A lot of phone for not so much money compared to other smartphones.
Argos online for free delivery only + get a £10 Argos voucher: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/ArgosPromo3/includeName/giftvoucher1.htm

Wileyfox is a British smartphone manufacturer based in London - SUPPORT UK BUSINESSES.
Wileyfox's current CEO is Nick Muir, former general manager of Motorola UK.

Fresh-faced British upstart Wileyfox is hoping to make a name for itself in contract-free smartphones, joining plenty of other manufacturers searching for the perfect balance between performance and price. Today Wileyfox has announced its higher-end Storm smartphone is now up for grabs for £199. That much buys you a dual-SIM, 4G device with a 1.5GHz octa-core Snapdragon 615 CPU, 3GB of RAM, 32 gigs of expandable storage, a 2,500mAh battery, 20-megapixel rear camera with Sony sensor and an 8MP selfie snapper.

Enveloping all those components is a 5.5-inch full HD display and a grainy, matte finish shell complemented by sunset orange highlights, with fan-favourite, Android-based Cyanogen OS running the show.

How different is Cyanogen to stock android? Do I still get apps from the play store? (got a nexus 4)

Yes, same same.

Yeah as previously said, you get access to the play store. It's very similar to stock android with a few added customisation and productivity tweaks, some that usually require rooting.

I run CyanogenMod on my phone. I had a Nexus 4 before too. Cyanogen is very much like stock android but with a few added useful features.

Play store works fine.

Pretty nice spec for the money and Cyanogenmod support is also a plus. Can't help feeling they missed a trick with the battery though, if the Vodafone Smart Ultra 6 can fit in 3000mAh surely Wileyfox could too? Although SU6 will likely not see an update past 5.1.1. Anyone seen any reviews, especially where battery life is concerned?

I asked WF via Twitter a month or so ago about factory support for unlocking the bootloader and root, all they did was favourite my post and gave no answer at all - I'll be sitting on the fence for a while and seeing what sort of support it gets on XDA.

This looks just like my one plus one, however cheaper in price. the Cyanogen os means it should not need rooting as it has the tweaks that stock does not, however rooting will allow you more customisation. Can use it with google play apps with no problem. good price and specs, heat from me and would be my choice of not already got one plus one.

Agree that the battery capacity is disappointing, my P7000 is 3450mah, I really don't want to go back to a phone where you can't guarantee a full day from early morning till late night. I was tempted because of the possible camera upgrade from the P7000, but it seems the recent batch of new phones aren't ticking all my boxes yet. Still drawn towards the elephone vowney, but the pre sale discount isn't quite what it needs to be.

I'd preordered this from Amazon, but cancelled last week. No reviews, no hands on from the usual tech sites, no real response to customer queries all had me a bit worried. Appreciate they're probably very busy with the launch, and are only a small company, but like others I'm sitting back and seeing what happens first.

Edit: Oh, and unless I'm mistaken, dual SIM support removes micro SD expansion support. Just a heads up.
OB1
28 Oct 15 #13
Is this just a rebrand of a Chinese handset, or a genuine 'Wileyfox' design?

Dual SIM support removing microSD support isn't great, at least it has 32GB storage though.

Ability to root also essential for my needs!
happyharry to OB1
28 Oct 15 #25
there was a comment on the thread for the swift that they were rebranded phones, so not original design. was also a comment that Cyanogen would be more power efficient. not sure how accurate either statement is. both swift and storm have same battery though so this 1080 screen will use more power than the swifts 720p i would have thought? just speculation as not got either but considering swift if the price drops nearer the £100 mark.

Flubit offered me 185GBP including delivery. Worth a punt if you're really interested in buying the phone. Warranty comes from Wileyfox themselves and since it's based in the UK there should be no problem.

It's 95% pure Android. You have a few extra options to customise your phone. You get weekly updates. I personally prefer CM

Cyanogen might increase the efficiency ever so slightly, but don't expect large numbers.

if you are thinking of getting this then you might also think of getting the Moto X Play (3600mah battery) for about £270.
bigsipie
29 Oct 15 #44
It's a re-branded General Mobile 4G handset. Big in Turkey, Philippines, Indonesia. It's a well made phone with a good performance track history. Google used it in there Android One initiative. So it's been unofficially approved by them. It has solid specs, cheap, 2 year warranty as standard, 3 year warranty for extra 9.99. You try getting a Apple phone with a 3 warranty! Also you can get screen insurance for 9.99 per year too. It's a British firm so warranty claims should be easy( early swift handsets had a few small problem's and we're swapped easily enough). It has a UK call centre, although I suspect it's a 3rd party service. It's a good deal cheaper than a Moto X play, and a good bit better than a Moto G. I think is a good punt at £200. Ordering one myself on Monday.

