This Challenge 500 watt angle grinder is ideal for all your cutting, grinding or polishing needs. It is suitable for light duty grinding and cutting of metal or masonry (you will need to buy an additional cutting guard and disc). Featuring a protective grinding guard, two position auxiliary handle and spindle lock, this efficient 115mm angle grinder operates at 12000 rotations per minute.
now the real tech spec. after 20min of medium cutting 3mm steel about 300mm long this burst into flames in my hands , had to quickly throw it to the ground while on and then pull cord from the wall.
kind of a word of warning , lasted all of 20mins bought new today.

Of all my power tools my angle grinder is the thing I have the greatest deal of fear/respect as serious accidents can very easily happen.
With that in mind I would never recommend buying a cheap one such as this.

I bought it for just one job , I've never needed a grinder in 30 years so thought " way only one job gonna be in shed for next 10 years "
Dangerous these to be fair, luckily I was wearing mechanics gloves with fire resistant palms however it did catch the back of my hand with a burn.

You DO have to show these some respect, especially when cramped under a car at a funny angle, had my Bosch (not that expensive) one as long as I can remember - its one handy tool. I do wear eye protection and thick, thick gloves mind, even then its cut through ever so slightly.
Hot just because its a handy tool.

500w is very low for an angle grinder. Yes it might be OK for light duty but anyone that buys a product like this is at some point going to be tempted to use it for something its not suitable for just because its technically possible.

Still have a B&D Professional 41/2" 450w angle grinder from the eighties, had its brushes changed a few times but it has done tons of heavy duty work on cars and in metal a sculpture workshop and is still grinding away. Quality of motor windings and bearings are far more important that raw wattage unfortunately it's wattage that sells.....bit like megapixels in cameras.

I will admit that is definitely a fair point, i oversimplified, but these days such low power is likely only to be found in low quality junk like this that will also have low quality parts elsewhere. You are probably not going to find anything new with 500w thats build to a reasonable standard... im definitely not a fan of more is better in everything though. In fairness ive never used a 'classic' grinder of good quality with 450w and was basing my comment purely on experience with modern kit (as in me only having seen poor quality grinders with this amount of power and finding them not up to the job). that being said hitachi do a 580w grinder that im sure i would trust.
