Yeah I saw that at Tesco. Tend to scrimp and save at the major supermarkets. I always come back to M&S for this cake every year. Good size, weighing 915g. Definitely worth a fiver.

These cakes, properly stored, can last a very long time...
(I'd prefer a better source, but it's the first one I came to!)

Lidl have 1kg Christmas cake for £6.49 or smaller one for I tthink £3.49 .
the cake is rated 65/100 Good housekeeping results 2015
Aldi also have Specially Selected Luxury All Over Iced Chrismas Cake costs £6.49 for 1kg rated 70/100.
Both on par taste wise with M&S, Waitrose and Harrods cake but not pricewise.
Sainsburys TTD comes out tops

I've worked at park cake bakeries where these are made and would never eat one of these , touched by many hands and no one wears gloves :-(

Marks and Spencer cakes were always made by Avana Bakeries in South Wales a local company to me, they changed back in 2014 to Park Bakeries, causing the lose of many local jobs. Avana had always produced high quality products for M&S, as part of cost cutting M&S moved their business to Park and in my view just like their cheap imported clothes, quality has suffered .
