Do you have the magic touch? Then guide Kirby as he sets off on grand adventures in a hand-sculpted clay world. Draw lines on the touchscreen of the Wii U GamePad controller to create rainbow-coloured clay ropes to move Kirby around freely, or tap him to attack enemies or blast through obstacles. Transformations include a submarine, rocket, and tank. In underwater levels, Kirby dons a swim mask. If his power level gets too low, a clay bandage appears on his head.
GAME FEATURES
Kirby comes to life in a world of clay, which creates a beautiful backdrop for his adventure.
You take control of Kirby with the stroke of a stylus and draw on the GamePad touchscreen to guide Kirby through the world.
Use the GamePad to control Kirby's many transformations in unique new ways.
The intuitive drawing mechanic is a spiritual successor to Kirby: Canvas Curse for Nintendo DS that builds on the gameplay and takes it in a new direction.

You're right. It's more of a game-pad game, you hardly get to look up at the big screen. As a flag-waving Wii U fan, I found it frustrating and completely in-essential. I traded it within days. Not even in the same league as Kirby's Epic Yarn. Not even in the same league as Captain Toad's Treasure Tracker...

I always wonder why they never like to use the term 'Curse' on these games in the EU and retitled.

Kirby games tended to have word plays in their titles. If we look at the DS game canvas curse that became power paintbrush here in Europe and since Rainbow curse/paintbrush is a spiritual succor to that it makes sense to retain a reference to it in the title.
I always assumed the name was changed in the first place due to making the title easier for non-English people to understand (as it was sold throughout Europe as power paintbrush). Canvas Curse is more complicated wording than Power Paintbrush (bonus points for keeping the alliteration). The problem is the latter is a little bland but at least it isn't as dull as Kirby: Mouse attack (Kirby: Squeak Squad in America).
Speaking of that DS game. If that ever shows up on the virtual console that is a better buy than this. Still I really like the claymotion art style in this Wii U game...shame it is hard to appreciate due to not looking at the TV and so you might as well watch it on youtube or twitch or something.

exactly,I was wondering the same and very disappointed..the real, original and intended name for this game is "Kirby Curse of the Rainbow"..very cool and nice name that make people actually interested to try it.."rainbow Paintbrush" sounds like a child only painting app..

This is more of a gamepad game right. I am assuming it is hard to play on the tv as you need to focus on the gamepad all the time.

I am getting a Wii U for my kids for Xmas and want it to be a family console we can all play, he already has the 3DS XL. I was hoping he might not realise it was just as easily a handheld, but he was recently playing a demo one in Tesco so that idea has gone. I wanted to get him into the habit of using it with the TV, will deffo be avoiding this game then!
Thing is though, one of the USPs of this console is it is TV or handheld. Being a bit old fashioned I hate this, I like a phone for phone calls, a computer for the internet and a camera for taking photos. Not into Tablets, Iphones and all in one solutions so much.
Wish Nintendo had gave us options on this for Wii U. Like TV only, or both TV/handheld. A bit like you can buy a 2DS or a 3DS if you want to avoid 3D all together.

I kinda agree with that, ive been put off as you spend the time looking at the low res Wii U pad screen.
Seems a good price tho, is this the lowest its been?

I get that it was kept along the same lines for its successor here, just curious why the name change, it is hardly as if we are literately challenged here in the UK to not know what a canvas is. I am wondering if they felt the term curse was frowned upon for a game with a 3+ rating. Or maybe as you said the whole EU translation from its english counterpart made easier translation sense. Who knows! Still curious.

If they made it a standard platformer with the stylus-steering reduced to at least half of the gameplay I think people would give it more time, it's a very good game in my opinion, but not destined to be remembered well at all it seems.

the gamepad focus was one of the strongest criticisms in most reviews of the game. I recall one lamenting the wasted effort of the getting the HD visuals looking so nice on the TV, whilst your focus is drawn 100% to the tablet. conversely, if you've got young kids or people who like to watch what you play it's quite a nice collaborative effort.

£15 is my biting point. it's been as low as £16.96 before -->http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/kirby-rainbow-paintbrush-wii-u-16-96-delivered-thegamecollection-using-code-2249978
