Just bought this £279 minus £20 with o2 Priority. Easy set up. Excellent picture quality for the money. A bit quiet if you like lots of volume but all in all a bargain at £259

Hope you enjoy the tv. Money well spent me thinks in comparison for some thing cheap from Turkey or wherever these are made.

Well funnily enough, that is what I did. I like Samsung as I used to work in their factory in the UK. But good deal with the warranty. Due on Xmas eve

Pixelation is bad on these cheaper sets. As I keep saying you really do get what you pay for. The Panasonic 300B (made by Vestel) has terrible pixelation. It's as bad as some of the flat screen tv's from 10 years ago.

Saw one of these in store, tbh compared to a lot of other sets side by side the picture quality on this was poor with lots of pixelation and the blacks were terrible, more of a darkish grey. Im all for saving money but on a family tv set that is an investment you are better of spending a little more.

The sales person hinted to me the other week that JVC were no longer a premium brand and were one of Currys / PC Worlds own brands. Sales person guided me away from the JVC to another household brand

I'm sure her did and I wonder why, $$$£££! Doing a bit of your own research normally helps. At least you left a happy salesman behind. :stuck_out_tongue:

You will be better putting your £279.00 against something like this if this is to be your main tv. I know its an extra £130.00 but its a top brand and is backed with a 5 year JL warranty.
Popped in to Currys and had a look at this TV. Really not bad and it was placed right next to a curved Samsung 48". Clearly to my eyes there was no difference or so. How to upload a pic I've taken a few

If you must buy a budget tv then at least get one with an extended guarantee like the one below. Just remember though you get what you pay for. You are note really buying quality at this price.
In store only, about 12 left in the country and they are not new. I was going to get this.

With a little bit of luck, Curry's may have put on display this JVC model next to a Samsung. I'm just saying the best way to make an opinion is to go to Curry's and see the quality of it.
I picked up a JVC panel about a year and a half ago, and bought a new Samsung one this year, and it's like night and day.

Unfortunately this isn't really true.
The Japanese companies tried to compete for quite a long time against the cheaper companies. The greed is ours for always wanting the cheapest.
Companies like JVC, Sanyo and Sharp produced mid-range, not particularly distinguished but competent stuff for the mass-market. Being in that sector, they always competed against the cheap stuff and were essentially where Samsung and LG are now.
The problem for them was always the same problem faced by European manufacturers like Philips -- they couldn't compete on price. In a world where people buy based on reviews and price, rather than reliability, their business model was toast.
Sony and Panasonic (and to a degree Toshiba) managed to hold on a little longer, but they are now also on the verge of pulling out of the TV market. The fact is, any monkey can build a TV now and it's unrealistic to expect the like of JVC to be able to compete with that, and lose money year in year out. JVC effectively went bust in Japan anyway and are now just the budget brand of JVC-Kenwood, a company that specialises in car audio gear.
I do wonder what will happen when LG and Samsung finally fall under the line (which will happen in the next 5-10 years for the TV market I'm sure).

Avoid unless you really cannot afford anything good.

JVC = Japan Victor Company yet they're having them made in Turkey? What a shame - JVC used to make very good products.

It's much worse..wish that was the case..(they designed and engineered it in Jaoan and then assemble and make it somewhere else to cut production cost like others)...
BUt It's is different, this isn't even JVC.this is an entirely different TV (Vestel) they "rent" JVC (among few other) brand name and put it on their products.

I'm staying to think an easy way to spot vestels is the remote sensor sticking out under the bottom right side of the screen panel?

I have a Samsung TV which has the remote cenre on the right sticking out. Its the 5003 model. Tesco sent me the 5003 instead of 5100. I am awaiting replacement. But does that mean 5003 was made by Vestel in Turkey? To be honest, panel is fairly good. But i believe/hope 5100 is much better..

All you need to do is google the consumer act. It was changed in October this year. Put a nice email together and copy and paste the relevant parts relating to faulty goods. Obviously in year one it's easy. It's also a lot easier if you buy a tv which has either a manufacturers or retailers extended guarantee however it is doable to do it yourself. My son did this recently on a tv which was 2 years, nine months old with a panel fault. Currys repaired it free of charge. It had had very little use which he could prove via the service menu which is easy to access on Samsung. It can be tricky but the laws are there to protect us and the retailers will not wish to be in breach of our laws and will back down when challenged.
Obviously price has something to do with this as well as usage so don't expect to get your £100.00 Logik tv that's been on for 16 hours a day repaired free in year 5 !!

Thanks to the folk that commented to let us know the real info about JVC.
If anyone is going to buy this then you might as well save more and buy a technika or blaupunkt tv lol You will save more and they might have better warranty support

£279.00 for a Vestel made tv is £279.00 you could put towards a Samsung or LG. Now that is money better spent. If you buy one make sure you get it from somewhere who offers an extended warranty JIC, not JVC. Unless you know how to work our consumer law which will give you some protection up to 6 years.
Personally I would be putting my £279.00 towards the following but if 300 quid was my budget then I would be buying a smaller tv. I only ever bought a non-branded tv once for the living room and it lasted about 16 months and failed.
This is a lot of TV for the money, nice find op. I am lucky enough that my TV is working fine while i save for a new one but for anyone on a budget this seems really good. Nice deal and thanks for taking the time to post.

Yes gluke21 as what happens in todays world of CORPORATE GREED just about ALL the big names that were household names and once famous for their quality are making even bigger profits by not actually making anything themselves.
The great excuse they all make is "getting items made from low wage countries keeps prices down" well YES it keeps prices down but only for the company that buys stick on name badges and NOT for the end user.
Most probably the "same" Tv can be bought with a different "sticker" on the front even CHEAPER.
When I tried to complain about a JVC Tv in 2013 their response was that they were having so many people contact them it could take 2 WEEKS before they could respond.
They also said "Your TV is a model that was directly imported by Comet and sold by them under an exclusive Sales and Service agreement. They are responsible for all support on these products. JVC Europe originally had no service or support information or spare parts for these models"
I would never buy JVC again after buying a JVC digital video camera with a battery that only lasted about 10 minutes and when I complained they more or less said to buy a bigger capacity one that was more than half the price of the camera. A total rip off greedy company in my eyes.

If you're not massively bothered about the quality of the panel, and just want a comfortable 49" TV, pick this up, however for £409, a 48" smart Samsung panel is on John Lewis: http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/samsung-ue48j5500-led-hd-1080p-smart-tv-48-with-freeview-hd-built-wi-fi-5-year-guarantee-2353234