The OnePlus X has just been announced at £199 with similar specs (better CPU, less storage) but with their silly invite system. And still a 2500mAh battery. Very disappointed with most phones released this year, especially when it comes to battery!

29 Oct 15 #49
At this price wouldn't a new LG G3 from Amazon be a better deal (throwing a curve ball)
hukdaardcdu to waynehardy
29 Oct 15 #50
Not for me; I'm thinking of replacing my LG G3 with this or something else. I'm fed-up with a phone that I cannot charge in hotel rooms without being constantly woken by LG's awful battery charged sound/vibration which cannot be switched off. (LG's claim that this is to avoid battery over-charging seems lame as no other phone manufacturer seems to consider this necessary). Also, my G3 just like my previous LG phone (HD 4X) seems to get laggier and laggier with time/updates. I've tried all the solutions including switching various developer options on and off which seem to help for a short while only. No more LGs for me I suspect.

Not everyone has the time and the know-how to, but it is certainly an option. Just thought I'd put it out there as I used to love the whole rooting and custom ROM thing but now I can't even bother rooting stock ROM on my Nexus devices.
waynehardy
29 Oct 15 #58
Yes, it takes a bit of research first but can be beneficial if stock rom is laggy/full of bloat. Nexi don't really need rooting and modding really but saying that will be doing it to get marshmallow on my n4

bigsipie
4 Nov 15 #72
battery life is the same as my old Moto G gen 1. So where to start? In the box you get a sim tool, yes the Storm has a stupid sim tray!!! These silly, fiddly, fragile things should be a thing of the past. You can have 2 SIMs or a sim and sd card. The phone comes with a screen protector pre installed. But mine looks like a monkey put it on all full of bubbles and looked naff, so I took it of right away. Nice USB cable. No charger, just the cable. It's short but looks and works great. Now the handset. It's well made. It's plastic, but not cheap feeling. Nice finish on the back. Over all I think it's a pretty looking handset. It's fast and smooth, no lag and all apps open fast. GPS is good, I use it with Nokia Here as my main nav unit in my car. Had it side by side with my work mates Moto X play. The Moto x play looks a more premium handset, but is that worth a extra £70. No, not in my view or work colleagues. He wishes he had took the plunge and got the Storm. The Cyanogen OS is great. Feels like lollipop, but soo much better. Privacy guard and ture caller Id are super. It also comes with a 2 years warranty too. 3 if you pay £9.99, and a years screen insurance for 9.99 too.
nick_sub
4 Nov 15 #73
Thanks. Do you find it a bit big? I was looking at the similarly sized Samsung Note 4 yesterday and it felt enourmous. The main problem was that it was very difficult to reach down to the bottom navigations buttons while holding one handed and felt like I'd end up dropping it. The LG G3 is that bit smaller and might be better for me but doesn't quite have the specs of this.
lianne21 to nick_sub
4 Nov 15 #75
Lol, 5.5 seems tiny to me as ive just went from a 6.3 inch to an 8 inch phone
lianne21
4 Nov 15 #74
Thanks, sounds good. No negatives?
Shame they didn't allow 2 sims and an sd card like the moto g as that would suit folks better.
Let's hope customer service turns out to be ok as seems folks have found them to be hopeless at the moment, I've emailed them myself and got no reply. Early days so hope that improves. I like the 3 year warranty, that attracts me and being British company it would be nice if they could make phones with chinese specs with UK customer service.
Glad you are happy with it :-)
Infiltrator
4 Nov 15 1 #76
I was looking forward to this phone (particularly the camera and o/s) but the battery capacity isn't enough for a 5.5 inch screen and having to choose between using a second sim or an sd card means it's not for me. I think dual sim popularity will increase as more networks offer big data deals, I currently have a basic PAYG sim for calls and texts (small data allowance) and sim 2 is the EE 100 gb a month sim.

Update time, and it's all gone a bit Pete Tong. Home keys are failing, it sometimes won't charge, sometimes when charged the battery won't shift of 100%. Oh dear I had such high hopes for it really. So it's back in the box and of to Amazon on Monday

Oh dear. Sorry to hear that. There will always be teething problems, especially with a new manufacturer. Hope they get it sorted soon.
I went for the LG G3 in the end, mainly because it's smaller but actually it's a really impressive phone, especially the camera.
