the mud flying up your ass and back when cycling. doesn't stop the spray tho.
